Gas Remedies
"Flatulence is the presence of a mixture of gases in the digestive tract of mammals. Such a mixture of gases is known as flatus, and is expelled from the rectum in a process also known as flatulence, or as 'breaking wind' or 'farting'.
Flatus is expelled under pressure through the anus, whereby, as a result of the voluntary or involuntary relaxation of the anal sphincter, the rapid evacuation of gases from the lower intestine occurs. Essentially this happens when the flatus pressure inside the rectum exceeds the anal sphincter's ability to restrain it. Depending upon the relative state of the sphincter (relaxed/tense) and the positions of the buttocks, this often results in a crackling or trumpeting sound, but gas can also be passed quietly. The olfactory components of flatulence include skatole, indole, and sulfurous compounds. The non-odorous gases are mainly nitrogen (ingested), carbon dioxide (produced by aerobic microbes or ingested), and hydrogen (produced by some microbes), as well as lesser amounts of oxygen (ingested) and methane (produced by anaerobic microbes)." Replies08/16/2011: Ruth from Stavanger, Norway (american, Working In Norway) replies: "Can I ask if you took any special brand of acidolpholus, when and how you took it, and how much? Nothing I have tried seems to help my gas!"
08/16/2011: Ti from Houston, Usa replies: "Excessive gas may be due to candida too. So cut out sugar fruits and carbs for a while and see how your body responds. I successfully take Jarrow Acidophilus and Usana Probiotic once daily, and my gas disappears in a few days. Also Apple cider vengar 2 tblsp in 8 oz lukewarm water helps."

[YEA] 03/04/2008: Sharon from Santa Fe, NM writes: "After menopause, I seemed to be bloated in my midsection most of the time. My lower stomach was puffy most of the time. I'm a thin person, and thought this was weight gain due to menopause & quitting smoking. Ond day I took 2 activated charcoal capsules for gas, and I ended up spending a lot of time in the bathroom that day. By that evening, I realized that my stomach was flat again! I figured that the charcoal had detoxified my system!! I will continue to take the charcoal once or twice weekly now. I am extremely happy with the results!!"

By the way where do u buy these charcoal tabs"
05/03/2011: Jwarren07 from Conway, Nh Usa replies: "I have also been dealing with gas and bloating and have also quit smoking. I too am thin and thought maybe I was gaining weight like alot of people do when they quit but was actually having a hard time breathing when laying on my back from the pressure and constant gas that was very smelly (my poor boyfriend). Blackstrap molasses in milk has been very helpful but if I dont take it morning and night the gas and bloating comes back. I will def try the charcoal for a more permanent solution."

[YEA] 09/07/2008: Heidi from Ogden, UT writes: "Whenever anyone in the family has gas, we pop a tsp of anise seed into the mouth and chew it thoroughly, swallow it. It will completely stop the gassiness, and very quickly, too. I don't have exact measurements, but I'd say 1/2 teaspoon of whole seed. Chewing it thoroughly is important, and swallow it."
Replies[YEA] 10/13/2011: Richard from Williamsburg, Va replies: "When my children were newborns and they had gas, we would put a little anise seed into some water in their bottles to settle their tummy and de-gas them. It worked every time."

Almost instantly, the gas pains disappeared and I began farting and burping. I have never felt so grateful for flatulence! :-D Thank God for Apple Cider Vinegar and this website!!!"
Replies12/15/2011: Ms. Cynt from Chicago, Il replies: "I have the Apple Cider Vinegar pills. I stopped taking them because they made me go to the bathroom. But as some of you said, Apple Cider Vinegar helps remove the toxins from your body. So I will try to use them again. Thanks."

I found your website through an employee. I can't believe it but ACV healed my reflux and gas problems. I take 1 to 1-1/2 tablespoons of ACV with water every morning before I do or eat anything. I don't have any problems anymore. I can sleep laying flat now. It is wonderful. I will use this for the rest of my life."

Have tried many other things, such as Beano, Gas-X, etc. Nothing really made much difference. Decided to try the ACV, and have noticed a remarkable improvement in just one week: hardly any gas pains, rumbling noises, bloating -- just a little amount (normal) of flatulence in the a.m. I take a couple of tablespoons after meals, straight out of the bottle."

I started using apple cidar vinegar to help with digestion since some of my gas didn't go away with cutting back the fast food. The Apple Cidar Vinegar really helps with these symptoms. I take 2 tbsp in the morning after breakfast, 2 after lunch and 2 or 3 tbsp before bed. I know it's alot but I now don't have strange noises coming from my stomache region while out in public."

It burned my throat, my esophogus, and stomach sooooo bad! After I realized I wasn't going to die (ha ha) I started to relax. Later in the evening I kept thinking...What is this feeling I'm feeling? I realized it was what I wasn't feeling...heartburn, gas and muscle pain. I might try it again...this time diluted of course."
Replies03/31/2011: Hia Ama from Miamisburg, Oh replies: "I loved your post. I too have used ACV with no pleasure to my tastebuds. Thanks Mom! However it has eliminated dibilitating menstral migraines. I have one more thing to add to the list of things to try for healing and well being. Stop referring to ailments as "yours". So many people claim illness as thier own... My headaches... My ulcer.. My PMS. Stop!"

[YEA] 07/29/2011: Pearl from Zanesville, Ohio writes: "I searched out this website by googling gas in upper back.
I ate spaghetti with tomato sauce two days in a row and both times I got sever pains in my upper back and I remember my mom and sister talking about gas in the back years ago, so right away I knew what was happening, I tried stretching and laying on objects to move the pain, and it helped for a second but the pain came right back. I decided to put 1 tsp of baking soda in an 8oz glass of warm water and it helped me to burp and it immediately took the pain away.
It is a miracle and I will make sure I always have it in my refrigerator. I use Apple Cider vinegar in some of my recipes and have always heard it is a good remedy for different ailments so I will start drinking it as needed after this last episode.
Thanks for all the information from this site. Natural is the way. Thanks so much!"
Replies[YEA] 10/24/2011: Louise from Houston, Tx replies: "Thank you, thank you, thank you. I have a high pain tolerance but this pain from gas was unbearable. 12/12/2011: Debra from San Diego, Ca, Usa replies: "I always use about a teaspoon of Baking Soda dissolved in about 1/4 cup of warm water, for heartburn/too much stomach acid. It works immediately unlike Rolaids, etc and is not only cheap but usually readily available at home.I brush my teeth with it too. I first put toothpaste on the brush and dip it in a small plastic container I keep in my bathroom. It removes plaque instantly and helps to keep my breath fresher.
I sprinkle about 1/2 a cup each week on top of the cat litter in the cat box to keep it from smelling. It works great in humid or rainy weather."
01/10/2012: 25yr Old Foodie from Brisbane, Qld, Australia replies: "As I'm writing this I can feel my stomach bubble from the baking soda. I also took two mild charcoal tablets and I'm sipping on tea. I've only gotten this sort of pain twice in my life, the last time it felt like I had a baby inside me trying to rip its way out. That was intense. I went to the hospital as I was really worried - they couldn't do anything as the beds were full and told me to wait! I eventually got better after originally taking 5 pills of two different pain killers, but jeez I wish they gave me reassurance that it was wind!Nonetheless, with my story told, don't sit around wallowing in pain like I did for the las half hour. Get off your bum and make some herbal tea, scull some baking soda mixture, and invest in some charcoal tablets."

06/29/2011: Suzieq from Minneapolis, Mn writes: "I have read through many of the posts here and I highly recommend using a 1/4 tsp. of baking soda in a glass of water for indigestion or gas. It works, period.
If you have a problem with sodium, you'll need to take that into consideration. This old remedy has been used for centuries and it works for me for either acid reflux, gas, or indigestion. I only use this once in a while, and you should not depend on this as an everyday routine from my perspective. Plain yogurt can also help with indigestion and gas by balancing your good bacteria, but it does not give the fast relief you get with the baking soda and water.
My advice is quit taking drugs if there is a healthy and safe alternative."

BITTERS

[YEA] 10/02/2007: brett from Brooklyn, New York writes: "RE: Cure Gas Fast Angostura bitters remedy... I'm a night club dj. On several occasions I've gotten terrible stomach pain just before a gig at a bar. When I say terrible stomach pain, I mean eye watering, agonizing pain that comes in waves. Sometimes it feels like my stomach is in a knot and other times like it's being ripped apart. I've asked bartenders what I should drink. A few have suggested bitters. I'm not sure if this is the same as Angostura bitters, but it's the only thing I remember working. Generally after drinking something with bitters, my pain goes away in an hour or so. Without the bitters, I'm in pain all night and sometimes for a day or two after."

[YEA] 05/01/2007: Wayne from Port of Spain, Trinidad, West Indies writes: "Hi All: I'm from the island of Trinidad in the West Indies. Since I was a child, one of the standard remedies for alimentary disturbances - belly aches, gas etc. - has been a few dashes of Angostura bitters (AB) in a little cool water. AB is made only in Trinidad but is famous worldwide as a beverage taste enhancer. However, it was originally developed by a famous German doctor to treat his wartime patients for alimentary disturbances. Locally it is still used for same especially by "olden" folk. You can look it up yourself on the net. Regards"

CARAWAY SEED TEA

[BETTER BUT NOT CURED] 11/01/2010: Iben from Bergen, Norway writes: "I've suffered from bad bloating and digestive problems my whole adult life. I was told by one specialist that I probably have IBS, but that I didn't need to bother with tests because there's not much to do about it besides learn which foods to avoid etc. Eliminating milk (besides buttermilk/kefir and butter) and cutting down on grains in recent months has helped a lot, but I saw another doctor who pointed out that IBS is a diagnosis of exclusion and I may as well find out if there's more to it than irritable bowels. So I'm now being tested for allergies, intolerances and any diseases that might be lurking in the stomach-area. I am excited to hear about the results of the tests, of course, but I'm more excited about just having discovered the wonders of CARAWAY-TEA! A few days ago it hit me: carraway seeds boiled with cabbage completely eliminates the otherwise hellish bloating (in me, anyway). So why not carraway on it's own?
And sure enough, just a teaspoon or two per cup of water (I either let the seeds boil for a few seconds before steeping, or crush them in a mortar and pour boiled water over) has made me a new and happier person. For over a week now I have been moving around with ease, no gas-attacks lasting for days or even hours, I'm no longer distracted by pains in my stomach and stiffness because of cramps. The strange thing is, it hasn't helped my over-all digestion because my bowel-movements are still helter-skelter. But without a doubt it works directly and efficiently on the gas. Supposedly you can chew it raw before meals, if you're prone to indigestion. I tried that, too, but didn't notice a difference so I'll stick with the after-meal tea (better-tasting than raw and dry)."
Replies11/03/2010: Coregon from Medford, Or replies: "I used to have terrible IBS. I found that avoiding dairy helped tremendously also. I no longer have IBS. I attribute this recovery to stopping my diet soda intake (it was hard, but what a difference! ) and taking 3,000 mg (or more) of MSM daily. I've heard that aloe vera juice can also soothe the gut and clear this up. * I also used colloidal silver first to clear up any bacterial infections that may be in the system. ** Note: If you are using ANY artificial sweeteners, this will worsen IBS symptoms, at least it did in my experience and in my mother's experience."

[YEA] 08/09/2008: Tavia from Atlanta, Georgia writes: "I used to have extreme flatulence and Coconut oil cured me. I've tried everything from Beno to "Mia Sposa es Loca" Oil and nothing has ever stopped my flatulence like Coconut oil. I'm a believer! I've also noticed that I no longer have the need to wear my Depend's Adult Diapers anymore. Thanks coconut oil you saved my marriage!"
Replies08/13/2011: Crissy from Houston, Texas, Usa replies: "Hello! How much and how often did you take the oil. I was in the ER today for pains I thought was appendicitis. Thank God they couldn't find anything wrong. I'm still a little uneasy that they don't know. They mentioned it may be gas. My belly is still sore. So I'm scared it may be undiagnosed appendicitis. Hope it's gas. Thanks for your time."
[YEA] 01/07/2012: Lou from Tyler, Tx replies: "I take coconut oil capsules. They clear constipation. They are also anti-fungal. They work great! I too get this appendix like pain and found that if I take two wormwood combination capsules (cloves, wormwood and black walnut hull), the pain goes away. Just take 2 before eating for a couple of weeks."
01/24/2012: Elizard from Santa Monica, Ca, Us replies: "Lou, you realize what your issue is don't you? You do know what you're taking... Black walnut, cloves and wormwood... Is for parasites. Clearly if that's working for you and you have these symptoms, that's the problem you're dealing with. You should do a full cleanse with the combination you're taking and solve your problem. Also eat a non-parasite diet (no sugar, foods they don't like such as carrots, cranberry and garlic) along with it and get rid of the 'disharmony' (my acupuncturist has a nice way of talking about these things)."
