Remedies Needed
06/20/2012: Tim from Phalaborwa, Limpopo, South Africa: "Greetings from South Africa. My partner has just been diagnosed with emphysema. She is taking it very well but it is a great shock to me. Suddenly my outlook has changed - there is so much we wanted to do together. She is 57 and has been smoking for some time and obviously this has to change.
I dont know where to start helping to live with this. I have read some of the remedies and am considering trying them. Of course there is the physicological aspect.
Appreciate any advice.
Regards, Tim"
Replies06/20/2012: Gavin from Manganui, Northland, New Zealand replies: "If you just use the Cayenne pepper with Garlic, and either cut out or cut down the smoking, she will be ok. The Garlic alone helps but with the Cayenne, the breathlesness goes very fast. Palalability is the main issue with Cayenne, if its mixed with butter it goes down on a sandwich, without much of a problem. The Garlic floats the dead tissue out of the lungs, but be prepared to cough up some nasty looking mucous, in the first week. Try and get half a teaspoon down a day and then when feeling better drop it to about a third. The garlic can be crushed and left for ten minutes, before ingesting. I smoke and used it with success after I started getting breathless."

11/06/2011: Lin from Tecumseh, Mi replies: "I made the mullein recipe and my sister used it... I used the tops that were still green because I couldn't find any info on what they should look like... She said it helped her as she didn't need to use her inhaler as much... Now I read they should be the seed pods that have dried... If anyone would like a recipe for a mullein infusion to drink that will help your lungs just send me an email.... I have 1 gentleman that's going to try it... My email LinBro52(at)gmail.com"
11/07/2011: Pmc from Clarkston, Washington, Us replies: "I've used mullein extensively and quite successfully for upper respiratory conditions such as colds and asthma, ear infections, and joint pain (it has anti-inflammatory properties as well as antibiotic and antihistamine properties). Either take 40 drops of tincture in a glass of water 2x/day or simmer a handful of leaves in a quart of water for 15 minutes, allow to cool with leaves in the water, then STRAIN THROUGH CHEESECLOTH (else the little fuzzy stuff irritate your cough center), and drink the entire thing once a day. Pick leaves in the fall, just before frost. Look for plants in areas away from main roads. Do not use the flowers. Dry on a towel; store in a dark cupboard. I have found that the leaves are more potent than the tincture. Also, do not pick leaves from mullein with deformed stalks. Deformed stalks indicates the mullein has been exposed to contaminants."
12/25/2011: Ruby from Saint John, New Brunswick, Canada replies: "This message is for Paul Blake, I have end of life emphysema with the barrel chest even though I am not on oxygen yet. I had a right upper lobe removed due to lung cancer in 2009. What do you suggest I should take to ease my emphysema, I also might have lung cancer again as I had started smoking, stupid, stupid. Long story due to 6mg of clonazepam I was put on by my doctor which made me crazy!!!!"
04/10/2012: Nancy from Soldotna, Alaska replies: "I know this is a long time after you made your post about any one that may like to try you recipe to help with the emphysema, I would like to try this but am unable to find any of the Mullein in the State of Alaska, if you have any left or are still trying to help then maybe I could try some of this, I have emphysema and my lungs have all so the lungs were damaged by polio many years ago. 07/05/2012: Terrib from Austin, Texas replies: "Hello. I don't mean to be rude or negative but do you all know that COPD/Emphysema is not curable? You can take the proper medicines to help open your bronchial tubes. You must be careful what you inhale into your lungs, environmental triggers, such as dust, odors (perfumes, etc) any type smoke, household cleaners, bleach. etc. I am sure that you know these thing but I am concerned that you are going to do more harm than good inhaling hydrogen peroxide. As for Jack's remedy, I don't hold much hope for it either. The herb Mullein is supposed to help respiratory illnesses such as loosening the congestion and help you clear the lungs. It is not a cureall. Please be very careful! For those that will insist on using Mullein let me mention that Mullein is also a great indicator of the soils contamination level so only harvest from the straight stalks, crooked stalks indicate a high level of chemical contamination of the soil.
Be safe, Be well.
