[YEA] 01/11/2008: J from Singapore, Singapore writes: "Raw peanut soup help cure me off gout. I use a bunch of raw peanuts still attached to the stem. I cut away the stems and leaves down to as close as the first root/pod.Wash thoroughly.A 5-stem/plant bunch for 1 liter of water. Bring to boil and simmer for 15 minutes. Add Baking soda or BSM [black strap molasses] to taste or just plain boiled peanut soup. Cost US$1.00 not including gas and your time. After the cure I make this soup once a month for maintenance sake like any good old Chinese soup."

[YEA] 04/21/2006: Jonathan from Waltham, MA writes: "I wanted to thank Don for posting to message about Strawberries and Gout. I tried Cherries and other remedies like Cider Vinegar but once I started eating strawberries the Gout has gone away, hopefully for good. Since my gout started in March, it was just in time for the new crop of Strawberries. I try to eat a cup every day!"

[YEA] Don from Long Beach, CA writes: "I have found a miracle solution for my gout which has gotten worse, with more frequent and incredibly painful bouts.
I've had all the drugs from my doctor, and I've eaten cherries until I couldn't stand another. None of it worked.
My wife brought home a flat of strawberries from the school where she teaches, and they sat in the fridge for a couple of days. Every time I'd open it, they'd be sitting there, going to waste. I had read somewhere that strawberries might actually exacerbate the condition, so I was reluctant. But I was in real pain, so I tried it. As God is my witness, I ate a half of a box of fresh strawberries and two hours later I was a new man. After taking Alipurnol, colchicine, and vicadin when it got really bad, strawberries have proven to be the gout killer. It doesn't just give me relief, it I feel like I barely have gout now. I eat a handful every other day, and have smoothies, and I haven't had a bout or even a threat of one in three months. This week I decided to really test it. We had a party and there were friends from Puerto Rico here. The last time they were here they brought a bottle of fine rum. I broke it out and we had a fun time. I also ate chocolate, ice cream, red meat, and drank 3 beers, all within 2 hours. This cocktail combination would have proved deadly before I discovered strawberries to be my saving grace. But the only thing I was feeling was hung over!
If you are suffering from gout, try strawberries. Eat a whole box, every day for a week. You can scale back as I did. The antioxidants in strawberries seem to have given me a pseudo cure. I am a new man. More invigorated. My head is more clear. I have much more energy. The only thing I've done is I've gotten off the pills and am eating lots of strawberries. I've also not had coffee for two months. But I'd been wanting to give that up for a long time. Try it and send me an email. I want to know if it's just working for me, or for others too."

[YEA] Don from Long Beach, CA writes: "I'd like to add to my story above... I've since read other's accounts and have read stories and have found that each case is unique. Please consult your doctor before you rely on anything, including strawberries. If you have other conditions like diabetes it may and probably does impact the effect strawberries has for you, and it could be an adverse result. So please take care of yourself and don't rely totally on what you read here."

[YEA] 07/28/2005: John F from Western Australia writes: "Fresh strawberries and Cherries* both reduce the symptoms of Gout (be careful the canned ones w/-syrup have a lot of sugar which could neutralize any benefit) best eat bottled sour cherries or the drink made from bottled black cherry concentrate (Health Shops have this). Soda water also helps. Watermelon and fresh vegetables also help. Beer is the worst thing to take. I have been 10years fighting Gout."

STRAWBERRIES, CHERRIES, DIET CHOICES
[YEA] 04/01/2006: Deirdre from Hamilton, Victoria, Australia writes: "My husband Geoff had his first surprise attack of gout. We went on the net and read any books we could find on the subject. As we both knew Geoff's father had serious side-effects from the nsaid Indicide that the doctor gave him. We decided to eat lots of cherries and strawberries and eat a diet high in rice and vegetables with very little meat. Within a few days the gout symptoms were gone. We are both drinking lots of water."

1 BETTER BUT NOT CURED
[YEA] 07/02/2009: MocMan from Westerville, OH writes: "I really think that one of the problems with the one prescription or herbal treatment for all approach is like throwing a handful of pebbles at a building. Each one of us has a different make up so what works for one may or may not work for another.
I have suffered from gout for thirty years. My first major attack was after drinking a bottle of red wine with prime rib. The next day my right toe was so swollen and painful I could barely walk. I went to the hospital and they came out to the parking lot with a wheel chair to get me.
I have tried every perscription drug and every juice or berry recommended on this site except the black bean juice. Beans and or peas of all types trigger immediate severe attacks for me. One bowl of venison chili will cause a severe attack the next day. I can count on it.
I have taken a capsule with these ingredients for several years and it works the best of anything I have ever taken. I would think a person could experiment with the mixture in it because most of the herbs are time proven and quite safe. Yucca, garlic, artichoke, milk thistle, and turmeric. Turmeric itself has been used safely for over 2000 years to cure or relieve a host of ailments!"
[YEA] 10/21/2009: Len from Houston, Texas replies: "I started taking marine phytoplankton for all the wonderful benefits it was supposed to offer. The only thing that happened was the relief from gout (which was fantastic). I have not had a bout with that horrible troll in 8 months now. I drink beer every day and eat all the red meat I want, along with gravy and other items that bring on the attacks. (it seems that everything I like is on the "do not eat" list for gout)I know that all our bodies are different and we get differing effects from vitamins and supplements, but I wanted to put this out there just in case it might help someone else. Gout is the most painful thing I have ever fought, and if this helps just one person, it's worth this post.
I take one capsule every morning, now. When I started this, I was having frequent attacks. If I felt the twinge in my toe, I would take two for a couple of days. Now, all I have needed to take is one. Good luck to all. Hope this helps."

[BETTER BUT NOT CURED] 05/20/2009: Sonya from Garland, Texas writes: "I found a remedy for gout on line somewhere. I can't remember where but it really worked for me. It said to take fiber, vitamin B5 (pantothenic acid), vitamin E and vitamin A. I take fiber capsules 2-4 per day, vitamin B5 2 500 IU pills or capsules per day (you will need to go to someplace like Vitamin World to get B5),vitamin E I take 1000 IU per day and I take 8000 IU of vitamin A. This made a huge difference for me. I can't say it has cured me completely but I went from hardly being able to walk at all (extremely painful) to walking 2 miles every morning. None of these supplements are expensive. I really hope it helps everyone who is suffering from this cruel condition. All the best to everyone on this site."

[YEA] 11/04/2007: James from Seattle, Washington writes: "I am not sure I had pseudogout (I.E. not tested for calcium pyrophospate' crystals). But I sure had all the symptoms for pseudogout Asymmetrical throbbing pain in the hands and feet and all the symptoms of acidosis. One of the other major symptoms of pseudogout is "acidosis that does not respond to bicarbonate". Which means that the apple cider vinegar or baking soda cures, as related on this website, just don't work. In the midterm for relief I used hydrogen peroxide. After the enzyme catalase breaks down the H2O2 2 to H2O and O2, The super oxide anion (O2) raises the PH of the cells. 1/2 a cap of off the shelf 3% hydrogen peroxide cut the pain. But the minute I drank a drink with sugar in it the throbbing would come back (imagine a world without deserts, soda pop or any fruit. Not acceptable.) I played around with this for six months. I used the Borax and it did not help. I did get a Borax poisoning rash on each palm and on the sole of each foot.May have overdone the Borax. So I switched to tamarind concentrate. Tamarind concentrate is available at oriental food stores. Weird that the lable calls is tamarind soup and then on the back gives instructions to make a "refreshing tamarind drink". Only costs $1.49 per 14 oz. jar. I do 1 table spoon mixed with cold filtered water a day. After a month and a half (and 7/8's of a jar of the tamarind concentrate) I can now eat as much sugar and citrus fruit as anybody without any throbbing pain in my right foot or left hand.
Pseudogout plagues more than 50% of people over 80 years old. Doctors give some pain relief medicine and that's about all. Otherwise it sounds like they just waite for the suffer to die. But, pseudogout is spreading to people as young as just over forty years old and doctors have no cure. I think that pseudogout is caused by low intercellular PH as regular gout is caused by low extracellular PH. Tamarind water is used in India and China in high fluoride areas to chelate fluoride out of the body. Fluoride has a very negative PH effect on the body. Most of it's work is done inside of the cells (intracellular). What I was amazed by is that I took only a table spoon a day of the concentrate tamarind and within a month and 1/2 I could eat as much sugar as I wanted (to test I ate 1,000 calories a day for three days of chocolate). Sugar has a very negative intracellular PH effect on the body. I am cured. But then I was never diagnosed with pseudogout I kinda self diagnosed myself. So what do I know? On the other hand. I have scoured the net for pseudogout cures and have not found any options. I think this tamarind cure (1 teaspoon with water once or twice a day) should work to help pseudogout and raise intracellular PH. Even if it doesn't the cost is low ($1.49 for less that than the whole cure), the risk is low (no side effects from tamarind water reported)and tamarind water has a pleasant taste. Please post this. Our pseudogout friends are in so much pain and are not getting any direction to turn to. This may not be the final cure for pseudogout But, it is at least something to try that might work. And I hope it works for them like it has for me. Cheer;"

TAN KOON PENG'S REMEDIES FOR GOUT

2. small fishes - ikan bilis, sardins, anchovies!
3. meat- goose and sausages!
4. meat extracts- bovril, oxo, gravies!
5. sea food- scallops, oysters, mussels, fishroes!
6. vegetables- cauliflower, spinach, asparagus!
7. legumes- kacang, peas, lentils, beans!
8. alchohol- beer, wine!
9. others- mushroom, dhall, yeast!
1 tips for removing uric acid from legumes, simply soak it overnight and its free from uric acid! Remember to pour away the water.
The one remedy that everyone seems to agree is very effective-cherries! Eat them fresh or frozen. Also, drink cherry juice daily. You can get pure juice (concentrate) at health food stores.
Caution: Cherry juice has powerful laxitive effects so stay near to toilet and don't hesitate to go to toilet or it will be too late!
Gout comes on suddenly, but you know it when you have it. Caused by a build-up of uric acid in the joints, it usually settles in a persons big toe. Gout is extremely painful, but also extremely treatable.
If you have gout, you probably know it's time to change your diet. Once known as "the disease of kings," it's often brought on by a steady diet of rich foods like red meat, wine, cream sauces and sweets. The closer you stick to vegetarian cuisine, the faster the gout will go.You should stay away from meat. Also, avoid alcohol and eliminate sugar and white flour from your diet. You may start feeling so good that you'll never want to go back to consuming those things."

TART CHERRY EXTRACT, ELIMINATE SUGAR
[YEA] 01/09/2009: MSL from Thousand Oaks, CA writes: "I have had continues gout flair ups for over 15 years in my feet, knees, hands and wrists... I have taken all the medications available with no relief. I cut out all red meet, shell fish, wines and still had major flair ups. It was getting so frustrating. I come to find out my flair ups are from sugar I tracked what I ate for about a month and a half and my flair ups are from sugar I was consuming. I was taking cherry juice concentrate yet it had sugar so I did not see great results. I typed in gout in the search box in this online vitamin store I have been buying products from.. The results came up Tart Cherry Extract in a capsule form, WOW it worked. The bottle said to take 1 per day but I took 4 - 4 times per day (DO NOT do what I did unless you talk to your doctor) I have never felt better."

03/19/2009: C.S.M from VERO BEACH, FL writes: "New Study: Vitamin C May Prevent Gout in Men
http://www.modernmedicine.com/modernmedicine/Modern+Medicine+Now/Vitamin-C-May-Help-Prevent-Gout-in-Men/ArticleNewsFeed/Article/detail/586385
The authors summary is:
"Given the general safety profile associated with vitamin C intake, particularly in the generally consumed ranges as in the present study (e.g., tolerable upper intake level of vitamin C less than 2,000 mg in adults according to the Food and Nutrition Board, Institute of Medicine), vitamin C intake may provide a useful option in the prevention of gout," the authors write.
Here is a new study paid for by Tap Pharmaceuticals company. They do not manufacture vitamin C or gout medicines according to their web site.
Thanks for everything, Deirdre! Love your site!"

[YEA] 10/05/2007: Jared from Portland, Oregon writes: "After my last gout attack and starting my self on a PH balancing regiment with ACV and Baking Soda. During the summer months, I tend to buy a lot of filtered bottled water (not distilled). One day I was reading a label very closely and they state that this water has added potassium and sodium bicarbonate to replace the minerals lost through sweat. As a benefit, the ph is 9. So for those looking for a portable bottled water to help with disolving uric acid, Essentia touts increased alkakinity for health. The same ideal that Ted preaches. It helps me maintain a healthy PH when I can't added Baking soda to water. For more info. http://www.essentiawater.com/info.html"

[YEA] 07/14/2006: Al from Calgary Alberta writes: "Hi, I also have Occasional gout. For many years I tried several different medicine pills. Only one worked novomethicine and the pill is worse than the gout! I found a natural cure to gout thru a friend. Drink gallons of distilled water! The distilled water works like reverse osmosis on the gout and within a few days of drinking only distilled water, the gout symptoms disappear. works for me, wonder if anyone else might want to give it a try! Thought I might pass this on."

[YEA] 11/26/2005: John from Bakersfield, CA writes: "I've had some bad bouts with gout. Anyone that has never had it, can't understand the pain associated with it. The best way for me to describe it, is it feels like you just broke your foot, ankle, or BIG TOE and now someone has put it in a vise and is tightening it in a slow torturous fashion. Most of the time before I get an episode, I will get an ever so slight "twinge" of pain, warning me that I had better start drinking copious amounts of WATER and lay off some of the things that have caused attacks in the past. But after its been a while between attacks, I'll sometimes forget exactly how excruciatingly painful it really was and not heed the numerous warnings, and before you know, it sneaks up from behind you, taps you on the shoulder and hits you right between the eyes!! (or should I say Big Toe) And says I told ya I was com'in. So all in all, listen to your body and drink plenty of WATER."

[YEA] 08/22/2005: John from Duluth, MN writes: "I am a field geologist, and a few years I started to develop severe gout-like symptoms in my foot. These symptoms generally occurred after working in areas where I tended to get overly dehydrated (desert or tropical environments). I have found that massive hydration (drinking 2-3 liters of water over an hour or two) tends to almost immediately (within a few hours) reverse my symptoms. Hydration generally keeps me gout free, and when gout does occur (very rarely now), it is the gout "cure" for me. It sounds almost too simple (and cheap) to be true, but it works for me."
