Apple Cider Vinegar for High Blood Pressure
Folk Cure Ingredients
- Apple Cider Vinegar - 1 Teaspoon
Taking the ACV tonic 2-3 times a day can significantly lower your blood pressure. Start with one teaspoon of apple cider vinegar in a large glass of water and build up to one or two tablespoons. Add honey or other natural sweetener for taste.
[YEA] 07/22/2009: Susan from Santa Clarita, CA: "A few months ago I went to the doctor for my annual physical. I was shocked to find out my blood pressure was 146/90. I am not overweight and eat a vegetarian diet. My doctor immediately wanted me to start me taking BP medication, which I refused to do. I found this site and started on the ___ACV; 2 tbs in water 3x day. By the next day my bp was 120/80. I went back for a follow up visit to my doctor a few months later and my BP was still 120/80. When I told the doctor why it was normal, she totally dismissed the idea, and said it "must have been some diet change", which it wasn't. I don't really care what she or the medical establishment think, I know it works. I now only take 2 tbs in water once a day and been able to maintain a normal BP. Thank you Earth Clinic!"Replies

11/08/2011: Rose from Psl, Fl replies: "Forgot to say one thing whenever my BP is high my right eye is blood-shot very bad. The Dr first said it was high cholesterol causing it when it didn't go away he said it was my BP and gave me BP meds... I have tried every natural remedy I can find and still have the problem. Really thought alkalizing my system would fix all the problems. Only thing I can say is I lost a lot of weight. No health insurance... Just want to be well."
[NAY] 07/10/2009: Ron from Roland, Oklahoma: "Greetings:
I am rather perplexed by the use of ACV. I have been taking an ounce a day for three years now. I've read where it has helped many people with regulating their blood pressure. I have been using the "most popular brand" of ACV which I purchase at a local health food store. To my dismay, my blood pressure runs around 150/100.
I am 6'2", 270 pounds, mostly muscular in build, don't drink alcohol, don't smoke, eat normal 2000 calorie/day diet, work in a relatively stree free environment, no kids, great marriage, take a variety of vitamins/minerals such as: Vitamins A,C,B-complex, Hawthorne, garlic, cayenne pepper, cinammon and a multiple vitamin for the trace elements. I also take a prescription medication for my BP. Yet, my blood pressure still runs high.
If you would be courteous enough to email me a respone and give me your opinion as to what I may be doing wrong to control my blood pressure, I would truly appreciate it!
07/22/2009: Noels from Wolverhampton, UK replies: "Hi Ron. Have just read your request for more info regarding the ACV dose. You say you have been taking 1oz per day! 1oz=2 tablespoons. The recommended dose to start with is 2 tablespoons in an 8oz glass of water with a teaspoonful of honey to make it more palatable 3 times per day. This is what I took to get my BP down and then on to the maintenance dose of 2 teaspoonsful in 8oz water 3 times a day. It worked form my BP is now around 120/79. Hope this helps. Noels"
11/07/2009: Joe from Red Bank, New Jersey replies: "DO you have anger management issues? Also, you say normal diet. The typical American "normal" diet is a terrible one. I'm guessing you may need to add more greens to your diet. Specifically green juices if you can...they work wonders on your blood pressure."
08/03/2010: Kat from Los Angeles, Ca replies: "I doubt you have anger managment issues if you have a basic stressfree life; however, diet is everything. Make an appointment with a nutritionist, and remove all processed food from your diet, no canned food, no boxed food and certainly - no fast food of any kind - seriously. This will reduce your salt intake considerably. Also do not salt the food you cook until it's gets to your plate. Your taste buds will hate you for about a month but once you get used to no salt - you will never go back!"
07/27/2011: George from Andover, Kansas replies: "Hi Ron, If for some reason ACV doesn't work after some adjustments as suggested check out the latest studies on Beetroot juice from England. I know this is an ACV blog but beetroot juice is natural and I hope thats what everyone is after -something that works and is natural-good luck."
[BETTER BUT NOT CURED] 07/10/2009: Marve;Gor; from Cleveland, Ohio: "ACV and HBP: I have been dizzy for two days and not sure why. I took ACV and got temporary relief. I went to the Urgent Care due to no hospitalization and had BP taken 138/80. Nurse said it was normal, only my lower number has never been higher than 70. In the morning I drank some ACV in water and felt OK then went about my day. Around 4:30 p.m. Dizziness got worse and I almost passed out. Just barely made it home driving about 4 miles. After lying down for about an hour I took more vinegar and now I feel better. I guess it works. I will continue until I see my Natural medicine professional. Thank you for the confirmation. Any comments are welcome."Replies
07/13/2009: Jarocho2003 from San Diego, CA replies: "You could also be suffering from vertigo, which could be due to anxiety or stress? Check the section for vertigo and stress anxiety to see what else you can be taken."
07/13/2009: Jeanne from Raleigh, NC replies: "I have had diziness issues as well as a racing heart and I think they have to do with reaction to food or drink. I have yet to figure out what food or artificial flavor or preservative it is that causes the diziness but am starting to narrow it down. What helps me is to eat animal protein like chicken or turkey in large amounts. It takes 1-2 days to get over the diziness, but I feel better."
08/30/2009: Dennis from Port Saint Lucie, Fl replies: "I would like to comment on the dizziness with BP. I know that headaches are my first line symptom that my BP is up. However when I stabilize my BP and still have headaches or get dizzy then I know that it is time to change my prescrition glasses. I wear the progressive bifocal lens. I have read other comments and I am more or less satisfied but no one has mentioned checking your vision. I do not know if you wear glasses or not but an eye examination can tell you a lot about your health. Good luck"
09/23/2009: Pamm from Alabaster, Alabama replies: "The main reason people get relief from Apple Cider Vinegar because it has Potassium in it. Potassium is what regulates our blood pressure. You may be only getting temporary relief because you need more potassium. Low Potassium can cause your dizziness, with alot of other symptoms that you need to look into. Google Low Potassium Symptoms and see if this is what your experiencing. I have been dealing with the dizziness as you for a year & I found out by going into hospital it was Low Potassium, I was drinking too much water & too much salt and in return it was lowering my potassium alot. I had bad dizzy spells. But once I eat the foods that have Potassium in it and lowered my salt somewhat I am fine now. So goodluck & take in more Potassium.."
03/03/2010: Mugs from Washington, DC replies: "It may not have been your blood pressure, ACV will lower blood sugar too, I had that problem at first, dizzy and weak after taking it, checked my blood sugar it was 67 so I ate something when I took it from then on, so check to see if it is lowering your blood sugar too much.."
[YEA] 06/23/2009: Noels from Wolverhampton, UK: "I do hope this isn't the second post by me today. Just as I was sending the first my email crashed. Anyway I'm 74 and 10yrs ago had high BP 180/120. My Doc put me on Antenolol 50mg/day which brought it down to round about 145/90. In the last 2 months I have been taking ACV maintenance dose 3xday and my BP has come down 120/89, 115/80 and yesterday 112/60 great???
Question do I still keep taking ACV, Will my BP stabilise or should I stop before it gets dangerously low?
Since taking ACV I have felt like a new person very lively and active. I also lost 4Lbs in weight and some of my hearing has returned. I wear 2 hearing aids. Any helpful comments very welcome
07/13/2009: Jarocho from San Diego, CA replies: "That sounds great Noels! How about reducing the amount of ACV you take per day? Maybe to half of what you've been taking it? You're a success story...thanks for sharing."
07/14/2009: Noels from Wolverhampton, UK replies: "Jarocho. Many thanks for your comments. I can now report that my BP has now stabilised at about 120/79 and I am still taking my ACV at the maintenance dose. Noels"
06/09/2009: Anna from Mercer, NJ: "apple cider vinegar really works! me and my husband experimented to give it a try for he has hypertension. usually his reading is 135/86 after taking his htn meds. he took the prescribed 2 tsps plus a glass of water and to our amazement, he had a reading of 120/60 for his bp and he never get that low even with htn meds. acv really does work. give it a try, it would save you from complications of medications."
[YEA] 06/08/2009: Sunsong from Mission, BC, Canada: "I started using the Earth Clinic recommended dose of ACV (with the mother) just 4 days ago. I started using it in hopes that it would help with my aches and pains, as well as with my weight. Well I'm not one to weigh myself on the scale, but i did feel a little more energetic and clearer in the mind after starting the ACV. What totally took me by surprise was when i measured my blood pressure in a drug store this morning whilst i was in town doing some shopping. It had dropped to 116/65, (and that is after walking with my heart pounding). It had consistently been 130/87 or so for the last year (it was a biochemically stressful year for me). I was going to go back on Niacin (vitamin B3) because it is so good for the cardiovascular system, but if the ACV works this good on blood pressure i am going to tell everyone i know.
I sat at the drugstore blood pressure machine shocked.......how could something work this FAST?? Then i came home and went right to the Earth Clinic website to read others stories on blood pressure and ACV. I didn't KNOW it also worked for blood pressure!!!! Two thumbs up for ACV.....WOW"
[YEA] 05/29/2009: Patrick from Nassau, Bahamas: "Well I went to the doctor for the first time in years, two days ago. They told me that my blood pressure was 140/76. I went because for the past few days I was feeling extremely tired and I got dizzy when I would stand to long or do any work. I knew something was wrong. When she told me, I kinda expected it.
I was always and active person but as of late since I got this new job it's like I'm stuck behind the desk constantly and then when I get home I have my own work to do. I am a photographer and graphic artist. And with the slow in the economy, every penny counts. My father used to have HBP, Gout and he had 2 or 3 heart attacks in his lifetime.
I took it hard when I was told I was borderline high. I wasn't prescribed anything but exercise and ease up off the fatty foods, sodas, caffeine,...... all the bad stuff. As soon as I got to my computer I started googling and came up with earthclinic.
Thanks to you guys, I went out and got the ___ [apple cider vinegar] and took 2 tbs raw before i went to bed.
Got up the next morning and felt like a new man. And now I have gotten back into my routine exercise. I haven't had no fast foods or junk for the past few days, just fruits vegetables and lean meats. No coffee tea or sodas. Just water and certain juices.
It's amazing how we wait until things happen before we take action. But YEA the ___with Mother works. After the first dose I started using the 2tsp ACV with 8oz Water and a squeeze of lemon. And it tastes good too. :)"
[BETTER BUT WITH SIDE EFFECTS] 05/27/2009: Geena from Selma, NC: "I am 46 yrs old. 2 months ago my doctor prescribed 20 mg of lisinopril for my high blood pressure (140/102 or there abouts) and increased zoloft to 150 mg/day. After my 30 day follow-up my blood pressure was 140/84. I told the dr. that I had been experiencing coughing mainly at night. She said it might be allergies and to continue with what I had been doing. Well, since that check-up coughing has gotten more consistent rather than only at night I also cough during the day and have been feeling very tired and have had tingling in my hands (not shooting up the arm, thankfully). Last week I started taking apple cidar vinegar and my bp dropped dramatically. So, this week I stopped taking the lisinopril. The tingling has gone away and the tiredness going away as well. My problem is that today my bp was 149/102 and pulse 85. I've been taking 1 TBS ACV in 8 oz. of water (2TBS made me sick to my stomach.) Are the above common side effects of lisinopril and how many TBS spoons of ACV is approrpriate per day? I assume it would be okay to spread the ACV out over the course of the day?"
06/22/2009: Kathy from Raleigh, NC replies: "You were prescibed what is known as a "pril" BP med. My suggestion is that you get a new Dr. because night coughing is a very, very common side effect of any "pril" med. They should have known that! Ask for something different if the ACV doesn't work!"
07/17/2009: Jeff from Laguna Niguel, CA replies: "I'm no expert, but I have replaced BP meds with natural remedies, but it's a common knowledge (that many don't realize) that when getting off HBP meds, you can't just abruptly stop, or the effects can back fire and suddenly, symptoms magnify. So, you need to "titrate" backwards, or cut dose a bit for a week or so, then a little more, then a little more to zero over a period of time. Mean while, you're building up the other natural ones, and exercising as much as possible. That's what's worked for me. Those side effects probably aren't that the ACV isn't working, but your body's yo-yo bounce to the sudden drop in the meds. (By the way, when you titrate backward, it's common to see a little rise in BP for some days, then it'll adjust lower. Then when you cut again, the same thing, it'll go up some, then after some days, it'll get lower still, and so forth) So, is the nature of chemical medicine. It treats symptoms only (in most cases) and not the condition or underlying problem. Hopefully the ACV, cayenne, garlic, fruits and vegetables, fresh water and plenty of exercise are actually correcting the problem, and are much more apt to cure in the slow/long run."
07/18/2009: Jim from San Francisco, CA replies: "I was alarmed that my blood pressure was 158/80 when the dentist took it. After some research, I decided to buy a _____ breathing machine and try it out. I can report such complete success that is astonishes even me. My blood pressure is now 123/75 practically throughout the entire day. It's an amazing little machine with the side effect of helping me meditate for 20 minutes in the morning. I threw out my water pills, and because of this stimulus, I am working on getting rid of all my medication and trying natural remedies for everything. Okay, I threw out my little purple pill for GERD and now am experiencing complete GERD relief with apple cider vinegar and Manuka honey. :)"
11/07/2009: Kelly from Cincinnati, Ohio replies: "could you please e-mail me at: email@example.com as to the type of breathing machine you purchased? I suffer breathing problems as well as have HBP. This is for 7/18/09 Jim from San Francisco, CA. THANKS!"
[YEA] 05/21/2009: Michele from Earlville, New York, USA: "Apple Cider vinegar and High Blood Pressure - YEA!!! Organic Apple Cider Vinegar works like a charm! One Tablespoon in eight ounces of water, three times a day. Within one day my blood pressure was down fifteen points. In three days it was down by thirty points. I'm in my mid 50's, meditate daily, I'm slender, very athletic, don't drink, don't smoke, no sugar, no caffeine, little salt (mineral sea salt only), no processed foods, all as organic and close to original as possible. Some fish, some meat, some dairy. Am taking fresh garlic, CoQ10, Calcium, Magnesium and Potassium, Omega 3's fish oil, Vit. C, E, B's, etc. Doc said I shouldn't have HBP, but went on to prescribe my first and only Rx. (I did have serious stress for the last few years.) I decided to go the natural/home remedy route first. I found STRENUOUS aerobic exercise, daily, to be the only thing to reliably make a difference, but it was exhausting. (Simple walking, gardening or cycling wasn't enough...) I found Earth Clinic's ACV reviews and gave it a try. WOW! Thank you! My guess is, that I wasn't producing enough stomach acid to process the nutrients I was taking in, properly. (Stress and adrenaline will shut down digestion, and digestive juices. This could also just be a natural aging affect or an inherited trait, too.) Anyway, I think the ACV added just enough acid to digest my food properly and especially make use of magnesium/calcium and potassium.(The holy triumvirate of blood pressure.) This is my guess... Thank you all for posting your reviews. They were most helpful. And thank you Earth Clinic! Kind regards, Michele"
05/21/2009: Fletch from Tucson, AZ: "I found this thread and needed to lower my BP just a little... So, I got some organic ACV last night .. tried 2 TBLS in 8 oz water and it was like drinking battery acid. How do you all do this???
I saw someone else ask...but didn't see an answer.. what would be the difference if you mixed up 2TBLS ACV with some Olive Oil and covered a large salad and ate it all, then chased it with 8 oz water?? It all goes in the same place (stomach) - does anyone think the effects would be different?
06/02/2009: ru2el from New York, NY, USA replies: "I wanted to answer that guy: I use 1 tablespoon of ACV w/Mother every day with 2 tablespoons of fiber (ground golden organic flax seed) and with 1 tablespoon of EVOO (extravirgin olive oil) and add lukewarm water up to 1 cup - to cleanse liver, normalize elimination process. Never had high blood pressure yet (I'm 61), but started reading this site for my husband and I think that you can use it anyway you feel is better for you - with water, with salad, whatever works. Give it a try, it is really good stuff. Be well."
06/21/2009: JB from Appleton, WI, USA replies: "Just wanted to comment on the taste of ACV... I mix the 2 tbls with 8oz of tomato juice. Tastes pretty good, and I don't think the acid in tomato juice would harm the benefits of ACV (I would think tomato juice has it's own benefits too)."
06/23/2009: MrsMcBear from Shoreline, WA, USA replies: "When I drink tomato juice or the vegetable juice that looks like tomato juice (they'll just remove the name anyway), I get horrible heartburn. Will putting ACV in it help the heartburn, or will it be like putting gasoline on a fire? And, by the way, if I am getting heartburn with the juicesw, does it mean I really DO have too much acid instead of too little and shouldn't be taking ACV at all?"
07/31/2009: Mcfive from Dallas, TX replies: "I use five drops of the herbal sweetener stevia in a glass of water with 1T ACV instead of honey. Works nicely."
10/01/2009: Pahlee from Phila, Pa replies: "MCFIVE,, WHAT EXACTLY IS STEVIA?"
EC: A natural sweetener.
10/01/2009: Pahlee from Phila, Pa replies: "Thank You for that, But where do u purchase it from? Supermarkets or the Herbal store, and can u use it like regular sugar, for cooking and baking and how is the price range"
EC: Both supermarkets and health food stores carry stevia. Look in the sugar section. It's quite popular, especially now that Coke and Pepsi have developed new colas using it at the primary sweetener!
Here's more info on Wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stevia
10/03/2009: Jacki from Portland, Or replies: "I have read alot of the comments on ACV and some talk about taking it with Mother. Can someone explain what Mother is?"
[YEA] 05/16/2009: Princess Dolly Girl from Great Falls, Montana: "Like many of you have been amazed to find how apple cider vinegar aids in lowering blood pressure, I too am happily amazed. I have had HBP for 10 years(I am 40) Almost 3 months ago I started a new BP medicine and my BP continues to get higher. I started taking tyrosine to help with mood swings and anxiety. It is working GREAT but it has started raising my BP even more. So today I went searching for something natural and ended up here. Last week my BP was 168/113. Today after I took 2 doses of 2 tablespoons of ACV in 8 oz of water with 1 teaspoon of honey my BP was 149/99. I was so hoping I would see a difference right away. I was not disappointed. Thank you all for your knowledge and the willingness to share it."
[YEA] 04/27/2009: Debra from Littleton, North Carolina: "My BP had been running around 150/90-170/90 and sometimes higher. My doc put me on BP meds.(about a year now) I started doing ACV for health purposes, I have been mixing ACV and water (4 tbsp ACV in 20 oz of water) 2-3 X's a day. I started this about a month ago. The last several days my BP was plummeting to 90/50. I started wondering what was causing this. It dawned on me maybe it is the ACV. I was taking it mainly for curbing carb cravings and weight loss. I did not know about the BP benefits. I am not advising anybody to go off meds for their BP. I have gone off mine and I will tell my Dr. about this. I also don't feel sluggish anymore. My allergies have improved greatly. My eyes are brighter. I have not seen any reduction in reduction of carb cravings or weight loss I am thrilled overall with the other benefits. I am hoping my cholesterol will also be better!"Replies
12/03/2010: Fk from New Rochelle, New York replies: "Did you just stop taking your pharma meds while taking apple cider vinegar. Can you really do that... Can it cause damage if it interferes. Don't u have to wean off BP meds before taking ACV. When u stopped taking BP meds, did u just stop? also plse answer me on email at mysticsistersny(at)aol(dot)com as sometimes can't get on site. F. [YEA] 04/15/2009: Kemel from Miami, Fl. USA: "High Blood Presure Cure: Wow I have been going nuts in the past couple of weeks, feeling light headed even strong headache and vomiting after heavy rowing/racing on saturdays. I dont like to go to doctors and i have been resisting the pill my pressure was 178/118 this morning and has been as high as 190/126. This week I have been taking garlic tablets with some improvement but not enough. After drinking ___ brand apple cider vinegar, about 1/2 inch on the bottom of a mug and two inches of water the results were as follows. I dropped 10 points in the first 25 minutes. I drank some more and went to do errands. About two hours later and after a ten minute nap I am down to 138/95 my lowest in two years. Wow! I am happy and releived. Thanks-Kemel"Replies

[YEA] 04/08/2009: Sandra from West Palm Beach, Florida: "I am taking ACV for dabetes and high blood pressure, it is working perfectly, within three days. I would like to take chlorophyll as an internal deorant. I don't want to cause a bad reaction, please let me know. I was taking a store bought apple cider it was not distill and it said it was natural. I t worked. Then I decided to get ___ ACV, what a difference, it really works. I thank God for you and this website. I read where cholorophyll is even good for diabetes. My blood pressure read 140/70, this was after a week, I had to wait til I went to the doctor. My blood sugar was noticed within two days, because I have a monitor at home. I tried oil pulling, but didn't like it, at least I tried t for a week. Please let me know something."
