First Name: Jessica
Age: 25
Male or Female: female
City: Akron
State/Province: Ohio
Country: United States
How long have you lived there: 23 years
Where were you born: Akron, OH
Is this the first time you have taken our questionnaire: yea
If not, why are you returning:
Are you still working: No
What is Your Line of Work: was a student and a server at a restaurant
How has Fibro affected your ability to work: I can't concentrate, have pain 90% of the time while fighting the urge to want to go to sleep. If I have a flair up during a test or at work its really hard to make it through. I've had problems especially taking tests, recalling things is especially hard due to lack of sleep/concentration
How has Fibro affected your life: Morning are the worst part of my day, getting out of bed is the hardest thing to do. I have had to scale back my activities a lot when I have a flair up. I find it harder to work and to make money and therefore harder to treat my disease since I have no healthcare or job.
What were your first symptoms: blurry vision and headaches when I was in 5th grade, intense knee pains, trouble sleeping, excessive urination during this time as well.
Your age at onset of symptoms: 11 or 12
How fast was your rate of decline: During college it got a lot worse, when my activity level went down and I started drinking alcohol. Also in college my diet changed a lot.

Estimate number of doctors you have seen for Fibro related symptoms: 7
Do your doctors tend to focus on all your Fibro symptoms: No, I have been shuffled through by many Dr.'s even after telling my family history of fibro (my mom and grandmother both have it) they presrcibe my anti-acids, anti-depressants, muscle relaxers, for other problems, took me a long time to get the fibro diagnosis. I actually self diagnosed myself years ago and after doing a lot of research realized I had been suffering with fibro for almost 15 years without realizing!!!
Do your doctors treat your symptoms individually or collectively: individually
Describe your experience with doctors: All western dr's in my experience want to deny fibro and don't offer any sound advice. I felt like a number not a person, they took my money without helping me, only looking at lab results and not focusing on my symptoms. I have undergone unnecessary x-rays, ultrasounds, blood tests, etc.....Only to read my medical records and find that they didnt believe I was even sick, that I was perfectly healthy looking.
What remedies or medications have you tried: aleve, tumeric, coconut oil, daily multi vitamins, daily massage, yoga, heat pads, soak in tub or hot shower, epsom salt

Have you tried avoiding fluoride in your diet: Yes
If so, which sources of fluoride: Water
Have you made dietary changes to avoid any other neutrotoxins: MSG Caffeine
Have you tried any thyroid specific treatments: selenium
Your theories or comments: I believe that there are a lot of environmental factors that directly effect the development of certain diseases such as fibro. I believe that the pharmaceutical industry and the food industry and trying to keep people sick by putting fluoride in water, high fructose corn syrup in EVERYTHING and prescribing drugs that do more harm than good.
Are we missing any important questions: You should ask more questions about the environment where people lived before the onset of symptoms and early in developmental stages of life. Also family history questions.

First Name: Annika
Age: 31
Male or Female: female
City: Gothenburg
State/Province: Sweden
Country: Sweden
How long have you lived there: 31 years
Where were you born: Gothenburg,Sweden
Is this the first time you have taken our questionnaire: yes
If not, why are you returning:
Are you still working: no
What is Your Line of Work: was working on the line with packing pharmaceuticals
How has Fibro affected your ability to work: had to quit, could no longer keep up the speed, had difficulties moving about and problems lifting even quite light things. The pain was sometimes so bad I had to run in to the bathroom and cry.
How has Fibro affected your life: everything has changed, my life feels over, before I have been trekking in Nepal, backpacking alone trough latinamerica etc, now I can barely walk in to town. I'm so tired and suffer from horrible migraine attacks several times a week. The FM pain is unbearable without strong painkillers and I feel my whole personalaty is different. I used to be a happy and kind person, now I'm just bitter and sad. I no longer see my friends because of this, I just want to cry.
What were your first symptoms: a weird, moving feeling in the body. It's difficult to explain but it felt like one could imagine a wind moving around in the body. when resting it felt like the inside of the body was not resting. I also had sleeping difficulties.
Your age at onset of symptoms: 30
How fast was your rate of decline: first came the pain and tiredness and sleeping problems, felt like a very bad flu, after about 6 moths came the loss of strenght, especially in my arms. Very stiff body. During the last 6 months it has just become worse and I can now no longer tolerate the pain without strong (codeine) painkillers. The last 2 months I have also felt very foggy in the head, dizzy, and very very weak.
What are your current symptoms: See above
Number of years since you developed symptoms of fibromyalgia: 1
Do your symptoms include brain fog: yes
Number of years since you developed the brain fog: about 2-3 MONTHS ago
Describe the extent of your brain fog: Feel slow and weak, difficult to concentrate. Dizzy, especially when walking.
Estimate number of doctors you have seen for Fibro related symptoms: 4
Do your doctors tend to focus on all your Fibro symptoms: no!
Do your doctors treat your symptoms individually or collectively: Here in Swden they prefer to not treat you at all, except maybe with some antidepressants. I had to fight to get painkillers that work.
Describe your experience with doctors: See above. I have developed a hatred for swedish doctors after how I have been treated. I can't describe how horrible it have been, the first 6 moths there were no one that believed me, they just said i was tired or depressed. They didn't listen whenI told about the pains, and one dr said openly that she didn't believe that FM existed. Finally after 7 months I came to the company dr who actually listened and took me seriously. She was the first one that actually looked at my body and checked the pressure points. She said it was FM and I then came to a special FM clinic. The dr there is not very understanding though, the general idea in this country is that FM developes because there is connection in the brain that has gone wrong and that one just has to learn to live with the pain.
What remedies or medications have you tried: diflofenac, arcoxia (strong anti-inflammatory)paraflex (muscle relaxant) cymbalta, lyrica, tramadol, citodon(paracetamol 500mg+ 30mg codeine)
What makes you feel better: the strong codeine painkillers are the only thing that have made any difference. Also I think I probably need the anti depressant to be able to stand this miserable life...
What makes you feel worse: Stress. physical work, even light gardening that I really enjoy can make me unable to use my arms the next day.
Have you tried avoiding fluoride in your diet: no
If so, which sources of fluoride:
Have you made dietary changes to avoid any other neutrotoxins: no (but I will now after having found this website!)
Have you tried any thyroid specific treatments: no
Your theories or comments: I'm absolutely sure that my FM started as a result of the very heavy stress I felt at my work, the noise and the stress of having to work on a line and keeping up the speed started this whole thing for me.
Are we missing any important questions: About stress! I'm absolutely sure that this can be a trigger. That it "eats" up important minerals or just disrupts the whole system in the body.

How has Fibro affected your ability to work: I can no longer do physical work of any kind without great discomfort. Vacuuming the house will cost me 2 or 3 days in recovery. Even running general errands around town (stopping at a couple stores for brief shopping stints) will cause enough pain that I will not go for another two weeks.
How has Fibro affected your life: I no longer enjoy life at all - no social life per se, I've been unemployed for 11 months and have been battling increasing physical pain. Everything is planned based on the amount of pain I am currently dealing with. Mental exhaustion and sleep problems have kept me in a depressed state for quite some time. It's difficult to think and hold clarity of mind.

Have you tried any thyroid specific treatments: no, am just learning about how to deal with this
Your theories or comments: I have also heard about MMS and the borax/sea salt approach. I will try one or both of those to see how they do. I thought the amount of symptoms I was feeling in the past couple of years was brought on by the massive stress and grief I was experiencing from my husband's illness and death and the loss of my job at the same time. Family doctor and counselor both told me that grief can manifest itself physically. Now that my grief is diminishing, you'd think my pain would as well, but it has only gotten extremely worse.

What is Your Line of Work: retail, banking
How has Fibro affected your ability to work: I cannot physically be consistant enough to keep up with work. Have worked on and off for years now due to this. When I would feel like I couldn't keep up I would leave work and become a homemaker (for fear of being fired if I stayed and continued to decline). It seems I could only handle one or the other. Was very difficult to take care of a household and work full time. Last year I went back to work againw/a bank and decided to ride it out while working w/my doctors. I Was fired 7 months in due to my innability to focus, memory loss, confusion. I made too many mistakes, even though I was present everyday and never tardy. I just couldn't mentally cut it. The brain fog is the one thing I can't push through. I just can't think my way out of a paper bag sometimes.
How has Fibro affected your life: It has been extrememly tramatic to go from being a highly intelligent, very energetic person to and extremely tired, sore, foggy headed person. Also have developed a rapid heart rate and hypoglocemia, as well as scoliosis and tmj, which just compounds issues of brain fog, fatigue, and pain. Have family history of autoimmune disease. I tested positive, however no actual autoimune disease has been diagnosed. Just the Fibro and others listed above

How fast was your rate of decline: fairly slow progression unitl about the age of 25, then seemed to take on a rapid decline

Estimate number of doctors you have seen for Fibro related symptoms: 3-4
Do your doctors tend to focus on all your Fibro symptoms: No
Do your doctors treat your symptoms individually or collectively: Individually
Describe your experience with doctors: Not very informative, treatment is very minimal and not very helpfull. I have learned more on my own through online research.
What remedies or medications have you tried: lexapro, flexeril, metoprolol, lyrica (only took 3 pills and was taken off them due to a possible adverse reaction)
What makes you feel better: these medications used to help some, but has seemed to stopped working as good. Basically listening to my body and pacing myself is the best I can do.
What makes you feel worse: stress, weather changes ie: rain, cold, strenous physical activities
Have you tried avoiding fluoride in your diet: no
If so, which sources of fluoride: n/a
Have you made dietary changes to avoid any other neutrotoxins: no
Have you tried any thyroid specific treatments: no
Your theories or comments: I believe much of this to be hereditary. Yet seemed to be triggered near the time of my first (and only) pregnancy. But, also near a very traumatic time in my life. The death of my spouse.
