"In medicine, diarrhea, also spelled diarrhoea (see spelling differences), refers to frequent loose or liquid bowel movements.

Although for many people diarrhea is merely unpleasant, diarrhea that is both acute and severe is a common cause of death in developing countries and a major cause of infant death worldwide. It is often due to gastroenteritis.

Diarrhea is most commonly caused by viral infections, parasites or bacterial toxins. In sanitary living conditions where there is ample food and a supply of clean water, an otherwise healthy patient usually recovers from viral infections in a few days. However, for ill or malnourished individuals diarrhea can lead to severe dehydration and can become life-threatening without treatment." (Wikipedia)

[YEA]  01/28/2012: David from Lake Worth, Fl writes: "This stuff is amazing! I did a Google search for something that would stop diarrhea. I've had it for a week and it intensified yesterday for some reason. I had to go every 30 minutes (even waking up from sleep and having to go)! Apple Cider Vinegar, apples, and yogurt would not stop it. I went this morning to The Vitamin Shoppe and picked up their version of Activated Charcoal since many people on this site swear by it. I took it at 9 am. I haven't had to go since. DEFINITELY a keeper for my medicine cabinet! I thank you and so does my toosh!"

[YEA]  05/06/2009: Crista from Pekin, Illinois writes: "My husband and I are currently in school so our diet is not always the best because we are always studying. Because of this on the occasion food does not agree with us and of course the diarrhea happens, or even just a really upset stomach with maybe quite softer poo later. Anyways, I looked this up on the website and actually other websites as well. I found the activated charcoal in the stomach section of a pharmacy store. It really works. My husband had a particularly bad case so I made him take I think two capsules. He was reluctant, but after he took it he stopped having diarrhea and at the time he was vomitting as well. This stopped it all. It wasn't a miracle feel better, but the erradication stopped instantly. Because he was having an aweful time it took him till the next day to feel better. After that moment when either one of us has a thought of upset stomach we go straight to the activated charcoal. I usually just take one capsule and am done with it. Like I said it doesn't make you feel purfect, but it stops the problems out right. Not only did I use it for this, but because of its absorbtion properties I put it on a bug bite as a paste with water applied it to a bandaid and it stopped itching rather quickly. I think I made that to runny, but it worked well despite my mixing abilities."

[YEA]  03/30/2010: Bobbi from Auburn, California writes: "At the first sign of gastro-intestinal upset take 1/3 cup of aloe vera juice. Relieves diarrhea and associated cramping within 15 minutes. Better than Kaopectate or Immodium AD. It can be purchased in the Health Food section of most grocery stores. The taste is not horrible but not great either. For children the aloe vera juice can be added to orange or apple juice to disguise the taste. I have been using this remedy since 1991 and swear by it."

WARNING!

[YEA]  11/15/2011: Terri from New Port Richey, Fl writes: "I have been using the advice and testimonials from Earth Clinic for years and have used it many times. But, I haven't had ANYTHING work as well or as quickly as ACV for diarrhea!

I have suffered with a horrible stomach virus for 3 days and the diarrhea was getting worse. I tried Immodium which helped, but when it came back, it was with a vengeance.

In desperation I went to my old friend, Earth Clinic for advice. Once again, most yeas were for ACV! Just as others have said, within 15 minutes, the symptoms stopped! I used 2 Tablespoons ACV with the mother and 2 Tablespoons of organic honey mixed in water. It's a bit hard to swallow, but helps if you have a chaser of tea or other liquid.

Once again, yea Earth Clinic!"

[YEA]  02/19/2011: Janikaye from Bloomington, Mn writes: "The stomach flu ran one by one through every person in our family and it lasted for days. Eventually the throwing up stopped but I still had a terrible case of diarrhea and my stomach was gurgling constantly and full of gas. Very painful--even my ribs ached. So on day number five of this, I took my apple cider vinegar (with the mother). I used 2 Tablespoons mixed with some water. At first I wondered if it was helping, then I realized yes! It's getting somewhat better. The diarrhea stopped and so did all the gurgling. I took a second dose of the ACV before bed and then next morning when I woke up, even the gas was gone. I finally have my life back! I'm very thankful to this website and my friend Jill who told me about it. Praise God! "

Could hardly sleep because I was up every hour to go to the restroom. After google led me to this site, I was excited to try the ACV - and it worked! I took 4 T in 1/2 cup of warm water, added honey to taste. It was a little nasty, but drinkable. I slept through the night last night! Had a couple more bathroom trips this morning until I drank more ACV, and have been diarrhea free for the last 5 hours!!!! It works, thank goodness!"

[YEA]  03/27/2010: Al from Orlando, Fl writes: "Acv cured my upset stomach and diarrhea within 10-15 minutes. I had a couple bouts of borderline explosive diarrhea and felt queasy/weird afterwards. I took about 2 tablespoons of ACV in a cup of cool water and ice. I put a bit of honey in it too to help sweeten (though the water is so cold, it didnt really soak in...). I had a bit of a drinking night last night (whiskey and vodka primarily) and had coffee this morning from freshly roasted beans. Needless to say, that kind of ended badly. Thank god ACV was there to save me.. ! This stuff is great. Be sure to use a straw and make sure you get the straw deep into your mouth so you dont hit your teeth with the vinegar. It's not great for your chompers. The kind of ACV I used was not organic with mother (if you dont know what that means, look it up because it's good to know) and was just taken from the grocery store. I havent tried organic mother ACV yet, but its supposed to have a lot more raw nutrients in it than regular brands. Good luck!"

[YEA]  07/15/2009: Frederick from New York, NY writes: "I had food poisoning 14 days ago and although the bad diarrhea subsided, i have had loose bowels a couple of times each day and cramping and gas all day. I wasn't getting any better. I began using pepogest and digestive enzymes and that helped a little. Then i read about acv on earthclinic so i bought some immediately (all i could find was unfiltered/pasteurized). I took a tablespoon in 8oz of water 3 times a day with each meal. After 1 day I am already feeling relief. I have much less cramping and gas and have only gone once today. I hope that this remedy continues to help me improve."

[YEA]  05/19/2009: Karlap from Orlando, Florida, USA writes: "My 2 year old son and I had a bad case of stomach cramps which turned into 3 days of watery diarrhea every 30 min or so or everytime we ate or drank anything. I checked this site for remedies and tried Apple Cider Vinegar(ACV) (I already had in my cabinet) mixed with water.
I mixed 2 tsp ACV in about 20 oz. of water. I smelled it in the glass and knew it would be hard to get my 2 year old to drink this!! I poured half into a glass for me to drink. I poured the other half into a sippy cup, opened up one of those take-along flavored pouches you shake into bottled water (hard to describe & not use a brand name)and used about half the pouch to flavor his ACVwater in the sippy cup. I did this a few times, maybe every 2 hours, each time using less flavor to make sure he was getting the ACV. It's been about 4 hours and neither of us has gone to the bathroom. It may be early but I'm gona call it and say this remedy actually worked."

I have tried ACV before, and i am a believer in it, but i was amazed that despite taking pepto bismol and immodiam ad, ACV finally gave me relief. after being stuck at home for 2 days i was able to go out to watch a basketball game, go out to a nice dinner (couldnt eat much but at least i was not running to the restroom). I am going back onto a ACV regimen, trying it out again has made me a believer again."

I was becoming raw and felt sick every time I needed to go (which was often). I sipped a hot cup of black chai tea mixed with 2 tablespoons of regular ACV (not organic, just generic) and to my surprise everything went away. No joke! The sharp pain behind my belly button and the diarrhea stopped. It has been two days and its never returned! I was seriously considering going to the ER and Pepto was doing nothing for me. I never even took another dose of the ACV, just the one. Worked great!"

Couldn't sleep, of course, and found this site. Tried the ACV (two tablespoons in a coffee mug of warm water). [YEA]  11/22/2008: Shawna from Central, Ohio writes: "I tried the Apple Cider Vinegar in a last ditch effort after not having relief from several doses of Pepto. After researching the internet, I found this site and decided to try the ACV. My stomach stopped turning within about 15 minutes.

I took several doses of 2 tablespoons in 8 ounces of water. I did this for several days until I didn't have a weak stomach. I'm not sure if I should have taken it that often, but I did what I needed to. I've reccomended this to my co-workers who all think I'm crazy, but it works!

Thank you for posting, I'm so glad that I tried the ACV. (I've also read on this site that ACV will help to lose weight, if you use it sparinglty. I've not tried this, but thought I would share my new insight.) Thank you!"

[YEA]  11/04/2008: Miriam from New York, N.Y. writes: "I've been a fan of earth clinic for almost 2 years now, and finally I can contribute to the feedback! About 3 hours ago I had horrible cramping in my belly. So I went to the bathroom, and lo and behold I had a bad case of diarrhea. I had to go a couple of times. However, I still didn't feel 100% after. So I started thinking about what I ate or if my dog being sick vomiting earlier had anything to do with it. Naturally, I went right here to look up remedies for diarrhea, and good old apple cider vinegar came up! I already had a bottle of organic ACV with the mother (I know.. don't mention labels.. lol), which I have been taking on and off for the last year and half. I took 2 tbls with a glass of water about an hour ago, and now I feel great! Where there was an uneasy feeling and gnawing pain in my lower abdomen, now is replaced by a relieving and soothing, almost cooling, sensation. And NO MORE DIARRHEA... WHAT A RELIEF!!! =D"
