[YEA] Kyriacos from Greece writes: "hello, ...recently, about a week ago I took the initiative to look up cholesterol on Google, in hope of finding some natural treatment for my high cholesterol. ...and I stumbled across your site, which introduced me to 'apple cider vinegar' treatment. A treatment I have applied for a week now as directed, along with considerable garlic, each day. ...and my health in that one week has had a complete turn around. I haven't felt like this for over two years. I don't know if I owe it to apple cider vinegar or the combination of that, with garlic, but my health has made a complete turn around, in just one week. And although they tell me garlic can lower blood pressure I will keep this treatment up for a while, until at least I have brought my cholesterol down to normal levels. ...anyway, from deeply down in my heart I thank you greatly, because for over two years now I have been completely down health wise, which stressed me out considerably throughout that period, since I never felt any comfort in my state of health. ...thank you very much."
RepliesTed from Bangkok, Thailand replies: "A couple of days ago I did research on pectin. (I have about 1 pound of pectin at home). If pectin is added to the diet (3%) there is something like a 90% reduction in cholesterol and plaque in the aorta after eating on a diet of pectin added foods for about 9 months in tests of microswine (miniature pigs). Pigs are very close to humans. The reason why apple ciders works so well in reduction of blood pressure and fats is due to the pectin content in the apple cider. Of course, if you add them to your food (pectin), the plaque and cholesterol will be reduced. Most natural supplements in the market that sell pectin is not therapeutically effective because the amount they are adding is far too small (10-200 mg), while pectin is considered a soluble fiber food, we need 3% when combined with other foods. Best way is to add them in soups and fruit juice."
07/29/2008: A. Jordan from Taylors, South Carolina replies: "Ted, from Bangkok said that 3% pectin or higher, well in mg, what would that be?"
08/16/2009: Carrie from Eau Claire, Wi replies: "Ted...I read that if you get rid of the Candida overgrowth it will help with the cholesterol..because of the mycotoxins..and the excess cholesterol is there to protect you from the mycotoxins to not damage the organs...I believe that overgrowth of yeast is the reason behind disease..but it all begins with improper digestion due to certain foods such as dairy, wheat, soy and corn. Also, with acidic foods that keep the PH not where it's suppose to be at letting candida take over...and also, because of the chlorine in our drinking water that kills off our beneficial bacteria that can't then keep candida at bay..I had serious issues with candida...and found that ph balancing helped that drastically and to watch out for sugar..my diet is plain and simple and it is working for me..I have cured my allergies, ovarian cysts, hemorhoids (sp?)...and am now realizing that by taking depakote for 30 years was preventing vit D absorbancy I feel leading up to my gum disease now..I feel that I have been unhealty since a child and I am in my 40's now...why didn't the doctors tell me I needed to supplement with vit D..it upsets me...also had chronic fatigue recently and am recovering...and it was not fun..the doctors could not help me..I am recovering because I found out that vit D and calcium are imp, and ph balance, and to rid of sugar of the diet which I had such a craving for for so long due to a terrible yeast overgrowth in body..I feel that the fatigue was because of the yeast...and once I cleared this..things started to turn around..I now make better choices for myself, and it feels good to know that you can heal yourself just by changing your diet to alkaline keep it simple...rid of sugar..drink good water,,,rid of chemicals...I realize that it starts with proper digestion and if I had this as a child I wouldn't have had seizure issues and allergies, constipation and eczema...I can't believe that I finally understand what is going on here...well, all that I have done for myself is working for me...and I no longer am on any meds....just trying to save my teeth now..will see what happens as I continue to oil pull and use your advice on what to do for gum disease. Ted do you have any comments on the things I feel have been working for me?.."

No more sleeping pills and I am not exaggerating when I say I sleep like i did in my 20's. At first my skin felt like it was burning for a couple of days then when it was gone so were many ailments. I am about to embark on them. I found several that are not as drastic as Hulda Clark's, although when I get the druthers I will do that one as well. You might want to go to Curezone.com and see what they may have to add, however, I would definitely stay away from the debate forums, at least for me they're a melange of highly principled individuals to lunatics.

[YEA] 05/07/2008: Melissa from Minneapolis, Minnesota writes: "This is amazing and TRUE! Using remedies I found on this site, I lowered my total cholestrol 72..yes 72 points in one month! My Doctor called me personally to tell me NOT to fill my prescritp for Lipitor because he was "shocked" and "amazed" that my cholestol had dropped to NORMAL! He told me to "keep doing what I was doing"!
One month ago I found this website after my doctor told me my total cholestol was 272 and I'm a young 40-something year old woman! He gave me one month to "get it under control" since I was hesitant to start Lipitor.
I used ACV daily, at first 1 tsp. before each meal then working my way up to 1Tbs. twice daily, at breakfast and dinner. I also added daily at dinner time, 1200mg of Red Yeast Rice Extract, 100mg of CoQ10. 1000 mg and of Fish Oil. If I knew I were going to be eating a high fat meal, I took 3 chitosan capsules before those meals ( as needed not at each meal). I also used fresh Cilantro "chelation" daily. Basically a cilantro pesto made with 1 c. fresh cilantro, 2 Tbs. olive oil, 1/2 c. almonds, 3 cloves fresh garlic and the juice of one fresh lemon..pulse in food processor until it's a paste then eat 1 to 3 teaspoons of it daily. It worked for me, familial high cholestrol was a factor for those of you with a genetic predisposition. Try it!!!"
Replies05/12/2008: Melissa from Minneapolis, MN replies: "re: High Cholesterol -- I neglected to add that my triglycerides also dropped dramatically from 313 to 168 in ONE MONTH following the Apple Cider Vinegar and supplement program I cited above. I'm looking at my test results as I write this and it truly is amazing! I couldn't be more surprised and pleased. I wish you success and good health!"

[YEA] 05/18/2008: Julie from Akron, Ohio writes: "My cholestrol has been high my entire adult life. I come from it naturally in a family that has the same problem. I have been put on just about every medicine that has come out without success. I have tried garlic and a low fat diet but have had no success with that either. I came across this page while researching migrane remedies and thought that I would give it a try. I started taking 2 tablespoons of apple cider vinegar in a glass of warm water once a day about a year ago. My cholestrol has always measured around the 254 mark and my triglycrides had always been well over 300. This past January my blood draw came back with very surprising results. My cholestrol was 162 and triglycrides were 163. I made the nurse calling me double check the name on the report. I have continued this therapy hoping that it wasn't a fluke. I will know in August when I have my next blood draw. I'm hoping for even better results. I also was able to stay 100% healthy this past year. With so much illness in a very close office setting I was able to not use one sick day while most of my co-workers were off at least one day if not more. It has not produced any weight loss benefits but I'm only 140 lbs to start with so I'm not so concerned with that as I was with the cholestrol results. I have passed this on to some friends that are suffering from the same thing. I'm waiting to hear their results."

[YEA] 11/18/2005: Ryan from Oneonta, NY writes: "High cholesterol can be lowered by avoiding foods with trans fats in them. Trans fats tend to raise LDL (bad) cholesterol and lower HDL (good) cholesterol. They are suspected of causing many health problems, including obesity, type 2 diabetes, and rigid arteries. In the ingredients list, if you see "partially hydrogenated" oils, do not eat. For more information go to www.bantransfats.com"

I'v stopped eating fried foods & fast food. started eating alot of fish & steamed vegies. I started taking a supplement called pantethine, you can take up to 1200mg a day, i've been taking 600mg a day. i've been getting blood work done every 3 months. i'll be going sometime next month to see if my numbers got any lower. i'll let you know, good luck."

The doctor was threatening me with yet another prescription medicine that I would have to take for the rest of my life. I was determined to avoid that and get off my blood pressure medication in the process. I began to take Milk thistle for the cholesterol. In just three months, I was able to lower the total cholesterol to 189. I must mention that I did in fact change my diet. I avoided bread, sugar, potatoes; began eating more vegetables and protein. I managed to lose 15 lbs, and my blood pressure medicine as well.I would also like to share that this site has been very helpful to me, my grandchild (egg whites and fever), and my husband avoided a 2nd heart attach by putting cayenne pepper under his tongue whenever he was feeling ill. We ended up in the hospital, but the doctor stated that the episode was only an angina, not a heart attack and no evidence of damage to the heart. Thanks earth clinic, for all the education that you have provided me.

12/24/2009: Paul from Nashville, Tn replies: "high cholesterol remediesjust to update my cholesterol. went and had my blood work done and my cholesterol is in normal range. my total cholesterol was 159, HDL=47 and LDL=93. the doctor recommended i stay on 40mg of my medicine but i'm lowering it to 20mg and raising the pantethine to 450mg twice a day and keeping with my diet. i'll be getting my cholesterol checked at the end of january."
02/27/2010: Steve from Austin, Texas replies: "Word of caution, it's not "just" angina. Angina is a symptom that the heart is not getting enough oxygen and is usually caused by a significantly blocked artery (usually 90% or more). Immediate medical treatment is required to relieve the blockage.
If you ever experience Angina (tightness or pain in the chest along with numbness or pain down the underside of either arm) which is most often brought about during periods of physical activity, you need to immediately go to the Emergency Room."

I didn't know what my level was, I don't think it was high in the first place, but the results were amazing. I had been taking a tablespoon of BSM for a couple of months. I am not an athletic person by any stretch of the imagination, and I don't exercise with any honorable amount of regularity. And when I returned an hour later for the results, the guy shook his head in amazement because he said my cholesterol revealed what would be normal for someone who was involved in heavy athletic activity! (My unimpressive physique said otherwise, as he knew.) I had not been taking any other supplementation, so it is my unwaivering belief that the BSM had such an impact on my blood system that it revolutionized it! I got away from it for a while, but desire to see an improvement in my complexion, AND see if I can vacate my noggin' of ensuing gray hairs!"

BOOK REVIEWS
06/22/2010: Francisca from Michelbach-le-bas, Alsace, France writes: "Book Review: Fat and Cholesterol are Good for you - Dr. Uffe Ravnskov
I first read "The Great Cholesterol Con" by Dr. Kendrik but I wasn't too impressed with his joking tone (I suppose many people will love it but for me this subject is too important to lose too much time with jokes!). And I found the message a bit confusing. After researching a bit further I found "Fat and Cholesterol are good for you" and the title is so controversial that I had to read it. My interest in cholesterol and fats came from the fact that a while ago I found coconut oil in a health shop and thought that I should only use it on my skin as I believed that saturated fats were very bad for your health. Then Bill from the Philippines suggested I start cooking with it but I needed to read more about the subject before adding it to our daily menu. Cholesterol is a subject I knew nothing about although I know that mine is on the high side. The only thing you usually hear about it is that it is something bad which will shorten your life, something to be afraid of. Well, in the meanwhile I know that this is not true especially for me as a woman.
I find it a pity that this book is badly edited. Even if the author had to publish it on a small budget maybe a friend could have had a look through... but the message is there! At times all the studies were a bit much for me but I can't say that they are not interesting. What I found very weird, coming from a country considered Mediterranean was the Mediterranean diet used in one of the studies which included margarine made with rapeseed oil while everybody knows that in Mediterranean countries people cook mostly with olive oil. And also the fact that people were encouraged to eat poultry instead of pork. People in Mediterranean countries do eat quite a bit of pork, beef and lam.... this goes to show that these studies are often based on errors and therefore their conclusions can't be taken seriously!
I can't agree with the author when he says that many people realize that statins are toxic. I know quite a few elderly people on statins or similar drugs who show all the symptoms of their side effects but who have no idea of what is going on. Very sad that our health is used for financial gain and not many doctors seem to care about what happens to us. Weather we live a miserable life or die it doesn't matter, we are just a statistic and a way to get rich even quicker!
This book demystifies a lot of concepts which exist in our society about the dangers (or not) of cholesterol and the author, having done a thorough research, presents his point of view in a scientific way. He also explains thoroughly how studies are misinterpreted in order to fit the directors' goals and how badly studies often are set up. He is also very clear about the financial links between the directors' and the pharmaceutical industry who as a rule finance the whole thing anyway.
Too bad that people are still being misled but then aren't we being misled on a lot of important subjects anyway? I want to read more about the use of coconut oil and the benefits for one's health but for the time being I am convinced that we have made the right choice and I don't think that I will let any doctor lower my cholesterol! After all women with higher cholesterol seem to be the ones who live the longest! But... wouldn't it be wonderful to be able to go to your doctor and be able to trust him with your wellbeing instead of having to dig around and try to find the truth yourself?"
06/22/2010: Gtcharlie from La, Ca, Usa replies: "If you'd search "statin-induced neuropathy" on the web and you'll be amazed at how many people are suffering from this statin drug. I am one of the victims by this big Pharma scam! Most of us suffer debilitating pains in our lower bodies plus other symtoms due to the damage caused by statins on our peripherol nurvous systems. This disease can hit some patients even after they stopped their statins for four years! Sadly, it is not reversable and so far, there is no cure! A former NASA medical doctor, spoke from his own experience, said:"Don't waste your time and money, just take as much CoQ10 as you can afford!".
So beware! Those who are being advised to take statins by your doctors should pay close attention to your body reactions. The best thing is to evaluate yourself if it is reallly benefitial to you. Is cloresterol as bad as they claim? Search the web and you'll find many infos that might shock you! It was too late for me! Cholesterol has been distorted by the big Pharma for they can benefit big time in it - worldwide sales of statins is over $160 billion annually. But to those who suffer this so called side effects from the statins everyday, it is a killing drug! Many healthy people became sick and a few died from this drug! I don't know how much incentive my doctor who prescribed me the statins had received, but I wish him and those who push the statins to burn in hell!
PS - I wonder if EC would open a new link on this topic? I am sure I am not the only victim of statins over here! Ironically, if I didn't suffer from this thing, I would'nt be connected to this wonderful website! Thank you, EC!"
EC: Thanks for the suggestion. Your reply has been cross-posted to the newly created page: http://earthclinic.com/CURES/statin-induced-neuropathy.html
06/22/2010: Tom from Regina, Sk replies: "Francisca:
On the subject of the cholesterol scare/scam, after decades of misdirection, lies and propaganda there have now been many scientific studies that show that it is only the level of oxidized cholesterol in the blood that is related to cardiovas diseases.
The simplest fact to take in is that it was also very well known for decades that if you look at a statistical bell curve of cholesterol levels in the population, there are just as many heart attacks and CVD in people on the left of the median as those whose cholesterol puts them on the right of that median!
There is a new book out 2008, rather small at 78 pages, which documents the dangerous oxidative damage cholesterol undergoes when it comes in contact with chlorine in the blood from chlorinated water either drunk or showered in and thus absorbed via the lungs. The chlorine gas is in no way similar in its toxic effects to the normally present harmless reduced chloride ion Cl-, ubiquitous throughout the body.
"Coronaries, Cholesterol, Chlorine" by Dr. Joseph Price, any bookstore."

Total Cholesterol 234, HDL 86, LDL 131, Triglycerides 83, Fasting blood glucose 96. While my overall cholesterol did increase from last year's 182, my HDL was much higher than last year's 60. LDL also increased from last year's 102. I am extremely pleased with these results since the all important ratio (Total/HDL) decreased from 3.0 to 2.7. Finally, I have also found it amazing that I have not had a cold or any illness during this time. In the past, I would normally get some kind of sore throat or cold during the winter months. It is an excellent culinary herb for fat reduction. Curry leaf not only makes a dish palatable but also adds flavour and nourishment too. Almost every part of the plant, its leaves, the root, bark, petals and fruits are all made use of either in cooking or medicinal purposes. Spicy curry leaves porridge is useful in the control of health problems. Even if stung by a snake, curry leaves porridge is commonly given to remove poison. DIETARY CHANGES

[YEA] 06/19/2011: Linda from Alpharetta, Ga writes: "I had extremely high Cholesterol all my life. My parents and grandparents had high cholesterol all their lifes. I even had extremely high cholesterol during the 3 years I lived completely vegan, no animal products at all. I blamed it on genetics and stress. For 2 years now my cholesterol is completely normal, since I changed my diet after I read about the South beach diet. For me even whole grain bread makes my Cholesterol go up again, which is for me the evidence that starch is the culprit for high cholesterol.
I eat now lots of mixed salads with lots of lettuce, and veggies, I eat 3 times a day protein in form of eggs, goat milk, goat/sheep cheese and meat (chicken, beef, lamb, fish, but no pork). I eat pretty much all veggies raw or steamed with fresh herbs and flax seed oil or coconut oil or as a soup. I eat not more than max 2 cups of fruit per day, because I think the sugar in fruit caused my high cholesterol during my vegan time and caused problems with blood sugar and pancreas.
I completely avoid everything with starches, esp. Bread, noodles, rice, deserts and everything with sugar. I do eat once in a while steamed potatoes or fresh corn on the cobb or a bean dish.
I use Stevia to sweeten my milk shakes which I make with a few strawberries, blueberries and goat milk since I get sinusitis and gain weight from cow milk.
I do make my salad dressings with ACV and flax seed oil (refrigerated) and Herbamare, a salt herb mix. I do not restrict my fat intake, but I don't use butter, or whipped cream, but quite a bit flax seed oil and coconut oil. I also take baking soda 2x a day in water.
Now my blood pressure, my cholesterol and my weight are perfect."

[YEA] 02/01/2010: Robert Henry from Ten Mile, Tn Usa writes: "Hi Ya'll doin,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
Thought I had the bull by the tail on a down hill drag, but it appears that is not the case. As a few of you know, I have been a reader and a contributor for a couple of years. I was late at this health stuff but hit it hard for the last five years.
At 73, I and having and anti aging doctor and a chelation doctor, I decided to go get a jowl lift soes I could match up with my good lookin spouse of 50 years. At my age the anastegeologist was nervous and and wanted to do another
EKG. It was not good, and they shut down the procedure and shipped me off to a cardiologist. This guy is gov approved.
He said he had not been sued in 32 years because he only does what the AMA approves. It pissed him off that I had
been referred by a high dollar cosmetic surgeon who was going to make me pretty. It pissed him off that I had been doing Chelation so I did not have to mess with his type. He gave me a lecture on why we should just age normally and not let an anti aging Doctor modify our hormones and blood work soes we don't get all these old age diseases. He then proceeded to give me a satin drug for Cholesterol without blood work nor asking me what my tests were. How 'bout that for science ? My Cholesterol is 156 with a 57 HDL and a 99 LDL. Tests that most 73 year olds would pray for.
I went back to my Chelation Doctor, a Thoracic Surgeon, who got tired of cutting off folks arms and legs in the early 90's and found chelation. I am back into EDTA Chelation. In my group last Thursday, I asked who they were using as a cardiologist? None........ done done that and the procedures only lasted a few years. This is by-pass and stints, etc.
They rely on chelation to keep them perkin.
Anyways, I's searching Earth Clinic for any help. Know to do Magnesium, ACV, Cayenne and breathing stuff. Just know that most doctors are only interested in their next vacation trip to Europe."
