[YEA] Tess from Qatar writes: "I had been using nasal rinse for the past 3 weeks and I have been noticing that my bad breath has been reducing. I encourage everyone who is having bad breath from nose and mouth, to do the nasal rinse and see. I'm on the 3rd week now and I can see a lot of improvement. I am doing it 2 times daily.

Laura30 from Newcastle, United Kingdom writes: "Hi everyone. I suffered from halitosis all my life and totally sympathize with all of you. My halitosis was chronic but my dentist repeatedly told me my teeth were great and there were no problems (I'm 23 and only have one filling). After much online research, I realized the sad fact that some people simply are born with more bacteria on the back of the tongue and regular brushing, flossing and using various mouthwashes is a temporary cover-up and fails to deal with the VSC's on the back of the tongue. I used to use Retardex from Boots which is effective for a few hours. However, it is not a permanent solution for someone with a chronic condition (and hellishly expensive). I now use Profresh which has completely eliminated my problem: read the independent laboratory report and the white paper research. This product is patented in the US which means that no other company can manufacture a product that contains the same ingredients that are 99.9% effective against halitosis. I won't babble on about how the product works etc as you can see for yourself on the website.

Although my doctor and dentist are fantastic, unfortunately professionals are light years behind when it comes to halitosis. My doctor once told me to brush my tongue with listerine!!!! I couldn't believe it. Didn't he know I'd spent hundreds of pounds on products and had that morning spent no less an hour and 15 mins obsessively brushing, scraping, flossing, swilling etc etc etc. That's all a thing of the past now thank goodness. Thanks to this product I now have fresh breath 24 hours a day. I hope this info helps but I must stress that this product is only effective for those who have chronic halitosis which is not attributable to sinus problems, post-nasal drip etc. This will only work for those where halitosis originates from the mouth, despite having no significant dental problems. Unfortunately, some of us are just born producing more bacteria than others.

In terms of cost, I used to spend £30-£40 a week on Retardex products (hard to believe I know). A bottle of mouthwash was around £7 ish but I used to go through it very quickly. With Profresh I buy it in bulk. I get 13 bottles each lasting 17 days each, twice a year. I usually pay around £120 but Profresh is now shipped from London instead of the States which will eliminate pesky shipping charges the next time I order. So I would say you can expect to pay £200 a year for your supplies (to me it's like liquid gold so price is irrelevant). I would love to hear from someone that they had cured their problem because of this post so please report back with any success stories. You're probably skeptical (like I was) but I guarantee that if you have the same type of halitosis like me it will work. Please be aware folks that when people that say bad breath sufferers have poor oral hygiene they couldn't be more wrong! In fact, we probably have better oral habits than most since we're constantly brushing etc.

Also, don't listen to those who will cockily reply 'well brush your teeth' or 'chew gum or suck on a mint'. As we long-term sufferers know, such measures are useless and sometimes sugary mints can make our breath worse! I appreciate it will be difficult for those with normal breath to understand this as they simply brush their twice once and they have fresh breath all day. But just remember that for others, fresh breath is something that they can only dream of. Good luck everyone. Laura

Seema from London, Uk writes: "Hello Akbor,

I read your dilemma and was compelled to write. I myself have suffered for as far back as I can remember. 20 yrs or so. I am now finally Bad breath free. I also had problems with flatulence and body odour - and I'm a woman. How shameful do you think that was for me??!! Yes I had tried everything for all my probs, yes I too felt suicidal at times. I came to control my gas and BO but the most distressing was BB. All the expensive mouthwashes had failed me. After spending hours on the internet while hubby was away on business I came across apple cider vinegar. I took a couple of tsps before every meal and amazingly my breath and gas was better. Well gas was non-existent because of this and even I started sleeping better. I am so thankful for this board, ACV has really sorted out all my problems it seems years of lack of digestive enzymes was the cause of my problems, I even now take probiotics which again helped the breath but never 100%. I know what i;m about to write will sound sooooooo stuuuuuupid but unless you have some thing really internally not right or perhaps are really overly Lactose intolerant (as this means that undigseted lactose gets into intestines and beacuase body cannot break it down it is exhaled in the breath and hydrogen in breath STINKS, but even that is quite temporary) it really is all about the mouth. NOw let me say I brusha nd brush and brush and then use mouthwash and the smell wiuld be back like within minutes. I really believed I had the best oral hygiene.

However when I started flossing my breath every nook and cranny in my mouth by bad breath just disappeared. I'm assuming that you may have tried this but if yiu havent pls do try it. I realise now that becasue my teeth are so tightly packed right next to one another I assumed I didnt need to floss, but that was exactly the cause of my problem now to think I had never flossed since I had my adult teeth sounds just insane no but I really thought brushing and mouthwash would be enough. I can now actually get confidently close to people without the sniggering and enjoy kissing my husband. I wish you well.

[YEA] Naiveburrito from Lincoln, Ne writes: "I have had bad breath starting around age 12. It's nothing that's stopping me from having a social life, but, gum has been offered... And sometimes you can just tell. I had strep many times as a kid, and have always had huge tonsils and sinus issues incluing post-nasal drip. It took me awhile to figure out that brushing my teeth wasn't sufficient. A doctor told me I had tonsil stones when I was 18. I read somewhere that a way to see if you had bad breath was to lick your hand and smell it after 30 seconds. I tried that and there was no smell, so I knew it wasn't in my mouth. I had an epiphany and touched the back of my tonsil, and my finger reeked like rotten egg/sulfuric/sickly sweet/salty??? crap.

What I have tried:

Hydrogen Peroxide: Works great on the short term as a substitute for mouthwash. Not a long term solution.

Apple Cider Vinegar: I felt like it freshened things up, but the effects seemed to diminish over time.

Grapefruit seed extract: same as ACV.

I spent hours digging around in my tonsils, but they still smelled bad. There is a deep crypt behind my left tonsil that seems to be the trouble spot.
I bought a neti pot, which really does the trick, but only for 3-4 hours.

One day I bought some colloidal silver. I gargled with it, and it seemed to help. Then, I decided to shoot it up my nose with a dental syringe. I leaned over the sink and slowly shot a stream up, and bent my head over so that it could 'penetrate the sinuses'. It worked better than anything I had tried before!

I got a little paranoid reading about colloidal silver online, and didn't want to overdo it. So, I decided to break out the old Grapefruit seed extract. Success!
I dilute it and shoot it up the nose with the syringe. It really clears things out. I have been doing this for about 2 weeks and realize I am no longer conscious of a gross taste in my throat. When I touch my tonsil, my finger doesn't smell. GRAPEFRUIT SEED EXTRACT UP THE NOSE! I still use the silver sometimes, but usually just once a week. Needless to say I am pretty happy about this. Give it a try if you think your halitosis is sinus related.

[YEA] Zekia from Chicago, Il writes: "I've had really bad breath for a decade and no one told me... Until my mother. I did a great deal of research on the subject. My Bad breath and gum disease is gone!

1. Buy: Organic coconut oil. Apple cider vinegar. Baking soda, peroxide and soft toothbrush.

2. In the morning, brush teeth with baking soda, then rise with baking soda and peroxide. I squirt a little peroxide into a 1/4 of water. I rinse for 2 minutes and spit it out. Then get a teaspoon of organic coconut oil and swish around your mouth for 10 to 15 minutes. This will pull toxins from your body and mouth.

3. Do all of this twice daily for a week or so. Your month will feel brand new and the stuff from under your gums will fallout and the gums will heal.

4. Drink two 8 ozs. glasses of water with one tablespoon of Apple Cider Vinegar. One early and one later in the day. This will further kill bacteria in the body.

5. Most importantly, change your diet. Eat organic fruits and veggies and green juices. Drop kick dairy, sugar, meat and processed foods. In three days you will feel brand new.

6. Take 5,000 units of D3 daily, Omega 6 and B12. You will become a new person... In less than a week. I guarantee.

Hope this helps!

Curesearcher from New York, Ny, Us writes: "I have been following advice and posts on earthclinic with enthusiasm and can report to have achieved minor improvements to my condition following them.

I've researched a lot and am overwhelmed by the amount of information. In a nutshell though: I'm trying to find the underlying health issue causing my Halitosis. I am about to try various remedies but am afraid of harming myself doing so. My problem is finding my underlying issue: Your help is imensly appreciated.

SYMPTOMS:

I am 34 years old male caucasian, symptoms started since late childhood, intesnified in teen age: white coated tongue, bad breath, scalp psoriasis and minor fungus on one toenail, slighty slower digestion, fatigue, drowsyness, concentration problems. I assume they are all connected somehow? The most frustrating issues though is the bad breath because of its grave social implications. The odors emitted can be off all kinds, usually of body by products: urin, gas, fecal, sweat, wet dog etc.... My halitosis is not very grave generally but can get very intense at times. Stress, alcohol, food obviously worsens it but I have never been able to pin point it to one specific cause or causes. Surprizingly at times when I am living the healthiest, e. G. Eating and exercising it might actually get worse and vice versa. It is most definitely a huge problem for me socially and with work, trust me.

At the moment I believe my symptoms might be attributed to all of these below (or just one or none?):

THYROID, DIGESTIVE, PH IMBALANCE, YEAST/CANDIDA or maybe just WHITE TONGUE/HALITOSIS?

My problem in pinpointing my illness is that I have symptoms of many of these ailments, but none severe enough to make it obvious. I want to try various remedies but don't want to harm myself doing so. And strangely enough I am healthy in other aspects: Digestion most of the time is regular with no problems, skins great, hair healthy (scalp psoriasis aside), physically active and I am overall very young looking for my age.

Most contradicting is the following: I've been on a multi enzyme with Betaine HCL 400mg for three days. I got burning sensation from it meaning I have enough stomach acid? PH is fine? So how can I have a coated tongue and BB then if digestions apparently fine?

Is it thyroid problem? I can eat very big quantities of high caloric foods with hardly any weight gain.

Also something that could be an indication: I look very young for my age and did so since my early teens and it took me very long to fully go into puberty. (my mom has minor thyroid issues) Thyroid deficiency?

I PRACTICE THESE FOLLOWING REMEDIES:

(for the record I used to do Thera Breath, got antibiotics form BB doctor a year ago no result. Then cholrhexedine mouthwash that worked but chemicals! I got off it two weeks ago)

Usual routine: tongue scrape and tooth brush

Since two weeks:

ACV bicarb routine, OP with coconut oil in the morning, taking oil of oregano diluted in water and under tongue. Im taking Magnesium citrate, potassium citrate, B-complex, multivitamin.

Since one week:

7 day Detox program
No yeast carb diet.
Taking a pre/probiotic with anti yeast properties called 'Syntol' and a no carb/yeast diet based on protein and vegtables.

(I've had good results with these treatments so far even if the detox is exhausting. My tongue cleared up 40% but still generallywhite most in the back! )

Want to Start: Potassium Iodide ( Selenium & l-thyromine) and/or Niacin and/or Sodium Chlorite 28%.

I want to start/am trying all these various remedies but am afraid of harming myself doing so. My problem is finding my underlying issue.

Your advice is greatly appreciated, THX!

Yusuf from Leicester, England writes: "Hello, I recently stumbled upon this website and I have to say it is a god send for me, so much information about natural cures, a Big Thank You to all the posts, keep it up, you don't realise how many people your helping.

The question I'd like to ask is I recently started using Apple Cider Vinegar as a mouthwash and every time this brown speckles, sometimes like thick mucous thing (sorry only way I can think of describing it) comes out, anyone know what it is?

I recently read that some lemon or lime juice with 3x rose water, so 1/4 lemon juice, 3/4 rose water is very good for bad breath elimination, it kills all the bad bacteria and it makes your breath smell fresh, I read it in a herbal book but never tried it myself, so anyone that does, let me know if it works.

I'd greatly appreciate if someone can answer my question for me.

Thank you and keep up the good work.

[YEA] Noel G. from Riyadh, Saudi Arabia writes: "I suffered from halitosis for 20 years. It is intermittent due to my sinusitis and post nasal drips. Everytime I have symptoms like asthma and cough I usually consult our employee health department, luckily Im working in government hospital I can easily get those medicines. However post nasal drips and halitosis persisted despite of antibiotics, this makes me frustrated. I started to research hydrogen peroxide with silver colloidal silver we used in the hospital to disinfect ICUs frequently touch items. We use this solution due to Acinotobacter baumanni which is hard to kill with other disinfectant. Our disinfectant is made in Belgium called Bioxeco. Furthermore I read alot of aricles that one sources of halitosis is due to anearobic bateria and H202 prevents the growth of it.

I dilluted the stock solution of 5%H2O2 with colloidal silver to 3% by (6ml of H202 solution 4 ml of distilled water = 3%).

Procedure to clean mouth with solution.

1, Brush teeth with branded toothpaste. Dont rinse.

2. Wash the toothbrush with tap water.

3. Pour 10 ml of 3% H2O2 (any volume will do) in cup.

3. Wet the toothbrush with H202 and start brushing teeth, palate of mouth and tongue for several minutes.

4. Use the remaining solution for rinsing.

My halitosis is gone after the brushing. I checked by licking the back of my hand and smell it. I dont smell anything unlike before it smells bad.

I also begun inhaling 3% H202 with colloidal silver for post nasal drips and sinusitis for 10 days now but post nasal drips did not stop. Furthermore I started drinking ACV using the recommended dosage published in this site for 4 days now and hoping to get a positive result after 2 weeks or more. I will soon update my situation.

Finally, I am so thankful for this site. It helps me alot and the anecdotal research is worthful to consider. I believe that some of the remedies may or may not work for others, but for sure those individuals that doesnt exerperience changes may have underlying serious conditions that must be given attention. Such as one person form Bangladesh having white patches in toungue. He must perform various serological procedures that may confirm his conditions. Maybe he can do his research by surfing ( white are the underlying disease with white patches on tongue)

Lucas from Nyc, Ny, Usa writes: "Hello, I need help!!!! :)
I am suffering of fecal bad breath for about 13years. I have seen 10-15dentist, they all say I have healthy gum and nice teeth. They have done and redone some fillings through the years, I wash my teeth 3-4x a day, floss, scrape my tongue, mouthwash, I've excellent oral hygiene, just like most of the BB sufferers:)I went to a halitosis specialist, he treated me for Volatile Sulfur Compounds (VSC's), but unfortunately that wasn't the source of my bb. All it did dried my mouth so bad, that I was constantly drinking water, otherwise I never had dry mouth. Then I went to see a GI doc, she did Barium X-ray, Endoscopy, all they found was H pylori, which was treated with antibiotics but everything else was normal and negative. By the way the H pylori stool test came back negative, but I insisted the endoscopy and the doc saw mild inflammation on my stomach lining. I know a lot of ppl had positive results while on antibiotics or with the eradication of the H pylori not for me:( not even for 1 day.)

Then I had Paranasal Sinuses X ray... Came back negative, then saw an ENT doctor, who said evthg looks normal. I never had sinuses, tonsillitis, stones, ear or throat infection, he recommended to remove my glands, which I'm hesitating, since I never had problem with it. Neither any kind of problems with my stomach, other than I only have one bowel movement a day, sometimes I feel constipated, but I have at least 6 times a week, which doctors say considers normal. The only change while I was on antibiotics that I had 2x a day, I was shocked how much came out of me (sorry, not trying to disgust anyone, just maybe some of u had similar problems)
I eat very healthy, I'm 5'7 and 118lbs, I exercise, take vitamin, probiotics, digestive enzymes, drink a lot of water, no soda, don't smoke, drink socially. I tried to cut off sugar, yeasts, coffee, I tried for weeks, nothing has changed. The GI doc said I do not have candida overgrowth. I am so determined to find the source of my BB after all these years, I can't understand how my bfriend can handle me, he never tells me anthg other than did u fart once in couple of months, my friends neither, no one said anthg never, so I assume it can only be smelled from close, I can't smell it, only on the subway when I stand under the AC and blows this shitty smell right back on me (happened many times, so I know that's my smell :((((( And off course all the doctors said they don't smell anthg, expect the halitosis doc since the halimeter measured way above bad breath...
Anyhow the GI doc is giving up on me, saying I'm totally healthy, there are no other tests she could do. I am trying to convince her to do the intestinal bacterial overgrowth and food intolerance- even though I dont have any symptoms, no pain, or bloating... Can anyone recommend anything else? Shuold I have my glands removed? Sorry for the long post and thanks for any advice, tip, comment. Please ignore my mistakes, English is my 2nd language :)

Thanks again:)

[YEA] Maria from Miami, Florida writes: "Hello, I am a Dentist from Venezuela and a Registered Dental Hygienist in Florida. Along more than 18 years of dental practice and experience dedicated mostly to the Dental Hygiene area I have become to learn that there are several causes for bad breath or "Alitosis" like dry mouth, stomach problems, cavities, etc but the MAIN cause of this condition is "LACK OF DAILY FLOSSING". Most of the people who suffer from this condition just DON'T floss. When you don't floss ALL contacts between ALL your teeth, plaque builds up under your gums and between your teeth, in less than 8 hours this plaque becomes BACTERIA and of course, with time if not removed properly, it turns into hard deposits of tartar. This is a chronic process. Lack of flossing can also led other type of health problems that can affect vital organs like the heart, kidneys, lungs, uterus, ovaries, etc."

Louise from Chicago, Il writes: "After about 10 years of chronic halitosis I have finally been cured. I am a healthy 36 year old female but had halitosis no matter what I did. I wanted to get to the root of my problem so I tried oral hygiene. I brushed, cleaned with baking soda, vinegar, various mouth washes. Nothing worked. I then was seen by a ear, nose, throat doctor. I was told I had post nasal drip that could be the cause. After I used a neti pot to clear my nose for weeks with saline, I still continued to have bad breath. I next tried eating different foods, I tried about 10 different diets from gluten free to vegetarian. Nothing worked.

I finally went to a GI doctor. After some testing I was diagnosed with H Pylori, a bacteria in my intestinal lining. It is very common. About half of the world has it!! I have been on a triple antibiotic treatment for it for 3 days now and my halitosis disappeared after the first day! It's a miracle. This could be the source of halitosis for most people and they aren't even aware of it. Yogurt, probiotics, mint, etc, are just temporary cover ups for a long term problem that needs serious treatment.

[YEA] Janne from Philadelphia, Pa writes: "I like many others on his site have suffered with bad breath for many many years, spent countless dollars on products for relief. I've suffered the humiliation of watching people's reaction when I speak. I've been to doctors and dentists to get help but nothing worked until I decided to attack the problem from three different angles- nasal, oral, and digestive.

Here's how I control it:

In the morning 20 minutes before eatting breakfast I take 3-4 Digestion Enzyme capsules. This aides in breaking down protein, milk, and other hard to digest foods that you eat thru out the day or food that might lay in your digestive track. Then I take 3-5 Probiotics with my breakfast. Purchase a bottle containing 12-15 billion cells per capsule with 8 or more different strains such as Lactobacillus and Bifidobacterium- read the label. I use Udo's Choice-Adult's Probiotic -$19. 99 from Whole Foods (or you can purchase on line. ) A lot of probiotic formulas only contain 1 billion cells per capsule this is not strong enough. This is the healthy bacteria found in yogurt. (Eatting small amounts of yogurt daily will not have the same effect you would have to eat a ton of yogurt). Probiotics loads the small & large intestines with healthy bacteria. Our chicken & dairy products are loaded with antibiotics that weaken the immune system killing good and bad bacteria. We are eatting antibiotics daily which is too much. Eventually the bad bacteria take over causing bad breath and other health problems. Everyone needs to take Probiotics daily even children.

The first morning after taking the Probiotic I noticed that my morning foul breath was gone. A little bad breath in the morning is natural. Most times bad breath comes from the digestive track from decayed undigested food and constipation. If you are constipated make a fruit smoothie in the morning. Leave a reply and I will give you an eazy recipe that I make every morning for myself!

Next I use my Netti Pot for my sinuses 3-5 times a week. I have Chronic Sinunitis. (If you don't have sinus trouble or tonsil stones you don't need to do this step). For the rest of us this helps clear up those smelly tonsil stones in the back of the throat. I use warm water with sea salt, a little baking soda and a few drops of Peroxide. I hope this helps you as much as it has helped me and I wanted to share. I hope this cures you too! Good health to you!

[YEA] Jac from Houston, Tx writes: "I developed tonsillitis about 2 months ago, right as the seasons changed, and with it came 2 cases of tonsil stones. After the second one came out- which I gargled with HP to get out- I was left with breath that still smelled like I had them. I couldn't see any in the back of my throat and without a water pick I know I would never be able to get them out but I had to do something because I could not stand the smell. I brushed with my regular toothpaste and added a drop of Tea Tree Oil. My breath and teeth felt instantly fresher. Then I swirled my toothpaste in a mixture of water, sea salt, and a capful of ACV and brush my tongue with it. Then I gargled with the remaining mixture. My bad breath is gone. The oil keeps it fresh all day. To get back my pink tongue I oil pull when I first wake up. It also helps my breath and makes my teeth shiny."

[YEA] Gayle from Germantown, Md,usa writes: "I had my bad breath off and on for almost 24 years now and I tried all kinds of remedies but it comes back every now and then. I surf thru the internet last week and found liquid chlorophyll as one of the remedies of any body odor. So I tried it last night taking 1 tbsp after brushing my teeth and when I woke up ask my son to smell my breath and he was amazed that it doesn't have any smell at all. I hope this is it and I thank God for giving me this product which may be the final solution to my problem. I hope this will help you. Also I started taking primadophilus once a day but I think the one that really help me is the liquid chlorophyll. You just have to be careful because it stains in your clothes. It has a green color."

Alfred from Bangkok, Thailand writes: "INFO.. GOOD FOR EVERYONE.

"Deep breathing saturates the blood with oxygen. These oxygen-laden red blood cells carry a negative electrical charge. The blood actually moves thru the body electrically. This is how and why blood is able to go thru the entire body so quickly.. Three quarts of blood goes through our capillaries every sixty seconds.. That is why it is important to breath deeply for 5 min. Every day."
