[YEA]  08/11/2011: Maria from Silver Spring, Maryland replies: "Garlic makes my blood pressure drop considerably. Either fresh or pill will bring it way down, so I cook with garlic all the time, or take a pill if I am travelling. Fresh or powder ginger also brings it down. The combination of both garlic and ginger tastes very good and ensures your blood pressure is low, but it has to be consumed everyday."

11/07/2011: Merilyn from Middleton, Wi writes: "I have been battling High Blood Pressure since a bout of Viral Pnuemonia that the Dr. gave me an antibiotic for. Even though I questioned an antibiotic for a viral infection I was told I needed it to not get sicker(! )and I was sick enough that I did not question further. I have been trying many things to bring it into a less scary range... Anywhere from 145/89 to 210/115 varies this much in the range of the month. I decided I would try a supplement I read about in an online blog that has the extract of 7 flowers with the title of Seven Flowers Extract. Does anyone have anymore information on it? Maybe has used it? I have ordered it and it has no information on the bottle, what little is written on it is in Chinese."

11/09/2011: Cameron from Brisbane, Qld, Australia replies: "I do not know anything about your herbs but Co Enzyme Q10 should be on your list as should Garlic. Both of these are scientifically proven to bring down your blood pressure, take 200mg of CoQ10 and a couple of cloves of raw Garlic each day. You might also look at your stress levels at work or home, alcohol, coffee, caffeine consumption. Have you had a ECG or Stress ECG? How is your heart and circulation? If the simple things above do not get your blood pressure down you should wonder if something else is wrong.

BTW sorr,y about your breath with the Garlic but it does work."

11/09/2011: Debbie from Melbourne, Australia replies: "Marilyn, most diseases in the body indicate a mineral deficiency. High blood pressure indicates a magnesium deficiency. With high blood pressure the blood vessels constrict making it harder for the blood to pump around the body. The magnesium relaxes the vessels around the body (including the heart) lowering the "pressure". It of course does much more than that ...

As Cameron suggested garlic is excellent and should always be in your diet along with onions and ginger root.

A good book I am reading is by Carolyn Dean, The Magnesium Miracle. Another book which is excellent and I am about to purchase "Healing Power of Minerals, Special Nutrients, and Trace Elements" by Paul Bergner. Please do your own research but I strongly recommend you supplement with magnesium."

02/14/2011: Stac3y from Winston, Nc writes: "I'm a 31 year old woman (145 lbs; 5'8'') with low blood pressure and a high resting heart rate. When I had my bp checked over the weekend, my bp was 126/86, but my resting heart rate was 107. I'm very concerned that my heart is overworking, but cannot figure out the cause or how to help myself.

I do drink far more caffiene than I should, but without it, my bp falls so low that I can barely motivate myself to get out of bed. I regualrly incorporate turmeric, cayenne, and garlic into my diet. I am on a restricted high protein/low carb diet b/c I am hypoglyciemic. I use ACV daily.

In the times I go to the allopathinc doctors, they see noting wrong with my vital stats, but thins just doesn't seem healthy. I have a family history of heart disease, so I am very concerned.

Any advice or insight would be greatly appreciated. ~Thanks in advance."

02/17/2011: Francisca from Michelbach-le-bas, Alsace, France replies: "A while ago I had read a book on Water where the author advised to drink water with a bit of salt. The explanation sounded plausible and I started doing it. Just a little salt in a way that I hardly even noticed it. Still, lately when I lie down I feel my heart beating in my throat, very disagreeable. This morning I went to the doctor because of horrible lower back pain and he was not happy with my blood pressure. Could it be from the salt? I think so! And although in the book the doctor advised the use of water with salt exactly for lower back pain could it be that in my case it caused the pain? I don't know! As I have recently stopped taking the pill and am now officially in the menopause the doctor did a blood test to have a look at my hormones. For the time being no more salt for me, no matter how good it is! "
02/18/2011: June from Pasadena, Ca, Usa replies: "Hello Francisca,

Are you using sea salt or iodized salt? If iodized salt, that may indeed be the culprit. Try sea salt and see if that makes a difference. We recently bought a blood pressure monitor to use at home and it's been very interesting! I have low/normal blood pressure unless we got out to eat at a restaurant that has put a lot of salt in the food. Too much salt is usually not a problem here in Los Angeles area, but if we leave the state, I've found there's a lot more salt in the food than I am used to. My b/p also shoots up for the next day. As you say, very uncomfortable. Let me know if it's still raised on sea salt. Very curious! My best, June"

02/19/2011: Francisca from Michelbach-le-bas, Alsace, France replies: "Dear June, I have Celtic Salt or the equivalent here in France which someone on this site told me it is Sel de Guarande but I have usually been using Portuguese sea salt which I believe is quite pure and it is not iodized. I bought it in a health food shop and it looks like salt should look like, a bit wet and gray, not the very white dry one. As I recently stopped taking the pill and have been having quite a bit of trouble with pains and aches I have no idea if the fact that I felt the heart beat in my throat is connected to the menopause or to the use of the salt. When the doctor measured my blood pressure I was terribly horrified and stressed out. I am going there again on Friday but for the time being I haven't been putting any salt in my water. Still, I believe that it can be a good idea because if you drink a lot or water, which I try to do you also lose a lot of valuable minerals through your urine.

We are planning to move to another part of France where there there are a lot of natural doctors. I can't wait..... Here there is a homeopathic doctor but I would prefer someone who uses broader therapies because homeopathy is not the best therapy for every problem, I think! I am about to go out and buy magnesium to see if it helps with the back pain. And in the meanwhile I heard from an English lady who has been helping us find a house who had the exact same problems with pain when she stopped taking the pill a few years ago."

What a waste of money, very inaccurate, the slightest body movement also alters the reading. Plus you don't know when it is inaccurate. For anyone who wants to buy a machine (and have the time to wait) keep looking at the special brochures from the chemist because about once a year they have a good special or two. I got mine for $59 a saving of aprox $80 at the time."

08/17/2009: John from Trang, Thailand writes: "Hypertension, [calcium ions]

There's a lot of disinformation on the web and what follows may have some.

Calcium Ions go into a muscle when we want to do something and exit the muscle when it's relaxed, and so it is with the soft muscle surrounding the heart arteries, the soft muscle surrounding the bronchiole. Calcium entering the ears vestibular is a cause of vertigo and I believe calcium entering the eye is a cause of cataracts.

Wanting to pick up a glass, a message from the brain sends calcium ions into the muscle. Would it be the same with muscles surrounding heart arteries? If it is as simple as 'wanting' as it is with picking up a glass, why is it not as simple with heart arteries? Why not send the message -just once- for the heart arterial muscles to relax now? Messages should be that simple. Treating high blood pressure with addictive medication is only treating the symptoms.

The disease - if it is a disease - comes from the brain. How to treat this?"

02/18/2010: Karen from Deland, Fl replies: "John - My thoughts exactly. Blood pressures fluctuate all day long. How is one to really know what is high for them when we all react differently to different situations and stimulants? I can't even look at a blood pressure cuff without feeling my pulse race and blood pressure rise. I have very little faith in the medical profession. They kill more people each year than heart disease, the thought of a hospital or conventional doctor throws me into an anxiety attack. There is no way to get an accurate blood pressure reading when you are wracked with fear. I'm looking for answers as to the truth about blood pressure and an accurate system of how to determine correct diagnosis. The medical profession needs a wake up call... drugs, surgery, lies, scaring people with inaccurate information needs to stop. Doctors are told what to do and what to prescribe by the billion dollar drug companies. I don't call that a physician."

02/18/2010: Colleen from Franklin, Ma replies: "Karen, you are right all the way around... the same thing happens to me. i just think about getting my blood pressure taken and i can feel it rising.... thank you for putting it all down in writing as i feel the same.... God Bless"
02/18/2010: Hope from Sacramento, Ca replies: "My feelings precisely!

I have, in fact, buried my blood pressure cuff in a drawer for a good year and have, instead, pursued a number of healing modalities:

Walking 1-2 miles daily
Yoga
Iodine supplementation protocol plus companion nutrients
Changing my mind patterns to positive thinking especially with the help of the writings of Ester Hicks and Abraham
Healthful eating
Appreciation for all I have

It seems we can be in control of our health and destiny, if we are willing to take responsibility for ourselves, and do a bit of homework...

If not, perhaps it is not a part of ones path at this time....that is ok too....we all must go at our own speed and in a direction that seems appropriate."
02/19/2010: Karen from Deland, Fl replies: "I do the same thing, my blood pressure cuff is buried in a drawer. I walk everyday, think positively, eat healthy and feel my body will tell me if something is wrong. I hope one day we find out the truth behind what doctors are telling us and how quickly they dole out drugs as if it's the answer to everything.

I worked for a conventional veterinarian and saw the same thing. Yearly vaccines are a scam, they are not needed. I heard from an old time vet who was retiring the reason yearly vaccines were started was to get pets in for their yearly exam. They knew if they sent out a reminder card for an exam it would very likely be ignored, but if they made you think vaccines were needed you would be more apt to make an appointment. Yearly vaccines can cause more harm than good. The current information is vaccines have a memory and are good for life. Veterinarians need to be very careful "pushing" vaccines. I also worked for a holistic veterinarian who taught me so much. She hated vaccines and saw the results of overvaccinating everyday. She practiced conventional medicine for over ten years, when I asked her why she stopped she said, "Because it doesn't work!"

As Hope said, we can be in control of our health and our destiny and it's so nice to know others feel the same way I do."

06/13/2011: Just Chillin from Vannes, France replies: "great to hear that other people feel the same as me. I had some anxiety symptoms, and my doctor put me on beta blockers, said that it would calm palpitations and lower blood pressure. Well they didnt, and made me feel worse and in fact caused me vitamin imbalance. I see a good friend who does muscle testin, and she discovered I was deficient in magnesium, which causes all these things. I take an ionic magnesium, use cayenne pepper and nibble celery which keeps my blood pressure normal. It took me a year to get off of the medication. I bought my own machine, and got used to having it done, so no problem now. I just have a high pulse, but am doing rebounding to help with that. This banning of herbs, and possible vitamins and minerals next is just the corrupt pharmaceuticals trying to control what we do, and because we are all waking up to it. They are losing money and they dont like it. If we have to purchase our minerals and vitamins through them or the doctor, they wont be pure.

When I had the burning feet, which was a B1 deficiency, my doctor had told me 6 months before that it was just anxiety. Thank god for natural remedies, and this wonderful site of course."

[YEA]  05/27/2007: Toomba from Kuching , Malaysia writes: "My husband had high blood pressure 160/100 and after getting a high reading a couple of times he got nervous and developed what is called white coat hypertension. He took chlorella, spirlina, and chlorphyll. It is not a quick fix as it took 1.5 years but his blood pressure is now 108/80 and it is consistently so.

I would recommend any of the green cereal grasses or the algaes to take to combat hypertension. You can take as much as you like as they are considered to be SUPERFOODS and are never toxic in any amount."

My reading was 130/90. I didn't want to get on meds so I began to research natural remedies and found out about Hibiscus Tea. Studies have shown drinking Hibiscus tea can help lower blood pressure and it's rich in Vitamin C. I decided to give it a try. For 3 weeks, I drank a cup every day in the morning before breakfast. I make a tea by adding two tsp of dandelion root and about six tsp of hibiscus in hot but not boiling water in a tea pot, let it simmer or sip tea pot for abut 20 mins, then add it to large 2l bottle and fill it with water and take it with you at work and drink all day. Very refreshing as well and the bp will come down in about 6 days. Hope this helps."

08/22/2010: Rene from Moreno Valley, Ca writes: "Found this article yesterday. Haven't tried it yet. Hope it works for you. A recent article in the Internal Medical Journal titled "Treatment of high blood pressure with hibiscus tea" really caught my eye. The article originated from the American Heart Association meeting, and the research was done at the prestigious Human Nutrition Research Center on Aging at Tufts University. The incredible finding of this simple nutraceutical, a food that acts like a medicine - was that drinking 3 cups of hibiscus tea a day for 6 weeks had a significant effect on participants' blood pressure. In fact, the higher the person's blood pressure, the more it lowered it. In those with normal blood pressure it didn't drop too low, but it appeared to keep it from getting higher. Here are a few amazing statements from the article:

"Regularly incorporating hibiscus tea into their diet may help control blood pressure in people at risk of high blood pressure and those already diagnosed with high blood pressure. "
"The public health implications of a blood pressure reduction of this magnitude, if extended to a larger population, could be profound. "
And, from a president of the American Heart Association, "The blood pressure reduction seen with the tea is equal in size to the typical effect of a prescription anti-hypertensive medication. "

Isn't it amazing that drinking tea made from something in God's nature is equal to our most potent hypertensive medication? Wouldn't you rather take something that God provided for us naturally, rather than a costly prescription medication that could have many side effects?
Why hibiscus tea? Apparently, researchers had observed in randomized trials with animals that it had anti-hypertensive and anti-atherosclerotic (hardening of the arteries) effects, and it was promising enough to continue into studies with humans. The compounds identified in the hibiscus tea were flavonoids and phenolic acids, which have potent antioxidant properties. Medicine is catching up with the natural world that God created for us. A reader of this article responded in part:

The dried hibiscus flowers are sold in most grocery stores - bulk and packaged. I have found it takes SO much sweetening that I experimented around and found that using either white grape juice or apple juice for the sweetener that it works very well. Just open a bottle of room temperature juice, pour it in a large bowl, add a handful of dried hibiscus flowers and let it steep for a 2-3 hrs. It tastes very similar to cranberry juice - sugar free hibiscus tea. It is served as a cold beverage in Mexico."

Thank You,

EC: You'd likely find it in the tea section!

08/23/2010: Diane from Berkeley, Ca replies: "Hibiscus tea can often be found in Hispanic markets, where it is known as Jamaica or Aqua de Jamaica. Also readily available in many supermarkets as various herbal tea blends. It is also called roselle sometimes, so look for that on labels."
08/23/2010: Eve K from Houston, Tx replies: "In the Houston area, we don't see this in regular grocery stores, but there is a chain of stores that caters to a primarily Hispanic market, they carry whole dried hibiscus flowers. Boil it down and make tea according to instructions. It makes a nice, tangy iced tea but it is very tart, so you may need to dilute it with something sweeter or add sweetening agents."
08/24/2010: Francisca from Michelbach-le-bas, Alsace, France replies: "Here in Europe I buy it in the health food stores. Never saw it in the supermarket. We live France next to Germany and Switzerland."
08/26/2010: Dianna from Austin, Tx replies: "I am not sure where you are located - but where I live you can buy it in the supermarket in the section with the dried chilis. Also mexican stores we have fiesta and others - will have it both in bulk and in packages - the bulk is usually fresher. They also sell it at farmer's markets. Health food stores have it in a form called celestial seasonings Red Zinger Tea. It has a few other ingredients but is mostly red hibiscus. Btw - these plants are VERY easy to grow!!! And they make a lot of flowers!!! Get the red ones. You can also use the flowers and leaves for hair washes!!!"

HIGH BLOOD PRESSURE/ADRENAL CONNECTION

QUESTION

[QUESTION]  05/20/2010: Susan from Hornchurch, Essex, England writes: "dear friends

i am a new member of this great website. having had problems over the years with my high bp...my doctors have finally come to the conclusion that the cause is my adrenal gland. no medication would work or had very bad side effects. with the bp rising to almost 190/144..and even more if a bad day, i had several tests done - which showed that my adrenal gland produces too much of aldesterone. after a final test to see which adrenal gland is playing up - which i can tell you was painful and very long...yippi...we found it was the left one...or was it...?

of course, the docs are not determined to remove the adrenal gland to bring my bp back to normal, or so they say. however, i am not convinced that this stressful test is reliable and what are problems coming after?

i am very curious to hear about anyone's experiences with alternative remedies to this problem - i know, i have to loose a bit of weight and i am quite busy in my job. i do however do a daily walk with our dog and have recently started with a shiatsu massage.. but i would be so so so so grateful for your help and feedback because i do worry about it all and want to find a solution and get healthy.

thanks so much

01/26/2011: Aria from Port Huron, Mi replies: "In response to Susan: I have a similar situation. A few years ago I was a normal weight, maybe slightly underweight due to a slightly overactive thyroid. Overall, I was healthy and I have always had LOW blood pressure. Usually averaged about 150/50. Over the last several months my health has declined rapidly. I have gained about 60 pounds, I have rashes around my eyes and mouth, my hair is falling out, and my memory is failing. There are many other things but those are among the most troubling. I had an electrolyte panel done and my potassium, sodium, and bun levels were all low. I requested a test for ADH but, for some reason, it was not done. When I asked my doctor about it, he told me it was done and it was normal; however, I had acquired a copy of the results without his knowledge and I knew that was a false statement.

Yesterday, I went to a rheumatologist and, although she has no idea what is wrong with me, she requested more blood work. She is having my serum cortisol tested, as well as aldosterone to renin ratio. I didn't even have to ask. I do not have the results yet but I will post as soon as I find out.

What was interesting is she told me that there is a type of high blood pressure that is linked to low potassium. She has that problem herself and she takes blood pressure medication (which raises potassium) along with two potassium tablets daily. She said she's not sure if that's what is happening to me but she would look into it. I guess it's rare but I don't recall what she called it. I take potassium daily and it seems my body can't get enough. I take tablets everywhere I go so that when my muscles begin to tighten I can take one. If I don't then I start having muscle spasms and heart palpitations. I don't understand why my body is using so much potassium but I hope to find out.

I would appreciate any additional information on this topic that might help."
01/27/2011: Bill from San Fernando, Luzon, Philippines replies: "Hi Arias... Your situation would seem to indicate several deficiencies.

Regarding your heart problems, I also had leg muscle cramps, irregular heart beat and dizziness when I had systemic candida. There are two supplements that will help this condition tremendously. Magnesium and Lugol's Iodine. I used both in my own remedy for this problem. Supplementing with two to four drops of 5% Lugol's Iodine per day as well as supplementing with 250 mgs Magnesium (as Mag Chloride, Mag Citrate or Mag Gluconate) twice a day.

You are currently taking potassium, which will surely help you. Unfortunately, without taking sufficient magnesium, which both regulates the potassium as well as calcium in your cells, then the proper beneficial effects of potassium won't be fully affected or felt.

As well, without a proper magnesium balance, calcium usually builds up in excess -- causing acidity in the tissues. This causes pain and fatigue. What would also help you would be to avoid any dairy for a while -- no milk, yoghurts, ice cream, cheese etc and see if this makes a difference. I mention this because all processed food these days are all too over-fortified with calcium and lacks the presence and regulating effects of magnesium. Therefore, too much intracellular acidity, due to excess calcium, is created in our tissue cells.

Almost certainly you have a low iodine intake dietary problem since it is well known that low iodine in diet causes imbalances in lipid (fat) and glucose regulation in the body. Have a look at this link:

The Iodine/Glucose/Lipid Metabolism Connection

Many of your problems also seem to relate to low thyroid iodine. Taking Lugol's Iodine will also help your thyroid as well as your heart problems. Adrenal fatigue problems are also invariably linked and associated with thyroid problems. The Magnesium supplement works synergistically with iodine and should also greatly help any arthritic or rheumatic problems as well. See these links:

EC - Using Transdermal Magnesium Oil

What I would also do is protect your own liver. If you do this you will also be protecting your blood and hormonal balance. The best way to do this is to take the following supplements:

Milk Thistle -- 1000 gms twice a day

Alpha Lipoic Acid -- 300 mgs twice a day

Selenium -- 200 micrograms once or twice Day

Take the above supplements with food at lunch and dinner. It is also advisable to take standard B50 complex dosages since the above combination of supplements tends to deplete vitamin B in the body.

This is a Triple Antioxidant Therapy that protects more than just the liver. Try and purchase the Methylselnocysteine form of Selenium. This form of Selenium will add a further two antioxidants to the mix -- methylation and cysteine -- adding the little-known methyl group for important methylation -- also essential for the body and particularly for the brain in terms of energy and anti-oxidant protection. The cysteine portion also is a building block in the formation of Glutathione -- another useful anti-oxidant which helps to neutralize toxins and poisons in the liver.

Selenium also functions to improve the action of other anti-oxidants like Vitamins E, C, Glutathione and CoQ10. Taking the above supplements will therefore greatly strengthen your immune system -- and will act on more than just the liver.

To get a much better idea of other problems, perhaps you should also get a hair mineral analysis done. This is fairly cheap and will tell you of any further mineral deficiencies as well as any dangerous excessive levels of fluoride or heavy metals in your body which could also be causing you problems.

I also see that you live in Michigan, up by the Great Lakes. This region is well know for having low iodine in the soil (due to glacier formation in the past leeching out useful minerals and iodine from the soil). This region is well known as being a goiter belt in the past.

The Great Lakes is also an area where a large amount of nuclear waste from the US and Canada is stored (over 31 nuclear waste sites now proliforate in this region) -- and particularly waste from Liquid Fluoride Thorium Reactors. There has already been an outcry over this, particularly if the fluoride finds its way into the water supplies and soils of the region. But the US Govt does nothing about it. All the more reason then to supplement with Lugol's for protection against this possible fluoride poisoning in the water supply."

He's stressed with work, 2 businesses etc. Anyhow, he knows better but... Here we are. He's gained 30 lbs and is at 233 and I finally got him to go to the ND. His blood pressure was 170/100. Highest its ever been ;-( So of course diet has to be a 180 but in the meantime the ND gave him a tincture to bring it town right away while he works on his diet. 3 days on the tincture and its 134/85 LOL If I read it correctly from the bottle its made up of crataegus monogyna 200 ml, ravwolfia serpentina 50ml (PLEASE CHECK SPELLING ON THESE IT'S HARD TO READ HIS WRITING!! )

After examining MY HUSBAND this is what he prescribed FOR HIM: he has instructed him to take 5ml daily until BP is 135/85 then every other day. (we have added in CoQ10, msm, bcomplex vitamin, lypospheric vitamin c, and fulvic-humic acid minerals, a good fish oil) - ALL but the Coq10 the kids and I take regularly and my husband takes sporadically 'when he remembers' but NOW he's taking them faithfully) Anyhow I will post back with updates in the weeks to come, but this is looking promising. While sometimes WE KNOW EXACTLY what we have to do and SHOULD be doing, sometimes it is not that easy and it takes something drastic to put us back on the right path ;-) This tincture is IMO "THE" reason his blood pressure has dropped drastically in 3 days. I would not recommend exploring this without the help of a practitioner but it's something you can take with you, research etc. when you go!!"

HYDROGEN PEROXIDE

[YEA]  03/25/2007: Jo Ana from Norwich, CT writes: "For many years, I would wake up at night, with a rapidly beating heart, gasping for breathe, etc. I have tried many remedies and again, over the years had developed high blood pressure perhaps, as a result of poor respiration at night, kidney and gallstones. Minor surgery for an impacted kidney stone and then major infirmities probably as a result of the surgery, antibiotics, HBP meds, and infections. Found your site, and I have started using food-grade H2O2 again orally and through inhalation, also extra virgin coconut oil, iodine, and cider vinegar. Within 2 weeks, HBP gone, no liver/GB pain or distress, and a major increase in energy and a returning sense of well-being. Sleeping through the night like a baby. Please be aware that I tried EDT suppositories and ionic footbaths for relief from toxicity, with only an increase in distress. I credit my body's healing to the H202, cider vinegar, coconut oil, iodine, and coffee enemas to eliminate the toxins. I truly appreciate this website and my return to health, after all these years of less than optimal functioning. I had had a normal body temp of 96.8 for years and after initiated Lugol's iodine footpainting, within this time period as well, my normal body temp is up to 98 from below 97, which is also a really good thing. Thanks to all of you for all your suggestions, and I wish this level of body optimization for all of you who suffer needlessly. God Bless You All. "

My moderately elevated blood pressure reduced to normal, according to my doctor's records, without use of drugs. How long should I continue to pursue this treatment? Should I continue longer or cycle on and off in some way?"

The dentist recommended using a product called Peroxyl, which is just a flavored 1.5% hydrogen peroxide solution. It helped the injury to heal, but as a by-product my blood pressure was lowered significantly. I did go beyond recommended usage. How much hydrogen peroxide is enough and how is dosage determined? It is easy to find food grade H2O2 at 3%."

I am not doing or taking anything else so it has to be the Lugol's. My blood pressure has also come down to the extent that I am seriously considering coming off my BP medication. It was routinely 145-155 over 90-96 and now is down to routinely 115-120 over 68-72."

[YEA]  03/23/2010: Miriam from Plain City, Ohio writes: "I learned years ago that a low carb diet will dramatically lower high blood pressure quickly, usually within 12 hours! You will know it is working when you notice you are urinating more frequently. I know the low carb lifestyle has been controversial, but I have proven the benefits to myself for years. Also, acid reflux/heartburn will disappear while on a low carb diet!"

03/23/2010: Phil from Dearing, Ga replies: "Hi Miriam.

I have been posting here for years now. Somewhere on here, I said that I believed sugars ( Carbs ) contributed as much to Higher blood pressure as does sodium. I also find that diet effects my blood pressure by as much as 15 to 20 points.

So yea, I think you might be on the right track about those carbs.

I think the key is to stay hydrated, but keeping the kidneys flushed. Asparagus extract can help keep kidneys flushed also."

Apparently you get the most benefit from cooked tomatoes and apparently that's why a Mediterranean diet is supposed to be so good for you. I wondered whether you can buy it in tablet form and found that these tablets are available from health food stores."

MAGNESIUM

01/26/2012: Christine from Nottingham, England writes: "My husband has high cholesterol and has been on Bezafibrate for about eighteen years. He could not tolerate statins. He had sleep problems for a number of years. We decided to come off the tablets and he has slept very well since.

His blood pressure has now gone up to around 150/94. His heart reate is irregular and very slow ranging from 38 to 50 beats a min. I know statins and fibarates deplete q10. I have given him supplements. Also Garlic, fish oils, Licethin and natural sterol supplements. I am not so concerned about cholesterol. However I am concerned about Blood pressure and low irregular heart rate. I am afraid of heart failure. Does anyone know whether magnesiun could help? I know some use it for rapid heart problems. Also would hawthorn help? I do not want to make things worse for him. Any suggestion much welcome."

01/26/2012: Geneva from Paragould, Ar replies: "Yes Magnesuim will help his heart and blood pressure. He needs to see a heart doctor for help. I speak from having same problems. Believe me he don't want to wait till his heart jumps out of rhythm.

Best of luck to you and your husband,

Geneva"

01/27/2012: Timh from Louisville, Ky, Usa replies: "Christine, to strengthen the heart, make sure you add Selenium and Vit-E to the CoQ10 as they work best together; and it's also recommended to swap the CoQ10 for the better form ---Ubiquinone, especially as one ages. *A note on Selenium, England is notorious for high Sel soil levels which have threatened cattle & sheep herds, and hastened tooth decay in humans, so I would take less than the recommended dose.

As for herbs, look for an herbal combination which contains as many of the fallowing as possible: Hawthorn, Cayenne, Ginger, Garlic, Ginko Biloba.

A dash of Sea Salt in 1/4-1/2 cup water 2 daily is good for HBP.

Hope this helps and good luck."

01/27/2012: Khakimo from Atlanta, Usa replies: "I believe the better form of CoQ10 is Ubiquinol, especially as one ages. Ubiquinone is the one you don't want."
