[YEA]  01/24/2010: Victoria from Saint Johns, Florida writes: "I suffered from toenail fungus for 15 years! It began when I moved to Virginia & needed to wear socks & closed shoes because my feet get cold very easily. Since moving to Florida 4 years ago, I thought that wearing flip flops and sandals would resolve my problem but it did not. I found out that fungus does not go away on its own. It's too hot here to wear closed shoes and it was embarrassing for me not to be able to hide my problem. I had to find a remedy where I can wear nail polish. I first started applying Tea Tree Oil twice a day for about a month. Not only did it not work, it messes up your toenail polish. Next I tried applying Vick's for about 3 months/2x's a day and although it did seem to kill the fungus, there were areas where my toe nails that did not reattach themselves to nail bed. Those areas also turned brittle and yellowish and would break off easily. I kept cutting out these parts & kept my nails as short as possible. I also found out that Vick's turns your toe nail polish dull. My mother told me that she cured my dad's problem using bleach so I decided to give that a try. Per my mother's instructions, in 1 cup, I mixed 3/4 water and 1/4 bleach. I kept this in a small, glass container with a screw top. I dipped a q-tip in it and applied day and night to my affected toes. It immediately killed the fungus and in a few weeks my toe nails reattached themselves to the nail bed. Plus, it did not mess up my nail polish. It's been 5 months now and my nails are healthy, pink and growing strong. I am still using this but only once a day just in case. I'd like to add that the bleach mix did not hurt the surrounding skin in any way. I hope this helps someone else."

[YEA]  10/10/2006: Eric from Houston writes: "Vics = nothing, but bleach toenail fungus if it could penetrate the nail (See below). I have fungus -- 3 toes on one foot, and two on another and I tried the vapor rub fairly diligently with no success for several months. I gave up and wasn't putting anything on it for a while then the big toe nail got bumped on a couch and came completely off, so I tried some bleach on all toes for several months. The big toe is about 80% grown in looking healthy, while the others nails don't look any better. I concluded that the bleach absolutely works, but doesn't penetrate the nails well. So I think the next step will be to file off as much of the other nails as I possibly can and see what that does"

BLEACH, CHLORINE-FREE

03/01/2009: Tara from Boston, MA writes: "I have nail fungus on 2 toes. Have been soaking them in 3% hydrogen peroxide, also slathering oregano oil on them every day or so. After several weeks it did not appear that my attempts have been working (no normal nail growing in yet). So tonight I decided to try another approach. I had bought chlorine-free bleach at the grocery store months ago and never used it. Tonight I took a q-tip and dunked it into the bleach, then rubbed it onto the 2 nails. The ingredients on the bottle of my bleach say hydrogen peroxide and citric acid (they call this "green" bleach). However, the bottle does not say what percentage of H202. I suspect it's stronger than 3% drugstore because my nails have turned white where I applied it. This never happened when I soaked my foot in 3% h202! I will give another update in a few weeks but wanted to tell everyone suffering from this terrible fungus. It looks very promising!"

BETTER BUT NOT CURED

[BETTER BUT NOT CURED]  07/06/2009: jenn4875 from Houston, Texas writes: "My husband has had toenail fungus for about 6yrs. I started looking up home remedies and heard about tea tree oil, bleach, vics, vinegar, and so on. We tried them individually with ok results. One night we decided to try a combination to see what happens. We put a drop of bleach followed by a drop of tree oil then vics. We covered the feet with socks and he slept with it on. He said it burned some, but not too bad. I have to say, we have gotten the best results by doing this. Every day the area we put it on has turned an orange color and is now soft and comes right off. I have experimented some to see if it's just the bleach and vics or tree oil and vics and so on, but nothing gives results like the combination of the 3. I am recently seeing sights using ACV and I think I'm going to try that too. It seems people are having very good results with that as well. I'll post again in a couple weeks with my results. We have been using this treatment for about a month so far. Good luck with whatever treatment you use."

[YEA]  05/10/2007: Eddie from Glasgow, UK writes: "I read about the Canesten cream cure on this site a few weeks ago, mainly because I had a tube in my house, I use it for mild athletes foot, thats what its for. I filed my toenail and rubbed in the cream, and also worked it in down the sides of the nail. After two weeks I have some nice new clear nail growth, about two thirds of the nail is clear, and I'm hoping the rest will grow out. Dont know if it will work for everyone but it seems (at the moment) to work for me. As of today I'm also attacking the fungus with Tea Tree oil, and I like all the positive comments about Oregano Oil.... so I'll probably try that to....anything to get rid of this really...really anoying fungus...."

[YEA]  02/01/2007: Chelle from Denpasar, Indonesia writes: "Hello all, You must try this, i have had nail fungus on three finger nails for four years, tried everything possible from doctors prescription tablets and creams to home remedy oils, vinegar etc. Three weeks ago i met a woman who had nail fungus on her big toe a while back, she cured it in six months, i told her about my finger nails and she said i should use Canestan cream as that is what she had used on her toe. Well i had tried everything else so i thought why not. To my amazement and joy, my fungus has gone in just about a month of using the cream, in the next month i am expecting to have my nails back the way they used to be. You have got to try this, i could cry with joy at seeing after only a couple of days how the cream started to work. I clipped my nails right down then applied the cream, i applied the cream three times a day, i did not use band aid or anything to cover them up. It was just a small tube of cream and there is plenty left so i am going to us it till i finished the tube just to be absolutely certain its all gone and to help my nails start to grow back without anymore infections. The cream is not that expensive and you can buy it over the counter. You must try it. I came by your site a couple of months ago looking for a cure, i did try a few of the things but without any luck. Not long after that is when i met the woman. I just wanted to pass this on as i know how awful it can be and how down it can make us feel. Well good luck to you all, i hope it works for you."

CASTOR OIL

YEA

[YEA]  08/02/2009: Patricia from Grand Cayman, Cayman Islands writes: "I noticed a question about using caster oil with nail fungus. I have a story you might find interesting. I had read about its anti-fungal action, and when I began to notice some nail damage, I began applying caster oil twice a day. As I was about to travel and I worried about getting more damage, I went to my podiatrist. He looked at my nail and said that he was sure it was a fungal infection but that he would take a sample for testing. When I returned a month later, he checked back on the test, and was shocked to note that there was no fungus there at all. He wanted to know if I were sure that I had damaged my nail --in other words, he began to look for another reason for the nail problem. There was no other problem and no fungus! caster oil works for nail fungus prevention and most likely treatment."

[YEA]  04/17/2008: Ann from Algonquin, IL writes: "I have successfully used castor oil to treat toenail fungus. My baby toenail was completely taken over by fungus. It had a black line running through it as well (another sign of fungus). I did this treatment twice per day until the nail grew out: First, I put two drops of vinegar on the nail. Then I placed a bit of cotton soaked in castor oil directly on the nail and kept it in place with a bandage. The nail is completely healthy. It's been almost two years since the treatment."

[YEA]  12/11/2006: Alice from Sierra Vista, AZ writes: "I was hoping Vince, or someone would explain the concentration of cayenne/salt/ and water. Not knowing, I made a paste where the cayenne and salt were approximately equal, and added enough water to make a paste. I pressed that beneath the nail as best as possible and rubbed it on the top. I have been using Store Brand mouthwash which is identical to Listerine, for the past 3-4 weeks. This has made a huge and fast improvement in my toenails, almost immediately. It was amazing! But I wanted to know more about the cayenne, because I have learned a remedy can be way way way better than I might have imagined! Plus I did not want to give the fungus any opportunity to become resistant to one treatment or the other."

Vince replies: "All I do is mix a little cayenne with salt in water. Maybe 1/8tsp of each in about 3oz, and just soak the nail or skin for athlete's foot. For nail fungus I try to clean out any debris and reapply it, to make sure it gets in. I only had to treat mine once. I have a thumbnail that looks like it is separating in one spot. Maybe I caused it by cleaning my nails with a penknife a few times, but I treated it anyway. VF"

I have been taking Extra Virgin coconut oil topically and orally for about 4 or 5 months now. My two big toenails have had fungus for over 20 years. After cutting them back and applying the oil and taking it orally, my toenails are finally turning clear again!! There is a tiny bit of roughness still on the tip but i'm sure after regrowth it will be gone. :)"

[YEA]  12/31/2007: Michael from Elizabeth, NJ writes: "For the last 4 tears or so I have had a fungus on both big toes. The nail becomes thick and discolored with rough edges. Not an attractive sight. I have been using coconut oil now for about 9 months and can honestly say it has made a difference in the appearance of my toenails. One of the many properties of CO is antifungal. I can"t say enough about this tropical oil. I eat at least 3 Tbls a day I have more energy, have lost weight, no change in my cholesterol and love its taste. Try it and you will never go back to the other veggie oils."

[YEA]  04/12/2009: KT from Irvine, California, USA replies: "Coconut Oil is a miracle when it comes to SPEEDY cures. Keep this organic oil in your pantry at all times. It not only gets me rid of fungus within days (less than a week) but also got me rid of harsh toenail horizontal ridges and I could see the difference the very nexttt dayyy, a 60% visible reduction in those ridges, all gone within a week! I was totally bowled over. Applying coconut oil to my toenails was a total guesswork since I read that it's an antibacterial & antifungal agent when it comes to colon-cleansing. So I thought why not try it on toenails. Make this your # 1 choice for nail fungus, you'd be pleasantly surprised."

[YEA]  08/17/2006: Annabelle from Victoria, Australia writes: "I had toenail fungus for 5yrs. started using virgin coconut oil applied topically with amazing results. Used loceryl lacquer for 3yrs did not get rid of it. Used some oxygenated melaluca cream which helped & may have cured it but smelled so bad it really wasn't practical. I read about coconut oil on internet & gave it a go, i didn't think it would seriously work. I massaged it into top of nail & all around it & made sure it was under toenail which was easy as it is liquid (hardens in cold weather but melts on contact with skin). Now 1 big toenail totally cured, other toenail is almost gone but it was much worse and was first to be infected. Absolutely amazing and i don't even apply it everyday!!! Doesn't smell. I rub it into all my other toenails (hoping this will prevent them from getting it in them). I bought a brand from my local health food shop and made sure it was 100% virgin and this one was cold pressed-don't know if that means anything but i'm sure other brands would work, I am just thrilled with results and grateful that i gave it a go"

[YEA]  Annabelle writes: "I just wrote some feedback and I just wanted to add after reading others that i just wanted to share this information in the hope that it may help others, my toenails were all white underneath and not attached to nail bed anymore I could cut them down to almost nothing and people would always say, 'What's happened to your nails??!! - so embarrassing, especially as i used to have really nice toenails and always wear strappy shoes or thongs. My results have been amazing and especially considering i did not apply it every day it still worked. I was not prepared to risk taking drugs that could damage my liver even though my doctor was quite willing to give me a prescription for it, she then told me to use loceryl ($100 a bottle in australia) and it didn't work. I wanted a natural remedy if possible so used coconut oil, i had nothing to lose, it wasn't expensive and was readily available at the health food shop. I have also read to not wear nail polish which i used to wear religiously, obviously a big no no. Also i believe i caught it off a girlfriend as i found out after i got it she had had it for years but i never noticed- she wore polish too- but i used to borrow socks and shoes and stuff - don't borrow anyone's socks or shoes and don't let them wear yours either not worth it!"

[BETTER BUT NOT CURED]  06/12/2009: rcw8888 from Santa Monica, CA writes: "having some success, for toenail fungus, soaking an hour in cornmeal and warm water. Exact directions are:

line bottom of flat plastic pan with cornmeal one inch and add 1 inch warm water for one half hour, then add enuf warm water to cover your toenails and put your feet in for one hour. Do this once a week. Results in about a year.

Faster, comprehensive solutions will involve eating totally alkaline. Am also trying MMS topically plus DMSO with questionable results. Tried MMS internally 15 drops, 3x per day for 2 weeks as prescribed and have overal improvement in health but uncertain it affected toenails just yet.

CUT THE NAIL DOWN

Ratings:

YEA

[YEA]  04/30/2007: J. Riley from Honolulu, Hawaii writes: "I had nail fungus on most of my nails-over half of them. I had a problem years ago with only the thumb nail. This time it was really bad-I'd had artificial nails and I neglected them. When they were removed, my nails were absolutely gone-paper thin with fungus. After removal this continued to spread lower and lower. Over half of my nails had extensive fungus--apparent by the unattached white colored nails. Some were almost unattached all the way down to the "moon". From my other incident years ago I learned there is NO cure other than to cut away COMPLETELY ANY and ALL nail that isn't attached (debriding). I messed around with a thumbnail for over 2 years. Attended a doctor who game me Rx and told me to keep my nail dry-nearly impossible. Finally I got fed up and cut down the thumbnail all the way as far as I could. Knowing this, this time I cut back my nails completly all the way down as far as possible. This involved over half of most of them. Kind of hard on the eyes, but why screw around with all these liver damaging drugs, and soaking, and failures. Amazing! I marked the calendar: by the time 4 weeks had passed all of my nails had reached the point of where the natural quick is--except the 2 thumbnails-they're alot slower! It's been 6 weeks since I trimmed them all the way back. I did have to invest in some special clippers-"cuticle trimmers". Otherwise it would have been impossible to get rid of all the "white"with regular nail clippers. The clippers are about $14.00. Much better than Dr. bills, Rx's soaks, salves; Also much better than fooling around for weeks, months, and years. Generally for me, the smaller the nail, the faster the recovery. I would like to thank the manicurist on this site for her imput. She has been a manicurist for 19 years and her advice includes using clear iodine on your nails. This, she says makes the nails grow fast. I have a slow thyroid so the iodine thing is very intesting to me. The best part aobut ths whole thing is: Not only did my nails fill back in quickly, but now they are the strongest I've ever seen them! Almost every night I put the clear ("blanco") iodine on them. I'm not a doctor, but I would NEVER take any prescription drug that would damage the liver. That to me is unconsiousable. I am not a doctor and cannot advise others. All I wish to do is share how quickly this worked for me and how strong my nails are now! I'm very grateful!"
