That can be a dangerous side effect especially since your heart is a muscle. 1,000mg of Taurine..."

[YEA] 03/07/2008: Sharon from Soldotna, Alaska: "I am obese not from overeating, but due to stressors that I did not handle well and that caused a major stroke a year ago. Since then, I have made a major change in my diet even though I had eaten very well before without white flours, sugars and the other problem foods for many years. Now I am eating raw vegan foods and have not only finally dropped almot 40 pounds but my blood sugar levels are down to the mid-90s. I credit eating a raw food lifestyle with all this! My thyroid numbers are also in the more normal range! Lots of good changes that I believe eating a raw food lifestyle made happen."

11/27/2012: Jaype from Nha Trang, Vietnam: "Hi Ted, I have been reading most of the posts and your replies (thanks so much for sharing your knowledge, time and experience) and I will certainly give a try to some of yours suggestions (Bicarbonate citrus lime). But before I do so, I need to ask you a few more questions.
1. I recently read a lot about wheat grass. It is very popular here in Asia (Malaysia, Philippines, Thailand). But what I read about is what the companies or distributors say... of course they highly praise their product. I am 68 and since a month I have high blood pressure (up to 140-150). It's family history. I would like to know if I could really find relieve with wheat grass. (I don't mention brand names)
2. One the Google ad on this site suggests another solution: Detoxifying the liver and kidneys. Would I find relieve with this? (Again, I don't mention the name)
For the first time of my life I feel I am at a very, very important crossroad. I now need to take the right turn. To help you better understand my situation: Alcohol, although I quit reasonable taking, was surely an issue. I tried several times to lose weigh without success (now 80kg). I don't smoke and do regular biking and walking. I take one aspirin a day, and my diet is mainly fruits and vegies (I removed a lot of meat from my menu). I love extra virgin olive oil, one homemade yogurt a day and homemade bread. I don't know what else to change.
Before I decide to spend too much money with any miracle solution (grass or detox), I would like to know if what you propose (Bicarbonate citrus lime) would be sufficient in my case or whoever in a similar situation. Should I go for grass or detox?
Thanks for your precious advises, Good bless."
08/04/2012: Ann from Paradise, California: "Hello Ted, I have Lupus and just found out my kidneys are failing (rapidly). It is not because I am using cortisones and other meds, but because I have uncontrolled high blood pressure (for the last few months).
I have traditionally managed my health with natural remedies and wholesome food. Thank you for the suggestions on your site... However, I have tried the ones for blood pressure and so far it has not significantly dropped. Of everything, what natural remedies do you think are most helpful? Meds don't seem to work either.
Our drinking water is highly clorinated and I don't drink it but I do take baths (water pressure is too low for showers). I just moved here a year and a half ago. I noticed you say there can be a connection. I appreciate any advice you can give me. My kidneys are failing incredibly fast.
Thank you for helping me and so many others! Ann"
Replies08/06/2012: Timh from Louisville, Ky, Usa replies: "Ann, I also have the hypertension and kidney probs but don't seem so severe as yourself. I get good results from baking soda / epsom salt / minerals baths. Extra potassium and magnesium orally are a must. Celery is good source of potassium and lowers bp. For immediate releif try Ted's recommendation of food grade Sodium Nitrite. The amino acid Arginine produces Nitric Oxide which lowers bp. Did you try ACV???Low Dose Naltrexone LDN is recommended for Lupus, if I am not mistaken: have you tried it???
You probably have an inflammatory condition underlying all the symptoms you stated. Incorporate Pineapple, Turmeric and coldwater fish like Salmon, Mackerel, and Sardines in your diet or use these as supplements. Reduce saturated and eliminate trans fats. Eliminate refined salt from your diet and use unrefined Sea or Himalayan Salt.
For immediate relief of the kidneys I take recommended dose of D-Mannose and place a speaker Magnet over the kidney area of lower back w/ good results and also lowers bp. I have good results w/ Soloray brand Raw Kidney Glandular; this formula also contains supportive herbs as well as an homeopathic group ---i highly recommend this. Cranberry works similar to D-Mannose to kill infection in the kidneys; I feel results within minutes.
Lots more info in the "conditions" section here on E.C. Hope this helps and good luck. Hope you hear from Ted or Bill if nothing else is working for you."
08/06/2012: Elsaeasterly from Elsewhere, Ca replies: "Ann, I read on another forum a couple of years ago that lecithin is helpful for kidneys as there is a high concentration of it in those organs. A gentleman related an experience of a woman he knew that was in end-stage diabetic kidney failure, found out about lecithin, and reversed it. Someone asked him how much the woman took and he said he didn't have exact measurements but that she took it by the handsful. You can buy large tubs of lecithin granules. I hope this is helpful."
06/05/2012: Amanda from Fl: "I'm only 25 years old and have discovered while donating blood that I've recently developed hypertension and have been monitoring it at home. For the last month I have been drinking 1Tbs of apple cider vinegar with 8oz of water 3x daily. It has had no effect on my BP. I have also lost 15lbs (although I wasn't even very overweight to begin with) and completely changed my diet to match what they refer to as the DASH diet. Also, I should add I only drink one cup of coffee in the morning and water the rest of the day. I'm desperate to lower my BP before I end up on meds the rest of my life. Any suggestions?"
Replies06/05/2012: Tina from Houston, Usa replies: "Easiest and quickest way to lower high blood pressure is start your day with 16 oz of green veggie juice (organic preferred) containing celery, cucumbers, ginger, parsley and juice of 1 lemon. You can notice a change in 2-3 weeks of consuming this daily.Additionally, look here for more natural remedies including watermelon, cocoa, olive leaf extract, omega 3 fatty acids, garlic, grape seed extract and many many natural remedies to your condition.

06/09/2012: Miserable_in_bama from Oneonta, Alabama, United States replies: "to lower blood pressure, try some hawthorn berries, green tea, alpha lipoeic acid, lecithin. Brought husband's BP down and mine also. Hawthorn is an amazing heart herb. If there is blockage, it will naturally expand arteries for blood flow."
06/04/2012: Karen from Toronto, Canada: "I have a condition called Fibroidmuscular Dysplasia. (FMD) This is a condition of the arteries where a non cholesterol blockage occurs either by what is called the string of beads (which I have) and there are two other artery differences under FMD. To date the only control is angioplasts and I have had two, and maybe looking at my third one this fall. This procedure mostly occurs in the arteries going into the kidney, but can occur anywhere in the body. The symptoms are different for each location. In the kidney it results in uncontrolled high blood pressure. This affliction occurs mostly in women and usually manifests between the ages of 25-50. It can also happen before and after these ages. I am just wondering if anyone else who reads Earth Clinic is aware of FMD or has FMD and if so, have you found any natural ways of dealing with this."
12/02/2011: Val from London, United Kingdom: "My Bp is 150/110!!! The Dr has just upped my meds. I am feeling even more sick from the medicine I'm taking- valstan mixed with hyclo something. At 27 mg. I'm getting cramps in my body- it's making me feel low in my spirit. After reading this, some comments on this page, I started the CVO with lemon, I feel a little better in myself.
I live in London the only CVO I could get hole of is the aspinall organic, is this still the same as the mothers?? And can anyone come up with a natural cure for BP??????"
Replies12/02/2011: Maria from Gippsland, Australia replies: "Hi Val, Have you tried adding magnesium and potassium? Also check if you are acidic (test urine) and if so try one of Ted's alkalizing remedies. All the best."
12/02/2011: Tina from Houston, Usa replies: "1. Cantaloupes2. Raisins (soak overnight, drink the water next AM and eat the rainsins). You can do this 2 times daily but soaking the raisins for at least 12 hours is key.
3. Veggie juice of celery, cucumbers, parsley, ginger and lemon juice. (all organic if you can, especially celery).
4. Apple Cider Vinegar 2 tblspoon in 8 oz warm water 2-3 times daily between meals.
Good luck,
T"
12/02/2011: Val from London, United Kingdom replies: "This sounds interesting! I will try the raisin, don't how and why this works. I have heard of the veggie one before. I need to invest in a blender. Thanks,
Val"
12/02/2011: Val from London, United Kingdom replies: "Thanks Marie,Am new to this site, not sure what Ted's alkaline think is?? Can you tell me which food contain natural magnesium?
Val"
12/03/2011: Ash from London, United Kingdom replies: "Val,I am in London and have high BP. I was using the organic Aspinall ACV you can buy in any supermarket - it does not have the mother in it.
I then found organic ACV with mother at www.highernature.com and also on www.amazon.co.uk where several sellers sell ACV with the mother in the UK - it is a lot more expensive than the Aspinall ACV - but it it works and tastes a lot better.
Hope this helps and good luck

10/27/2011: Larry from Houston, Tx/usa: "The apple cider vinegar doesn't lower my blood pressure. I'm 160/105, please someone do you have other remedies- my doctor want put me on medicine."
Replies10/27/2011: Candy from Fort Madison, Iowa replies: "I have a couple suggestions. One would be transdermal magnesium. Just google it. There are several good brands. Another suggestion is cayenne pepper. You can go to cayenneinfo.com for that info. Hope something helps."
10/27/2011: Bodulica from Barrie, Canada replies: "Chinese use simple - celery. The recipe from the book (that apparently will lower your cholesterol, too): fresh cellery sticks juice mixed with an equal quantity of honey. Drink 40 ml. Warm juice each time, 3 times a day. (40 ml. = approx. 2 and 1/2 tbsp). My blood pressure is low. Not knowing about its medicinal propeties, I was eating fresh celery for 3 days (just one stick a day in salads, not juicing it) and feeling weaker and weaker, untill I measured my blood pressure. It was down in China!
Good luck!"
10/28/2011: Sandra from Atlanta, Ga replies: "My naturopath gave me a Chinese herb product called Gaoxieya. It is really working from me. My blood pressure was running high first thing in the morning. 130-140/90-100 range. The bottle says take 3 capsules twice a day. I only take 2 at bedtime and when I check it in the morning, it is in the 110-130/70-82 range. There was one night when I cooked 2 scrambled eggs in coconut oil with tumeric and black pepper and had a bowl of oatmeal with a fruit and nut package, with a cup of pomegranate juice and my pressure the next morning was 100/70. I was like wow. I don't know what about that particular combination but I was happy. Also, I had went walking (regular strolling, barely sweating) for about 30 minutes late that afternoon after work, then stopped to get a cup of oatmeal on the way home."
09/30/2011: See Koi from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia: "I am fed up with this condition. Tried everything under the sun, but nothing works. Why is my blood pressure always high, upwards of 150 over 100? Just a simple walk, talk, shower, drink, snack and it shoots like mad as that volcano in Indonesia. Why? Why? Why?
Strangely, for my 22 year old niece, her blood pressure does not even budge a bit but remains constant at 104 over 65, and that's after a humungous set of activities: prepare food, eat lunch, chat, joke, laugh, clean table, wash dishes and cut fruits for desert.
The heart and blood vessels can only stand shooting pressure in excess of 150/120 for a little while, before problems and death will eventually happen.
What else is there to do? Ted from Bangkok, anyone, anything...help!!"
Replies10/01/2011: Phyllis from Goshen, Indiana replies: "Obtain a book by Adelle Davis -Let's Get Well. You may find one in libraries but only can be purchased used on Amazon as they are out of print now. She was a nutritionist at John Hopkins Hospital in the 40-50's and has the best info ever. Her info has solved many of my problems over the years. She had 3-4 different titles but the one I mention above has much on high blood pressure and how it works and why. There is too much to mention here."
10/01/2011: Deedre from Campbell River, Bc, Canada replies: "Hello, I have Cerebral Palsy and take an all natural supplement called Skinny Body Care. 10/01/2011: P from Middle Of, Fl replies: "Drink lemon juice! Works for my mom. She checks her blood presure daily, if its high, she drinks it and that seems to help lower it!If that doesn't work, look into cinnamon pills, garlic pills, cayenne pepper pills. If you use them as condiments in your daily cooking perhaps you wont feel the burden of popping pills.
I make a hot drink for my son... Half coconut milk, half reg milk, spoon of cinnamon, sugar and a dab of vanilla extract. He loves it! French toast gets u cinnamon too! Load your veggies with garlic lil butter or coconut oil steam then saute them! Use sea salt instead of table salt! Use healthy oils! Wish I write down more but too many ideas. It's taken me many years of trials and errors!"
03/29/2012: John from Anasco, Puerto Rico replies: "HBP- my way: first you have to get the carbohydrates under control. Buy a copy of the Atkins diet book, that will be your bible, not your only book but the one you will compare to. Next, your breath. I bought about 10 or 12 used books on breathing and the answer is in them all only hidden away in all the bs. A few years back my bp was up (at walmarts, I don't go to the doctor much) so I decided to get back to the exercising. A walk around walmart/loews takes about 20 minutes x 3, an hour. As I was walking one day I got to thinking about the breathing thing. So I just got to doing it eazy, in-in, out-out. 1-2 3-4. At first it was hard to focus but now I can keep it going for an hour, no problema. I'm 74 and lifting (light) weights on m-w-f and walking/breathing on a threadmill an hour on t-t-s. the bp is steady at 110/115 over 60/65 with a pulse rate of 60/65. rule # 1, you got to thing for yourself. Good luck"
09/21/2011: Hilkil from Studio City, Ca, Usa: "I would so appreciate any help. My blood pressure is running out of control. 197/130. I am in my mid 40's am thin, have a healthy diet. Please do not suggest, lemon, acv, magnesium, hawthorne berry, garlic, acupuncture, cayenne pepper. I could go on and on and on. If anyone found something unique that helped please let me know. My gratitutude to all who have read this."
Replies09/21/2011: P from Middle Of , Fl replies: "How about cinnamon? It works for my father-in-law! And deep breathing, like; inhale, hold breath for three seconds and exhale softly through mouth and repeat until your body feels relax. I once helped my friend whom was catching an asthma attack due to panic cause he ate peanuts and was allergic to them, escape the attack and then he followed through with a benedryl. Sounds simple but works. also read on yesterdays feed a man rid of his persistant hbp through the mini beet protocol."
09/21/2011: Gavin from Manganui, Northland, New Zealand replies: "It might be worth mentioning that a third of all patients that have their BP checked by a doctor.. suffer from what is being called "White coat Hypertension".. This is a nervous reaction when confronted by the Doc. who is about to do things to you. Alarmingly a lot of people are being put on BP. medication who shouldn't have. Also the high Blood pressure point was moved a few years back. It was always 80/120 for a 21 year old.. Then add a point for every year over 21 to the 120 reading. The first figure is the pressure of the heartbeat in milimeters of mercury.. And the second reading is the same in milimeters of mercury as this is the pressure maintained by the Aorta.. If this gets too high it means the blood is encountering resistance as it tries to move around the body. This might require exercise to keep the blood vessels open or something to clean them out out."
09/23/2011: Liz from Boston, Massachusetts replies: "Re: White Coat HypertensionIt is for this reason that I always ask that my BP be taken again when the examination is over, right before I am about to leave. The reading is always significantly lower the second time."
09/23/2011: Gavin from Manganui, Northland, New Zealand replies: "I'm afraid so, to many people a Doctor is a threat. If this is the case the "Flight or fight " factor kicks in and the Adrenaline and other stress hormones raise the B. P. To such a significant amount, that the Doc gets alarmed and put you on medication. Being fair to the Doc. They can only go with the facts as presented, so if your BP. Shows up as beyond reasonable limits he does his thing and writes out a script. My wife turned up for her appontment and got readings of 90/170...I thought with the exercise and diet shes getting she should be perfect... So I bought a B. P. Monitor and checked it constantly at home over a few days.. The readings were in the 80/120 range constantly. She could have quite easily be on long term meds when she didn't need them."
07/08/2011: Doshee from Marshall, California, Usa: "Thank you for this fantastic resource. I have been diagnosed with dysautonomia, the most troubling symptom of which is that my blood pressure rises rapidly when I lie down and drops rapidly when I stand. For example, last night, while asleep, my BP rose to 200/102, Heart Rate 60. 4 minutes later, after going to the bathroom, I took my BP again and it was 90/55, HR 66. I have been on minoxidil at night and metoprolol during the day to counteract the cardiac arrhythmia caused by minoxidil. Recently reduced the minoxidil because I cannot function with the arrhythmia, which metoprolol was no longer treating. I have tried sleeping sitting up, but my nocturnal BPs are still regularly in the 170s.
So I'm desperate to find out what remedies might work for this rapid fluctuation in BP. It has been happening for a long time and getting worse despite my cardiologist's best efforts."
[SIDE EFFECTS] 05/19/2011: Chadi from Dubai, Uae: "Good Morning,
How are you, you have amazing website. Here is a brief of my story; first of all I have hypertensive high blood pressure with fast heart rate (runs in the family). I am 37 years old
male, I live in Canada but 4 years ago I moved to live and work in Dubai UAE. In Jan 2009 I started to take blood pressure medications, I started with a medication called Caduet, it did not work for me because it is keeping my heart rate fast, then the doctor switched me to Tarka in the morning and medicine called concor in the evening, the treatment was ok, after two months of these medications I start feeling some weird sensation on the back of my head, I ignored it it wasn't that severe.
June of 2009 I did a sinus surgery and suppose to be a simple one, the doctor inflated some tubes and laser burned some access flesh in my nose. After this sinus surgery I felt miserable, my eyes were watery, massive headache cannot concentrate, or walk right, I had severe insomnia, my blood pressure went up even with medications, I start taking antidepressant but it made matter worst, most doctors told me I am ok it will go away, after two months of suffering I went to Canada for my annual leave in Sep 2009, after two weeks there I started restoring my sleep back, I felt good. I also changed my blood pressure medications to Lopressor.
When I came back to Dubai in October of 2009, The problem started again. But less severe, I started going to the Gym in September of 2010, It wasn't doing good, I still feel fatigness and tired, early 2011 another problem arised, I start getting shortness of breath and becoming worst, I though it could be from the blood pressure medication it is making me too weak so just a month ago I changed it to Cozaar, The insomnia came back, I stopped Cozaar again and taking herbal medications from local store here, it is keeping my BP low, but the insomnia never went away. I feel very fatigued and weak, I can't do any activities at all because of shortness of breath, my nose always stuffed. It has been two years and desperately looking for solution to my problem. I really don't know what I have got, is it the blood pressure medications doing this? Please assist me, I red you formula about Baking Soda and ACV. Would that help, can I call you if you don't mind? Thank you so much.
Best Regards,
Chadi Abdullah"
[YEA] 12/03/2011: Mdee from Provo, Ut, United States replies: "Cayenne Pepper (the more units of heat the better) is your best short term solution... you can get off the meds for high blood pressure and be at a very healthy level in days.As for long term you can just supplement the cayenne or work on dietary changes but cayenne pepper will work. Read up on Doctor Christopher (herbalist) if you don't believe it.
Good luck!"

12/07/2011: Ash from London, England, United Kingdom: "Hello, I am looking at trying the watercure with 1/2 teaspoon of sea salt as explained on www.watercure2.org for High Blood Pressure. It also involves dietary changes. My doctor tells me NOT to eat salt and this water programme uses SEA SALT and water and a lot of testimonials show success with this. Is it safe for me to take so much SEA SALT with high blood pressure? Any comments or experience with watercure? Is SEA SALT safer? I really want to come off my blood pressure medication as it is not working. Thanks and God Bless
Ash"
[YEA] 06/24/2011: Fiona M from London, England: "Hi, I'm surprised that this remedy is not on here but those of you with high or low blood pressure might wish to research PROPER Sea Salt (ie: unrefined, coarse sea salt)
This link is a good starting point http://www.relfe.com/low_salt_diet_dangers.html
I hope you find relief. Best wishes and thanks for such a marvellous website,

[BETTER BUT NOT CURED] 03/25/2010: Scott from Pen Argyl, Pa, Usa: "Sesame Seed Oil & Hypertension
About 1-1/2 years ago I was diagnosed with a severe case of hypertension. I was put on diuretics and B blockers which for a while brought my blood pressure down to the normal range. In the past few months the drugs haven't been as effective and my pressure started trending up. Accidentally, I ran across info that sesame seed oil could bring a person's BP back into the normal range. I've been using it for the past month and my BP has been trending lower. I'm not back at normal yet but about half way there. I'm hoping in another month to 6 weeks I'll be back there and maybe be able to reduce or eventually give up the drugs altogether. Time will tell."
EC: Hi Scott,
Can you please tell us how much sesame seed oil you are taking each day and how you take it (cook with it, etc.). Thanks!

[YEA] 06/24/2009: Philip from Dearing, GA: "This is a must for those with HBP issues. I believe HBP to be directly related to the type of sodium in our food or artial plaque build up. In my case, and yes I had test run by a medical facility and everything was in good shape, my blood pressure always seemed to be borderline at around 130 over 90 and sometimes depending on what I ate or drank would go up to 140 over 95. So I believe my HBP to be related to the type of sodium in our foods.
I have expermented with this and can make my blood pressure increase and decrease with what I eat in my diet. My BP came down in one week to 118 over 76. I was truly amazed. Well after losing motivation I soon slipped off the diet and my BP slowly crept back up. After starting the diet once again, my BP was down.
I will give you the basic diet I used (There is a book on this, but I know Earth Clinic does not want titles or products) So you will need: A blender; Whey powder; Sea salt (All natural/unbleached); Ground Flax seed; Ice; Fresh or frozen fruits and veggies; Raw almonds and other nuts; Beans; Dairy of any kind, must be fat free or 1%; Unsweetened, unfavored instant oatmeal; Eggs; Lean meats; Peanut butter (again all natural); Olive Oil;100% Whole Grain cereals and bread; Berries (Fresh or Frozen); and Low fat yogurt.
So the goal is BP reduction, but you will lose weight with this also. You will be eating every 2 to 3 hours 6 times a day. Serving sizes should be no more than the palm of your hand and you basically combine the foods such as,1 ounce of almonds with 1 ounce of raisins as a snack or an apple and a cheese stick. For supper, a serving of Tuna, Spinach, Peas, and a glass of fat free milk. For desert, a few pieces of dark chocolate. I hope you get the idea.
The very best part is the smoothies though because you can actually drink 6 of them a day instead of meals and snacks. Take a blender, add 1 cup of crushed ice or 3 or 4 ice cubes, 1 cup of Fat free milk, 2 Tablespoons of low fat vannila yogurt, 2 Teaspoons of Whey powder. These are your basic ingredients and will be in every smoothie you consume. Now you add fresh or frozen fruit of any kind (about a cup) and 2 Teaspoons of peanut butter OR 1 pack of cooked instant oatmeal and blend (this usally makes two servings). A serving will be 12 to 16 ounces and can be drank up to 6 times a day spaced apart at every 2 to 3 hours.
A few teaspoons of flax seed spread over salads or added to smoothies is a good addition. Just remember to try to cook from Raw and add sea salt for flavor.
You can do smoothies all day or you can combine the other foods as snacks and meals. I really do wish I could name the book (Diet). Snacks can be a cup of low fat yogurt and a boiled egg or an egg sandwich on 100% Whole grain bread. I really hope this will help. Incorporating bananas and asparagus as part of this diet will help keep the kidneys flushed from sodium. If sodium is the cause of your HBP, this should be a cure."
