[NAY] John from Sulphur Springs, Texas writes: "I have suffered from gout for about 9 years, it started in my toes, but about 4 years ago it moved to all my larger joints, ankles, knees, wrists, hands, elbows & shoulders. I was having attacks about every 6-8 weeks. Then I read about ACV & started trying that in hopes that something would work. I started the ACV on 11/29/09 & stopped it on 12/17/09 because I was having one attack after the other. The VA has me on Prednizone & allopurinol for maintenance & are starting me on Indomethacin for when I feel an attack coming on. I read about ACV with Mother & tried that for about 20 days, taking one tsp. with baking soda in 8oz. water twice per day. The gout attacks became more frequent ( 10 attacks in 90 days)they would last from 3 days to 14 days with the latest attack lasting a full 30 days. I would really like to be able to use the Organic ACV with Mother but I am now afraid to try it again. Any suggestions??"

[YEA] Michael from Rapid City, South Dakota writes: "Over the years I've had several gout attacks. I went to a doctor and received prescriptions for pills, allupurinol (SP?) and endomethicyn (SP?). The allupurinol did nothing while the endomethicyn did relieve the attacks. One morning while away from home for work I woke up unable to move my left knee. I called my wife and she contacted my doctor who prescribed another pill who's name I don't recall. I managed to very painfully limp to a pharmacy to fill the prescription. The directions for this medication called for taking one pill every 30 minutes until, "Severe gastro-intestinal discomfort ensued." Yes, that's exactly what it meant.

Last week I again had an attack on my knee while away from home. I accessed the web in an attempt to find a cure that did not involve a doctor, a pharmacy and, "Severe gastro-intestinal discomfort." I found this site. I was unable to walk without severe pain and a pronounced limp at this time. I got to a store and bought ACV, a couple cans of cherries and Black Cherry/Concord Grape juice. I drank the top inch or so of juice from the bottle and filled it back up with the ACV. After eating one can of cherries and drinking three bottles of the ACV/juice I awoke the next morning and was able to walk with only a slight limp. By the second day most stiffness and most of the pain was gone. By the third day all pain and stiffness was gone. In addition, both of my big toes, which had been stiff and swollen, unable to move had full range of movement again for the first time in a couple of years. Today I realized that I was able to make a fist with both hands with no dull ache, which I have also had for a couple of years. I am going to be drinking ACV for the rest of my life.

[YEA] Barry from Shawnigan Lake Bc, Canada writes: "Dear Earth Clinic, thank you so much for posting so many positive comments regarding Apple Cider Vinegar! I recently had my first bout with Gout, and ACV scored an impressive knockout! I had been taking a diuretic for high blood pressure and in my initial research I learned that my medication could be contributing to my gout. It was new years eve and I couldn't get out to see my doctor until the following monday (4 days later) I found your website and learned about ACV. I knew we had some as my wife had asked me to purchase some for home made salad dressings. It wasn't organic with "mother" but rather a typical commercial brand "pure" ACV. Beggars can't be choosers and with nothing to lose, I decided to give it a try. I followed the instructions on your website and began to take 2 tbsp with water, tomato juice, etc. Within 12 hours the swelling crested and within 36 hours I was about 80% better. I was completely cured within 5 days. My Doctor confirmed that my medication could contribute to gout and was very impressed with ACV as a remedy. I decided to read up a little more about the benefits of ACV for my high blood pressure. Well, it's been 9 days now and with my doctors blessing, I've weaned myself off my medication. I've purchased an organic brand with the "mother" (available at most specialty grocery and health food stores) and I'm happy to report that my blood pressure is steady in the 122/80 range and is lower now that when I was on the medication (135/88). Thanks again! Like the oldtimers, I've started to take it straight up (with an apple juice chaser) I have more energy and am continuing my daily routine of 1/2 shot glass 2-3 times a day as I attempt to shed 40 lbs over the next 6 months. It's the miracle I've been looking for and I'm telling the world! Cheers!"

[YEA] Erics from Elko, Nevada, Usa writes: "I have been getting bouts of gout in one foot or the other for 10 years now. I am 49 years old, 6 foot 2 inches tall, weigh 155 pounds, am a field geologist and have been a health-nut and runner for most of my life. From that you can see that gout can hit thin guys too. My gout (like most peoples) gets more intense and lasts longer every time I get it....or at least it used to until I figured out what to do. I tried Allopurinol but the stuff is nasty times ten. It left me itchy, fatigued and with terrible joint pain knees/back/hips/elbows/ankles. I now take a bunch of herbs and supplements that would take too long to name. They seem to keep me gout-free but I do get it around the holidays (too much eating/drinking)....I have gout now in fact, but it came on today and is already easing due to the following regimen.

The essential herbs/supplements for maintenance are: bromelain, stinging nettle, turmeric, quercetin, vitamin C, vitamin B complex, vitamin e, garlic, cherry juice or pills, bilberry, boswellin, amino acid complex, pantothenic acid, hawthorn and devil's claw. The bottles will tell you what a safe doseage is. All of these supplements either help dissolve UA crystals or help repair the damage that the gout just did to your joints. Make sure you eat potassium-rich foods (potatoes, squash, pears, apples, bananas, yogurt and lots of berries of any kind and grapes). Drink lots of water per day and mix it with cherry and pineapple juices. I drink over 1 gallon per day...but I am usually pretty active.

However, when gout hits you (usually while you are sawing logs) you have to take more drastic measures. The ACV idea works but I have a variation that will usually work within one day.

Here it is:

4 ounces Apple Cider Vinegar, mix with 16 ounces of tea made from boiling 2 tablespoons celery seed in 2 cups water...mix in 1 teaspoon baking soda (alkalines are good when acid crystals form), mix in 1/2 cup pineapple juice, 2 tablespoons of lemon juice and 2 tablespoons cherry concentrate. The juices help break down uric acid crystals and make the concoction bearable. Drink at least four 8 ounce glasses per day. Do not eat protein, nuts, meats, fish etc until the gout breaks. Stay away from yeast-based products, especially beer and red wine (rats....I love my beer). I hope it works for you....gout delivers the most intense pain I have ever had....I fear it...

I started by mixing 4 ounces of regular store bought apple cider vinegar with 20 ounces of cold water. I added a packet of sweetner to make it palitable. The next morning my pain had gone from an 8 to a 3 or 4. I continued with mixing 4 tablespoons of ACV with 8 ounces of water, 3x a day.
[WORKED TEMPORARILY] Richard from Menlo, Iowa writes: "I've been suffering with Gout on and off for the last year. I've been to my Dr. 6 of 7 times. Well he gave me several differant meds. None that really worked for more than a couple of day and some were no help at all. Then he sent me to a specialist. Well he drained out some fluid from my ankel to see if there was any crystals in it. When he came back he said he didn't see any crystals. Then shot some Cordizone in it and told me to come back when it flared up again and he'd drain it again. That was on the 16th of Dec. He told me that it would get better over the next 48 hour and if it was not better by the 19th to call him back.Over the next 2 days it did get a little better. Then on the 3rd day it started all over again. By then I'd found this site. So i started on the Apple Cider Vinegar and baking soda. 2 teaspoons of ACV and 1/2 teaspoon B.S. 3times a day. In the A.M.I was on crutches but by that night I was walking without them. What a turn around. Well I've read that taking B.S.for to long isn't good for you but everytime I stop for more than a day the pain comes back. So I really don't know what to do. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated. Thanks"

I have lost 10 pounds and intend to go all the way with the weight loss which should allow me to stop taking my diuretics for blood pressure and hopefully the outcome will be completely getting off allupurinol and blood pressure medicine, eating a gout healthy diet and drinking ACV..."

[YEA] John from Glendale, California writes: "Wanting to cut back on my hard liquor consumption, I switched to red wine for about ten days. Just two glasses with my evening meal. Sure enough, it triggered my second gout attack. The first one required medication and took weeks to eliminate the agony. Thank God I found this site and thanks to all who wrote in about organic ACV. I went to the Whole Foods Market immediately and took about 3 ounces with 14 ounces of water. Whoeee that is stronger than straight 151 proof rum!! I did not add honey being diabetic.
[BETTER BUT NOT CURED] Mel from New Harmony, Ut writes: "Wow, I spent several hours going through your site and others regarding gout and the causes and cures. I had already started to get hydrated by drinking a bunch of water. The pain that has be on and off for about two months and pretty bad the last couple days has subsided a bit. Well enough that I went to the Movies with my wife tonight. When we returned the pain was back to a higher level. BTW, I have not been diagnosed with Gout, but have all the symptoms. All the foods to avoid I love and have been trying to loose a little weight lately. We eat pretty healthy, mainly Bison and veggies. A couple days a week we eat vegan. So, finally after reading many comments on your site, I decided that since I had some ACV with "Mothers" in it on the shelf in the pantry, I would try 3 Tablespoons in a bit of water. I chugged it down about an hour and half ago. I sit here and can feel a tingle in my foot and the pain is going away as I sit here. I can wiggle my toe up and down with almost no pain, where before I could wiggle my toe, but there was pain. About a 7 on a scale of 1-10, 10 being the most painful.

Wow, is all I have to say. I really didn't expect that. I expected to wake up and have no change and have to take more to feel anything. I will certainly continue this daily. I drive a tour bus and will make sure to take ACV with me on the road. I guess it is like an apple a day....thanks"

[YEA] Bob from Dallas, Tx writes: "I had a Gout attack a few years back and remembered hearing about home remedies. Found a formula for 1 oz Apple Cider Vinegar (1 shot glass) in 1 cup hot water with a tsp of honey. Picked up the ACV at my local grocery store fixed my ACV tea each evening while i watched TV and the gout was gone in about 3 days. About a year later I was on a business trip and started developing symptoms so off to the store for ACV and this time nothing happened. I was upset and could hardly walk through the airport. When I got home I looked at the ACV I had used before found it was organic. The stuff I picked up on my trip was from a local drug store and was distilled. Tried the formula with my organic and again the pain and swelling was gone in a couple of days. I have also started taking Black Cherry juice. You can get a name brand cranberry/cherry mix at the store. I like the cranberry because I'm prone to kidney stones which cranberry juice helps. I pick up a bottle of concentrate cherry juice and add 1/2 a bottle to the prepackaged cranberry/cherry mix. I drink about 1 or 2 8oz glasses a week and have been gout free for over 2 years."

[NAY] Crystal from KY, USA writes: "My husband has been suffering for gout for around fifteen years. Whenever he had an attack the medicine the docter gave him would make him very sick and he would lose weight and become very weak. It was awful to see him in so much pain,he could not even stand for the bed sheet to rub his foot. I decided to try to find a natural cure for gout that might help him so i went searching on the internet and came upon this site. I read all the post about AVC greatly relieving and even curing peoples gout,I got very excited and since we had some on hand I got my husband to take the recomended dose that same night and the next day.I had great hopes that the ACV would help him but my hopes where dashed the next morning when he woke up with his big toe very swollen and in pain. I felt awful! He had not even been having an attack when I got him to try the ACV and now here he was in lots of pain after taking the ACV.....Not only did he have an attack but where he usually only got it in his feet for the next six months its spread from his big toe to his knees and on up into his hand and then into his elbow. All in all the attacks came one after the other for six months. Half of the year he was in almost constant pain! Now he has a HUGE knot on his elbow because the attack there was the worst one.

I have never felt worse in my life watching him in so much pain and feeling that I caused it because it was my idea for him to try ACV. I was desperate to help him and started asking local pharmacies what to do for him and it just so happened that one of the owners happened to have gout himself and told me to get my husband some cherry concentrate, he said it helped him better then anything. I found some black cherry concentrate at a local _____ for twenty dollars and even though I was now weary of home remedies I figured it really couldnt hurt so I had my husband start drinking the cherry concentrate and i am so glad i did because after about a week his attack in his elbow receded and now two months later he hasnt had anymore attacks. He walks better then he has in a long time.
From what I have read on here it seems as if ACV has worked for many people but my advice to anyone that is thinking of trying it for gout is, Please be very careful and weigh all your options before trying ACV or at least start out in a very small dose.

Thank You

[BETTER BUT NOT CURED] Michael from Bangkok, Thailand writes: "Worse gout attack since first time and extremely painful (left big toe, or more like foot!), and cherries and medicines didn't cure it this time (worked before).

ACV 2 Tbsp 2x/day with juice worked very well, 90% improvement quite quickly (about 3-4 days) and removed the intense pain and swelling, and could walk 85% fine (kinda limp a bit) again...

However, it's been more than a week since that "big improvement" and I continue taking the ACV, yet there seems to be very little improvement since then, and it's still 5 to 10% painful/immobilized, and still cannot "fully" bend my toe (although before I couldn't bend it at all, couldn't even touch it).

Any comments? =0"

[YEA] Dave from Lancashire, England writes: "I last had gout 8 years ago. It was a very bad attack and the doc gave me Naprosyn but unfortunately the attack lasted for weeks. Last week after too much cheese and wine, I felt another attack coming on. My big toe started swelling and was inflamed and red. The pain was building up and I prayed it wasn't going to be another fully-fledged attack. I found this site and sent for some organic acv. I took a couple of tablespoons in a glass of water 3 times a day and adapted my diet to include lots of water, celery, cherries, strawberries, salad, radish and other healthy stuff. I also took some turmeric, vit C, chelated magnesium and milk thistle.

I bought some comfrey oil and put some on the toe. (I once cured a badly frozen shoulder with a poultice of comfrey leaves from my garden). Within about 3 days, the pain lessened, the swelling went down and I could walk again. Boy was I relieved. It was like winning the lottery. I have had several attacks of gout over the years and I do not want that pain again. I refused to see a doctor after the tablets he prescribed last time had little or no effect - except possibly side-effects.

I will take a maintenance dose of ACV and I sincerely hope that anyone who has gout can control it with ACV and the right diet. Keep off those drugs.

[YEA] Debi from Norfolk, VA writes: "I couldn't understand the last few weeks why my feet were getting so bad again, when they have seemed practically cured for over six months. Then it occurred to me. I had run out of my jug of apple cider vinegar (with the mother in it) and with so much going on having summer guests and whatnot, I had forgotten to replace it.

It made perfect sense why my feet were getting so bad again and I was in misery - so I got another bottle yesterday and did my usual 6 oz of water with a tablespoon of the vinegar mixed in (no honey or anything else) and sipped it all morning until it was gone, then had another glass (same mixture) in the late afternoon.

My feet this morning are so improved, I can't believe it. Of course I am not skipping this little daily drink again (also using it in salad dressing and in any recipes that call for vinegar). It truly does work!"

[YEA] MocMan from Westerville, OH writes: "I really think that one of the problems with the one prescription or herbal treatment for all approach is like throwing a handful of pebbles at a building. Each one of us has a different make up so what works for one may or may not work for another.

I have suffered from gout for thirty years. My first major attack was after drinking a bottle of red wine with prime rib. The next day my right toe was so swollen and painful I could barely walk. I went to the hospital and they came out to the parking lot with a wheel chair to get me.

I have tried every perscription drug and every juice or berry recommended on this site except the black bean juice. Beans and or peas of all types trigger immediate severe attacks for me. One bowl of venison chili will cause a severe attack the next day. I can count on it.

I have taken a capsule with these ingredients for several years and it works the best of anything I have ever taken. I would think a person could experiment with the mixture in it because most of the herbs are time proven and quite safe. Yucca, garlic, artichoke, milk thistle, and turmeric. Turmeric itself has been used safely for over 2000 years to cure or relieve a host of ailments!"

[YEA] Tim from Gladewater, Texas writes: "I am 30yrs old and have had gout in my left foot/toe for a few years now. My flare ups usualy last a few weeks to months, so last week when I started feeling the twinge in my ankle I new it was gonna be long summer.

As of last nite it was in my knee (a new thing) and I was imobilized (also a new thing) by the pain in my foot.

So like a good little invalid I was sitting on the couch foot elevated scouting the web for a remedy on my iPhone when I came across this site. I read all the posts for gout and was inspired by all the stories of people actualy finding relief from such excruciating pain as gout can cause from somthing as simple as apple cider vinager. As anyone reading this post probly knows I was eager to give anything a try. Last nite I ate a half a bag of (at least 50) plum cherries as well as mixed 1.5 tbl spoon ACV (5% acidity #1 national brand sounds like Heins with a Z) with a half cup of water and tossed it back followed directly by 1/2 tbl spoon baking soda mixed in a 1/2 cup water. Within a few hours the pain in my foot had deminished noticeably. This morning the pain was back but not as severe as yesterday morning. I followed up again with ACV/BS water treatment and cherries for breakfast. It's 2:00 pm now I just finished my second dose of the day and am standing here writing this post on my iPhone almost pain free (yes standing here). It seems to good to be true but it worked for me.

[YEA] John from Midland, Texas writes: "I have had gout for years and stumbled onto this website. The last year I have had some gout pain almost daily. I tried the 2 tbl in water 3 times a day for 2 days and have now been painfree for 5 days. I am waiting to see how long it takes any pain to return but so far I would agree this offers VERY quick relief."

[YEA] Ken from Seal Beach, CA writes: "I'm 70 year old and suffered from occasional severe gout attacks. Someone told me to try celery seed but we didn't have any so I tried regular celery but without success. My wife picked up a bottle of celery seed and I started putting a 1/2 teaspoon on my salad everyday and if we didn't have salad for dinner, I put it in a small glass of vegetable juice. I started doing that last August and have not had an attack since then. The good thing is that I'm eating and drinking whatever I want without worrying about any of the symptoms that are experienced with some food and drink. Celery seed is available at the grocery store near the spice area and if you try it and it works for you, check in the big box stores where you can get a large bottle at a considerably lower price and it lasts for a long time. I don't know of any side effects and haven't experienced any."
