SITZ BATH, LEMISOL, ANTIBIOTIC OINTMENT
[YEA] 11/24/2008: BD from Philipsburg, St.Maarten, Netherlands Antilles writes: "For my BV I have done a sitz bath for about 10 minutes, then i wash with a femenine wash called "Lemisol", after the wash i applied over the counter triple antibiotic ointment. Within 2-3days the itching stopped completly."

1 SIDE EFFECT
[SIDE EFFECTS] 01/07/2009: Dee from Atlanta, Ga writes: "I was suddenly stricken with BV for almost a year since my husband and I stopped using condoms. I used this site and tried almost everything recommended- Acidophilus pills (orally and using a meat syringe to take vaginally), folic acid, mild soap, and peroxide. Nothing seemed to work. I went to the doctor on and off only to be prescribed medicine. He didn't know the cause either. After much research, I found that no one really knows the cause. I tried to find ways to elimate the problem. I ate yogurt, cut back on sweets, and made other small changes to determine the cause. It would mostly flare up after sex and go on and off until my period. It would disappear right before my period and come back about a week or two later. When I told my husband that I suspected that he was infecting me and that he needed to wash prior to sex he exclaimed that he always did. He then indicated that he always washed himself with some type of men's deoderant soap. He immediately stopped and began using a mild soap. Now I have been bv free for three weeks!!!! I have no discharge runny, greenish, etc. at all! I wanted to share this tip in case you ladies are too embarrased to ask your partner what he could be doing to contribute to the problem. It very well may be something as simple as the soap he uses to wash his genitals. Ask him to wash with a mild soap and see if that works. I hope this helps someone out there who is suffering like I once was."

[YEA] 12/19/2009: Dj from Pdx, Or writes: "Forgotten BV Remedy
Ladies, we all know that once you get BV it can take multiple treatments to rid ourselves of it. 20 gazillion acidophilus pills, H202 douches, garlic baths. The list goes on and on. Everything works and for a week or two pure bliss and then suddenly its back.
Last night I started on round 4 (or 5) of my latest bout. I had run out of acidophilus and stopped by my favorite little store to purchase more. I set a bottle of peppermint extract on the counter and my friend shouts "Oh, my gosh!" She ran around the counter and pulled down another bottle. She had been so busy with the holidays and I had shoved my bottle in the cabinet because it had worked so well the last time I used it that we both forgot about it.
The "it" would be Spilanthes Usnea, an herbal extract. Surprisingly it does not taste too bad, at least the brand I have does not taste bad. It can be used both externally, to put out the "vaginal flambé", and internally, just 30 to 40 drops in a cup of water. I believe it helps the bladder too. This worked so well the first time that after less than one week of using it my BV was gone. It was gone for over a year. I won't forget I have it again."

[YEA] 08/12/2008: Joyce from Joelton, Tn writes: "To Sandy from Henderson: Yes, Sandy, applying ACV to itchy areas usually relieves the itching. My suggestion is to put a cup of ACV in his bath water (to relieve the itching & also protect from bug bites) and then try leaving off any soap, bubble baths, etc. because it may be the soap that is drying his skin and causing the itching. In most cases, the soap isn't really needed. All you really need for cleanliness is just some good old water and a washcloth. If he doesn't itch while you are omitting soap, you will know that you have found the cause. You will also find that you like the way he smells without the soap better than with the soap. I learned this from a little lady in her 60's about 30 years ago. She told me "My daddy was a chemist and he always told us that if you didn't use soap, you won't need deoderants because soap makes you stink. I stopped using soap (except for handwashing) in l982 and I found her daddy was right. Your sweat doesn't smell either, and you don't have that fishy odor all the EC users who complain of BV. Also decreases most of the foot odors too."
[NAY] 11/22/2008: Karen from Charlotte, NC replies: "Joyce, while we appreciate your input, it is upsetting that you think we are all just smelly because of soap. While I agree that if you wash your private area with regular bar soap, it does make a fishy odor for some reason, i do not agree that it is the only reason for it. The fishy smell from bv comes from inside your vaginal canal. It is the discharge that smells, not just the outer skin. A lot of women who have bv stop using soap in hopes that it will make it go away. Some are lucky and soap was the problem, but the rest of us who did stop using soap, and it is still there, are still dealing with it. It is upsetting when people try to make light of a situation that they have never experienced. If soap was the only cause of bv, there wouldnt be so many women on EC trying every possible combination of anything they could think of to get rid of it."
[YEA] 11/23/2008: Joyce from Joelton, Tn replies: "Hi Karen, I apologize if I have offended you. I never take anyone's health complaints lightly, but I do always try to go for the least harmful and simplest remedies first. I believe that we all should follow Hippocrates' (the father of Medicine?) advice which was "First of all, do no harm" and leaving off using any unnecessary product is least likely to cause harm."

[YEA] 05/27/2009: Alexandria from Pace, FL writes: "Okay ladies, over the last 6 months I have been researching home cures for BV. I had my last try at getting rid of this life sucking monster via abx. So I came across this site, I had already tried the Acidophilus and the H2O2 (with no success), a few weeks ago I tried the 400 mcg of folic acid twice a day. It seemed to be working but I still had small amounts of discharge (wearing panty liners all the time-not a life) and I had to make sure I took the supplement at the same time twice a day.
My point ladies is this-
When I was trying to cure my BV with abx my gyn gave me a list of food items to alter my diet. She explained that my pH was out of balance (which make is easier for bacteria to flourish) and I needed to become more alkaline. Basically what it came down to was I needed to give up all of the good tasting foods in my life... NOPE, that is not the life I want to live. Many of the green leafy veg and other alkalizing foods are high in folic acid and B vitamins but I also noticed that Evening Primrose oil was on the list of alkaline foods. And so I began taking a supplement of 1000 mg twice a day without regard for timing and OMG!!! I am back to my old...LOVE BEING A WOMAN self!!
Just wanted you all to know about my results and what has worked for me. Good luck to all of you!!"

I've visited the doctor for more than a few times for antibiotics (metronidazol 7days), after the 3rd time I was treated, my doctor said most patients she have treated had mentioned bad eating habits. I thought about what she said because I too have bad eating habits and decided to take multi vitamins along with acidophilus ( for additional good bacteria) and prayer. I started taking the vitamins after I completed the antibiotics to put the good bacteria back into my body. It's been 2 weeks now and so far so good. I couldn't wait to tell you all about this. I hope this recommendation can help some if not all.
1 - multi vitamin with multi mineral complete
2 - acidophilus 2billion
prayer daily
You'll hear back from me if this horrible BV thing comes back.
Good Luck and May God Bless and Heal your body."

1 BETTER BUT NOT CURED
[BETTER BUT NOT CURED] 10/13/2009: Angela from Portland, Oregon writes: "I have been suffering with BV on and off for about a year now. I am in my early twenties and newly married, so as you know this is very frustrating!
Antibiotics, both oral and gel, worked for me the first couple times, but now I am suffering constantly. There is a constant discharge and burning sensation when I urinate, almost like a UTI, but not quite. I have had cultures done for everything from a yeast infection to chlamydia with negative results to all of them. This means without a doubt that this "infection" I have had for the past FEW MONTHS has been BV.
I have been on this website almost everyday since I discovered it a couple weeks ago. I have tried a couple things with positive results to everything. I have been taking 2-6 400 mcg Folic Acid tablets a day in congunction with a popular wellness company's multivitamin (because you must take a vitamin b complex with the folic acid in order for it to work effectively) along with 28 million units of probiotics a day. All of this worked very well, but did not cure the BV completely.
I found that any time I ate something with added sugar the BV flared up. Also, not taking the above mentioned supplements regularly is useless-- it will just come right back. I have to say though, it DID help a lot. However, I want it GONE!
I just went to the local pharmacy and purchased Boric Acid and double zero gel capsules to try. I will let everyone know how it goes in a couple of days.
BV is seriously a curse and I don't wish it upon my worst enemies. I was about to give up and continue with the antibiotics but I searched the internet for hours looking for a natural remedy and I found this website. I am so grateful for this website and all of the people that have contributed their stories... especially the women being so open and honest about their vajayjays, that takes some guts! It is great to know I'm not alone."

[YEA] 12/02/2009: Carrie from Chicago, Il writes: "Yay for tea tree oil! Like many other people, I have suffered from BV for a year and was on several different antibiotics. As soon as I stopped treatment, the infection returned. Frustrated, I began to explore alternative treatments. I tried just about everything under the sun: hydrogen peroxide, apple cider vinegar, folic acid, acidophilus, garlic; nothing worked. Having read that everyone's body is different I kept at it, but it was a difficult process to find my miracle cure. Tea tree oil changed everything. I douche with it every couple days or as soon as symptoms start appearing. After one treatment the symptoms are gone. I use 15-20 mL of water and 12 drops of tea tree oil, but start with much less oil (1 or 2 drops) and see what you can handle, because it will burn, especially if the vagina is inflamed and sore."

It seems to be very effective. i have taken the acidophillus chewables that are delicious, about 5 or 6 a day, i pop them like candy and i purchased the folic acid. i also tried the hydrogen peroxide wash. the pills did not really work for me. the hydrogen peroxide worked great as a quick douche to eliminate the smell which was horrid, and oh so embarrasing.
i have bought tea tree oil, and im trying that now, so far so good, no smell at all. please be careful and read up on it becuz its very powerful, saturate a tampon with olive oil or ky jelly so the tea tree oil does not absorb into the tampon, and add a few drops to the tampon about 6 or 7, and stick it in and continue with your evening. tea tree oil is an antiseptic and its natural. i refuse to take that nasty flagyl or another cream, i have it but i refuse. ever since i used that nuva ring i've had bv i swear and i am hating this. my boyfriend is turned off and i want to cry. ughhh.
anyway bv has a lot to do with your insides, u need to get a colonic also, to start digesting properly that my be a cause also. the bacteria in your digestive track may be entering your vaginal walls causing the problem."

"Another holistic cure for Bacterial Vaginosis is the usage of Tea Tree Oil suppositories. To use this method, you insert Tea Tree Oil suppositories into the vagina or you dilute the oil and then use it. Note, however, that Tea Tree Oil must always be diluted first in order to be safely used and should never be applied directly to the vagina without being diluted, as this can cause an allergic reaction and a strong burning sensation.

[YEA] 07/28/2009: Alix J from Houston, TX writes: "Hello everyone, I am estatic. I am so pleased with this natural remedy for BV that I will continue to use this if this issue ever arises again.
I bought vinegar/water douche (I used ____) and a bottle of 3% hydrogen peroxide. I poured half (1/2) of the ready made douche into a clean cup and then filled the douche bottle with hydrogen peroxide (H2O2). I laid down on my back and used the douche as instructed. I held the mixture inside of my vagina for about 5 mins and then released the mixture into the toilet. Then I rinsed the outside of my vagina with the remaining douche mixture I poured into the cup. I did this once daily for a week. I had no irritation from this.
I also took one garlic supplement and one folic acid approx 400mcg daily for a week.
There is no smell or discharge coming from my vagina. I also continued to have sex. If necessary I douched afterward. I personally recommend that if you can avoid sex please do during the process."

He researched and was desperate to find a cure for her and claims he found one! He linked alot of BV problems seemed to be hormonal problems and had her to take 100mg of vitamin B6 a day along with her multivitamin and she has been BV free for some time. I hope this is the answer I started taking the B6 this evening. Only time will tell. Thank you for your posts!"

Today I haven't had any discharge yet and it's after 2:00 p.m. I have no odor whatsoever either! If I have to take vitamin B6 forever I will do it just to keep BV away! It sure beats having to insert stuff in your vagina all the time! Thank you all!"
[YEA] 09/04/2009: Misty from Choctaw, Ok replies: "It has been 8 days since my last post on B6. It is definitely a "YEA"! I highly recommend it to anyone who probiotics (in and out of the vagina), folic acid, hydrogen peroxide, yogurt (in and out of the vagina), olive leaf extract, B-complex vitamins, etc.... did not work for. I don't know if my hormones were out of whack for being on birth control pills for 20 years or what, but nothing has worked like 100 mg of vitamin B6 in addition to my multivitamin. I even had sex a couple of days ago and no sign of BV, which is awesome because it comes back usually the day after! One woman on another site reported being cured after one day and another about three days. Just be careful because you can overdose on B6, but 100mg in addition to your multivitamin I was told was safe. Good luck, ladies."

[YEA] 05/26/2009: Monica from Los Angeles, CA writes: "First of all, my heart truly goes out to all BV sufferers. It is the worst thing I've had to deal with as a female. I've been dealing with it off and on for over ten years. When the antibiotics didn't work and only worsened things, I started looking to home remedies, which proved to be more effective. My first home remedy was a store-bought suppository for yeast infections that contained BORIC ACID. This really cured the BV infection prior to my most recent one. When I acquired my most recent infection, I went to purchase the product but learned that BORIC ACID was no longer an active ingredient as the FDA ordered the makers to pull it from the market. I tried the new formula, and it did nothing for me. So here are the steps I took to cure my latest infection.
Made my own BORIC ACID pills: I used the suppositories every night for one week. This remedy cause LOTS of discharge as well. This did not work for me this time around. I have no idea why, but it just didn't work. It does work for many women, but all women are not the same, and it failed me this last time.
HYDROGEN PERODIXE DOUCHE: I started out 50/50 water/hydrogen perodixe. This really helped with the symptoms and gave me some relief but did not stop the discharge. I then graduated to a full-strength hydrogen peroxide only douche. I do not recommend this for women who are experiencing buring or sensitivity as a result of BV. For me, it was OK and did not burn as I was not experiencing burning. This kept discharge and irritation under control, but it did not cure my infection.
FOLIC ACID: 800 mg in the AM and PM. Did nothing for me.
PROBIOTIC SUPPOSITORY: Did nothing for me.
TEA TREE OIL DOUCHE: I did this for one night after the hydrogen peroxide douche did not work. This was OK, but I did not see any improvement. In fact, I felt more irritated after douching.
TEA TREE OIL SUPPOSITORY: Smells awful, and it really did not work for me.
WHAT FINALLY WORKED: VITAMIN C SUPPOSITORY! After hours and hours of research looking for remedies, I came across an excerpt from a book titled the Women's Encyclopedia of Natural Medicine. In it were some home remedies for "vaginitis." One entry was on the use of VITAMIN C 250 mg as a suppository for 6 days straight. After reading the entry, I did some further research and found studies online citing some great results with VITAMIN C suppositories. The research stated tha the ascorbic acid in a 250 mg tablet of VITAMIN C helps to acidify the vagina, thus lowering the PH and making it a favorable environment for lactobaccili and NONfavorable environment for nonbeneficial bacterial. I figured, what the heck, I've tried everything else. Here's what I did. I went to a popular vitamin store and purchaesed a bottle of straight VITAMIN C 250 mg. Make sure that you are using straight VITAMIN C. There are many Vitamin C combo pills that are buffered, contain rose hips, calcium, etc. You do not want to use any Vitamin C that contains other minerals. (((NOTE: Many drug stores did not carry Vitamin C 250 mg. I couldn't even find it in a popular natural foods chain store, which is why I went to a vitamin store. They carry more varieties.)))
Once I purchased the pills, I went home and inserted one pill that night. The next morning, I had a lot of the typical white BV discharge but I continued. The second night, I did the same thing. The next morning. I did not notice any discharge except for the gritty discharge from the suppository PLUS no BV odor. I continued and did not notice ANYMORE white discharge or odor for the rest of the six days. You will notice the gritty discharge from the pill throughout treatment, but that's pretty much it. Also, the discharge is NOT even close to that when using boric acid suppositories. My theory was that the first night, the acid from the pill was causing my vagina to flush itself of the bad bacteria.
As for women who have used this remedy and reported serious irritation, I wonder if they used too high of a dosage. I couldn't find anything lower than 500 mg at my local drug store, which is TWICE the recommended dosage. So if you are doubling the dosage, that's twice the acid. This is probably why there's so much irritation. Make sure to get the 250 mg. My bottle cost $2.99.
Also noted in the exceprt I read was using supplementation as a means to maintain the vaginal mucosa. It said vitamin A was a good supplement to maintain vaginal mucosa as well as vitamin C.
I hope this works for you. Remember, we are all different. What works for one woman may not work for another. I tried just about every POPULAR home remedy from Earth Clinic and shoved whatever I thought would work into my vagina until I FINALLY found some relief. This will be my go to method when I start to feel that all-too-familiar feeling of BV creeping up on me."

After days of suffering and going to the doctor (I got antibiotics and Diflucan, which didn't seem to help at all) I was really pleased to find this site. Inserting 2 acidolphilus pills and taking 2 capsules of oil of oregano / day helped, but I still felt sick and very uncomfortable! I was also taking supplements to boost my immune system, like zinc and deodorized garlic pills and echinacea, but I still felt horrible. What finally seems to be helping the most is drinking more vitamin C and actually eating garlic in my food (instead of just taking it in supplement form.) I'm also going to try ginger and a little bit of raw unprocessed honey. If your immune system isn't up to speed, the other things won't work, and in some cases you might need to actually eat and drink differently in order to help it, instead of just taking supplements!
Also, for me, coconut oil relieves pain or itching temporarily when it is applied topically."

Here is the only thing that worked for me... MY CURE. I am a very studious person, love to research in the library. Doctors always told me my labwork came back normal. You will not believe how simple it turned out to be. I increased the amount of Vitamin D. I added Vitamin D3 to the regular multivitamin that I take daily. I went to WholeFoods Supermarket and purchased VITAMIN D3 (IT MUST BE D3). I take 2000 IU of Vitamin D3. And I also still take the multivitamin. LADIES THIS WORKED for me. We american's dont get enough sunshine cause we drive everywhere and wear sunblock, etc. Also I have always worked fulltime in a desk job. NO SUNLIGHT. EVER. Only get sun during the minutes I drive. Also I've stopped drinking milk due to intolerance, so I don't get vitamin D from milk either.
I researched at a medical library, the effects of being low on sunshine (or vitamin D)....and BV (vaginosis) is a side-effect of not getting enough vitamin D !!!! The medical article said that women with this BV (fishy odor) condition should be taking at least 2000 IU per day.
Warning is you should not take over 5000 IU. THE GOOD NEWS is, I've been BV free ever since. No odor, not even after sexual relations, NO ODOR at all. One thing is to take it religiously along with a multivitamin and a probiotic. And wait at least one month to see results. Also I stopped douching anymore. But this did it for me! Try it it's worth a try! I was desperate and Ifinally found this CURE for me personally after having this awful BV for almost one year and a half....have a happy holiday! Spread this solution to other ladies suffering unnecessarily."

EC: Hi Robert,
These posts are typically from people visiting the site for the first time who are very excited to try a remedy after reading all the positive feedback and have to write in. Sweet, no? We want newcomers to feel welcomed at Earth Clinic, ergo why we post the "Going to Try..." feedback.

What I found that sucker punched this issue is an over the counter herbal medication called Yeast Arrest vaginal suppositories. You can get them at health food stores like Sprouts and maybe You may think that it is just for yeast infections but it has Calendula offinalis in it which kills bacteria. It also has boric acid and Berberis aquifolium in it. You insert the tablets in the vagina and they dissolve in there. You can also buy Calendula Officinalis liquid drops to drink mixed with just a little water to get a full body cleansing to go along with it. By the 2nd day, I had no odor, no discharge and no more of those little cramps. You do have to use panty liners though because the herbs do come back out. You only have to use in the morning and at night for 7 days. My period came on and I still had nothing but freshness coming from my body. I feel so free."

I stumbled onto this site and found the comments on HP, Acidophilus and folic acid. Nothing worked permanently. Then I read the comments on Yeast Arrest. It works. It is has now been gone for months. Thanks to the reader who posted this comment. I hope others will take advantage of this product."
09/24/2008: Andrea from Clinton Twp., Michigan replies: "I have suffered from BV on and off for over a year. I have been to the doc four times and tried clindesse, metrogel, and flagyl for five straight weeks! What do you know, the BV came back with a vengance! I then came across this site. I also bought an ebook and have been using the remedies in the book for over 3 weeks but nothing seems to be working permanently. I've tried HP, ACV, and I eat yogurt (plain) twice a day and even break up an acidophilus pill into the yogurt for some extra precaution. I insert at least 2 acidophilus pills into my vagina per day (3 billion live organisms per pill), and still, the BV comes back, usually in the morning when I haven't douched with HP for 24 hours. I am really at my wit's end with this thing. I haven't had sex with my NEW husband (that's right, I'm a newly wed and not having sex!!!) more than 3 times in the past 4 months bc it is either painful or just uncomfortable. We only use condoms so I know the problem is not semen. Also, I have changed my dryer sheets to hypoallergenic no perfumes or dyes, my detergent the same thing, and I don't wash with soap down there, only water or MILD soap on the OUTSIDE only. I feel as though I'm doing everything right. I am also taking Folic Acid 800mg in the morning, 800mg before bed. Still not a lot of improvement. My issues include itching, redness, swelling, and discharge, not so much an odor, thank God. What I'm getting at is, I'm going to try the Yeast Arrest now, and I'm going to buy an even stronger pro-biotic like Ultimate Probiotic with 13 billion live organisms. This, I think, may be my last hope before going to a new GYN for a second opinion. I will report back in a week to let you know if there is any permanent improvement. Wish me luck. If anyone has had this same experience I would love to hear your feedback. Good luck to you all!! I feel for you. This nightmare sucks, and affects your life in more ways than one. Let's stick together ladies... all we have is each other!"
10/13/2008: Andrea from Clinton Twp., MI replies: "Ok Ladies! So I said I would report back and here I am. It has been over 2 weeks since my last posting because I wanted to make sure I saw results before I wrote again. Here's what i've done since my last post: 1) I decided to stop douching to see if maybe my vagina would calm down a bit. I thought it might be irritated from all the messing around i've been doing down there!! 2) I went to the store and bought the Vagisil screening kit to test my ph level--found out it was the normal 4.5!! 3) Still had discharge (white and clumpy this time, not the typical BV discharge), itching, and irritation so I bought Yeast Guard (I couldn't find Yeast Arrest anywhere!!) and inserted it once a day for 7 days. Since then, there has been a LOT of improvement! I still don't know if i'm cured for sure bc the day after i was done with the yeast guard, I got my period and that lasted for 6 days. Now, I'm having some minor itching, but not too much discharge, and no burning. Now my issue is, I'm not sure if the yeast infection was not all the way cured, or now maybe i have a very minor case of bv again from my period. And remember ladies, you can get bv just from having your monthly cycle! Blood has a ph of about 7.0 (don't quote me on this bc I dont know the exact number but i do know it's higher than 4.5, where we are supposed to be), which can throw off your ph balance every time you have your period! Which is total BS if you ask me, but what can you do? So, this is where I'm at now. Nothing major, just a minor itch, but not even all day, just every now and then. This is much improved from where I was just 3 weeks ago, so if you're unsure ladies, I would go buy the screening kit (you can get it at any drugstore...I got mine at CVS), see what your ph level is, and go from there. I am going to a new GYN just to make sure everything is all clear down there. But, I have learned my lesson...if I still have a little case of BV, I will certainly NOT be taking antibiotics, NO MATTER WHAT!! A little secret...before I went for my annual exam last year, I had NO symptoms of BV. My doc told me I had it, so i used the Clindesse she prescribed, and BAM! I had MAJOR issues, almost IMMEDIATELY. Remember that antibiotics will only make your bv worse. If your doc diagnoses you with BV, my suggestion would be to try some at home remedies. Believe me, I've learned my lesson. I'll report back after my GYN appt. (which is next week) to let you know what she says!! Good luck gals! I think i may even try and have sex with my hubby this week...we'll see what happens!"
10/26/2008: Andrea from Clinton Twp., MI replies: "Ok ladies...I'm back to let you know the feedback i got from my new GYN. She was awesome, and VERY receptive to my at home remedies, unlike my last doctor. I told her about the HP, ACV, and acidophilus, and she actually told me i did the right thing! I couldn't believe it! Ladies, if this helps you at all, try and find a gyno who is a good listener, and who doesn't force antibiotics on you. Anywho, back to the results...she checked me out and told me that after looking under the microscope, I still have just a TAD bit of BV left, no yeast. She also told me that I have absolutely NO lactobacillus acidophilus bacteria in my vagina!! This was puzzling to me since I have been inserting the pills and taking probiotics orally for at least a couple months now. Here's what I'm thinking...the reason I have no lactobacilli in my vagina is bc i was on antibiotics for 5 weeks straight...it killed all of them. Second, the reason I have BV left is bc there aren't any good bacteria to keep the bad in check. Third, the reason the inserts weren't working is probably bc they don't dissolve like they do in the digestive tract.
To solve this problem I immediately went out and found some liquid lactobacillus acidophilus and using a syringe, squirted some directly up there (i believe you can also soak a tampon in it and use that if you don't have a syringe). This way, you are putting it exactly where it needs to be. It has been 2 days since I started this method of healing, and I haven't had any major issues. I had sex with my hubby this morning and had a bit of itching afterward, so i washed with mild soap and water (ONLY on the outside) and then inserted some acidophilus. After i did that the itching was almost all the way gone.
From here on out, forever, I plan on keeping my regimen of 13 billion oral probiotics and 800mg of folic acid, morning and night, eating yogurt with lunch, and once or twice a week inserting some liquid acidophilus just to keep a healthy vagina. So far I am not all the way cured, but almost there. I really hope my story helps some people out. I know BV is a complete nightmare, and a continuing battle for a lot of women. I will continue to post my experiences on this website, in the hopes of helping other women like myself. Hang in there ladies!! Good luck and God Bless."

[BETTER BUT WITH SIDE EFFECTS] 06/21/2009: Blondiemurph from Oldenburg, Germany writes: "Hello! I recently discovered problems "down there" - a new odor and a new discharge that wasn't there before. After doing some research, I think I have B.V. I don't currently have insurance (I'm American living in Germany and it's hard to get anything not private and expensive) so I haven't seen a doctor. I'm more interested in home remedies anyway. I read on this site about taking folic acid and acidopholus pills - I happened to have some from the states so I've been taking them for two days with very good results. I also tried the whole dipping-the-tampon-in-yogurt thing, which is very messy! I tried this yesterday and today - yesterday I just dipped a tampon without an applicator in "joghurt pur" (translates to pure yogurt, which I'm hoping means it has live cultures in it. It's also the organic "bio" kind) and inserted it and felt fine. Today I tried taking a tampon out of an applicator, filling the applicator with yogurt and inserting it, figuring it'd be similar to a yeast infection treatment that way, but I had bad cramping. Not like normal period cramping either. It was strange. So now I'm wondering if that was a bad idea. I took the tampon out, expecting discharge, but got nothing. 2 hours later, still nothing. Has anyone else tried the yogurt dipping and gotten cramps before? Or can anyone describe something else to try besides other pills? I can't get all the same stuff as in the U.S. I appreciate any advice, and thank all the ladies for the previous advice!!"
