[YEA] 06/05/2009: Mom2_3 from Balitmore, Maryland writes: "my family friends son had an ear infection for nearly a year. They did everything imaginable to cure it and nothing worked. He had oozing green nasty stuff coming from his ear constantly. After many different painful and risky treatments, including thinking of taking out parts of his ear (10 hour surgery), they were referred to their last resort at John's Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore City. The doctor was stumped and gave them one last idea...he said this may or may not work but let's give it a try....use vinegar to irrigate the ear twice a day. After 2 months of that and then 1 month of once a day it was gone and has NEVER returned! VINEGAR!"

[YEA] 11/25/2007: Kia from Columbia, South Carolina writes: "Sweet Oil: I'm 26 years old and I lived with my grandmother a majority of my life. For as long as I can remember, anytime I would get ear aches, she would put sweet oil in my ear. Sweet oil can be found at any grocery store. All you have to do is get the sweet oil, pour the sweet oil in a tablespoon, and heat it up. I usually put a lighter under the spoon to get it warm, (not too hot). Next, get a cotton ball and soak up the sweet oil. Put the cotton ball(s) in your ear(s), and the next day you will be cured. This remedy has never failed me or anyone else in my family. Its guaranteed to work."
09/09/2008: Kathy from Mountain City, TN replies: "I want to try this Sweet Oil remedy. What is Sweet Oil? Where can it be found at the grocery or at Walmart?"
EC: Sweet Oil is another name for Olive Oil.
[NAY] 08/20/2009: Sara from Columbus, Oh replies: "Every summer I always get the same old swimmers ear. Right now It's the one of the more bad ones and I'm just plain fed up with it. I've tried everything. Sweet Oil doesn't work. It just makes you sleepy."
08/21/2009: Joyce from Joelton, Tn. replies: "For those who might be wondering what "Sweet Oil" for an earache might be, my bottle of it states Olive Oil, N.F, and says pure natural oil. I seriously doubt that it is extra virgin which we use in cooking, but don't see why the EV olive oil wouldn't work as well or better. So why go buy a bottle of sweet oil, if you already have olive oil in the kitchen?"

[YEA] 02/09/2007: Tori from Flushing, MI writes: "I have been suffering from an ear infection for almost 2 months now. Just when I think it clears up it was right back the next day. I have tried everything. From warm damp towels to HP. A friend told me about Sweet Oil. Warm it to the touch and put a couple of drops into the infected ear. I left it in for about 2-3 minutes. I repeated this about 3 times. The pain was gone almost instantly. Now this is not a cure but it did relieve me of pain and discomfort until I could get antibiotics. Also HP helped but only for a short time. It was only a temporary fix until the proper antibiotics were taken. Sweet oil can be found at special health food stores and more than likely at your grocery store. Also, this has nothing to do with ear infections but does anyone have health cures for migraines?"
04/17/2009: Mary from Regina, Saskatchewan replies: "About the migraines... I bought my daughter a very good air purifier with multiple filtration system and it cut her migraines back to next to none from almost constant."

[YEA] Michelle from Lamora, Mexico writes: "When I would get earaches as a child my mom would warm a spoon over the fire or even with a match/cigarette lighter, for a few seconds then dump either olive oil or onion juice on the spoon then dump it in both my ears and put cotton balls in them. Then she'd let me lay on a hot water bottle this usually helps. But once when I was younger I tried to do that for my sister and I heated the spoon too hot and burnt her so you have to watch for that"
[YEA] 02/07/2010: Ani from Ontario, Canada replies: "Warmed olive oil helps relieves ear aches. My mom would always heat some olive oil, saturate a bit of cotton and stuff it in the ear. Don't pour the oil directly in, you could burn it. This remedy always worked for me."

[YEA] 03/17/2008: Erica from Sun City, CA writes: "Yesterday morning my 3 year son woke up screaming that his ear hurt. I'm a firm believer in chiropractic but it was Sunday and had to find something else for him. I didn't want to take him to urgent care because I didn't want antibotics so I turned on my computer and went to earthclinic and searched ear infections. I tried the warm salt on a washcloth, microwaved it and put on his ear. I did this twice in one hour and he hasn't complained once. Thanks so much!"

[YEA] 03/15/2008: Clyde from Kenai, Alaska writes: "An old trick for relieving earaches is warm salt in a cloth heated in the microwave as you have or will read in the comments here. PLEASE be very careful when microwaving socks & clothe they can and will catch fire. 30 seconds at a time is plenty if not warm enough heat 5-10 sec longer."
12/31/2008: Alma from Blue Hill, Maine replies: "This sounds like the best idea yet...but how do you warm the salt. I have put in a bowl and put it in the microwave for 50 sec. and it doesn't seem to get very warm."

[YEA] 03/07/2008: Amanda from Burlington, CO writes: "My son had an ear ache last night. somtimes ear drops can be painfull. Now he was already on medication for a cold( first dose given today). I gave him a pain reliever, but knew that would take time. So, I contacted my local hospital. The nurse on call suggested I place salt ( any amount) in a sock and heat it in the microwave. once making sure it wasn't too hot. I then put the sock under my sons ear while he was lying down. I placed about half a cup for one minute on high. There is no exact amount that would be right. enough to cover the ear while lying down. also a thicker sock is better than a thin one. Place an elastic band at the end or tie. Some will leak out, but totally worth it. After that my son only woke once more. I know the pain reliever helped. But the warm salt really helped sooth him."
