WORKED TEMPORARILY

[YEA]  04/11/2010: Pondera from Juneau, Ak writes: "3 day Apple Fast cured Dyshidrotic Eczema

I developed dyshidrotic eczema on the palm of my right hand and in between my fingers in Sept/ 09. At first I developed a rash that weeped directly where I had a ring on my finger.. I thought maybe the nickel in the ring triggered it. Hydrocortizone cream did not cure it, although it provided immediate relief from the itching. The rash than spread to in between my fingers and on the palm of my hand. It was awfully painful.

I tried massage therapy for stress and repressed emotions and found that it started to heal directly after that. I also had three or four sessions of acupuncture and realized it was healing after that too. But it wasn't gone completely.

So I began a THREE DAY Apple Fast for persistant Acne problems. Hoping to clear up my face and in the process it COMPLETELY healed my eczema. You see it all starts on the inside, in the organs, in this case, the large intestine or colon.

Here's what you do:
For three days eat nothing but peeled Red Delicious apples or Golden apples. They must be peeled. And you can eat as much as you want all day long. (I ate about 6-10 a day)And drink a ton of water ! at least 60 oz. a day.

At the end of each day, you have to do an enema to remove all the apple you ate that day. The Pectin in the apple absorbs the heavy metals and toxins from inside the colon and then each day it needs to get passed or the results won't be as good.

You can buy a Fleet Enema from most drugstores, and just follow the directions. However, you have to use it 3 times. You do the first flush lying on your right side, then on the left, and then again in the knee-to-chest bowing position. For a total of three flushes. Remain in the positions while you're holding it in. (Since a Fleet enema only has solution in it for one flush, on the 2nd and 3rd flush you just have to refill it with warm tap water) After squeezing all the fluid in, you hold it inside you (for 2-5min) until the urge to expel it is very strong...then get on the toilet and let it go.

It is very important to remove the apples each day, but only do the enema flush once in a 24 hour period. On the first day you may not see a lot come out, but the 2nd and 3rd days you will. If you have really severe cramps you can do it earlier in the day.

On the third and last day, you may have two tablespoons of olive oil and a couple glasses of Welch's grape juice in the evening to prepare your digestive system to be eating again the next day. You will want to start out with easy food, like soup and crackers, don't run to McDonald's or something. And do an enema on the fourth day as well, just to make sure you got everything.

This apple-fast is done primarily to treat acne, and the results should last for months. My skin is cleared and softer than ever! And my eczema is gone for good too! You will notice things changing by the 2nd day. Sometimes your acne can get worse for a bit, but that just means your body is detoxying. Stay with it. And NO CHEATING whatsoever. You may have a few cups of green tea throughout the day.

Be easy on yourself. Don't exercise a bunch, or stay up late, or what's really great is if you can get work off. Take a hot shower if you get a headache (normal) and just be good to your self. When you're hungry, distract yourself, go for a nice walk, watch a movie, play music. LOTS OF WATER AND LOTS OF APPLES and say goodbye to eczema!

There is a body-mind connection with all things. The Colon is the organ that allows us to literally "let go of crap" so sometimes when we are emotionally plugged up we experience problems with our colon, that end up showing up on our skin. It is our body's way of talking to us. Let me know if you have any questions.. and good luck...you can do it! God Bless"

04/14/2010: Pondera from Juneau, Ak, Usa replies: "HI i wrote in about the 3 day APPLE Fast curing dyshidrotic eczema. Although my acne is completely gone. After 4 days it seems like my eczema is flaring up just the tiniest bit with introducing regular food to my diet. Just thought I'd let you know. I still recommend it for cleansing of heavy metals and toxins, however. thanks"
[NAY]  05/26/2010: Tanya from Orlando, Florida replies: "I've tried the 3 day apple fast and I too have dyshidrotic eczema. It is on both hands primarily on the palms. I also have acne, had it since I was 15 and now I am 33. The fast seem to keep the inflammation down but not cure it. Neither did it cure my acne. Once I start back on food (I am on the 3rd night) tomorrow I am pretty sure the inflammation will start up. Thanks for the post but I guess it's not for everyone."
05/28/2010: Wynesha from Moreno Valley, Ca replies: "I have acne too and I've used ACV and it works. First was your face as normal with whatever acne medicine you use. I use the green tea St. Ives wash. Then dry your face and apply a small amout of ACV to the infected area. Let it sit for awhile, hold a towl or something to it and watch the pimple go down fast. Also watch the area clear up."
06/11/2010: Tanya from Orlando, Florida replies: "I'm just giving an update on my eczema. I believe it just takes some time for the 3 day apple fast to work. Everyone is looking for that quick fix but healing is a slow process. The 3 day apple fast is a good start to clearing your eczema, just remember to drink lots of water and you will see results. My eczema is almost cleared totally up but the acne still remains. Believe me it's worth a try."
06/20/2010: Jeannie from Sacramento, Ca replies: "Regarding eczema problem, My now 10 year old suffered with a bad case of eczema, tried all the Dr fixes, none worked, one day after I bathed and dried him, I just put some petrolium jelly on his raw skin...it was almost gone next day... worked for him, he still gets a little eczema in the winter, we still use the petrolium jelly..hope it may help others..."
[YEA]  10/11/2010: Tricia from Riverside, Ca replies: "I tried the 3 day apple detox, I had severe eczema on my back, doctors would prescribe hydrocortisone that would give temporary relief from itching but would never remove the ugly rash, I started the apple detox and finished in 3days the rash from my back has gone completely and no long itches. My skin is so smooth on my back and face."
[YEA]  12/22/2010: Mary from Gloucester, Ma replies: "My son has had severe eczema due to what I believe to be vaccine poisoning. I believe this caused damage to his immune system. I have read a lot about eczema because his is so bad and nothing really works that well. Anyway I came across an article written by a man who had a similar condition and he said people don't realize that Fluoride can exacerbate eczema. He said he had great success with his condition by filtering Fluoride out of his water. Well I thought it was worth a try and I purchased a $70.00 filter system specifically made to filter out fluoride. Well what do you know, my son's eczema improved by about 80-90% no lie. We were astonished. Try talking to his pediatrician, who looks at me like I'm Cuckoo. The other thing we use is coconut oil religiously on the skin after showering and Myrrh and Goldenseal salve."
02/03/2011: Kat from Elizabethtown, Nc replies: "My daughter had an extreme case of eczema. We used to live in the city where we were of course provided with city water. They put flouride in the water... We now live in the country and have well water (no flouride added!!! ). My daughter's eczema has totally gone away. Flouride is BAD for you... It is a poison!!! When a truck hauls flouride, they have to put a hazardous placard on the trailer. That should tell us all something!!!"
03/11/2011: Toni from Kzn, South Africa replies: "Hi All,
Just a quick question, did anyones eczema get quite a lot worse & really itchy on the fourth & fifth day? Cause I tried this diet & felt good, but now on the fourth & fifth day I'm extremely red & itchy. Please help. Thanks Toni."
04/18/2011: Rj from Overland Park, Kansas replies: "As a physician I would suggest against the 3 day apple fast. It is not necessarily all too harmful to your body, but is mostly seen used to detoxify for drug tests. Its important for your body to stay as close to Homeostasis (its full potential) as possible and eating apples for three days is not a good way to accomplish this. You should try to keep to a well balanced diet as often as possible.

What I suggest for your eczema is going to a dermatologist or a doctor before trying any home remedy found on the internet. If at first you don't succeed try, try again. I have had eczema since before I can remember and just recently decided on a steroid cream as a desperate alternative. Works great. I would recommend limiting the use of steroid creams as much as possible due to thining of the skin, and only use them for large outbreaks. I use a 0.2% steroid cream on large outbreaks and Eucerin cream (the thick stuff in the tub) as often as needed. If you haven't tried the thick Eucerin lotion... Go try it. It will do wonders compared to other over the counter lotions. I know its an annoying skin condition, but bug your dermatologist as often as needed. There seems to be a solution to everyones skin conditions. If only to have fewer breakouts. Just keep trying and don't get frustrated during those late night itch fests.

Oh and for those late night itch fests... I have found it best not to lay in bed scratching till you fall asleep, but when you realize that the itch isn't going away.... Go to the kitchen and drink a large glass of water and have a small snack and think about anything except your itchy skin. Works for me at least and I hope this helps some of you. Adios."

05/13/2011: Tafadzwa from Harare, Mashonaland Zimbabwe replies: "To be honest only God himself can cure eczema and every other disease. All you have to do is to ask Him for your healing and have faith and I will go."
[YEA]  05/23/2011: Jack from Tokyo replies: "RJ, I think everyone using this board has been to their doctor and tried all the creams.

Tafadzwa from Harare, I tried praying to god but nothing happened.

I have been getting dyshidrotic eczema seasonally for 3 years now. I have no idea why it started originally, but I know why it started this year. I eat a strict Paleo diet and in training for a marathon I decided to carb load. I went out and ate Pizza, donuts, and drank high carb drinks for 1 day previous to the marathon. The morning after the marathon my hands were covered in vesicles. Not just one finger like previous years but about 5 fingers. In the 3 months following I've gone back to a semi-strict Paleo diet but the dyshidrotic eczema is not going away. I blame this on the occasional beer, soy sauce, and addatives I get from some dubious packaged foods.

I decided to sort this out and went on very strict Paleo for a week eating mostly sweet potatoes, boiled eggs, apples, and a few macadamias and am now on day 2 of my apple fast.

I see a noticeable difference in the skin on my fingers already, day 2 is my first day with no new vesicle developments and I see the skin in healing slowly.

Being Paleo I eat a lot of meat and fish so I am suspicious that I have built up metals in my body. By doing this apple fast and seeing results very quickly (over the course of a week or so), I can put down a benchmark and start to introduce foods slowly and find out what is really causing this.

Thank you for posting this remedy, I know now if things go wrong I have a definate cure to go back to.

It has also helped me to squash any suspicions that this ailment could be non-food related. Now I know it's my body disagreeing to something I am eating and trying to push it out via the vesicles.

Here's my 3 day fast in detail: http://kiedrea.blogspot.com/2011/05/three-day-apple-detox.html"

[BETTER BUT NOT CURED]  05/25/2011: Jack from Tokyo replies: "Day 3 of the apple detox and my fingers have no new developments. Lots of eczema still there but it's healing. Going to start back with spinach and scrambled eggs tomorrow morning."
[YEA]  06/09/2011: Dpayne from Marshall, Texas/usa replies: "I have seen that a lot of people have noticed the eczema coming back after getting back to a "normal" diet. There has been a lot of research done that links eczema to celiac disease or the intolerance of gluten found in wheat and other grains. After you have detoxed and your body is clean and clear I encourage you to take a good look at your diet. If it flares back up as it did for others.

I have a daughter who was diagnosed with celiac at the age of 4 who is now 11 and since it is genetic we have all noticed things in our bodies that have become intollerant to the wheat glutens. Makes you wonder what they are doing to our food, but that is another topic!

My oldest daughter has in the month developed extream eczema on her hands, they hurt so bad that it is keeping her from really enjoying being a 12yr old. I am going to try the 3 day apple fast for my whole family and then keep everyone on a strict gluten free diet. I know it will help everyone."

[WORKED TEMPORARILY]  06/13/2011: Jack from Tokyo replies: "I agree with Dpayne about gluten intolerance. I eat a paleo diet that excludes all grains, legumes, and sugar. All my food is cooked at home so that I can cook everything from single ingredients. I believe that my gut was able to process the apples without inflammation, which is why outbreaks stopped during the fast and I had the breasthing space to heal up. I am really on a mission to find the cause of this eczema!

So, after the 3 day apple detox my hands and feet became completely clear. It was so great having them back again. I started back on my paleo diet and very gradually the vesicles began appearing again. It's now 20 days on strict Paleo since the end of my apple detox and my hands are back to full outbreak status.

I have been tracking all foods that I have eaten so I know the culprit is in this list. In Japan you can only test for 13 allergies per blood sample for some reason, so to kick off with allergy testing for these foods:

tomato
white potato
lamb
chicken
beef
pork
carrot
sweet potato
garlic
onion
coconut
tuna
salmon

I made sure I got a couple of nightshades in there, all the meats, the main fish I eat, and I need garlic to flavour food. Wish me luck :-)"

06/14/2011: Debbie from Melbourne, Australia replies: "Jack, google GAPS diet. It's a great book with a special diet that slowly frees the body from allergies, and other problems. In the book (you can find info online) the author Natasha McBride explains how you can test for food allergies (while you are on a strict diet of broths) by putting each food separately on your wrist at night and rubbing it in. For solid foods you would need to mash it. Anyway you check your wrist the next morning and if a red mark is on your wrist you are allergic to those foods.

If you have eczema, she says that most probably you have what is called a "leaky gut" and you that is why the toxins are being released out through the skin. If you heal the gut you can heal your eczema. Simply cutting the allergic foods out of your diet does not cure what really ails you and that is the leaky gut.

She has some great youtube videos as well. Myself and my son are on the diet off and on (will be back on it next week)."

06/21/2011: Jack from Tokyo replies: "Thanks Debbie! I'm just looking at the website now: http://www.gapsdiet.com/ . This could help me in my quest to my heal leaky gut and find out what foods cause the dyshidrotic eczema. I got my tests back from the doctor for the 13 foods above and they were all clear, so according to the Japanese 'SRL' I am not allergic to those foods. I have to wait until July to test for another 13 foods so in the meantime I decided to go back into detox to cure myself. This time I didn't just eat apples, I stuck to the 13 'allergy safe' ingredients on the list. For 7 days I ate:

Grilled steak with Maldon salt and sweet potatoes,

Honeydew melon, blueberries, fuji apples

Chicken breasts, white potatoes, carrots and onions in the steamer

Grilled chicken, red wine, green tea

Boiled eggs, tomatoes with home-made mint sauce

Roast beef, raw young coconut

I didn't do anything in the frying pan, only used salt for seasoning and kept everything else in my routine the same. Sure enough 7 days later I have my hands back to normal. Now to star introducing more foods...."

Sometimes at work they get so itchy that I run them under scalding water till I cant take it anymore and pull them away.. I call it a handgasm it feels sooo good. I am in the middle of a horrible flair up and off work the next 2 days I just drank some ACV with water and soaked my hands in bowls of it I pray to god this helps Im tired of crying myself to sleep over the pain and itching : ("

10/13/2011: Joanl from Arlington, Tx Usa replies: "I, too, use scalding water to stop the insane itch, my trigger is pesticides( any -cides, really). I'm on an organic food only diet for 13 yrs, only flare ups now are after a restaurant meal, a bad batch of lager beer, and sadly, cascadian farms cereals, even though they are organic. Stay away from restaurant tomato products... they are loaded with baddies."
01/20/2012: Gramma2mato from Berry Creek, California replies: "Lynet from Pa and Joan from TX I agree, the scalding water ( through my rubber gloves) does give relief ( I would call it a handgasm too) but later the inflamation is worse.

Today I woke up with my second case of blood poisoning from the open sores from eczema on my hands. I have it all over my body now. I'm stopping the steroids they've had me on for 20 years as they aren't working and I just found out about the possible side effects.

I'm going to try a raw diet and water and green tea but we have city water and its full of salts and fluoride. My daughter just got diagnosed with celiac.

Stress is my middle name.

I wish you all luck"

ACIDOPHILUS

YEA

[YEA]  12/10/2006: B from Attica, IN writes: "After being diagnosed with IBS and perioral dermatitis I knew I had to make a change. I did my research and talked to a few people at the health food stores and then added probiotic acidophilus to my diet. The first week I took 2 times the recommended amount, the second week I cut it down the recommended amount and then have stayed on that amount rather well the past 10 years. It has fixed all the problems with my skin as well as my digestinal tract. All the diseases of the body start in the stomach and colon, the acidophilus either in capsule form or yogurt help correct this imbalance. By fixing the imbalance, everything else falls in line. My skin is beautiful now. I would recommend this to any one suffering from any skin lesions and digestive problems."

I now feel like myself again, and can actually sleep without Tylenol PM. Don't forget to moisturize problematic areas after showering."
[YEA]  11/23/2011: Kiri from Perth, Western Australia replies: "This dude is right, I had severe eczema all over my body, you take high doses of vit c to alleviate itching and for healing. Acidophilus at night for stomach inbalances, you will notice that your stomach can get very acidy, thats when you take an extra acidophilus. So one a night and one when needed. And have oatmeal baths (in handkerchief with rubber band around it, squeeze out white stuff, is healing and takes away itch) and eat as much as you can also. Put nutraplus as a healing cream, nothing else, as it will heat it up, and dove soap. Hope this helps someone out there. Kiri"

ALL ASPECT ATTACK REGIMEN

YEA

[YEA]  05/04/2011: Samuel from Redmond, Wa, Usa writes: "Before you begin the All Aspect Attack regimen, you must understand that keeping down eczema flare-ups is A HUGE DIET CHANGE. You MUST be willing to eat ONLY ORGANIC AND NON-PROCESSED FOODS!

After about a year of researching and executing cures that did not work for me, I have found that it is not just one action one must take to get rid of flare ups.

I say get rid of flare ups because it is impossible to get rid of eczema, however it is possible to remain flare-up free, and physically seem like one is rid of eczema, and remain flare up free for as long as one desires.

-----------

All aspects must be attacked when it comes to Eczema. There are four aspects in the order that they should be attacked:

1.) Detox reset

2.) Raw Organic Apple cider vinegar

3.) Skin reset

4.) Diet

If one successfully tackles all four aspects of this war against Eczema, one can eliminate flare ups from their system quickly and keep flare ups from returning. Within about 1 and a half weeks, my skin returned to normal and has stayed healthy.

-------------------

I will list exactly what I did:

First off let me mention that if you are serious about getting rid of eczema, all food you consume from here on out absoutely must be as organic and unprocessed as possible. If you follow this regimen but you continue to eat foods with artificial garbage in them then you're just asking for flare-ups. The biggest factor of this regimen is EATING AS HEALTHY AS POSSIBLE! Do not be ignorant- check ingredient labeling!

Also, constantly moisturize using anything of your choice. Do not wait for your skin to dry to moisturize. Over moisturize rather than under moisturize. Moisturize until your skin is uncomfortably greasy even. I used 100% cocoa butter I bought in a brick like form, where I had to melt in the microwave.

In addition, constantly drink water. Similar to moisturizing, do not wait until you are thirsty. A good way to figure out how much you should drink is by using body weight, where you drink 1/2 oz of water per pound you weigh. So divide your body weight in half, and then divide it again by how many hours you are awake, to figure out how much water you should drink every hour. I found this equation on this web page: http://athletesequation.com/HowMuchWaterShouldIDrink.aspx

Staying hydrated is incredibly important. I drank about 8 oz of water every waking hour this entire regimen, and even to the present of today.

1.) I detoxed using the three day apple diet I found on this website, however I only did it for two days, as on the third day I was very hungry. I bought and ate only organic apples. This is vital since before I was still eating not necessarily junk food, but regular food that had artificial ingredients in it here and there. I also drank 2 table spoons of raw organic apple cider vinegar diluted in 8 oz of water every morning and night, to this day. I do it every day, and throughout this regimen.

2.) On those same days I ate only apples, I purchased raw organic apple cider vinegar with mother in it. Using a mixture of 1/3 apple cider vinegar, and 2/3 water in an 8 oz cup, I rubbed the solution onto my patches of eczema. My eczema was very severe, so the burning was intense and painful, but the itch was obliterated afterwards. The pain was well worth it the itch relief provided. When you wash your eczema patches with ACV, do not panic if you see seemingly white bubbles form on the patches. Its normal. After rubbing the solution onto my patches, I waited until they dried.

I did this 1/3 ACV (remember it must be the organic raw kind with mother in it) 2/3 water wash once every day. It basically disinfected my open wounds in my eczema patches.

If for some reason you still itch, although it is not a home remedy, it is a useful back-up measure, get a product with menthol in it like a cough or vapor rub of some sort and apply it to wherever is itching. It has an incredible cooling effect and will generally instantly kill itch, in case the ACV did not earlier.

3.) After doing the eczema patch wash using the 1/3 Apple Cider Vinegar 2/3 water solution, I also took a bath for at least an hour with two cups of the apple cider vinegar. After the bath I immediately moisturized myself thoroughly. I would generally do the eczema patch washing in the beginning of the bath, in the bath.

4.) Once finished with the apple diet, I changed to eating only organic lettuce and organic chicken, since I know those foods in the past were neutral to me and were not flare-up inducing. This may not be the same for you, so make sure you only eat a small amount of food ranges you KNOW do not give you flare ups. Do not eat anything even mildly processed like organic cereal. Stick with raw veggies and meats you know are safe, and organic. From my experience in relation to me, eczema is 99. 9% diet related.

5.) I continued to take baths with two cups of ACV, and still washed my patches with 1/3 Apple Cider Vinegar and 2/3 water every day. On this day, AFTER washing my eczema patches and taking my bath, I reset my skin using steroid cream. This is the day after I finished the apple diet. So it is the third day.

I understand that this is a home remedy website but I see steroid cream as a strong skin resetting tool. I do not see it as a cure, not even close. However, for fastest results, it is the best thing to use in order to reset the skin back to normal. It is a resetting tool, that should NEVER be depended upon. I was lucky since I tried to avoid steroid cream usage as much as possible, so I was still able to use it as a potent skin resetting tool.

I only applied the steroid cream once, that was all I needed.

6.) As I continued to eat only organic chicken and organic lettuce, I also continued to bathe every day with the 2 cups of acv, and still washed my eczema patches with the 1/3 2/3 solution. I also still was drinking 2 table spoons of ACV diluted in a cup of water morning and night. I did it every day religiously, and still do.

7.) Around this point it was day four, and my phases of incredibly itchy patches of eczema were gone. My eczema patches were no longer risen or flared up, and it had no blisters. It was simply red, but it was flat. It was the same height level as my normal skin. It was healing. I easily rubbed off a lot of dead skin from my eczema patches in the bath. Do not forcefully rub off skin. At this point, dead skin should just easily come off after soaking in the bath for 30 minutes.

8.) Every three days I introduced a new vegetable to my diet, organic of course. I read that food can take anywhere from 24 to 72 hours to completely be digested and removed from your body, so I set three days as a good food testing time. After I was done with the vegetables, I then added fish, turkey, and other types of meat, all organic, and all once every three days. Since my diet was so bare it was incredibly easy to figure out EXACTLY what gave me flare ups and what did not. What made this food detecting process even easier to follow in the beginning was the apple detox since it let me fully know that my starting neutral foods lettuce and chicken were not giving me eczema problems.

9.) After 7 days had gone by using this regimen, my eczema patches had completely healed other than a few scars left from the deep scratching. Now you must understand, if you choose not to reset your skin using steroid cream, it may take longer to reach normal skin appearance, however since from my experience diet is what really contributes to eczema, chances are you will definitely achieve normal skin soon enough.

Afterword:

IT has now been a month since I did the regimen and I have no longer gotten any sessions of intense cravings to itch, nor have I gotten any flare ups. I no longer have to bathe in Apple cider vinegar because I have no eczema patches, however I still eat a very healthy, organic food diet, and I still drink 2 table spoons of ACV diluted in a cup of water in the morning and at night. As a side note, my acne has almost completely disappeared as well, which makes sense.

I have been suffering from eczema my entire life, which means about 18 years. The main solution to eczema flare ups being healthy organic food only, and avoiding all artificial ingredients and processed foods was mind boggling, miraculous, and frustrating all at once. I'm incredibly happy; happier than I've ever been before, now that I no longer have to battle with eczema flare-ups. However I'm frustrated that I never realized how vital it is to avoid regular food since it will always have artificial ingredients, even if it seems like it does not.

It frustrates and fills me with rage, how almost all products with a nutrition label and ingredient list will almost ALWAYS have some artificial garbage that you don't even understand on it, unless it is organic. Something as harmless as white tortillas could have some crap in it. Even some organic foods however, may have artificial junk in them, as foods can wield the USDA organic label but only be 95% organic, which is why checking the ingredients list is INCREDIBLY IMPORTANT.

The bottom line is that anything that is not organic or has artificial ingredients is poison. Citric acid is It is the reason you have eczema/acne. Even regular fruits and vegetables and meats, if not organic, are full of pesticides and other junk that can do nothing but harm you.

Just to let some of you know the real face of artificial ingredients, I finally researched what citric acid is. Unless the citric acid is coming from citrus fruit, artificial citric acid is derived from MOLD. You are eating or drinking a product that comes from MOLD. This alone should let people realize that artificial ingredients are poison.

Everybody is capable of ridding themselves of the symptoms of Eczema. Eczema will return if people cut corners and eat junk, however if people remain strong, and only eat organic food and avoid artificial ingredients like the poison they are, flare-ups can be a thing of the past."

It worked wonders for the three days I followed the instructions provided by someone else that posted way before me. I was so amazed that I did not need any additional encouragement to keep doing it. However, on the fourth day everything started to go back to "normal", meaning, itchiness, blisters, rash, aching came back. I guess that it only works because you are detoxing yourself; but the moment you go back to your regular eating habits you throw everything to waste. I am currently trying to see if there is any food allergy that might be triggering it as I have already tried two dermatologists, a homeopatic doctor, the apple fast and coconut oil (both rubbed and eaten) and nothing has worked for me yet. I need an urgent cure as I am mother of a 4yo and of a 15mo and you can imagine how painful it is even to hold them!!!"

He has had to have wet dressings applied to his whole body 4 times a day. I tried absolutely everything to try and get rid of his eczema but nothing worked. My parents have an apple tree and had given us bags of apples. My son loved them much that he was eating anywhere between 2 - 6 apples a day.

After a couple of days his skin was completely clearing of eczema. I couldn't believe it. But it didn't cross my mind at the time that it could be the apples. My son didn't have the apples for about 4 days and I could see that his eczema was coming back. Then it occurred to me that he wasn't eating the apples. So he started eating them again and within 2 days his skin was clear again.

I encourage those parents who are watching there children suffer with eczema to please feed them organic apples not the apples you get from the supermarket. Make sure there organic. I'm so happy and my son is even happier."

I saw one reference to an ingredient called quercetin (spelling?) that I knew was supposed to be in apple skin. I buy organic apples and slice one up every morning for her breakfast. She only eats half an appple, but the eczema is now easily controllable with a little half percent cortisone. If she ate a whole apple, I feel like she would not need the cortisone at all. I'd like to get her to try the ACV, but know she'd hate the smell. Love this site...just found it!"

QUESTION

02/07/2012: Yukoncorleone from Binghamton, Ny, United States writes: "I wasn't sure how to post my own post for the Apple Cider Vinegar thread for Eczema Remedies so I guess if this is the right way I'll just wait and see if my post shows up in the next day or two. If not I guess I'll just have to reply to somebody's post to get my question out there.

Joe from Upstate NY writes: I've spent most of the day reading these posts on ACV and I'm ready to give it a try for my Eczema that I've knowingly had (finally diagnosed with it by my doctor 3 weeks ago) for the past 3 months, but probably have had most of my life. And of course like with many of you, the doctors first reaction was to give me the oral steroids, creams, ointments, and antihistamines and then send me off to the dermatologist and allergist. I haven't gotten into the dermatologist or allergist yet, but until then I've took it upon myself to look some things up, which is how I came upon this site.

It's been really bad these past few months so I guess this is why I'm finally doing something about it. The steroids, creams, and antihistamines help a little with the itch, but the rash is still there and comes back full force when I stop taking them. It seems like the ACV combined with a good diet is working with some people to totally get rid of the embarrassing red patches that show up on the skin and in my case, almost all over the body (hands, arms, legs, back, chest abdomen, and waist).

I realize ACV is probably not the cure, and that you have to address the cause, which is probably my poor diet, but I just want to get rid of the embarrassing rash and that horrible itch. Hopefully by combining this treatment with eating better, I can get rid of or minimize the horrible effects of this disease.

I plan on getting the stuff with the "Mother" in it and just have some questions about how to take it topically and orally because I would like to do both. It is not that clear by reading through the posts of how much I should take and whether it should be diluted or used right out of the bottle. Maybe it's up to me but some quick replies on what you guys (other ACV users) do would be greatly appreciated.

Topically: Should I dilute it with water before I put it on my skin? What is the ratio? I've read 50/50, 1/3 to 2/3, etc. Etc. What's the best material to use to put it on your skin? Cotton balls? I have a lot of area on my body to cover. Do I have to dilute it? Would it hurt if I didn't dilute it before putting it on my skin?

Orally: I read that some people dilute 2 tablespoons in 8 ounces of water and drink it once in the morning and once at night. Do I have to dilute it in the water or is that just to ease the taste? Would it hurt to drink it as is, and then drink water after wards? I'm already planning on increasing my water consumption to improve my dry skin. Are 2 tablespoons the correct amount or should I drink less or more than that? Should I drink it once in the morning and once at night (with 2 tblspoons at each sitting), just once during the day, or more than this?

Sorry for the long post, just trying to figure out what to do with this ACV because I don't want to end up making things worse. Thank you in advance for your replies."

01/30/2012: Karen Helena from Toronto, Ontario writes: "I've had chronic eczema come and go all my life. No rhyme or reason. I tried western medicine, chinese, homeopathic, creams, remedies, you name it I've tried it. I'm a believer that eczema is the body's way of telling us we're toxic and I also know that often ailments get worse before they get better. At least I know this to be true in theory.

Whenever I've tried western medicine it clears up but eventually re-occurs. I think this is because I'm pushing the toxicity back into my body. I started to get a bad breakout last month. I forgot that my grandma says she takes ACV every morning and she is 92 and fit as a fiddle. In desperation, I started taking it. Most of the advice on this website says 2tbsp once or twice a day in water. I've been doing it for 3 days and my eczema has spread significantly and I haven't had it this bad in years and years. In fact, in the past it would breakout in one or two areas but now it seems it's flaring in all of those previously flared areas.

I'm a little scared but I'm wondering if this is just a major detox. I couldn't possibly be having an allergic reaction. I don't mind drinking the ACV now. It doesn't disgust me in the least but is it possible to have too much? If this is in fact a hard core detox and it works, than I will perservere through the pain."

Are you taking the one with the "Mother" in it? Has it gotten better at all? Please let me know as I want to give this sort of treatment a shot in hopes of improving my condition, and I like you am worried about the side effects. Think it was just a result of the detoxing effects ACV has?

06/15/2011: Vincent Rosaldes from Manila, Philippines writes: "I've been suffering from mild to moderate eczema (actually seborrheic dermatitis, but I know this is one of its subtype) for about 1 year already on my face. I get these rashes and dry patches on my face. For almost a year, I've been using Candibec cream (antifungal with steroid component). It helps with the inflammation and itching, but it just comes back. I know the reprecussions using steriods so I'm trying it the natural way.

I was inspired to see someone from a video blog who got "rid" of his eczema. That's why I'm starting on my ACV. I'm drinking ACV (2 tbsp of 1/4 cup of water), and applying some diluted ACV. It'll be one week tomorrow. There's no significant changes, but I'm just happy to know I've been off steriods for almost two weeks now. Flare-ups occur on and off, but it's not too bad.

Aside from these, I take 1000mg of Vit C, 400mg of Vit E and 3 soft gel capsules containing omega 3, 6, 9. I try to eat healthy as much as possible.

Sometimes, I want the easy fix, but I try not to hold off the steriods for the time being. I know this will take some time and lot of effort. I will update you guys a month from now if I see any huge improvements. We can do it guys!"

[YEA]  07/22/2011: Vincent Rosaldes from Manila, Philippines replies: "It's been more than a month now, and I've personally seen some significant improvements on my face. The flare ups are now very minimal and I can control them properly without using any steriods at all. This is actually my fourth day without any steriods.

So here's what I did:

1) I know this may be over the top, but I wash my face with distilled water to eliminate possible allergens using tap water. It did not do much during the first few days I started it, but it helped me factor out my reactions to stuff.

2) The moment I stopped using Cetaphil, which is my ONLY facial cleanser I use. My face improved tremendously. I dunno why though since Cetaphil is okay for sensitive skin.

3) I spray diluted ACV (just eyeball it not to be strong) on my face 2x a day. That's before I start my day and before I go to sleep. It smells a bit bad, but bearable. I'd rather have this than eczema. I let it air dry.

4) I use Physiogel AI Cream as a moisturizer. What it does is helps with the redness (AI == anti-inflammatory) and moistens your skin. I ordered Aveeno online, but it hasn't arrived yet. I'll probably try that sometime. My face has a bit of flakes, but it's not that noticeable anyway.

5) Continued eating healthy, drinking enough fluids, still taking the vitamins. I stopped going to the gym, since sweat or the stress in lifting weights do trigger the flare up, but I plan to go to the gym anytime soon, but gradually.

I hope this helps guys. Don't give up and try new things out (safe/natural of course). Cheers!

@Jay: I personally think it's okay, but make sure your hands are dry when you put on the moisturizing gloves."

08/09/2011: Sleepysin from Brooklyn, Ny replies: "In response to your not going to the gym, I've sort of worked my way around "not" working out. Exercise is generally kept to either at home activities where I can pace myself well and do not end up all sweaty, incorporate physical activity to daily things (skipping/running steps, mini crunch sets while at the computer) and my favorite - winter sports! I love snowboarding and never get sweaty because all the layers of clothes do well to absorb the moisture quickly and provides an amazing workout. As for the warmer months.. I can online go biking or inline skating when the sun is hidden away."
[YEA]  08/23/2011: Yooner from Oakville, Ontario, Canada replies: "Just wanted to add my thoughts to this thread as well. Like a lot of other readers I've been suffering with eczema for a good part of my life, at least 20 years. I've tried everything under the sun... Both western medicine and alternative. I stopped using the steroid creams after reading about the side effects and tried the holistic approaches including acupuncture, diet changes, etc.

A combination of ACV and diet changes seems to have done the trick! My eczema has gone down significantly (been about 2 weeks now) and the flare ups only occur when I get stressed out.

I followed the instructions of what many other readers have suggested but added a few of my own changes:

- 2 tbls ACV in 8oz of water (twice a day - morning and evening)

- Application of virgin coconut oil on eczema areas (twice a day - after morning shower and before going to bed)

- Cut out *ALL* dairy, fried foods, soda, refined sugar (I now use honey instead), beef, pork, and wheat (gluten). I still eat chicken and fish...

- Increased the amount of fruits and vegetables I consume considerably

- Drink at least 4 8oz glasses of water per day

- Try to have a positive attitude as much as I can (we always have a choice on how we react to life events... Took me a long time to realize this but it's true. If you're interested, check out Heal Your Life by Louise Hay).

I'm hope this helps if you're at your wits end on how to deal with eczema. Good luck!

And last but not least, thank you Earth Clinic for hosting this thread and for sharing all this incredible information!!! Knowledge is power, it truly is.

I've developed eczema over the last year (I'm 22) and have tried a lot of natural remedies. I first tried ACV and found that it made my eczema WAY WORSE. I was drinking about 2-3 oz a day and applying it topically (50/50 with water). I only did this for 2 days because I instantly saw negative results. I later discovered that I have an intolerance to sulfites, which is in ACV in high amounts (all vinegars, wine and dried fruit have loads of sulfites in them)...

I've been staying away from all preservatives and using BioOil mixed with Tea Tree oil and Lavender Oil and my eczema is slowly getting better. I was getting it on and around my lips as well as a big patch on my wrist and neck and it's almost completely gone on my mouth and more bearable on my wrist. Give a preservative-free diet a try!"

I didn't think anything of it for a few weeks, until I noticed it wasn't going away or getting any better. No amount of cortizone creams would help. Then I came across this website via YouTube and discovered the apple cider vinegar remedy. I went and purchased a bottle of pure raw and organic ACV (with mother) and began the ritual of drinking 2 tsp with 8 oz of water everyday and also dabbing the ACV straight on the inflamed patch of skin. Yes, it does burn at first, but this quickly subsides and after just 2 days the patch began to dry up and the dead skin cells started flaking off. I made sure to moisturize with a beeswax balm as well. I can that just after 4 days the ezcema is completely gone from my arm. The skin underneath the patch is a bit darker than the rest of my arm, but it is slowly fading and I'm sure it will be gone within a few weeks. So, yes folks ACV does work for eczema and apparently a host of other ailments. Nothing like mother nature!"

After reading so many postings about how ACV helped with eczema, I decided to try a 50/50 solution on my daughter last night due to a bad eczema outbreak coming on... I also talked her into taking 2 Tsp. with juice internally.... Let me say, I was utterly shocked to see the itching stop almost immediately (it burned for a bit at first), the biggest surprise was the allergies seemed to cease throughout the night, she slept without the itching, snorting, or scratching of the throat, didn't even wake up and had a peaceful sleep... I was truly shocked... Her skin even appeared to be clearing up just from one night of the acv, not to mention no stuffy nose in the mornings like she usually has, anyway its too early to tell if this truly worked, but it seemed to do the trick and I will update later but for now, I just may be a believer of this easy treatment. 05/03/2011: Sheila from San Diego, Ca, Usa replies: "Hi Hariz,

I've suffered from eczema, and it seems to run in my family with a couple of cousins, nieces, nephews and my two children having various skin problems. I haven't had eczema in a very long time, but recently developed contact dermatitis.

I believe eczema and dermatitis are similar in that they stem from allergic reactions or intolerance, and the possibility that the liver, kidneys and immune and digestive systems being over-taxed or not working properly.

1. What is "bio oil"? Do you mean bio fuel being used in a bio-diesel auto?

2. Your body is trying to purge something through your skin. It can be called die-off, Herxheimer reaction or just plain poisoning.

3. I would stick with diluted ACV, but use distilled water to dilute it if you continue to use it on your skin. If not distilled, then use filtered water, not tap. Is the ACV giving your skin relief?

4. Are you taking any OTC or Rx drugs for the eczema right now?

5. I would not use Cetaphil. I lean toward more natural skin care products. You can go to EWG's website to research ingredients of personal care products and their toxicity:

http://www.ewg.org/skindeep/
6. Start strengthening your liver, kidneys, and keep your urinary system healthy to help flush out whatever is in your system.

Our son used to get eczema regularly during the summer. We weren't sure what was causing it, but we did start him on a regimen of vitamins and supplements, reduced his eating of refined sugar drastically, and epsom salts baths twice a week to help ease his toxic load, plus we went through the house and got rid of the toxic household products (cleaners, detergents, etc. ) and replaced them with vinegar-based cleaners and soapnuts for laundry. It's been almost 4 years since he's had eczema. We also had our carpeting replaced since we found out he was allergic to dust mites.

For my contact dermatitis, I've been taking Quercetin (1000mg/day), CoQ10 (60mg/day) and for itching 30 drops of Nettle tincture in filtered water to drink. There are several things you could try to alleviate itchy skin: Vit C; drink green tea or a little coffee, and exercise to pump up your adrenaline, take care to drink enough water to re-hydrate yourself though, caffeine will deplete your adrenaline stores in your adrenal gland.

I'd be wary about using anything for the dryness on your face right now. I'm not using soap on my face for now, letting my skin breath and the flakes slough off on their own. When my the skin around my mouth started to crack and bleed, I used a little diluted ACV to clean it and massaged a drop of castor or jojoba oil into the surrounding skin."

05/04/2011: Sheila from San Diego, Ca, Usa replies: "I wanted to add that I figured out that the Benadryl I had taken seemed to have made the dryness on my face more severe. It definitely dried up the interior of my nostrils, one had started to bleed. I applied ACV which helped stop the bleeding and somewhat moistened the interior. It felt better."

01/19/2011: Karen from Great Falls, Mt Usa writes: "Hello,

I have had skin problems most of my 62 years, most of which I attributed to "dry skin" from living in dry northern climates. Most recently, I have been suffering with inflamed/itchy skin on my eye brow area--including my eyelids sometimes. Also, and more severe is the inflammation/itching and scaling inside my ears (not in the canal though, thankfully) and on my outer ear and lobes. I have tried many different remedies, some of which seem to work for awhile, including OTC hydrocortisone ointments as well as prescription steriodal creams. Mostly, I just try to keep the area moistened with triple antibiotic ointment because when I scratch, the area sometimes bleeds a little bit. I do not know if this is the type of dermatitis that most people seem to be having trouble with, such as perioral dermatitis. I think it is probably a type of contact dermatitis that has worsened from using steriodal type treatments.

Would the ACV work for my problem? I plan to buy some of the other suggested natural remedies such as calendula cream, castor oil, or coconut oil and try them to see if they give any relief. The condition has worsened this winter as I am inside most of the time in a dry heated house, although I did buy a room humidifier recently. [BETTER BUT NOT CURED]  03/02/2011: Lauren from Bracebridge, Ontario Canada replies: "I have been battling really annoying eczema on my lips for the past three months. Its possible that I have angular cheilitis as well because the corners of my mouth have been cracked and sore. I hadn't had eczema in years, but burned my lips badly over vacation and since then the eczema has flared up.

Tried treating it myself with various lipbalms, vaseline, even olive oil, nothing worked. Dr. prescribed cortizone which only made the itching stop temporarily, every 4 or 5 days the rash would come back. And if I ate certain foods (anything spicy or sour) it would flare up again. I was becoming hopeless and frustrated and then I remembered this site. I cant say yet is ACV is going to heal the problem forever but I can say that its feeling much better and I have only been using it for one day so far. I am drinking 2 glasses of water with 2 tsp. of ACV, and I am also applying it topically mixed with water on a cloth and just letting it rest on my mouth. It is not itchy, and the corners are healing up. I am still using a lip balm n between just to avoid licking, but so far this is looking promising! I just find it shocking that vinegar can actually make a rash feel better, you'd think it would be the opposite! Anyway, wish me luck."
[BETTER BUT NOT CURED]  03/04/2011: Lauren from Bracebridge, Ontario Canada replies: "Well its been three days of usage and the eczema is calmed down a lot, my lips are still somewhat dry, but the rashyness and split corners of my mouth have subsided greatly! I am so happy and not in pain. I will continue to treat with ACV every day and hope to report back in a few weeks that it is completely healed, and I have also been applying it as a toner, my skin looks and feels wonderful. This may be the best discovery ever! Thank you mother nature and thanks Earthclinic!"

I have had eczema like this on my lips for years and recently begun putting grape seed oil on at night and in am and it amazingly absorbs fast and leaves face and lips Hyderabad and smooth. I also take Apple Cider Vinegar but also cranberry seed oil. With amazing results. Hope this helps."

Loren for cracks in corners of yor mounth, you need to take B-vitamins (mega B) PLUS B-6 AND B-12 in capsules

Molybden (cure from Ted) and brush your teeth and tongue with BS (baking soda)

It helped me a lot, do not have cracks in corners of my mouth."

Currently suffering one of the worst breakouts in years. I find the Winter really makes my Eczema breakout worse due to the cold weather outside and the hot and clamy dry heat from heating indoors. When I exercise I have big red patches and when I come out of the shower my skin feels like dried leather.

Recently just stumbled upon the A.C.V stories online and like many of you felt its worth a shot. Im a little afraid to just lather it on with the 50/50 mix all over my body so im doing a "Patch Test" on my arms for a few days and im gonna do a lot of Praying!! Just a few questions... Ive made my 50/50 mix with 2 caps of bottled water and 2 caps of A.C.V... Is this a sufficient quantity and are moisturisers required as an application later? The stories all ye guys are posting are very encouraging... I hope to be able to add to them soon.... I checked this site to find out if the dosage I took was correct and found this forum and thought I would give my testimonial for ACV. I use organic raw unfiltered Apple Cider Vinegar from the health food store and keep it in the fridge. It was about 5.00$ for a Med. Size bottle. It helps A LOT! I am a total believer. [SIDE EFFECTS]  10/12/2010: Just Me from New York, United States writes: "I have read all the testimonies on this page and decided that I would give this a try. I have mixed the Apple Cider Vinegar and water solution in a spray bottle and spray it on after showering twice a day. I have also been taking a cap full of it internally. Since doing so my eczema has flared up more than it ever has and the itching is unbearable. I've had sleepless nights because of it and it's been 4 days already. I can feel the skin softening a little bit but I'm not sure if it is working. Can someone help me PLEASE! I don't know how much more of this I can take."

And you are not cured then it amazingly did not work for you. I honestly doubt it. I had dermatitis for more than ten years. Three years ago I started applying ACV topically. About a month ago I started drinking it. For me it is fine to mix it with V8. I did it because I want to lose weight but it came with very nice side effects, like a lovely complexion all over and many others I already posted. Be patient."

[NAY]  01/24/2011: Ruby from Beverly, Ma replies: "My son had severe eczema, as I posted on here it has improved 80-90% since removing fluoride from our water with a filter. Anyway he still has small flareups in the winter months so we tried the ACV. He is 12 and does not like drinking it so he applies it topically. He said it doesn't work that well and it burns like crazy, we are cutting it with water 50/50. I have used ACV as a toner on my skin and I have to say it does burn and I don't even have eczema. Tried it with my 2 year old Daughter same thing. She was screaming so much, I switched gears and just use coconut oil after bathing. For Adults this is a good remedy but for children, not so much in my opinion."
01/25/2011: Francisca from Michelbach-le-bas, Alsace, France replies: "Hi, have you thought of putting a bit of ACV in your children's bath water? I often do that and I have to say that I don't feel a thing. You have to have a bath tub, of course..... This is also advised in my Candida book."
03/15/2011: Allison from Los Angeles, Ca replies: "how much ACV can I put in my child's bath water without him noticing the sting? I would love more information on helping children with eczema, as I know there is no way my son will drink it. He is only 4. Thank you."

03/15/2011: Ellen from Sherwood Park, Ab replies: "Use a 1/4 cup of ACV. This should bring some relief. Also try coconut oil. Replace all oils, margarines, butters with coconut oil, plus rub it on all affected areas. This will bring fast relief if he is eating well enough. This means lots of fruits and vegetables along with many other ideas I have shared here about adding minerals into your diet. The coconut oil and minerals will balance all your son's systems and clear the condition. First and foremost add kelp - Laminaria digitata to your diet. It's granulated kelp that you can easily find on the web.Kelp is rich in minerals and he should eat about 1 tsp per day. This is easy to do if you sprinkle it on everything he eats as it does not add flavor. It takes on the flavor of the food he's eating as long as you don't add too much. Also, put in all sauces, baking (which should be minimal) even on toast. The thing is there is too much to go into here as one thing lead to the next in what I can share so please just add coconut oil and kelp to your family's diest especially your son's and you will see a remarkable difference soon after. If you want to read more about what I have said in regards to this from previous replies I have made please look up my name as there is a lot of good information that you might benefit from. Good luck."
03/31/2011: Eleny from Graham, Wa replies: "To Allison from Los Angeles, CA: Your son may like the ACV if you mix a small amount in some apple juice, about a half tsp four times a day should do it. I mix 1 tsp with apple juice for my kids and they have no prblems drinking it. The apple juice has to be strong. I gave my oldest daughter, who happens to have a horrible eczema flair right now, a bath with 1 cup ACV and about 1/4 cup Himalayan Crystal Salt. I read that sea salt works well but I do not have any at this time. The bath provided relief but definitly is no silver bullet. We are doing a combination of things and I believe that they are working just not in the timly manner that I would like.

In the meantime I have been also applying Lavender and Coconut oil and it is helping to reduce the itching. I also keep a small spray bottle that I spray prior to applying the oils. She is also taking EPO, krill oil, Full Spec. Vitamin E, Spirulina, Vitamin D3, Vitamin C, Chlorella, and drinking LOTS of water. We have eliminated almost all sugars from her diet and we are starting to see progress. I hope this is helpful. I recently read about a product called EMUgency that you can find that has helped people with eczema."

03/31/2011: Jay from Toronto, Ont, Canada replies: "To Allison and Eleny: Continue the ACV baths on a daily basis if you want to accelerate your progress. We have not completely eliminated the rash but have reduced the itching quite substantially. If I remember correctly the itchiness was mostly gone within about a week(of doing daily baths). We continued daily ACV baths every day for 3 weeks before interrupting the process thinking we had the upper hand on the rash. Some parts of the body are now free of rash and there are only new outbreaks when a new area is reinfected by scratching an infected area and then a non affected area. We are retuurning to daily ACV baths to see if we can further reduce the areas affected."
04/01/2011: Debbie from Melbourne, Australia replies: "Jay, I read about your suggestion of ACV baths for Allison & Eleny, for excema. That is great for the skin but internally there will still be a problem. I have been reading a lot about digestive problems (because of my son) and have read lots of info saying that digestive issues are the problem causing excema and that probiotics and fermented foods are the answer for long term cure of excema. Digestive issues cause many many problems. Google and do some research. Apple cider vinegar by mouth regularly is also needed (it is a fermented product) as well as therapeutic doses of probiotics. There is much information aviailable on youtube."

My eczema has worsened since college, my hands are inflamed, cracked and bleeding almost year round. I have used every steroid cream, spray and tape on the market with only slight improvement. About 6 days ago I came across this site and read about ACV. I figured it could't hurt to try. I stopped ALL steroids and started applying a 50/50 ACV/distilled water solution once in the morning and once before bed (air dry) and continued using my prescription (steroid-free) moisturizer. After about 24 hours my eczema was about 75% clear. It is now completely gone. AMAZING. I am so happy. I am a healthcare provider and need to wash my hands between patients (about 10-15 a day)... This was murder on my eczema but now has been no problem. NOTE: on day 3 I got a little cocky and used the ACV full strength- not a good idea, my hands became somewhat irritated... Went back to a 50/50 solution. Those of you who have suffered as I have can understand my elation. I can't believe something so simple has worked so well after all these years of fighting...Thank you EarthClinic...If you too have severe eczema don't be skeptical....TRY THIS!"

It's been a recurring thing, cycling between steroid creams, then using nothing, then natural creams, then back to the steroid creams. I've tried dietary changes, but have found most of them too strict, too expensive or too extreme and so I have difficulty staying with them. I've been tested for food allergies and have none, except blueberries, which I don't like any way. I do have grass and pollen allergies, which the ACV internally DOES alleviate. I have cut way back on the amount of refined sugar I eat, but the eczema persists. I tried topically applying the 50-50 ACV for the last 4-5 days, and am taking 2 tbs of ACV in water with a bit of baking soda once in the morning and once in the evening. So far, my eczema skin seems softer than usual, but it's still flaky, itchy and stingy. Am I doing this right? Can anyone help?"

The lotion, oatmeal soap and creams she gave me seems to not work and for a week now my skin itchiness, redness and spots seems to even worsen. Starting tonight I will try the ACV remedy. Wish me luck as I am really really embarrased already with those red itchy patches on my neck."
09/14/2010: Clinton from Surrey, British Columbia, Canada replies: "Hi, I have been dealing with eczema since I was a baby and now I am 17. Doctors say I have chronic eczema and what ever I have tried that the doctor has recommended seems to only work for a while. I usually get it around the face, neck and arms. It tends to be worse around my face. Can you guys tell me what exactly I have to do with apple cider vinegar to help with my eczema because that would be great. I am in my last year of high school and I am still very embarrassed about it, it has effected my social life because I don't like hanging out with my friends when my face is bright red and itchy. If anyone of you has any tips which would help me with my eczema would be great. Thanks"
10/11/2010: Patti from Seattle, Wa, Usa replies: "Question: I am experiencing my first outbreak of eczema on my hands. It has been spreading for about 12 days and I've tried the steroid cream from the dermatologist, with no real results. Now I'm trying ACV, based on what I've read on this website. This is day 3 of ACV treatments and I can't say that it's working because I'm still experiencing itching, the redness is spreading, and the worst of all, I can't sleep because of the stinging, throbbing, itching. The doctor said to take anti-histamines at night to stop itching and make me sleepy, but that has not worked whatsover.

So here is the question--is it possible to over-use the vinegar treatments? I'm tempted to slather it on several times a day. I'm also putting on the steroid cream, cream from the health food store, and a mild moisturizer. Maybe I'm using way too much stuff at the same time. I'm not sure what the signs of healing are, other than reduced itching (which would be a major breakthrough at this point). From other posts, it sounds like the affected skin gets flakey and falls off, which is happening on the inside of one finger. Maybe that is the first sign of healing? Thanks for any help."

10/25/2010: Cloudpoof from Holmdel, New Jersey replies: "Um, help, please? :C
Can someone tell me how strong their ACV was when they bought it? The ingredient list on mine says it has been diluted to only 5%, and I'm not sure if that's right, because people say they used a 50/50 ACV and water combo. Were they talking about the mixture, or the ACV being applied only diluted 50%? I am 15 and have been suffering from eczema from age 9, and I hate it!!! Thank you in advance."
10/26/2010: Lily from Brisbane, Australia replies: "Hi Cloudpoof, 50/50 Apple Cider Vinegar and water means that you put some Apple Cider Vinegar in a glass and put the same amount of water in. So say you put 1/4 of a cup of Apple Cider Vinegar in your glass, then you should put in 1/4 of a cup of water. All the apple cider vinegars although different brands and some being pasteurized and some not are all basically the same. Hope this helps. Lily."
01/07/2011: Reader from Ny replies: "Hi Cloudpoof, I just wanted to clarify that all ACV is not the same. I think the on with what is called "mother" is the best kind to get and is usually an organic kind. You should research some more as to the best brands. There are very processed ones, and I am sure that they don't have the same properites as the organic ones."

My whole face would be red and looked so raw it was really, really bad and actually still is. So I've been reading all these and about 3 days ago I started using ACV, the natural raw stuff. Umm, nothing yet really. Everything's exactly the same but I am gonna wait for a week before I give up on it. Today I went to my health food store. Seroiusly, all of you should go to one if you have one near you because if you ask them they will give you so much information it's crazy. So she gave me some drink and I'm gonna try it and see how it works. I am 17 and it's so sad like I changed into a different person when this started I don't like to look at people and hate when people talk to me. We haven't tried ACV but we were informed that fluoride makes eczema exponentially worse. So we purchased a shower head fluoride filter ($60-$70 from http://Amazon.com) we also started using fluoride free toothpaste. My sons eczema improved by about 80-90%. It was incredible how fast his skin cleared up. He also uses organic coconut oil on his body after showering, he just rubs it in along with a myrrh-goldenseal salve that we purchased online(cheap). These things have seemed to help a great deal.

We will try the ACV next. Like I said, he had it all over his face, arms, legs and stomache. Now he just has it a little in the creases of his arms and legs, not much at all in the summer. Also Sunlight is very good for eczema. He would go to a tanning salon every few days (a Level 4 bed which administers only the good usb rays). I have friends who go to tanning salons for psoraises and it is very effective. Try filtering out fluoride though, that was the best thing we ever did. Most Municipalities fluoridate the water and most people use fluoride every day in their toothpaste."

I have done the steroid creams and moisturizers to no avail. Last winter it did not clear up and I had it all summer long. After reading the post about fluoride, my jaw hit the floor. My dentist prescribed fluoride prescription toothpaste that I have been using regularly for the past three years. Tomorrow the toothpaste is out and I am going to try the ACV. It just blows my mind how all this stuff is related. I'll keep you posted!"

06/09/2010: Ann from New York City, Ny, Usa writes: "I have had eczema all my life, and recently had a big flare up, brought about by a sudden heat wave.

I tried Apple Cider Vinegar treatment, 2 tbls ACV 1/2 tsp baking soda in a glass of water taken internally, as well as 2 tbls ACV 1/2 tsp baking soda in half glass of water applies topically, frequently throughout the day. I am now on my fourth day. I have been using non-organic ACV because that's all I could find, but today I found a raw organic one that I will switch to.

This sounds weird, but I am not sure if it is helping the eczema or making it worse - firstly it seemed to get much worse before getting better, which I didn't mind because that's often the case with a lot of remedies. Signs that it is helping is that the topical application definately cuts down the itching. Seemed to dry out the rash, and after a few days the old skin started flaking off, revealing new eczema free-skin underneath. This is great, but at the same time, each time I put a topical application, the skin goes bright red and inflamed, even the new eczema-free skin. So I am wondering if it's possible that the treatment is helping in one way, but simeoultaneously harming and inflaming the skin in another way? Or is it possible that I am doing the topical application too frequently, and the fruit acids are burning the skin (is that possible?)

Please help, let me know if I should stick with it or not. Also, does anyone have any experience with switching to filtered water helping with eczema? I have heard that fluride and chlorine, which both irritate eczema, are found in increasingly higher ammounts of tap water, and putting a filter on your showerhead and drinking filtered water can improve eczema, but I'd like to hear from others before going to the expense.

Thanks all, and keep up the good work. This site is a valuable resource."

After purchasing it our pediatrician said that city water is actually better. There also is old folk remedy of bathing in warm but not hot water with a capful of bleach. It is supposed to dry out the skin and kill any infection in the skin. I have not tried it because my son is only 2 and is already traumatized by baths he took with the water softener. He said it burned. "Made his boo boos hot". Hope this info helps you."
[WARNING!]  12/22/2010: Mary from Gloucester, Ma replies: "Water softening is the reduction of the concentration of calcium, magnesium, and other ions in hard water. These "hardness ions" can cause a variety of undesired effects including interfering with the action of soaps, the build up of scale, which can foul plumbing, and galvanic corrosion. Unfortunately water softeners are not removing fluoride and they are removing Magnesium which is something I supplement my child with because it help to detox. So I'm not sure why anyone would recommend you do this, it doesn't make sense??"

Incredible since 3 days ago the tops of my arms were enflamed incredibly itchy, unsightly red bumpy patches from my wrist to past my elbows. I have never given my testimonial about anything and had to for this because I am truly surprised it works so well and so fast! I was on the verge of picking up my prescription for Elidel which I knew would only mask the problem rather be the cure, but I was getting desperate as the eczema was spreading up my arm. [BETTER BUT NOT CURED]  03/02/2010: Valerie from Miami, Florida writes: "Apple Cider Vinegar helped my 10 year old with her eczema. My daughter has slight eczema since age 2. After moving to Florida, with the ocean and the sun, we forgot all about this ugly condition, but the unusual cold wheather this year has caused her eczema to flare up all over her arms and legs. I tried lots of creams and ointments, but she still scratched her self on a daily basis...I use this site a lot and I went to search for a cure and it worked!

I got a spray bottle and poured 2-3 table spoons of ACV 'organic' and some water to dilute the solution maybe 2-3 table spoons or less, I didn't measure.

I had her spray it on the sores and she said it burned but the itching was gone. After the solution dried I had her apply a gentle, organic face cream to keep the skin moisturised.

She does this in the morning and at night and its been a week and she feels great. Too soon to tell if its gone, but my baby feels better and thats great!!!

Thank you all so much for your wonderful suggestions.

Be well."
