Gallstone Remedies
"Gall stones usually remain asymptomatic initially. They start developing symptoms once the stones reach a certain size (>8mm). A main symptom of gallstones is commonly referred to as a gallstone attack, also known as biliary colic, in which a person will experience intense pain in the upper abdominal region that steadily increases for approximately thirty minutes to several hours. A victim may also encounter pain in the back, ordinarily between the shoulder blades, or pain under the right shoulder. In some cases, the pain develops in the lower region of the abdomen, nearer to the pelvis, but this is less common. Nausea and vomiting may occur.
These attacks are intensely painful, similar to that of a kidney stone attack. One way to alleviate the abdominal pain is to drink a full glass of water at the start of an attack to regulate the bile in the gallbladder, but this does not work in all cases. Another way is to take magnesium followed by a bitter liquid such as coffee or swedish bitters an hour later. Bitter flavors stimulate bile flow. A study has found lower rates of gallstones in coffee drinkers.
Often, these attacks occur after a particularly fatty meal and almost always happen at night. Other symptoms include abdominal bloating, intolerance of fatty foods, belching, gas, and indigestion. If the above symptoms coincide with chills, lowgrade fever, yellowing of the skin or eyes, and/or clay-colored stool, a doctor should be consulted immediately." (Wikipedia)

TED'S REMEDIES
Ted from Bangkok, Thailand writes: "So, I must start with the basics first. Gallstones are really caused by a magnesium deficiency. In fact, at LEAST 95% of the U.S. population is magnesium deficient. Magnesium comes from food sources like fresh green vegetables. I have a strong suspicion that gallstones are also formed by lecithin deficiency as well as magnesium: potassium: phosphorous: boron being imbalanced. In practice, magnesium and boron supplementation will balance the necessary problems and bring to balance the blood calcium - which is quite high in U.S. Finland, by the way, had the same problems as in U.S. until they got wise and made a law by adding magnesium to their food and/or water supply. They now do not have high rates of heart attack as in U.S. but they have one of the lowest in the world (lower than Japan). My suspicion is that gallstones are also going in the same direction. Let's go back to magnesium....
I personally supplement myself with 2000 milligrams of magnesium chloride (other forms do not do well except of course magnesium bicarbonate, which can be made at your home by bubbling magnesium carbonate with carbon dioxide in 90% water solution, since magnesium bicarbonate can only exists in water). Well here is an article of magnesium which you can read about:
source: http://www.mgwater.com/rod16.shtml
In addition to the prevention of kidney stones there is evidence that magnesium can prevent gallstones Our medical dictionary says that the gallstones is a concretion formed in the bladder or the biliary ducts, composed, in varying amounts, of cholesterol, bilirubin, and other elements found in bile. The biliary ducts are in the liver. In this case also, magnesium is a specific preventive factor in the formation of gall- or liver stones. For one thing, in a previous chapter, we showed that magnesium has the effect of reducing the amount of cholesterol in the bloodstream.
The matter is mentioned in a communication to the French Academy of Medicine (June 23, 1931) by Pierre Delbet, M.D., reproduced in his book Politique Préventif du Cancer. He says that when the diet is rich in magnesium it immediately shows up in the bile. In this manner the quantity of the magnesium in the bile can be actually doubled. This was confirmed by Bretau. Dr. Delbet also mentions clinical work by Drs. Godard and Palios, which showed that such increase in magnesium can have a favorable influence on gallstones Dr. Delbet studied human bile in the laboratory and found that the addition of magnesium drove out practically all the cholesterol, and he noted that the addition of magnesium added a pigmentation to the bile, gave it a deeper coloring. Its effect on the bile was to make the cholesterol in it more soluble.
Dr. Delbet then adds that, "It is a clear result of experiments ... on the action of magnesium chloride on the elements that make up calculi [stones] that the addition of a food ration of magnesium in the form of halogenated salts has the power to reduce chance of biliary calculus formation.
"This conclusion is confirmed by facts. I know a great number of people who take delbiase regularly. None of them has vesicular trouble. That's probably not very convincing. You can't prove that those who take delbiase would have had biliary calculus if they bad not taken it. On the other hand, quite a few patients have biliary calculus without being magnesium deficient." In other words, there are other causes of gallstones than a magnesium deficiency.
However, says Delbet, "cases of the gall bladder being healed by the regular use of halogenated magnesium salts are numerous."
Delbet gives an interesting account of a doctor who used magnesium in connection with difficulties he had with the bile:
"The clinical facts have, for the most part, been observed by chance. My followers take much magnesium chloride. They are enthusiasts propagandizing for it. Others adopt it, partly, perhaps, because it often produces systemic excitation. Among those who take it for its tonic action, several are afflicted with various ailments which disappear, and they report from time to time successes I did not expect, acting on ailments that are out of my province. Thus I am led to discuss matters of which I do not know a great deal.
"About the preparation of the sick for operations, I have reported the action of magnesium chloride on the digestive tract.
"Laborde states that it has a strong action on the secretion of bile. I have no experience on this point, but I have confirmed with de Wades that, introduced into the duodenum, it leads to evacuation of the tube. By this mechanism it can render service in infections of the biliary duct. One of our associates has sent me his own observation which seems interesting to me. He had repeated attacks of inflammation of the gall bladder and the biliary ducts With fevers up to 39.6º, chronic intestinal troubles (diarrhea, distention, painful spasms after eating). In spite of a strict regime and treatment by physical agents on the liver and abdomen (diathermy and infra-red light), he showed no improvement. He put himself on delbiase in a dosage of 2 tablets (1 gr. 20) a day, stopping all other medication. Here are the results: it is he who has recounted them. "No more liver attacks, no more epigastric pains; intestinal troubles improved. After several weeks the stools became normal, as they had not been for five months. In two months, a weight gain of 10 kilograms. Transformation of the appearance, appetite normal, digestion easy, in spite of a return to hard work. The possibility, without the least sensation of fatigue, of taking up once more my habitual occupations."
So we pause and look back on what we have been reading. It sounds too good to be true-- magnesium seems to be good for anything that ails you. Therefore, why don't we hear much about it? The newspapers sing the praises of the wonder drugs in headlines, but the action of this miracle mineral is ignored. One wonders about the honesty of medicine. There have been hundreds of researches on magnesium. Is there a specific reason why it is being ignored?
Also, some EDTA supplements and/or humic acid/fulvic acid might help with gallstones by reducing oxidant actions resulting in gallstones And one more thing, oxidized form of cholesterol might also be responsible for gallstones. When I say oxidized form of cholesterol, I mean overcooked foods. They might be a source of those soft gallstones you heard about. This is especially dangerous when you are doing cooking using microwave, because we get all sorts of nonexistent organics compounds not found in nature. In fact, there was a Swiss study which found cholesterol level to be higher within a week of drinking and eating food heated with microwave. Chemicals formed from microwave cooking such as d-proline is a neurotoxin and may be responsible for alzheimer and parkinson's disease. l-proline is found in nature and it is safe. So stay away from microwave cooking and learn to eat raw food. Gelatin is especially important in our diet in helping absorb vitamins and riding ourselves of toxins.
Fulvic acid/Humic Acid to Loosen gallstones:
Fulvic acid/humic acid acts like a chelating agent (as in EDTA) which attaches to the gallstones causing them to be loose and dissolving them. It is a traditional used. It also reduces inflammation by increasing the immune system. How or what actions fulvic does really is that it removes "free metal radicals" which causes hydroxyl radicals to form in our body thus making it a good source of antioxidant, and at the same time loosening the gallstones
One of my personal theory of formation of gallstones has to do with colloidal suspension. Eating or drinking foods which DESTROYS COLLOIDAL DISPERSION is what causes our body to precipitate forming gallstones This is caused really from eating canned foods, soda pop and frozen dinner. It is well known that aluminum destroys colloidal suspension and causing a precipitation resulting in gallstones. Eating foods deficient in magnesium and excess in calcium make it even worse. Denatured foods found in canned food has no colloidal suspension really does not help either.
One of the easy techniques to increase colloidal dispersion (and thus zeta potentials), thus preventing gallstones in the first place is drinking water with lots of magnesium (hard water) and some potassium (not much) whose water is alkaline (you can add baking soda or sodium bicarbonate - but must be free of aluminum!) This is the reason why EDTA is helpful in prevention of gallstones, by chelating aluminum out of the body. Antacids, toothpaste tubes, rice cookers, cooking utensils, candy wrappers (chocolate kisses), and antiperspirants are the worse offenders because they have aluminum. You can read an eye opening article for colloidal suspension here:
http://www.luminet.net/~wenonah/riddick/index.html
(truly a classic article if somewhat technical for the general audiences - pictures is a real eye opener what it does to your body!)
Blood high in cholesterol or fats will also clump together without adequate lecithin (from raw yellow egg yolk and soy milk).
Nicotinic acid, known as Vitamin B3 known commonly as niacin maybe useful in reducing cholesterol buildup and hence reduced gallstones. There is a big distinctive difference between vitamin B3 called Niacinamide and Nictonic Acid. Do not use niacinamide as it is harmful to certain enzymes in suppressing SIR2 enzymes, use only nicotinic acid. I suspect also that a deficiency in nicotinic acid might have something to do with gallstones. The usual dose is about 500 milligrams/day. The dosage used in RDA (recommended daily allowance) does not have therapeutic doses used in orthomolecular therapies, commonly used by Linus Pauling.
Please remember one thing environmental toxins are what influences our health the most. If you have fish aquarium than you know what its like to put tap water (with chlorine) killing the fishes instantly. In fact fish aquarium, chlorine destroys colloidal dispersions which is why fishes are killed. pH, gH (general hardness), kH (carbonate hardness) are important fishes as it is for our own life also. Therefore it may be important to put dechlorinator when we drink water as we do to fishes. (dechlorinator used in aquarium is really sodium thiosulfate). You can restore colloidal dispersion of water somewhat by adding this. The chemical is quite safe since it is found in human bodies and it is used as a treatment for cyanide poisoning and prevention of side effects in chemotherapy treatment."
Additional Info emailed: "There is two factors that might be helpful in dissolving gallstone. From another point of view that is. If gallstone's component is cholesterol and calcium then dissolving cholesterol by eating lecithin and dissolving calcium by supplementing with EDTA will do the trick. Here is a way to prove that EDTA will work. Get a very old glass that looks very cloudy. As you know it is impossible to clean the cloudy glass. The main component of the cloudiness is caused by calcium carbonates clinging on to the glass. Get disodium EDTA, and wash it. The EDTA dissolved in water will remove them in seconds just by rubbing your fingers on it. Now 1 gram of EDTA will dissolve about 201 mg of Calcium Carbonate. That is proof enough for me that it will dissolve those gallstones, as well as kidney stones. I hope this helps."
Replies02/04/2011: Rhonda from Edgefield, SC, US replies: "What is EDTA and humic acid/fulvic acid and where do we get these?"
03/10/2011: D.l. from Sulphur Springs, Texas replies: "Humic and fulvic acids are formed from the degradation of dead plant matter. They are supposed to be very good antioxidents. I found some at my health food store. You can also order it online."
01/18/2012: Richard from Manila, Philippines replies: "Hello, Sharing here the easy-to-do-at-home gall bladder cleansing: REMOVING GALLSTONES NATURALLYIt has worked for many. If it works for you please pass on the good news. Chiu Nan is not charging for it, so we should make it free for everyone. Your reward is when someone, through your word of mouth, benefits from the regime. Gallstones may not be everyone's concern. But they should be because we all have them. Moreover, gallstones may lead to cancer. "Cancer is never the first illness, " Chiu Nan points out. "Usually, there are a lot of other problems leading to cancer.
In my research in China, I came across some materials which say that people with cancer usually have stones. We all have gallstones. It's a matter of big or small, many or few. One of the symptoms of gallstones is a feeling of bloatedness after a heavy meal. You feel like you can't digest the food. If it gets more serious, you feel pain in the liver area." So if you think you have gallstones, Chiu Nan offers the following method to remove them naturally.
The treatment is also good for those with a weak liver, because the liver and gallbladder are closely linked.
- For the first five days, take four glasses of apple juice every day. Or eat four or five apples, whichever you prefer. Apple juice softens the gallstones. During the five days, eat normally.
- On the sixth day, take no dinner.
- At 6 PM , take a teaspoon of Epsom salt (magnesium sulphate) with a glass of warm water.
- At 8 PM , repeat the same. Magnesium sulphate opens the gallbladder ducts.
- At 10 PM , take half cup olive oil (or sesame oil) with half cup fresh lemon juice. Mix it well and drink it. The oil lubricates the stones to ease their passage.
The next morning, you will find green stones in your stools. "Usually they float," Chiu Nan notes. "You might want to count them. I have had people who passes 40, 50 or up to 100 stones. Very many." "Even if you don't have any symptoms of gallstones, you still might have some. It's always good to give your gall bladder a clean-up now and then. PASS THIS AND YOU MAY HELP OTHERS!"

[YEA] 12/17/2011: Vicki from Union, New Jersey writes: "My attacks started about a year ago occurring randomly every few months becoming progressively more frequent which lead me on a search for a natural remedy. I found this site earlier today and ironically had an attack tonight. So I mixed 3 tbs of ACV with apple juice and even though I read all the accounts of how well this works I have to admit I am utterly amazed. Within 40 minutes the pain is completely gone! I am SO grateful for finding this page. I thought I had to post as more proof for anyone else out there who is looking for help. Thank you!!"

Our question is, if the drink is taken on a regular/daily basis, will it help to prevent the attacks? Also, if it is taken regularly can she be a little more liberal with her diet? As it stands now she is avoiding all dairy and fat and she still has attacks."

[SIDE EFFECTS] 04/05/2011: Liz from Irving, Tx writes: "Hello, I have been having gallstone issues for the past month and a half without realizing it for the first month, then after the pain and nausea became so bad that it drove me to the hospital I found out that I either had gallstones or gastritis. I started doing some research and started taking Lecithin, Magnesium, Milk Thistle, Burdock Root, Cinnamon and Ginger.
And it all started to go away very quickly, and I could actually feel the stones moving through the ducts and out!
Then about a week ago I heard about Apple Juice, and I wanted to do as much as I could to disolve the gallstones as quickly as possible so I tried it - but it upset my stomach and gave me diarrhea so bad that I had to stop. (My mother told me it did the same thing when I was a baby, so she wasn't surprised. ) And the nausea started to go away immediately after stopping it.
Then I noticed a few days ago that I was having horrible Heat Intolerance in 80 degree weather and other symptoms of low electrolytes- dizziness, confusion, faitigue- and I was having symptoms of Malabsorbsion from the very beginning- so I started taking apple cider vinegar to replenish my electrolytes and liquide multi-vitamines to help my body absorb them better. But I think the apple cider vinegar has made my nausea come back just as strong as before!
When I stopped the apple juice, the nausea went away. Now that I'm taking the apple cider vinegar it's come back, and I can barely eat anything!
I feel much better when I take it, and I haven't had any painful or uncomfortable feelings in my gallbladder area for two days now. I feel almost completely normal except for the upset stomach, and there is now a burning/clawing sensation going on in my stomach along with it that I think is a symptom of high stomach acid caused by the apple cider vinegar.
I'm worried that if I stop the apple cider vinegar I will run low on electrolytes again, and since I'm still not digesting my food all the way so I know that is still a possiblity.
Is there anything I can take with the apple cider vinegar to stop the nausea? I've heard about taking baking soda with it. Does that work?"
Replies[BETTER BUT WITH SIDE EFFECTS] 04/22/2011: Liz from Irving, Tx replies: "Hi, this is Liz, I'm responding to my own post to let you know what's happened to me since I made that first post.About two days after I made that post I passed a huge gallstone that had been slowly working it's way out, and obviously making me feel nauseous and terrible while doing so. I was sitting on the couch feeling horrible, then, boom! Felt it pass, got a lot of gurgling sounds from up around my gallbladder area and instantly felt much better! Nausea gone! Yay!
A couple days after that I did my first Liver Flush with olive oil and lemon juice. I flushed out over a 1/4 cup of pee sized to almost marble sized stones. I have done three more since then, and durring the third I was amazed when I flushed out two huge stones that were between the size gumballs and golfballs. I couldn't believe it, especially since I hadn't felt any pain or discomfort while doing the flush. I was still passing around the same amount of stones, around a 1/4 or so each time. The last flush I did I didn't pass any at all, which is kinda suspicious considering that in all the ones I'd done before I had passed so many. But I do feel better, so I'm going wait and do another one and see what happens then.
I didn't realize that by doing these flushes you're also giving your body a really good detox. Your liver can hold a lot of toxins so if you do a flush it's likely going to release some of them. So if anyone out there is doing one of these flushes and it makes you feel worse or feel kinda sick afterwards, it might not be that it's made you worse, it could be detox. Remember to drink lots of water to help flush everything out and keep up on your electrolytes and it will pass faster and make you feel better.
Also I wanted to say that I've found that taking 4 Tablespoons of Epsom Salt was WAY too much for me. My mother and have had the same amount of success with only taking 2 teaspoons - 1 tablespoon once in the evening and then once again in the morning. But of course everybody's different, so that might not work for you.
I have had No Problems Whatsoever with taking ACV or Apple Juice since passing that first gallstone, and I take back everything I said about it making me feel sick and nauseous. It's actually very good and recommended for nausea and stomach problems becuase it settles the stomach and is good for your body.
Thank you. Good luck to all of you, and thank you so much to everyone who has posted their stories here, you've helped me so much! - Liz"

[YEA] 01/31/2012: Nicole from Sydney, Australia writes: "A few years ago I was diagnosed with Gall Stones and was having to sleep upright on the couch due to the reflux. My doctor said well all we can do is schedule you in for an operation to remove your Gall Bladder as if we just remove the stones they will eventually come back. I argued that I didn't want a part of my body removed for no real good reason but doctor knows best, right? There was a waiting list at the hospital so I suffered for about 4 weeks until my operation date and in the meantime a colleague at work noticed I wasn't in the best health and asked me what was wrong and I told her. The next day she came to me and said she had mentioned me to her Chilean Grandmother who passed on this old folk cure for me to try.
You need to eat a minimum of 8 big apples in a 24 hour period (green are the best as they are the most acidic but you can mix it up).
Starting at breakfast on day one, eat nothing but raw apples for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Day two repeat as per day one. On day two before you go to bed drink 2/3 cup of virgin olive oil, follow this with a 1/3 cup of lemon juice (to get the oil out of your mouth). Then go to sleep on your right side for the night. Freshly squeezed apple juice and herbal teas are ok for these 2 days but don't skimp on the apples, the more the better.
The acid in the apples will break down the gallstones naturally and the olive oil will help with the elimination of the broken down stones. This is amazing and worked for me so well that my awful symptoms immediately passed and I could lie down in my bed again to sleep that 2nd night.
I went to my pre-op appointment and when the nurse asked how I am I said I'm fine now, the stones are gone. She didn't believe me until another ultrasound showed I was all clear! She then asked me how I did it and said she would tell a relative of hers about it.
Unsurprisingly the doctor didn't believe a word of my story and just said there must have been a mistake in my original ultrasound to which I replied "I've not mistaken the pain I've been in the past few weeks, it was real and now it's completely gone". I still have both ultrasounds and my whole body is intact. I do the apple diet every year as a preventative although my diet has also changed for the better so therefore I don't expect to have Gall Stones ever again."

I would like to dissolve them and I want to find out what the best formula for doing this is. I am not only interested in the formula/substance but also want to know the science behind how it works.
A friend of mine who is into natural remidies recomended a South American herb called Chanca Piedra which he said translates as "break stone. " I can't find any dosage information or instructions on the most effective way to use it. I have made tea with it but am considering putting it into capsules. 11/10/2011: Molly from Qualicum, Bc Canada replies: "I read Andreas Moritz book on the "Amazing Liver & Gallbladder Flush". It is an excellent tool to help get rid of stones. Lately I found the enteric coated peppermint capsules have almost been a miracle. They are supposed to help dissolve the stones, plus the pain is gone within about 15 minutes. You have to take them in between meals on an empty stomach. Sometimes I just take them in the middle of the night if I wake up. Gold Coin Grass tincture helps (available from SensibleHealth. Com) and some of their other tinctures help clear the congested bile. Another good site is GallbladderAttack.com"

Male and a diabetic for long. Can anybody tell me how long I have to wait before sonography again to know the benefit if any?"

08/21/2011: Alexandra from Chicago, Illinois writes: "Hi,
I was diagnosed this past week with Gallstones. I am a 26 yr old female. The Dr. in the ER said I need my Glallbladder removed (big surprise, yeah right). I had nightmarish Biliary Colic and could not breathe during the Colic attack. I've heard a great deal about these olive oil, lemon, epsom cleanses. My question is: How many of you have actually done any of these cleanses and then CONFIRMED via Ultrasound that the cleanse ACTUALLY was successful in removing the stones from the Gallbaldder. It's not enough to just see what you THINK are Gallstones in the toilet as it could be a byproduct of the ingredients of the cleanse. Can anyone say that they had confirmation of success by getting an Ultrasound AFTER their cleanse. I am very interested in dissolving my stones, as my Dr. Tells me that the size of the stones are "key" in terms of being able to pass them safely. Thanks much ^_^."
Replies08/21/2011: T from Houston, Usa replies: "Hi, You will find http://gallbladderattack.com/index.shtml very helpful. Helped resolve my gallstones, especially eating beets before each meal.I was told not to do the cleanse, which could contribut to the stones getting lodged in the duct. So I have not dont those.
But what I did that helped eliminate them (in addition to eating beets) is an alternative healing called 'pranic healing'. Please google it and find someone who can do this for you, in a few sessions, they can be dissolved and you can verify this with an ultrasound."
01/29/2012: Brad Shad from Providence, Rhode Island replies: "To Vandana, about questioning the liver stones. I have done 3 flushes with the second one producing the best result. Im not sure either what is being expelled except what I obviously read online. But I did read somewhere that olive oil will not co-agulate. It needs to be much cooler to bind and being 98.6 degrees it's not happening. "

It helps you go to sleep and stay asleep so as not to be disturbed by the discomfort you may experience through the night. I prefer using fresh squeezed pink grapefruit juice with the olive oil (personal taste) and read a little trick that I tried the last time.... That is to add a tablespoon of grapefruit juice to the Epsom salts to help mask the taste and it definitely helps. I also found drinking both the oil mixture and the Epsom salt mixture through a straw helps cut down on the taste. Thanks for the apple cider vinegar tip and the magnesium advice too..... I am still making gallstones and can't figure out why. I am definitely trying all of the suggestions."

My grandma had hers out 50 years ago, but I'm in the hospital as we speak after her second surgery in two months to remove them. In fact, her gastroenterologist said he'd never seen so many stones in a patient. She pretty much lives on soda, canned food, and frozen dinners, like Ted said. I'm going to see if I can get her to drink ACV."

03/23/2010: Roro from Dublin, Ireland writes: "Hello,
I have just had an ultrasound and I have a Gallstone that is 1.9cm Is it possible to do a gall bladder flush with a stone this size. Will it not get stuck in the bile duct."
[YEA] 07/14/2010: Gigi from Staten Island, Ny replies: "I had my first gall bladder attack in November 2009. I knew what it was because all the women in my family have had their gall bladders removed. Ultrasound revealed that my gall bladder was completely filled with sludge and stones, but it was not enlarged or inflamed. I was told by two doctors that surgery was my only option. I refused and went the natural route. I went on a strict low fat diet, lots of fruits and veggies, veggie juices, chicken, turkey and fish. My only fat was olive oil. This helped a lot but I still had occasional colic attacks in the middle of the night and belching after eating. I went through a period of acid reflux (2 tbs. ACV and honey in warm water took care of it). Then I shifted to not digesting my food at all and throwing it up 6 hours after eating. That was awful. It prompted me to visit a chiropractor/nutritionist who was very into herbal treatment for health conditions. He has been a God send. He gave me digestive enzymes which immediately took care of the problem. He started me on liquid herbs (Milk Thistle, Stone Root, and Fringe Tree) 30 drops each, 3x/day to start dissolving the stones and thinning out the sludge. I also took spirulina, and aloe vera. After six weeks on this regimen, I did my first liver/gall bladder flush (Dr. Clarke's) and passed about 40 bright green stones, most were pea sized, a few were larger. However, I didn't notice much improvement in the way I felt. I took a break for a week then went back on the herbs and did another flush about three weeks later. I passed another 15 or so green stones, same size range. Then, I passed what I can only describe as rocks. Smaller, beige colored, calcified stones (about 20 or so). It was unbelievable. After this flush, the belching and the night attacks went away, except for two nights when I felt pressure (not pain) just enough to wake me, but didn't last long. I just completed my third flush today and passed 43 more stones. I will continue to flush until all the stones are out. I truly believe that you can cleanse and heal your gall bladder, but you have to be diligent through the process and willing to make long term changes in your diet. I have also lost weight, which is a nice benefit to my new healthy diet. FYI - The flush is easy and painless. You just have to set aside an entire day for it. Another tip for gall bladder attacks- a glass of organic apple juice and a heating pad usually relieves an attack within an hour."
[YEA] 07/22/2010: Gigi from Staten Island, New York replies: "For those of you who are afraid of flushing. . . Don't be. I wish I had done it sooner. Some of my stones were surprisingly large, but they passed with no problems, no discomfort. I do strongly recommend preparing for it beforehand. Lots of apple juice is a must as it softens the stones. Milk Thistle is good for the liver, Stone Root and Fringe Tree work on softening and breaking up stones. Take these herbs for a few weeks before flushing. The epsom salts open up the ducts so the stones can pass through easily. It really works. Go for it."
[YEA] 11/23/2010: Suzanne from Canton, Ga replies: "Just completed my first gall bladder and liver flush. I was diagnosed 2 years ago with a diseased gall bladder and was told I needed to have my gall bladder removed. At the time, I didn't have insurance and could not afford the surgery. After much prayer, I decided to try changing my diet. I went completely organic and removed all processed foods from my diet. Began taking ACV, but not regularly. Symptoms went away for almost 2 years and I have felt great. However, recently I began to experience the dull ache just under my right rib cage again. I've been reading about Hulda Clark's gall bladder and liver flush for about 2 years and was afraid to do it. I was afraid something would get lodged and I might end up in the hospital.
But, after reading the comments on earth clinic, I decided to go ahead and try. It was as many have said easy and painless. I did experience nausea during the night, and still have a little nausea going on. I think as soon as I eat the nausea should pass. But, I have collected maybe 60 stones varying in size. The largest was about 7 cm. I will probably try this cleanse again in about 3 weeks. Thanks to everyone who posts their experiences!"
10/13/2011: Faisal from Blackburn, Lancashire replies: "Hello, did you use the 'ornithine' mentioned in Dr.Klarks method? And is it necessary to do a parasite & kidney flush before doing gallbladder flush?"
[YEA] 11/01/2011: Brenda from Calgary, Canada replies: "I just did the gall bladder flush on saturday. I followed Clark's directions with the following changes:- for 3 days prior I took Apple Cider Vinegar twice a day. Also, the day before I took Cascara Sagrada to clean out my bowels.
- I substituted 3 fresh lemons for the grapefruit. I did not mix the olive oil and lemon juice together. I just drank the oil in one shot and then followed with the lemon juice in one shot.
- I layed down immediately on my back (head slightly raised) with a heating pad on my gall bladder and liver area. I didn't move at all for the first half hour. I had ready at one click, an old movie I enjoy watching, that I call my 'comfort movies' so the time went by fast and I was really relaxed. I turned onto my right side after that.
- I didn't take the 'ornithine' as mentioned. I did wake up at 1am, as our dog was barking, and once awake, I noticed everything really rumbling and felt a little nausea. After an hour of being awake I took a sleep aide with just 2 gulps of water. Slept till about 6:30am.
After completing the second glass of morning water and epsom salt I started to pass stones. I am still in shock at the amount of stones I passed. I think I passed close to 1000 stones. 10 stones were extremely large, about 100 mid-sized, and just hundreds and hundreds of pea size stones. My stones were all yellow/fluorescent green in color.
My right side is very tender the last 3 days but no more gall bladder pain. I am eating a very light diet to give my liver and gall bladder time to rest and recuperate.
This worked very well for me. And anyone that doubts they are stones, let me tell you, it hurt to pass the large stones out my rectum. They are hard. They have not dissolved after 3 days, as some websites that doubt this process suggest, and believe it is just a side effect of the oil and lemon juice. In my opinion, that kind of thing that resembles stones, are the result of cleansing the intestines. That's why a kidney and intestinal cleanse are suggested first before you try the gallbladder/liver cleanse. You get better results if you do (in my opinion... Once again)
Happy Health Everyone! Thank you to Earth Clinic for this site!"
01/13/2012: Desertpunky from Socaldesert, Ca/usa replies: "I have been a follower and reader of Dr. Hulda Clark since 1995. Her protocol is to parasite cleanse then kidney cleanse and then liver cleanse. She encourages this because she believes as well as her research reveals that some of the 'stones' are calcified parasites. Unburden your body of the parasites, clean the kidneys because they will be burdened by handling all the 'poisons' from the liver cleanse. The Epsom salts keep the bile ducts open by relaxing them. The stones will exit easier. I have done this cleanse several times, but busy schedule precludes me from a thorough kidney cleanse.During the liver cleanse, usually my body sucks up all the magnesium and I don't even get loose stools, so I don't know how much of the stones come out. The ornithine is necessary to clear the brain of the ammonia of any die-off of parasites and will work for anyone with insomnia problems, despite a liver cleanse.
On another note, we as we get older have more of a problem of less acid in our stomachs than more. A shot of ACV or sip all day helps that acid increase and aid digestion. We need acid in the stomach to digest food as well as kill any parasites. These days, these doctors are setting people up for disease/parasitic issues because we are all killing the acid in our stomachs with OTC antacids, etc. For 'heart burn' we take some water with ACV to cut the upset. This is our remedy and it works for us."
01/28/2012: Vandana from Phnom Penh, Cambodia replies: "I tried this method and sure enough there were green pea like structures expelled out the next day. I, in my curiosity wanted to get these things tested. I kept them out to dry and after two days noticed the "stones" decreasing in size, they also exuded an oily stuff. The "stones" turned mushy. There were no remains of the so called stones after another two days. Finally, the picture came to the forefront. This is not expulsion of stones, it is saponification, a process somewhat like soap making. The oil, acid in and the lemon juice react to form those "stones". The epsom salt is a laxative and that is why they are expelled out. How do I otherwise see the olive oil which I drank on my drying dish? I am not at all convinced by this method. Also, how does the lemon juice and olive oil reach or have any effect on the gallbladder so as to push them out? The bile reaches the digestive tract, the food does not go through the liver. Just give it a thought before you do this. I did it and now I am convinced that it has nothing to do with liver cleanse.Has anyone ever got those "stones" tested in a lab?
If yes, I would like to know about it."

[YEA] 01/27/2010: Lovelylia from San Diego, Ca writes: "Gallstones Pain Nausea = Nightmare!
My first gallbladder attack came on abruptly in my early twenties. I had just started school at San Diego State University. I was running to class, dodging gi-normous sheets of rain (this was in the late 90s during the infamous El Niño storms). Out of nowhere, a flood of nausea welled up from my solar plexus and I found myself doubled over. The pain was so sharp and sudden that it practically knocked the wind out of me. My boyfriend just stared at me wide-eyed and panic-stricken. After about 5 minutes, I recovered enough to make it to class, but afterward I was totally freaked out, because... I mean, what the heck WAS that?
The bouts of pain and nausea continued over the next week, and by then I was seriously tripping. All I could think was that 1. something was really, really wrong...like on an internal-organ-level, which was not something I'd ever imagined or had to deal with before, and 2. I didn't have health insurance.
So, I did the only thing I could think of at the time that my starving-student-budget would allow: I went to an urgent care center. The doctor there looked me over in hurried-urgent-care-doctor fashion and asked me 20 (or more) questions. He had the nurse give me a cup of what he called a "G.I. cocktail" which was some gooey white stuff that seemed to sort of numb my insides in a way that felt as weird as it tasted. Then he told me that, from what I'd just described, although he couldn't properly diagnose it without an ultrasound, he guessed that I had gallstones. He said that once you have them, the only way to get rid of them is by having your gallbladder surgically removed. He gave me prescriptions for an ultrasound and some Vicodin, neither of which I got filled because I couldn't afford to.
As soon as I got home, I started researching my condition on the internet. Surprisingly, I discovered that there were alternative perspectives of the disease ("I have a disease?"), its origins and how to treat it. It was pretty fascinating stuff, actually. My looming despair began to lighten to cautious optimism. Thus was my first foray into the world of alternative/holistic medicine and philosophy, where I still live to this day.
One remedy I discovered online at the time was Hulda Clark's olive oil/lemon gallbladder cleanse. I decided to go for it. I had no insurance and no money for conventional medical treatment, so why the ~hail~ not (sorry for the obscure El Niño joke :).
I followed the cleanse instructions as precisely as I could. I downed my olive oil/orange juice mixture and went straight to bed (per the instructions), overwhelmed by the competing emotions I was feeling all at once:
*** Scared ***
"What if this makes things worse and I end up in the emergency room?"
*** Skeptical ***
"It's probably a bunch of BS. Who am I to question the medical establishment's prognosis of a serious medical condition by attempting to cure it with some back alley remedy that uses $8 worth of items you can buy at a corner store."
*** Excited/Hopeful ***
"What if it works? I know it's gross, but I kinda can't wait to see what comes out."
Fast-forward to the following morning: O . M . G.
I could hardly believe it. That morning, nature called me out of bed before the sun came up, and I was stunned to see that I had just passed hundreds, I'm talking HUNDREDS of stones... and they were all BLACK. It was one of the grossest things I'd ever encountered. And the coolest. Though the quantity decreased with each round, I continued to pass more stones throughout the morning that averaged about the size of a pea. What a relief it was to know the this cr@p was no longer IN my body. It took a good deal of effort to refrain from broadcasting my experience to everyone I knew, as if they just couldn't wait to hear about the contents of my toilet.
My perspective of the Western Medical establishment was permanently altered that day. Basically, this inexpensive grocery store remedy had done what the urgent care doctor had said was not possible. I do accept that Western Medicine is necessary in some situations, but I generally find it unnecessarily invasive, as well as inadequate in its ability to treat root causes and address the whole person. As a result of my first experience with this liver cleanse home remedy, in addition to the pain and nausea subsiding, my skin cleared up and I began to lose some of the weight I had gained over the previous year. Also, during the several months following I was able to work through a LOT of emotional baggage that I had been mired in for years. From a Holistic point of view this is a perfectly reasonable and complementary side-effect of such a release.
MY LIVER CLEANSE, circa 1997:
* fruit and apple juice for breakfast
* baked potato w/ a little salt only for lunch
* no water or food after 2pm
* that afternoon, prepared solution of 3 Tbs Epsom salt & 3 cups water, stored in a container for later use
* 6pm - drank 3/4 cup of the Epsom salt water and immediately thought, "OMG...this stuff is actually considered fit for human consumption?"
* 8pm - drank 3/4 cup more of epsom salt water, "Yecht!"
* 10pm - juiced 3 medium sized oranges & combined with 1/2 cup extra virgin olive oil. Took it to my bedside in a plastic lidded container. Shook it several times and then drank it fairly quickly, as I expected it to be disgusting. Actually, it wasn't so bad... the Epsom salt was way worse!
* proceeded to lie completely still face up on my bed for 30 minutes and then somehow allowed myself to drift off to sleep
* the instructions say to take another 3/4 cup dose of Epsom salt when you wake up the next morning, but NOT before 6am, then take the remainder 2 hours later. That morning I woke up before 6am and started passing stones right away. A little later, I tried to take another dose of Epsom salt water, but I only ended up drinking about 1/2 of it until I convinced myself that the cleanse was already working and, therefore, that was a good enough excuse to avoid drinking the rest of that nasty concoction. I should mention, however, that in subsequent cleanses, I have followed the instructions more thoroughly, and the results are worth enduring the taste in the end.
The instructions I've seen for this same cleanse have been slightly modified since then, and these days can be found @ http://curezone.com/cleanse/liver/huldas_recipe.asp
I've tried variations of the cleanse with varying degrees of success.
In conclusion, YEA for me."
Replies07/15/2010: Kymom from Bowling Green, Ky replies: "I loved this story. It prompted me to do the cleanse last night myself. Good success so far. I didn't decide until lunch time yesterday to go ahead and do the cleanse because I knew I was going to be off today and really couldn't wait until the weekend because we are having out of town company. So I did have a salad with grilled chicken and vinegarette instead of a plain baked potato for lunch. I felt some nausea an hour or so after drinking the olive oil and juice at bedtime so, I thought maybe the heavier lunch was the cause. I also had a terrible headache when I woke up this morning, which has been one of the symptoms that led me to seek answers. Right side discomfort and tenderness of my rib cage was the first sign that my gall bladder was probably the culprit. Have also had a few rounds with acid reflux the past year. Hopefully, the headaches will improve now that I have cleansed. Thank you to everyone for your input."
[YEA] 12/13/2011: Su from Lombard, Il replies: "After reading the many posts here (some very entertaining! ), I decided to try the olive oil/lemon juice liver cleanse because it was the easiest to do and least time consuming. This was my first stab at any type of cleanse! I don't have stones... just wanted to get the gunk out of my liver.Had no water or food after 1pm.
Mixed 4 Tbs Epsom salt & 3 cups water in a plastic cup - 5pm - drank 3/4 cup of the Epsom salt water
7pm - drank 3/4 cup of epsom salt water - 9pm - squeezed 3 lemons and 1/2 cup extra virgin olive oil into a plastic container w/lid and shook it up. Took it to the bedroom to consume. The mixture smelled AWFUL and tasted just as bad! But I managed to choke it down (with a straw to the back of my throat) in about 10 minutes The tartness of the lemons is what made it very difficult for me! I laid down immediately after, my head propped up on two pillows and managed to sleep for 2-1/2 hrs before having to make a "#1 pit-stop".I went back to bed and slept until 5:30. Took another dose of 3/4 c Epsom salt mixture and slept until 7:30. Then consumed my final dose of Epsom mixture (yea! ). About 1/2 hour later, had a bowel movement. Peering in the bowl my stool was very dark, stringy and oily. I decided not to poke and prod at it (yuk! ), but satisfied that if the cleanse removed some of the gunk in my liver, that's enough for me! The only physical symptom I had throughout was a mild headache, but not sure if it was from not eating or from the cleanse itself."
02/10/2012: Alina from Bella Vista, Arkansas, United States replies: "I am posting hoping to get some advice about the gallbladder cleanse. I started having gallbladder pain and nausea about 2 months ago. I have done the cleanse twice now with absolutely no results. After the first cleanse, I thought maybe I did something wrong, maybe I missed something. The next time, I made sure I followed the instructions exactly as described in the Hulda method. The next morning I had some cramping and 2 normal bowel movements, no diarrhea, no stones, no chaff. I used 4 tbsp epsom salts. I am so disappointed. I am gagging on all these concoctions with no results, and continue to have the gallbladder discomfort. I have read numerous success stories and I am wondering what is wrong with me and why this seems to work for everyone else."
02/10/2012: Maria from Gippsland, Australia replies: "Hi Alina, Could it be liver pain as opposed to gall bladder? Some years ago I did the gall bladder cleanses, whilst I'm glad I did it was not the answer to my pain. It turned out I had other liver issues. You could try milk thistle, dandelion and turmeric to help the liver. In addition if you are getting the pain after eating also try digestive enzymes and/or ginger. Also check your ph level and if necessary do one of the alkalizing remedies here.Excess iron can cause liver pain so the next time you are at your Drs ask for the iron tests, do at least the ferritin and also saturation levels. All the best.
All the best."
02/10/2012: Carolyn from Abilene, Tx, Usa replies: "Have you been diagnosed with gallbladder problems, or are you self diagnosing? I thought my gallbladder was causing me pain as well since ultrasound showed a small stone, but after my gastro later checked me and performed a biopsy he said it's not gallbladder, but an h pylori type organism causing my problems."

[YEA] 01/17/2010: Matt from Tallahassee, Fl writes: "Gallstones - Liver / Gallbladder Flush
If you have gallstones, this WORKS! Absolutely. Follow the protocol and you will get relief and be stronger afterwards. I had to go to the ER at 4AM several months ago because of a gallstone attack. Dr. recommended surgery. I tried this instead and DANG if it didn't flush out over 400 stones and MAN I feel better. No more food allergies, breathing better no more reflux. It's a blessing =)!
Used the following protocol:
*Over 4 days, Consumed 1 gallon of organic, cold pressed Apple Juice (in a glass bottle).
*Ate 1 organic apple each day of the cleanse, between breakfast and lunch
*Day of cleanse (5th day) --- Fresh, organic fruit for breakfast (Watermelon, Figs, Kiwi, Papaya OR grapefruit.. Choose ONE, but eat as much as you want.
*Vegetable soup for lunch with beets, carrots, garlic, onion, turmeric, pinch of sea salt and oregano (liver and gallbladder supporting vegetables)
*3 PM -- 6-8 ounces of walnuts
*5PM & 7PM -- Epsom salt -- one and a half level tablespoons of Epsom salt in 8 ounces of warm, purified water.
*Between 9-10PM -- Olive Oil & Juice -- Drink ¾ cup (6 ounces) of organic cold pressed extra virgin olive oil. A small amount (2 tablespoons) of freshly squeezed orange, grapefruit, or lemon juice may be added to improve the taste (optional). Immediately after drinking the oil, go to bed and lie on your right side with your knees drawn up to your stomach for 30 minutes.
After 30 minutes, you can stretch out and go to sleep. If you experience cramping, walk around for ten minutes or so and then go back to bed. You may also feel nauseated during the night. This is due to the release of stored toxins from the gallbladder and liver. This is normal and a sign the Liver Gallbladder Cleanse is working.
Works like a blessing =)!! Best of luck to all"

[YEA] 02/22/2009: Robert Henry from Ten Mile, TN writes: "My wife and I do 3 liver and lymph detox's a year at the direction of our anti-aging doctor. It is a 10 day limited fast will lots of minerals and vitimins. I think it is the 3 days of only crucifers that does the detoxing. However, we always end this fast with Hulda Clark's liver flush using epsom salt, olive oil and lemon juice. After several years, we do not get stones, just a little gravel. I presume if we had kidney stones, they too would pass. Lots of apple juice is a player in cleaning up your liver and kidneys.
At church this morning, it was announced that an older lady friend had been taken to a Knoxville hospital last night and sent home with the prognosis of kidney stones. I gave her son in law Earth Clinic's web site, but am not optomestic that she will use the lemon juice and olive oil cure. It's too cheap and simple. I could expound for hours on how this site had helped us . Especially in addressing Demodex mites and sinus congestion. That story also repulses most folks. The solution must come from Big Pharma."
[YEA] 05/09/2009: Peakeszoo from Albany, Oregon replies: "I have suffered from gallstones and attacks for a couple of years. A friend of mine brought me the gall stone flush recipe 3 days before I was scheduled to have my gallbladder taken out. I figured it was worth a try. I cancelled my appt to have surgery and did the flush instead (epsom salts, apple juice, olive oil and grapefruit juice). The flush worked. I passed hundreds of green stones from lima bean size to small gravel/sand sized. I felt no pain, or nausea at all. The epsom salts (mag. sulfate) do cause diarrea and a cleanse of the system. There was no discomfort in this, just time spent in the bathroom. The cleanse has had no bad side effects at all with me...and I repeat it every 4-6 mos as needed. It does not taste good and swallowing the cocktails is the hardest part. But the flush does work and I recommend it to anyone with gallstone issues.
Now I am reading and understanding that a maint. level of magnesium should be taken daily as that could be the cause for my constant need to re-flush...that along with my diet.
Try the natural methods...it works! Doctors do not know how to make people well...that is not their job, they only treat symptoms to make people feel better. My doctors (other than my naturopath) were baffled that these natural flushes have worked. I don't think they believe me. They keep telling me eventually I will have to take my gallbladder out. My answer is I will do what I can to avoid that as God put my gallbladder in my body for a reason! Doctor's also don't tell you that when your gallbladder is removed, you have a much higher chance of getting intestinal cancer due to the bile dripping constantly into your intestines.
email me if you want the recipe...I will share it for free."

06/22/2010: Candy from Odessa, Tx, Usa replies: "I have been experiencing pain in my lower back and gradually travels to my abdomen followed by vomiting. This has been going on for 2 years and has become more frequent this year. This pain is so excruciating and almost always starts anywhere from 11pm and can last til about 7am. I have gone to the ER on several occassions and all those times I have been told that I have a UTI. Just recently I went to the ER and demanded to have something else done other than a urine sample and finally I got a CT scan and ultrasound done. To my surprise the doctor informed me that I had gallstones and had one stuck in the duct. I was told I was going to have surgery that very same day to remove my gallbladder and I was all for it! At this point I wanted anything done just to relieve me from the pain. To my disappointment I was given a shot for my pain and was told I had to make an appointment for the surgery since it was not severe. I just recently lost my job due to the days I've missed living with this aweful pain that keeps me up all night and leaves me just feeling so lethargic. I have no money for surgery and so my only comfort is taking Advil at night. I got to reading this website and am willing to try a natural cure. Please if there is anyone willing to help me out I would be most grateful!"

06/23/2010: Diane from Everett, Wa replies: "I have had the same pains that you talk about and it was a kidney infection. It went from my bladder to my kidneys. They gave me an iv with some strong antibiotics. I've also had my gallbladder out and my pains were definitely different than yours. Mine felt like a cement block was sitting on my chest, right n the middle. I also vomited because the pain was so bad and i couldnt lay down to sleep, only sitting up in a recliner helped. A sonogram showed the stones. Your gallbladder is on your right side sorta under your ribs. Make sure your local hospitals dont have a charity program for low income, or no insurance patients. Both of our hospitals do. Good Luck"

[YEA] 12/15/2008: Donna from Port Huron, MI, USA writes: "... To the person who might be breaking up gall stones in the liver and being in a lot of pain passing those stones, it is a good thing to pass those stones. I passed a lot of them at once, and immediately my energy level increased. Now I understand what is meant by a sluggish liver. But I passed all those stones, hundreds of them in one evening, by using a liver cleanse. There are many of them described on the internet. I found one that used lemon juice, olive oil, grapefruit juice and Epsom salt. I took this at night, woke up in the morning and passed all those stones painlessly, and lost about 3" on my waist overnight. I know that because I had to tighten my belt. The Epsom salt (food-grade) apparently relaxes the muscles enough to open the ducts to allow the stones to pass out easily. I was amazed at their size..."

12/10/2008: VK from Delhi, India writes: "My son was involved in a road accident about 7 years ago, was in coma for months and like a vegetable thereafter. After prologned physio, family efforts and God's will, he is today about 85 to 90% recovered. However, probably due to a PEG in his stomach (through which we use to feed him mashed food as he could not respond at that time), he seems to have developed gallstones. Four months ago he had severe gallstone pain (attack?) and later was diagnosed for pancreatitis also, hospitalised, and after stabilising, an ERCP performed on him. Now the doctors want to remove his gall bladder.
I read about the Liver cleanse and would like him to try it. What stops me is the Epsom salts - they are magnesium sulphate. Four tablespoon Epsom would be 40gm or nearabouts (at-least 10gm of magnesium) while our daily recommended magnesium is about 250-400 milligram. Can anybody tell me if it is safe to take internally such a large dose of magnesium sulphate over a couple of hours, and if anyone has had any side effects (hypermagnesium or some such thing)?
Thanks for the help.
VK"
10/29/2009: L Perry from Wichita Falls ,Texas, U.S. replies: "4tablespoon Epsom is safe. I'm 62 and one of 8 kids in my family. Any time one of us felt sick or moody my parents would give us at least 4 tablespoon of epsom salt in warm water and then a glass of clean water ( to clean our system out ) we never stayed home from school pretending we were sick. My oldies sister is 68 and my youngest brother is 50 years old and we're still alive, all 8 of us. I hope this help you. Mrs PerryP.S. Just make sure the stones aren't too big."
[YEA] 11/09/2011: Denny from Marble, Pa Usa replies: "I have done 11 Dr. Clark's liver/gallbladder cleanses over a period of 5 years. After the 7th one, not many stone evident. The rest were for maintance purposes. Only a few stones and cholestral shaff. I was not originally suffering attacks. I highly recommend this protocol."
