[BETTER BUT NOT CURED]  03/01/2008: Latima from Atlanta, GA: "Hello to all, I have been suffering from BV for 5 years now. Antibiotics will make it go away but i hate the way flagl tastes and metro is cool but both will cause me to have a yeast infection :( I started taking probiotics to not have a yeast infection and that worked while I was on the flagl.

The only thing that makes me get bv is having sex without a condom. I don't mind condoms but sometimes you get into a moment where you dont use them. For a while now I have stop tub baths and using perfumed soaps wich I am sure would cause BV too! What a hassle this thing is. I came across this site looking for a natural cure b/c I am soo sick of going to the doctors when I know for sure what the problem is. Today after reading everything on the site I am trying the folic acid (2/800 mg), Hydrogen Peroxide and h2o(50/50)and probiotics (14 billion). I pray that is works and if it does ill be sooooo happy!!!! Ill be back to let you guys know how it went.

Incidentally I have been trying to increase my alkiline with ACV/no baking soda and greens mix. Im am trying to cut back on sugar but its hard and I have learned that artificial sweeteners are acidic and bad for BV suferers trying to keep their PH right."

[WORKED TEMPORARILY]  02/29/2008: Jenny from Miami, Florida: "I tried the acidophilus and practically finished the entire 180 pills there was along with the folic acid and the peroxide, it did get better as far as the discharge having a little less odor. however, the itchiness is still mild and the discharge comes once in a while, but it is still there!!!! i already tried metrogel given by my doctor, it went away for a couple of months and it came back. my doctor prescribed me metrogel again, and i'm worried i'm just going to give the bv more strength. honestly, metrogel kills everything good and bad bacteria, but how on earth do you keep good bacteria when this acidophilus isn't enough?? i thought i was done with this problem, but ovbiously i am not. i'm still sad, though i try to forget about it. my boyfriend says that from a 1-10, he gives .me an 8 in improvement of odor. least my sex life is much better, but i still have that discomfort. does anyone have any other remedy... please!!! coming from a person who has struggled with this for about 3 years. i just wish this bv never existed. thanks for listening. tear."

[BETTER BUT NOT CURED]  02/29/2008: Emma from St. Louis, Missouri: "I found out in December that I had Chlamydia and I was pissed (because I pretty much knew that my ex gave it to me!). My OB-Gyn gave me Azythromycin, which cleared up the infection. But I was still having alot of this odd-smelling white/yellow discharge (that smelled like fish after my husband and I would have sex). My doc said it was just my body changing (I had a miscarriage in March 2007). I didn't believe that so I kept pestering him about it and he took a swab and we found out I had BV. My doc prescribed Metrogel. That didn't work very well, it seemed to lessen the discharge but it would come back and there would still be a lot! And the smell? I'm clean person and I feel like I could smell it eveywhere I went. Plus, I know my hubby loves me and I hate for him to have to deal with this . . . it's not that bad, but it sure isn't a nice smell. And I would have to wear pads
EVERY DAY to try and mask the smell and because the discharge would soak my underwear(goopy, nasty!)
So I have been searching for natural cures because I don't want to wear my body out with antibiotics (I try to stay away from meds as much as possible).
Well, today is my first day trying the folic acid, acidophilis and 3% hydrogen . . . I'm going to keep up with this and pray that it works because I have seen the positive responses from others. I had all this goopy stuff come out after I did the 3% hydrogen douiche. Did anyone else have that?
'To add to this, my hubby is being to supportive and he's telling me it's going to work :)
I'm also taking cranberry juice and pills and lots of water because along with the BV and Chlamydia, I kept getting UTIs and the antibiotics were NOT working! The cranberry juice is helpiing! I am having no pain in my bladder! Yes!
Another thing . . . My doc told me that BV was harmless, right? YEAH, RIGHT! I did a lot of research that BV can cause complications with pregnancy and has occured alongside premature births and low-birthweight babies. I don't know what other problems BV could cause. Anyways, pray that this works for me . . . I want it to be gone because makes me self-conscious! I want to be clean! And . . .me and my hubby are hoping to conceive soon . . . keep in your prayers."

08/18/2011: Blessed from New York: "It works! I have been doing it for about 5 days. Ladies, I cannot thank you enough for your suggestions! It is such a blessing. I soaked a tampon in peroxide 2X daily. I am going to continue to do so to make sure the BV is gone. I am also tkaing the RePhresh pills daily. Does anyone have any other suggestions aside from the Rephresh pills to maintain a healthy balance?"

03/09/2011: 15yearstoolong from Hamilton, Ontario, Canada: "First of all I'd like to say a huge Thank you to all of the women on this site for writing about your home remedies and making suggestions, giving the rest of us sufferers some hope. I am 40 years old and have had 5 children. I have suffered with BV since I was 25 yrs old (15 years in total). I have always taken the medication that my doctor has prescribed for me (Flagyl), and it has always worked in getting rid of the BV, but only temporarily. I really felt like I was the only one suffering with this, and always felt "dirty".

Up until I had my 3rd child, I had never ever had a vaginal problem. No odours, no discharge, nothing. I was with the same man for over 19 years, so multiple partners was never an issue. The first time I got BV, my doctor had very little advice or anything at all to tell me on how to fight this vicious infection. I would get it at least 3 times a year every year following that. Here in Canada we do have medical insurance and are able to see the doctor as frequently as we need to and Flagyl is covered by my insurance. For 15 years this medication has done nothing but temporarily make it go away. I am now in a new relationship and have only been sexually active twice in the past month. First time was 1 day before I started my menstrual cycle and there was absolutely no smell, however discharge was thick. The second time was 2 weeks afterwards and I could smell the BV was back and heard that "noise" that happens when I urinate while infected. I had told my doctor about this "sound" and he looked at me like I had 2 heads. However after reading the posts on this site, I have come to learn I was not alone. Other women have heard it too, and can tell when an outbreak of BV will or is happening because of that alone. So after having read each and every single post on here, I decided to try some of the remedies. I have done alot of online research and found out some things that certainly helped me. The very first thing I did was went to the drug store and bought a bottle of Hydrogen Peroxide 3%. I also found a product by RePhresh called Pro-B caplets. Each caplet contains 2.5 billion Lactobacillus rhamnsous Gr-1, and 2.5 billion Lactobacillus reuteri RC-14. After very extensive research I came to learn that these 2 types of bacteria are the most important healthy bacteria that fight off the bad bacteria and is found naturally in the vagina. Each one has its own way of fighting, and are necessary to maintain a healthy vagina. So here is what I have done. I'm sure most of you already know that you need more of the healthy bacteria in your vagina than bad in order for you to get rid of the BV. I bought a douche from the drug store and emptied out its contents. I filled half of the bottle with the Hydrogen Peroxide and the other half with warm water. I douched with that and held it in for about 5 mins, then letting it all out and douched again but this time with only Hydrogen Peroxide and no water. Yes it burned a slight bit but barely noticeable. I then showered only using water to clean my womanly area. After the shower I used straight peroxide to clean the outer area. Make sure you dry the area soon afterwards. I took orally 1 of the capsules mentioned above. Just before bedtime I took a tampon and lowered it back down inside the tube to leave some room. I took one of the capsules, broke it open and poured the powdery content into the tampon applicator so that it would sit in a neat little pile on top of the tampon. I stood up to put the applicator in so it wouldn't pour out the powder before being inserted. Do not wet the tampon at all before insertion or it won't go in very easily. I left the tampon in for 2 hours. The second night, I only took 1 capsule orally and inserted one pill vaginally, same way as before.

Third day I took another pill orally, did the Peroxide douche and afterwards inserted another capsule. I will not douche every day, as I am afraid of washing away the "good" bacteria that I have inserted and also taking orally. You have to grow and maintain enough good bacteria down there, in order for it to be successful in overtaking the bad bacteria and combat BV. Also always wearing cotton undies, and keeping the area as dry & clean as possible is also an important factor. When you take the Flagyl or other anti-biotics, it kills the good bacteria along with the bad and upsets the acidity and PH levels in your vagina, therefore giving any bad bacteria that survives another chance of regrouping and re-infecting. I won't be doucing anymore and only taking the probiotics that I have bought..

Here in Canada the RePHresh pills I purchased were $35.00 for a 30 day supply, at one a day. However, I have been going through 2 a day as I am using them vaginally as well. It's been a while since I started this regimen and so far everything is working fantastic!!! I have never been drier down there in my life. Even after a very long hard day and no chance of a shower yet, I'm still completley dry down there.. There is absolutely no odour and no discharge. The real test will be after my menstrual cycle or sex... I will keep you updated on how things progress for me. This is trully one of the most horrible infections us women can get.. Not to mention embarrassing, degrading, and I'm tired of living the life of a nun just to keep from suffering the embarrassments. I ordinarily would never write on these kinds of forums especially about this kind of personal thing, however I'm hoping that I can help others out, the same way others on this site have certainly helped me! Good luck to all of you!"

03/09/2011: 15yearstoolong from Hamilton, Ontario, Canada replies: "I just wanted to add that I had read somewhere that some of the probiotics that have been mentioned in some of these posts that are being taken by women to combat BV, are actually not effective for bacterial vaginosis, but rather for digestive & intestinal problems. This could be why some women are finding no success in beating this infection by taking their probiotics alone. The 2 bacteria strains I have listed above in my post are the 2 that you need the most to beat this thing. Also keep up with the "proper" probiotics even for a while after it seems that you have no more symptoms. Sometimes it seems like it has gone away when in fact it may not be completley gone yet. The longer you dose yourself with "good" bacteria the better your chances of success."

[BETTER BUT NOT CURED]  04/12/2010: Nikki from Milwaukee, Wi: "WOW!!! I'm so glad I came across this site! I'm a married (faithfully) 30yr old that has been suffering from BV for at least a year. At first I didn't know what was wrong w/me. My main symptom was pain and burning during and after intercourse. Doc diagnosed me with bacterial vaginosis after a pap smear. She game me the pill, I think called metronidazole (or close to that) and an antifungal cream. I guess it helped slightly relieve symptoms for a week or so but not much relief. I didn't go back to the doc, it was embarrassing and I didn't want to take the pills again. they made me feel sick and didn't work anyways.

3 days ago I tried the hydrogen peroxide mixed with distilled H20 (1/2 and 1/2 mix) and douched (never done that before!) and IMMEDIATELY the smell was gone and my vagina felt like it did years ago! I was thrilled! I went to the store and bought probiotics took one orally and upon others recommendations put one in my vagina at bedtime. I used the pearl capsules. The next morning I woke up burning and itching like I had a major yeast infection. I douched with the peroxide mix and felt better. I took another probiotic that day orally, NO MORE in the crotch! I think that did me in for the yeast infection.I also used a dose of monistat the 2nd night to fight any yeast infection that may have been brewing down there. So I'm on day 4 of taking probiotic once a day orally and douching maybe once a day with the peroxide mix. I have to say I think this is working!!!! I'm so happy I have my normal happy good smelling crotch back! It was so embarrassing before. I always worried about the smell and the pain during sex. My husband and I had sex on day 3 and I had 0 pain!!! I made him wash himself downthere very good before sex.

I'm really hoping this continues to work for me, I'm so scared to get BV back. It's nasty, embarrassing and just plain miserable.I'm going to try to continue taking the acidophilus pill (probiotic) daily, and only douche when I feel BV coming on.

PLEASE...if your having the same problems give the hydrogen peroxide mixed with distilled water a try! I couldn't believe the IMMEDIATE relief I had. On a side note, don't be afraid that the hydrogen peroxide is bad for you. It occurs naturally in the vagina and we get yeast and bacterial infections when levels are too low. The point of the acidophilus pills (probiotics) is to increase these good bacteria that produce hydrogen peroxide."

02/03/2011: Erin from Milton, Wa replies: "I am a first time sufferer of BV and don't know what to do! I was first diagnosed with a yeast infection about a month ago and after 2 rounds of diflucan it went away for a few days; then later I went back to the doctor with new symptoms. She diagnosed me with BV and a bladder infection. I just completed my 5th day of metrozinadole gel and don't think it worked. I've been taking daily acidophilus pills and eating alot of yogurt, I'm terrified of this reoccuring, the last month has been hell! Any advice would be really appreciated- thanks, Erin"
03/12/2011: Lola from Los Angeles, Ca replies: "Hydrogen peroxide only works temperarily. It like cleans the vaginal walls out of the acidic discharge, but wait a day and it will come right back.

Dong Quai Herb twice a day, and a good, (atleast $30 bottle of acidophilus is important too) The pearls are good. I use "Femdophilus" Jarrow brand.

Goldenseal Herb and Echinacea for no more than a month, is good. 350mg pills, three capsule, three times a day, and Goldenseal ticture, filled in an empty "00" gel caps, 2 to 3 times a day everyday along with the echinacea. Its an infection!! The bacteria must be killed off"

[YEA]  06/21/2012: Peter from Las Vegas, Nevada: "I've never written on any forum before but I had to share this with you ladies to help rid you of BV. BV is very common, you can get it many different ways. What many women don't know is you can simply get it by your partners dirty fingers or tongue. I know this may sound yucky but hands and mouths are two of the most common germ/bacteria carriers we possess on our bodies.

Make sure your partner washes their hands especially under the finger nails w/simple anti-bacterial soap before sexual activity. Also if you have BV and have sex, your partner will now have it on his penis for several days regardless of how often he showers because bacteria doesn't just wash away with shower gel and hot water, and he can just keep re-transmitting it back to you if you rid yourself of it but not him. I was told by my girlfriends doctor to put peroxide in a glass(LARGE for me lol) and dip my penis in it for just a minute and make sure the whole penis is surrounded by peroxide to kill any bacteria because it can harbor in the foreskin around where the head and shaft crease at. If uncircumcised make sure they pull the foreskin back to expose the head. Better results if erect.

Now the doctor prescribed Flagyl and of course it worked but she had to take it for a week and couldn't drink any alcohol not even Listerine/mouthwashes w/alcohol because it would make you really sick. At the time we didn't have health Insurance so it was $85 for the prescription. The doctor was a friend of a friend so my girlfriend asked him if she ever got it again was there a less expensive way to rid her of BV and he simply said yes but most doctors don't recommend it, or they will tell you it's not good for you because they want the repeat business. He said simply get a 2 to 4 qt container I. E. Beverage pitcher from your kitchen. Make a solution of 1/2 Peroxide and 1/2 distilled or spring water (NO TAP or purified water). Make plenty so you don't run out while using, about 2-3 qts worth. Now this may sound a little naughty but we were determined to make it work, she got in the bathtub in the pyle driver position which is on your back and neck and flop your legs back and I had to help and pour the solution into her vagina til completely full and overflowing to make sure it reached everywhere. It's not a comfortable position ladies but well worth the 5mins to get rid of this foul infection. Went to sleep and the next morning Voila! Completely gone and doesn't come back.

Also if your partner ejaculates inside you, many times that fishy odor will come back for a few days but then dissipate if you don't have sex for those few days. We've read all the different ways to do a home remedy and this one worked the fastest, was simple and cost $0.98 cents. Good Luck Ladies and let us know if you tried it and how succesful it was."

Hydrogen Peroxide, Tea Tree Douche

10/16/2009: There Is Hope from Clearwater, Fl: "I've been suffering with BV for 10 months now gone to the doctor numerous times to have it come back 2 weeks later. Gone through blaiming the boyfriend of the possibilty of him sleeping with someone else and causing this. Even gone as far as having him tested. To find that it lies within me. Tried all the remedies nothing has really worked until i decided to mix some of the ideas myself and came up with a cure! 1 part Hydrogen Peroxide to 2 parts water also added 2 teaspoons of pure tee tree oil to the mix. soaked a tampon into the liquid and inserted into the vagina for 4 hours. Will feel cold as the tea tree oil has a menthol like affect. Hallelujah its gone no more discharge and no more embarassing odor. Still taking the probiotics just for mind over matter. Will keep this handy just incase it decides to creep back. But so far so good will keep you posted of the time frame on this method."

10/28/2009: Roxy D from Portland, Maine replies: "Glad to hear that this worked for you. I was doing tea tree oil baths...worked for an hour or so, then nothing. So just out of curiousity, how are you going about pouring all this liquid on a tampon without it balooning up like crazy before you insert you keep it in the applicator?

Thanks in adavance! Curious to see an update too, how long did this work for you?"
09/11/2011: Dana from Atlanta, Ga replies: "Women's knowledge isn't something medical science has ever invested much faith in. We weren't treated by doctors for things like BV for many centuries, we were treated by other women, mid-wives, who shared women's knowledge of remedies that worked. That kind of knowledge has been considered unreliabe, dangerous, superstition, and most notoriously, witchcraft, so that in modern times there is such a stigma with even having these conversations (about yogurt or cranberry juice for example) is immediately called "girl-stuff" and dismissed as cute but not important.

So I love this site and this conversation about BV. These are threads about remedies that have been used for thousands of years and that women are still using and reporting positive results with now. Can you say that about antibiotics?

My input: read these posts. From what I know about natural medicine, a lot of advice here makes good sense. For me, my go-to remedy for BV (had it 3 times) is the tea tree tampon. Many here suggest 1/3 tea tree and 2/3 vitamin e. Vitamin e is expensive unless it's diluted in a carrier oil, but that should also be ok. I have used evening primrose oil to dilute the tea tree. Whatever you use, make sure it is clean and pure, as in right out of a new bottle. As one reader asked, no the tampon will not blow up like a balloon if you use oil. I would have thought the same thing, but a tampon soaked in oil doesn't expand like one soaked in water. I have even used a few drops of pure tea tree on a tampon and inserted it just like that, but that's pretty intense so I'm hesitant to recommend it. I use these for about a week. I have results by day 2 of not sooner.

Dr. Bronner's Tea Tree Oil Soap should be in everyone's shower. (For real. ) I wash with that and it helps with yeast, bv, urinary tract infections, any external skin infection. I soap up my fingers and go just inside my vagina as well. That alone helps, but go with yogurt, tea tree, cranberry juice (as suggested per infection on this site) as well. Yes, definintely do acidophilus/probiotic pills. These are good all around.

I tried apple cider vinegar to start off this time before I tried tea tree oil, and I'll go straight to tea tree and Dr. Bronner's if I get BV again, but that's what works for me. Keep reading and find what you like. Don't discount the value of doctors, but don't discount time-proven women's knowledge either."

Hydrogen Peroxide, Yogurt

07/26/2009: Bmore76 from Baltimore, MD: "peroxide/water douche and 10ml of plain yogurt cured my frequent recurring bacterial vaginosis"

[YEA]  03/01/2009: Tani from East Hartford, Connecticut: "I am totally happy to find this site, I've had BV for 2 years and was at the end of my rope with Metro Gel and Flagyl. I was beginning to think I was immune to these drugs because they never worked for me. I was sick of being in the doctor's office 3 times a month and decided to do my own research. After reading everyone's post and what worked for them, I began my own experiment that totally worked for me. For 7 days I douched with half water and half 30cc peroxide every night with a douche bottle (which burned a little)and inserted plain Organic yogurt from Country Farm. I thought it was important to use that type of yogurt as it had the lactobacillus which we need to put back directly in the vagina to help kill the bad bacteria causing BV. Its been 6 weeks and I am BV free."

01/12/2011: Nik from Los Angeles, California replies: "Glad to hear that that regimen worked for you :). I've been on and off with this issue for YEARS! I will definitely try this before I seek out a specialist. How long did you do the peroxide/water douche and yogurt insertion before the BV went away and you ended the routine? Or is it a constant routine you have to do for maintenance?"

Indonesian Remedies

[YEA]  10/20/2008: Amber from Manhattan, KS: "Bacterial Vaginosis.

Oak Gall, specifically a brand from Malaysia called Kzanah Manjakani Sarapat Plus pills, taken AFTER antibiotics have helped many women as well as myself. I don't know if it's the tannins in it, or what properties attribute to it's success, but most of us have taken prescriptions to assist in this issue only to have the BV symptoms to return. But now, with these pills there are no reoccurring symptoms. We take 2 tiny pills three times a day."

EC: Looks like that herbal formula is manufactured in Indonesia, not Malaysia.

Gambir - a powerful astringent that consists mainly of antioxidants catechin and catechutannic acid. Useful for arresting excessive mucous discharges.

Daun Jarak - used as an antihelminthic and purgative, to help improve bowel movement.

Akar Sarapat - as the name depicts, sarapat means "tighten" in the Malay Language. Commonly used in healing wounds and treating women with childbirth and birth-related injuries. Also used for the contraction of vaginal muscle and uterus.

Kunyit (Tumeric) - beneficial for hemorrhages, irregular menstruation and liver problems. Also prescribed for women after childbirth to stimulate and promote blood circulation. Very strong antioxidant to promote overall health and great skin!"

10/20/2008: Amber from Manhattan, KS replies: "Wow, thanks for the fast feedback!! Indonesia....ok. I order from a place that ships from Malaysia, I just assumed.

The pills are relatively cheap, but I love the fact that most of the cures on this site are all natural and most can be found in a grocery store.

What do you think is the most important ingredient is when it comes to these pills and the great results I, and the women on my yahoo group are having with this?

I'd prefer to find the one ingredient in natural fruit or food.

Thank you, Amber."

EC: Hi, Amber. Sorry, not sure the most important ingredient. I saw these herbs in pill and powder form everywhere when I spent 2 months in Indonesia many years ago. At that time I thought turmeric was the main ingredient in the formulas, but we'd have to talk to an Indonesian herbalist to know for sure. The individual packs of powder to be diluted with water (sold even in restaurants) were super cheap, that I remember. Balinese women that I talked to swore by the herbs for their "vaginal tightening effect" after childbirth!

[YEA]  12/03/2013: Compelledtotell from South Carolina: "I suffered for years before I found an herb called Kacip Fatimah. My sister and I both suffered from BV for so long that the clinic that we went to refused to keep treating us. Can you believe that! ?! ? Well I don't remember how I came upon the herb Kacip Fatimah and it's kind of hard to get (I order mine from another country). But that one bottle is literally a life saver! Anytime I feel a little strange down south I take a pill. It's also good for urinary prolapse which I think is what led me to the herb in the first place after giving birth to my daughter. It was then that I realized that I hadnt had BV in a while. I should've come to this site to tell you guys about these cures. I've used Earth Clinic for years and I just feel compelled to share my cures. I hope they work for you like they did for me."

Kefir, Oregano Oil

[YEA]  03/08/2013: Cnn from Philadelphia, Pa: "Cure BV with Kefir. Plain Kefir has more probiotics than anything you can buy in a pill. Drink it in the morning before your meal and at night before you go to bed. Make suppositories with Kefir and a drop of oil of oregano at night for 7 days to kill the bacteria and restore the friendly bacteria all at once. (mix the oil of oregano with the keifer and store it in the freezer). Break off a piece at night and insert it. (only use a drop of oil or it may be too irritating) Buy sulfate free, and a propylene glycol free body products. Follow a ph balanced diet, and avoid sugar when you can. Add peroxide to your final rinse with your laundry to kill bacteria that may still linger in these items. Avoid tampons. Make kefir a part of your every day drink and it will not return."

Lactic Acid, Prebiotics

YEA (1)

[YEA]  09/06/2013: Notjanedoe from Colorado: "Bacterial vaginosis is caused from an imbalance in the pH, period (no pun intended). Therefore, any treatment should focus on balancing the pH. I've narrowed my causes down to ANYTHING that alters the pH with blood, lubricants, & soap as my biggest culprits.

I spent years doing allopathic remedies for BV and at-home experiments, to no avail. I briefly got rid of the BV for a couple of months after a painful experiment putting an ascorbic acid suppository internally, but it came back. A few months back I moved to a cervical barrier method of BC, but refused to use that N9 spermicide. After much research I located an approved contraceptive gel out of Canada (Contragel) that used ALL naturally derived ingredients. It is pricey, but I figured it was worth not using N9. The main ingredient, "lactic acid". At the time, I had no idea it would work to treat BV. I did a "test" by using a medicine syringe as an applicator (discard after use or sterilize) to put the gel internally and see if I had any reactions, prior to putting it to "formal" use. I woke up the next morning with ZERO BV symptoms and at the time I had both BV and a yeast infection confirmed through a pap, but I had refused to take the pills this time. BOTH were gone and I was actually left with a pleasant sweet odor (the lactic acid).

What I've learned after extensive research that focused on actual lab studies and NOT person dependent testimonials:

*Stop putting ANYTHING that is not pH balanced anywhere near your lady parts. This includes lubricants used by doctors or rad. techs for U/S. Medical professionals think I am crazy for refusing, but it's not that uncomfortable or I bring my own lubricant (recipe below).

*Use water to wash yourself or make your own lactic acid based soap (recipe below). You can also buy Vagisil pH balanced type washes, but they have a bunch of chemicals in them usually or rip you off price wise.

*Probiotics will NOT make their way to your lady parts, so that is a waste of money and you should take ones that will colonize your GI track or use them vaginally (OBGYN taught me this).

*PREbiotics (FOS and GOS) WILL make their way into the lower colon to feed the good bacteria that will make their way to your lady parts. There are many effective studies on the use of PREbiotics for BV treatment (orally & vaginally).

*Use non-lubricated condoms with a homemade pH balanced lubricant or the Contragel spermicide (more expensive). After much research I came up with the following recipe: 91% Distilled water, 5% coconut water, 1% ACV, . 16% non-GMO glycerin, 2% lactic acid, 0.25-3.0% Sorbic Acid until pH is at 4. You can use non-aluminum baking soda to increase pH if you get it too low. Store in fridge or add appropriate broad-spectrum antimicrobial, if concerned. Put it in a container that will not expose the lubricant to air or your hands (like a bottle with pump or serum bottle).

*Make suppositories or gel to use vaginally AFTER you've been exposed to anything that may increase your pH above 4. 5. With research I developed this recipe: 73% Coconut oil, 25% FOS and/or GOS (hard to find, but Bimuno is 100% GOS from Europe), 2% lactic acid. A study also showed that the EO, Palmarosa, was beneficial in combatting candida strains, in vitro, so you could add a few drops of this too, if you're worried about yeast. This is oil based, so do not use it before intercourse, if using a latex condom.

*Take FOS and/or GOS daily to feed probiotics

That's it. The protocol you use should focus on pH, no matter what. You can buy pH strips to test everything too. Good luck and I hope this helps you."

[YEA]  01/26/2013: Did Ya Know from Savannah, Ga: "Hello, everyone! I too suffered from BV [bacterial vaginosis] and tried a few things. I kind of had to narrow things down, after it became more frequent. I had to step back and ask myself what was I doing differently. Well.... I was having sex!
