[YEA] 09/22/2008: Wes from Woodstock Ont., Ontario Can. writes: "I have had 5 degenerative discs in my lower back for about 5 years. The Drs say go home and live with it Surgery is to dangerious. I have been taking corizone injections every three months, but they only last a short while.
My brother-in -law told me about DMSO and he had some on hand. I tried it by putting some on a peace of gauze and appling it to my lower back. I then covered it with saran wrap. After 24 hours the pain was gone and i did this twice a day for 4 days. Since then i only use it when i feel my back starting to hurt. This pain was also causing my right testicle to swell and was very painful. Since using DMSO, I now have relief again and the testicle has gone back to normal.
By the way I'm 79 years old.
Thankful for DMSO and my brother-in -law for telling me about it."

[YEA] 11/21/2008: Donna from Yuma, AZ - USA writes: "I have had lower back pain for years and sciatica started a few months back when I fell. I have read numerous remedies. So I combined everyones suggestions and came up with these. Drink a mixture of cut ginger root (5-7 slices), turmeric and curry powder, (1/2 tsp)in a tall shaker container,(I steep in hot water for 5-10 min. then fill the rest w/cool water). Also have been doing the ACV, (3 tblspn) in water through out the day, (same container). Like OMG, what a difference. Also bought the VCO and put all over my body. My aches and even the "squeeking" of my knees when I kneel/bend are gone. I have always tried to go natural and have many books on herbs, etc. This website is AWSOME!! Oh, also the cold showers - WOW, what a difference. I always wondered when I swimming in the ocean and the water was about 65 my back never hurt - Eureka - now I know."

ELIMINATE DAIRY

[YEA] 02/18/2007: Chris from Atlanta writes: "Had crazy making lower back pain from age 14(!) to 25 when finally my new therapist told me to go off dairy and give it a chance for only 3 weeks. I gave it a chance although my "diet" up to then was probably made out of up to 60% dairy products. after 3 weeks my back pain was COMPLETELY GONE! dairy sucks!!!"
Replies[YEA] 07/20/2009: Boblack from Germantown, MD replies: "I have experienced bad back pain ever since junior year of high school where during a heavy lifting session I injured my back. After spending a lot of money on drugs and physical therapists, I can truly say nothing works better than just eliminating diary from my diet, sleeping on the floor, and doing several ab exercises. I have been doing these three things for the last two months and have noticed a significant reduction in my lower back pain. For those of you who complain they can enjoy the favorite breakfast foods without milk I suggest trying rice or soy milk or If you don't care like me just use water."
03/30/2010: Oly from London, United Kingdom replies: "I am a 53 years old woman I was diagnosed with lumber prolapse about two years ago and have been living with pain on my back as well sciatica pain down to my legs. I came to this site in my quest for cure or management. Please can anyone tell me what I can do to get rid of this pain. I have spent money visiting chiropractors, chinese acunpuncture and massage, several heat pads and regular pain killers which does not have effect. Please help god bless you
Oly"
03/31/2010: Phil from Dearing, Ga replies: "Hello Oly, You stated you have seen chiropractors for your condition. Well in my opinion there is only one type of chiropractor that actually works... The practice you will be looking for is called the GONSTEAD.
Ask your chiropractor what method he or she uses. Find one that does the Gonstead method. The older the chiropractor usally the better.
You can research it yourself using Google, But there is a big difference in the Gonstead method and other chiropractor treatments. If a Gonstead practicing chiropractor can't fix you, then it may be DDD.
There is also some stuff on here already under the Ailments section but one thing that comes to mind is magnesium. I believe Ted, somewhere on here recommended magnesium for back related issues. The key in the magnesium seems to be its ability to make the muscles stregthen add hold the bones in thier proper places.
Stretches and stregthen the Ab muscle will also help.
My chiropractor told me the Key to a healthy back, Is a strong core ( Midsection of a person )
Ab muscles equals strong back.
I hope you DO NOT have degenerative disc disease, because my mother had sciatica problems and found out she had DDD. She had to have surgery and has never fully recovered. Her bones never fused back together. It has been two years now."
03/31/2010: Phil from Dearing, Ga replies: "Oh and Oly, NEVER EVER use heat pads instead always use ice packs.
My father always believed in heat, But again My chiropractor always told me to never use HEAT. Heat can temporally paralyze you. Make your condition worse... You want to Ice for 15 minutes on and 15 minutes off, repeated for maybe say an hour."

GENERAL FEEDBACK
11/13/2009: Linloo from Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada writes: "I have suffered with neck and back pain for over two years and I also suffer with severe stiffness in joints and muscles for approximately 10 minutes after rising in the morning and from sitting positions. All your suggestions sound wonderful, but where should I start? I am 50 years old and very active. Once I start moving I feel great and have a lot of energy. Its when I stop for a little while."

12/15/2008: April from Bonney Lake, WA writes: "Since herniating my low back on the job about a decade ago, I have experienced chronic pain, massive weight gain (130 lbs), depression, hair loss, and an overwhelming feeling of CHRONIC fatigue. No matter how many hours of sleep I get, when I wake up I feel like I have been repeatedly mowed over by a large truck. Name the supplement, I probably have it sitting on my kitchen counter; I've developed a "taste aversion" to any nutritional supplement. Swallowing vitamins can make me gag, even though I know they could possibly help.
As of today, I have had my second MRI and my condition is worsening. My disc is almost non-existent, herniated out both sides at L4-5. My other herniated disc, S1, is almost as bad. Extreme arthritis and disc degeneration is present. My ortho wants to give me nerve shots of steriods of some sort, under x-ray procedure, then perform surgery. Five years ago I had a microdiscectomy that relieved some of the leg pain. I've just come off of a week of Prednisone, and like clockwork, I've gained 10 more pounds!!!
Along with back pain, I'm also dealing with depression associated with my husband dying of ALS. This has put a double strain on my emotional and physical health.
I'm tired of trying things that do not work. I'm tired of being forced to take painkillers because it's the only form of relief I can get. I'm tired of being short, fat, and balding. Feeling 90 instead of a vibrant 42 is really a sorry state to be in, and at times the feeling of hopelessness is overwhelming. HELP!!!!!"
08/25/2009: April from Pleasant Grove, Ut replies: "April-
So sorry to hear about your hubby and all the health problems you're enduring. I wish I had the answer that is perfect for you- but I don't. I just wanted to let you and everyone who reads EarthClinic to know that even when it seems like no one has the answers- there's One who does... so maybe through PRAYER you'll find the peace you're searching for. God Bless you!"
08/26/2009: Andi from St. Paul, Mn replies: "Dear April, I suggest you look into non-surgical spinal decompression. My Chiropractor does it in her office. I've never had it done, but I know she has been able to help others a lot. It may not work for what you have, but it would sure be worth checking to see if someone in your area does the treatment. Good Luck!"

HEEL LIFTS

[YEA] 04/05/2011: Holly from Portland, Or writes: "For myself... I've had back problems ever since puberty and been through chiropractors, PT, Orthopedists, etc... And only did my recent chiropractor find I had a 3 MM!!! Difference in one leg. One very rarely correlated problem is for those who are HYPER FLEXIBLE, a very small leg-length difference can cause debilitating pain. I would get up in the morning and every breath I took would send shooting pains through my back and side. At any given time you could feel a knot that felt like bone, the size of a golf ball in my low back. Within 8 hours of using heel lifts, I noticed the pain all but disappeared. Now for the remaining VERY minor discomfort that sometimes I comes I stay exercised - focus on core strength."

[YEA] 05/06/2009: Handyman from Jonesborough, Tenneessee writes: "Hi for my back, I was told this by my doc....An I quote he say I will tell you what is wrong with your back in 20 minutes. WOW I thought. ( 1st let me tell you about him, he is old school, he is 75 yrs young...lol) Any way he took ex-rays, on my lower back an legs an show me on my legs, he put a ruler on the ex-rays an showed me that one leg was almost 1/4 inch shorter than the other, an wrote a script to go to the leather shop an make me a lift out of leather. (about the middle of the foot to the heal, an slipped in under my shoe liner) Well that day I ask him, how come other doc's did not know this an he said......O Mitch they did know, that it would put them out of business, he said that the doc would send you home, WITH DRUGS, an come back next week, for a check up. (PAID HIM TWICE). Also he said that the Chiropractor would like me to keep coming back all the time so they could make alot of money. So then I ask him how is it that one leg is shorter than the other, an he told me that most people have that problem, cause as you are growing, you most of the time carry everything on one side. (exsample If you are RIGHT HANDED that the right leg would be shorter.......now this made sense to me cause I am LEFT HANDED an my left leg WAS shorter than the other. PRETTY SMART HUH well it made sense to me. Needless to say my back was much better, an has been for yrs, hardly ever any pain unless I over do it. An o did i tell you that I was in terrible pain for 11 yrs, an I seen all kind of doctors, also 4 chiroprators. My doc told me no offence to you but I would just like to see you only twice a year for your check ups. Great doctor huh! Well I hope this info my help some one out, it worked for me. I really like this site."
RepliesEC: I heard the same thing from my friend, an Osteopath in NYC. The heel lift apparently helps right away!

11/22/2011: Jasonmchicago from Chicago, Il Usa replies: "My body has been totally out of balance. I went to a Neuromuscular Osteopath and they noticed my hips were off... Which I knew but never mentioned anything about leg length. I had broken my leg over a decade ago and I kept saying that my legs don't feel the same size throughout the years. I thought it was all in my head and becuase I didn't exercise or do the right PT to heal the muscles/liagments/tendons. I told people here and there but never go a real "test" to what was going on. Anyway I had lower back pain for years, couldn't sleep well, and had knee pain. I just felt like a marionette doll!!! Shoulder pain, neck pain, back pain, facial pain, everything was out of whack.Anyway I read Earthclinic all the time and said maybe it is REAL. I saw the heel lift comment and ordered one immediately. Actually I ordered two version waiting to get them in the mail. Then I thought I'd just use what I have around the house. So I got a couple of kitchen sponges put them in my shoes and BOOM! By the next days things settled down a little. I cannot wait until I get my heel lifts.... I think they will really help realign things along with yoga, etc. Geez!!!! To think that ALL THESE years I had been walking weird and things were so bad for no reason.
Thank you for all the folks who post on this site.
QUESTION: What is the best doctor to get an official diagnosis so I know how many mm my legs are off and that can help me monitor the realignment of things? Osteopath? Chiro? MD? I hate the endless search for "specialist" who don't know much about anything! :)
Best, JMC"
11/23/2011: Jeff from Nashville, Tn replies: "Jason, Look for a "Nucca" chiroprator in your area. They focus on your your head/neck Atlas. The first check they do is a leg length check. Google this and it will make sense. It worked for me!"

HERNIATED DISC
12/06/2011: Maggie G. from Laredo, Texas/usa writes: "Hi,
I would like to use the hyaluronic acid remedy suggested by Ted for herniated disc. The problem is I can not take salt. Ted mentioned that the salt will keep the HA from spoiling and is the second ingredient. What else should I add? Please help!"
Replies12/06/2011: Dud from From The Woods Of, Wv, Usa replies: "Maggie G;The salt is added to the hyaluron water solution to act as a preservative when making a pint or quart volume. If you can not take the salt, them make a smaller volume, and consume it in 24 to 48 hours, at the correct dose;... Then mix up another small batch. In this way, the hyaluron will not have time to spoil, and you don't need a preservative in it.
Hyaluron is a protein type substance, and spoils easily. Keep it refrigerated and cold. Make smaller batches that will be used up fairly fast."

HOMEOPATHIC REMEDY SYMPHYTUM

[SIDE EFFECTS] 09/18/2009: Shobha from Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India writes: "My sister has scoliosis and slipped disc. Under Ayurveda treatment, she had recovered about 60%, when unfortunately, she took a homeopathy medicine called symphytum for about 10 days. An area on her spine became inflamed and is now causing her burning, pricking pain. She also experiences shooting pain down her legs, now and then. Apart from the spine, the buring sensation is felt also in the middle of her palms and soles. She is under allopathic treatment, now. The MRI shows compression of nerve due to the scoliosis and the slipped disc. She has just started the allopathy tablets now and though there is some relief, she is still in pain. I suppose a longer period is needed for the effect of the tablets to manifest. In the meantime, can someone suggest some simple remedy to remove this burning pain and inflammation, naturally? Thanks a lot."

HULA HOOP

[YEA] 09/23/2011: Francisca from Michelbach-le-bas, Alsace, France writes: "Is anybody doing hula hoop? I decided to try a while ago so I bought myself a little, inexpensive child's hoop but no way I was able to do anything with it except pick it up from the ground, try again, let it fall and pick it up again. Then I read that hula hoops for adults have to be a lot bigger and heavier so I ordered one from Amazon, a padded one and yes... Now I can hoop! Like most people I hoop better to one side than to the other but I learnt quite easily. To avoid bruising I bought myself a sweat band you tie around your waist and have therefore had hardly any bruising at all. The interesting thing is that since I have been doing it (and I haven't had a lot of time) my lower back pain seems to be a lot better. My reason for buying it was actually to get a slimmer waist but if it helps against back pain all the better. Anybody have any experience with this? Not easy to find the right hoop though as they are not sold in the shops here so you can't try them out. I would like to try doing some fun tricks but I am under the impression that this fitness hoop are not the right ones. Lots of videos online if you want to learn..."

INVERSION TABLE THERAPY
Ratings:
|
[YEA] 09/07/2010: Deirdre from Earth Clinic writes: "Ok, I've written on Earth Clinic before about the absolute wonders of an inversion table for neck and shoulder pain. Now I am here to tell you it's my #1 remedy to also get rid of low back pain.
I started to have chronic low back pain in August, which appeared to get worse with each new day. We had folded up the inversion table in the guest room a while back and I had basically forgotten about it for a number of months. I tried a number of remedies listed on the site, as well as massage and acupuncture. Nothing helped! Finally I remembered our inversion board (d'uh!) and took it out. I hung upside for about 3 minutes and 12 hours later, about 7 minutes more. The second time my back "popped" in 3 places as soon as I went to 90 degrees. The next day, I kid you not, my excruciating back pain was gone, my posture much improved, and my brain clearer & sharper than ever. I can't believe it was this easy. Chronic back pain gone in 10 minutes. I continue to hang upside at least once a day on the inversion board for 3 - 10 minutes and... yippee! no back pain. I HIGHLY recommend this for low back pain."
Replies09/08/2010: Phil from Dearing, Ga/usa replies: "Hi Deirdre. What type of inversion board do you have? I have read reviews on the net and alot of people complain and say the straps really hurt thier ankles. Does your hurt your ankles? It is my understanding that you strap the straps around your ankles and hang upside down. I know that my chiropractor, who is now deceased used to joke with me and tell me not to grab certain handles on his table or it would turn me upside down and do all kinds of wonderful. So I believe the inversion would be great, just questions about the ankles."
09/08/2010: Deirdre from Earth Clinic replies: "Hi Phil,I have the Ironman 1000. It doesn't use straps, it uses a spring-loaded ankle locking system. The trick is to wear sneakers or even timberland boots if the clamps hurt your ankles. I usually go barefoot without any issues as my ankle are fairly flexible, but I wouldn't suggest that for other people starting off. I also suggest you start slowly and not go into full inversion right away as there's a lot of pressure that builds up in the head. A friend of my husband's, a very healthy and flexible guy, pulled a hamstring the first time he tried it at our house when he was visiting! So yep, go slowly. Please let me know if you try it!"
09/09/2010: Lisa from Lafayette, La replies: "Just passing on something that my chiropractor told me last week. I told him I was doing the inversion table for neck pain. He told me I didn't need it, because it really only helps lower back pain. He also warned me that head pressure due to the inversion can cause strokes, high blood pressure, etc. He said, "I won't tell you NOT to do it, but I will warn you, don't invert more than 30 degrees. This is plenty for anyone and will avoid the hbp feeling in the head." Something to keep in mind."
09/10/2010: Carly from Seattle, Wa Usa replies: "I also have an inversion table that I ignored for months... (it was so easy to do! ) anyway, after having a bad flare up of my upper back I went back to using it, and it really is amazing how good it will make your back feel. I use it for 5 mins, usually 2x a day. Also - congratulations on the book! I absolutely will be ordering a copy. I am a longtime believer and user of ACV! Best, Carly"

MAGNESIUM

03/17/2011: Jill from Walnut Creek, Ca writes: "Greetings Earth Clinic Readers, After listening to a radio program recommended by an Earth Clinic commenter by Mark Sircus, I went and purchased some Magnesium Chloride tablets. It has been over four months now and I am thrilled with the results. I am forty years old and the tightness in my back had gotten so bad I couln't walk far without throwing it out of alignment creating more tightness. Not having insurance or money for a doctor, I decided to research the magnesium books and Dr. Mark Sircus' website. My hips have been tight since my late teens no matter how much yoga, walking, stretching I did. After starting with the Magnesium Therapy I'm happy to report an overall relaxation of the muscles in my body, so that I can now do therapeutic exercises without stressing my muscles. The magnesium supplements have taken away the pain and stiffness. I have purchased magnesium oil and am now using it transdermally. As a side note Dr. Sircus'advice about Iodine sounds very promising and I've just ordered iodine supplements as well.
Live long and prosper."

[YEA] 06/12/2009: Ted from Bangkok, Thailand writes: "I have a direct feedback from a couple of users of Inversion table for their back problems, while it goes away rather quickly it keeps coming back. The maximum time in reducing the problem is 4 days and then it comes again. It's no permanent solution otherwise they had to go to the hospital again and again or had to buy the machine. That's not the CAUSE of the problem. The problem is the muscles pull on the back along with the usual weight problem, but it's always the excess calcium in the muscle tissue and the nerves that causes the muscle pull back and "contract" causing a back problem. If it happens long enough it can cause spinal "compression".. To reverse this and see the result significantly is to just take the magnesium supplements. Not just any magnesium supplement, but the water soluble kind. The worse magnesium supplements I have ever seen is sold in most drug store, and if I read their ingredient, it's mostly worthless, such as magnesium phosphate, magnesium oxide and magnesium carbonate. These have very poor water solubility and is not bioavailable. Whenever the added wax on top of that to keep the tablets in nice form, they also block the absorption such as mangesium stearate. The other thing that prevents magnesium from being utilized is the problem of calcium carbonate or any calcium that is mixed in the supplements.
The best form of magnesium I have found are magnesium chloride has the least of the problem and the magnesium gluconate. After taking them sa 100-250 mg the muscle pain will be reduced within 30 minutes and most is gone by the third or fourth day, including the back pain. The key to using these forms of magnesium is to dilute with plenty of water so it won't have the laxative effect and cannot be mixed with any alkaline preparations such as baking soda or citrates. The magnesium is taken solo. One simple way to take it that I h ave used for the fastest acid reflux remedy is the magnesium solution at 60-80% plus distilled water at 20%-40% and prepare as a dropper where the dose is between 6-12 drops in a glass of water depending on your size the dose is adjusted accordingly. For example a person of 120 pounds will likely take 5 drops but a person twice that weight likely to take 10 drops in a glass of water. I prepare in dilutions such as this to prevent the laxative effect and hence greater magnesium absorption. This is the best of all remedies for most of the back pain problem I have noticed without the use of pain killers.
Ted"
09/25/2010: Meena from Fremont, Ca, Usa replies: "Hello Ted
I have a chronic low back pain and fibroid problem also. Yesterday I discovered this site and bought and started ACV baking soda first time and wondering can I start taking Magnesium also for my low back pain which I have it from last 3 years as I am scheduled to get the epidural shot on oct 15th2010. I have already tried this shot, acupuncture, physical therapy, chiropractor but nothing helped. So please advice it I want to start magnesium as I read you should avoid baking soda so can I take it after 2-3 hours of taking ACV baking soda. Thank you, Meena"
09/27/2010: Gabriela from Tola, Nicaragua replies: "Did you try Neural Therapy for managing the pain?"
01/28/2011: Dg from Rosemead, Ca, Usa replies: "Hi Ted, I've been having a lower back pain for over a year now, usually in the past when I had lower back pain, it goes away in a few days or so, not this time, I've tried almost everything from this site, BSM, ACV, resveratrol, resveratrol helps for the first week, then it came back, I'm trying hyaluronic acid as I'm typing this, it's been exactly a week today, I'm going to keep continue for another week or two, in the mean time, I also saw your other article that the most important is magnesium chloride, then I see it again in this article, so I suppose I should do both ?? in this article you mentioned the dilution which is 60 - 80 % MC and 20 - 40% distilled water, 5 - 10 drops depending on your weight, you didn't mention how many times per day you need to take 5 - 10 drops ?? is it 2 or 3 times ?? please advise, I'm much better now after the hyaluronic acid, but I still feel the discomfort in my lower back around morning time and when I sit down, I almost didn't feel any pain when I walk or work or even lift some heavy things.
Thank you Ted, greatly appreciate your article about hyaluronic acid and this article about magnesium chloride, I believe these will help me getting back in shape.
I appreciate some reader's inputs, but before Anyone Replies and suggesting me something, please keep in mind, I've tried almost EVERYTHING, from heat pack, ice pack, tons of chiropractors visits, inversion table, lumbar support, etc."
01/29/2011: Dorothy from Friedrichsdorf, Germany replies: "I also had a bout with severe back pain and nothing worked including many visits to the chiropractor. By chance I read the small print on my high blood pressure medicine which I had recently started taking and it says lower back pain could be a side effect caused by magnesium deficiency. Although I was taking magnesium which I had from the U. S. It was not being absorbed and fortunately I had a high quality one from Germany (effervescent) and after taking this for 2 days the back pain went away. I later learned from German pharmacists that with certain high blood pressure medicine (diuretics) one needs to take magnesium because the medication depletes the body's magnesium."
06/27/2011: Joni from Madison, Wi. replies: "THE PERSON FROM GERMANY, CAN WE GET THAT MAGNESIUM OVER THE WEB? And what is it?"
09/19/2011: Garry from Los Angeles, California replies: "The magnesium from Germany is most likely Magnesium Citrate powder, one of the major products in Europe its called "d-i-a-s-p-o-r-a-l" just remove the hyphens and do a internet search to get a better description of the product and its ingredient list."

Replies04/01/2008: Joyce from Joelton, TN replies: "Response to Helen of Beirut, Lebanon 3/30/08:Hi Helen, I'm not Ted but I can answer your question about the magnesium your daughter is taking. If she is getting too much magnesium it quickly lets you know because you get diarrhea from it and nobody needs a doctor to tell them when they have diarrhea, do they?
The lovely part of this is that magnensium has lots of function in the body and it is also one of the minerals our modern day junk/fast food diets leave us short on. To learn what this magnesium deficiency causes, I urge everyone to research EXCITOTOXINS on line and pay particular attention to anything from Russell Blaylock. James South also has a very informative and easy to follow on them.
The two major excitotoxins that our foods are laden with are monosodium glutamate and aspartame.MONOSODIUM GLUTAMATE AND ASPARTAME
ARE NOT JUST FOUND IN ASIAN STIR-FRIED FOODS.
They are found in all processed foods in all cultures. We can protect ourselves from a lot of this by learning what names they hide them under (ingredients list) and leaving those on the grocery shelf. It is not possible to omit MSG found in our vaccines to protect us from things such as measles, mumps, polio, etc.
To protect ourselves and our families, we must also know some things that can block absorption of MSG and aspartame. Mike Adams interview (available on line) with Dr. Russell Blaylock is very informative and should be fairly easy to follow for most people. In this he mentions that a lot of monosodium glutamate damage to our brains are found to also be accompanied by a magnesium deficiency!
James South quotes a Dr. Mildred Seelig, a noted magnesium expert, calculated that a minimum of 8 mgms. of magnesium per kilogram of body weight are needed daily to prevent cellular magnesium deficiency (560 mgm day needed for l54 pound adult). Our Western world diets usually supplies only l75-275 mgm/day, about 1/2 of the amount needed.Dr. Blaylock, in his interview with Mike Adams, also mentions other MSG blockers such as amino acids (leucine, isoleucine and lysine), silimarin, curcumin and ginkgo biloba, and most of the flavonoids.
Dr. Blaylock only talks about what excitotoxins do to the brain & central nervous system! Reading up on Metabolic Syndrome X (which orthox medicine now calls insulin resistance will tell you what these same excitotoxins do the rest of the body. Have fun reading.
So Helen, keep giving that daughter the magnesium to protect her from the above and don't worry about too much unless she develops diarrhea - if she does just reduce the amount."
04/02/2008: Helen from Beirut, Lerbanon replies: "Thanks Joyce for your reply it was very helpful to me, now I know she can take around 600 mg daily(she's over weight) ,I read all the report of Dr. Blaylock ,and I believe in all what he said , and I think everybody must read it, here is the link www.naturalnews.com/020550.html"

05/24/2007: Ted from Bangkok, Thailand writes: "Sometimes the sudden pain, from lower back (at least for me, which is more often than I care to recall) is due to a magnesium deficiency. If I take say 250 mg of magnesium chloride or other similar magnesium such as mangesium citrate or magnesium gluconate, the pain goes away completely on the third or fourth day. However most of the intolerable pain goes away in about 30 minutes to an hour. In case magnesium is not available, you can try sunflower seeds which contain some magnesium. But they take a lot longer to see results - sometimes more than a week."
Replies04/03/2008: Joyce from Joeton, TN replies: "To Helen from Beirut,4/2/08:Hello again Helen,
I am concerned that you might have just skipped over an importance point in that interview with Dr. Blaylock.
Please go back and read that again, taking special note of: "Now one of the things we are hearing a lot about is childhood obesity. One early observation with excitotoxicity is it makes animals grossly obese". We may be the higher order of animals but Dr. Blaylock tells us that we humans store much more of MSG & aspartame than other animals do. While Dr. Blaylock writes about the effects of these two on the brain, these 2 also cause a lot of other problems.
If you can find a copy of "The Carbohydrate Addict's Healthy Program" by Richard and Rachel Heller and Dr. Vagnini, it is an excellent source of what it does to other parts of the body. Fortunately the same major excitotoxins causing problems with the brain & central system are the same ones blamed for the problems mentioned in the above book. You can search Metabolic Syndrome X &/or Insulin Resistance and you can't help but realize that this is what the above book is about.
Since you said your daughter is overweight, I urge you to read up on this to keep your daughter from developing Diabetes Mellitus, type 2."

MATTRESS

08/17/2011: Francisca from Michelbach-le-bas, Alsace, France writes: "This may seem a silly question but I think that my back pains are due to a mattress that doesn't suit my needs. My husband has back pains as well. Ok, the solution, you would say, would be to go and buy a new one. That is exactly what we did. We asked the guy in the shop to come and look at what we had, which was quite new, and advise us on what to get. My husband was against buy memory foam again but I forgot that part while trying several mattresses and guess what, we ended up buy one but twice as expensive. And we have the same pain especially if we lie a long time on our backs.
My question is maybe not as silly as it sounds because what do you do, you go to the shop, lie on each mattress for a few minutes, what do you know about them? Nothing really...... So I am at a loss here! We do need a new mattress but how should we decide what to buy?"
Replies08/17/2011: Clarity from Los Angeles, California, Usa replies: "Francesca... Re. Back pain. My husband and I both suffered from back pain, purchased 2 mattresses of hi quality, expensive and promply returned it. Purchased the 3rd. Mattress from a well known swedish manufacture called T_mpurP_tic. Well!!! I must tell you, it's been 3 years and no pain. We love it and recommend it highly. It is the most expensive mattress on the market her in US. But it's worth it. Sou Brasileira, vivo em Los Angeles.C."
08/18/2011: Francisca from Michelbach-le-bas, Alsace, France replies: "Olá Clarity, eu sou 1/4 brasileira, o meu avô era da Bahia. The problem here is that you can't give back a mattress. I suppose you are talking about Tempura but that is I think that this memory foam is although it is another brand. I really don't know what to do.... I do get a lot better during the day so it must be the mattress. And if I lie on the recliners outside by the pool I never have any kind of back pain. Unfortunately I always forget to check when I am in a hotel meaning probably that I don't have pain."
[YEA] 08/19/2011: Tricia from Ireland replies: "Two things worth spending money on are a good pair of shoes and a mattress. If you're not in one you're in the other. But you cannot tell, with either item, as to whether they will do you damage after a couple of hours use. Five minutes in the shop is not the same as eight hours solid use. I think most women will have a number of pairs of shoes in the wardrobe that cannot be worn for long. One of the following may be worth trying. If the mattress is too hard, an upholsterer(furniture maker) would sell you a thin piece of foam that cold be laid on top of the mattress and under the sheet. This foam is used in different thicknesses by manufacturers.
If the bed is too soft - a piece of plywood or any other soft wood laid between the mattress and the bed base can be helpful. This certainly helped my Mom when she had a bad back. After about a year she felt able to remove it when she bought a new different mattress but put it back again a short time later as the new one brought back the old pains."

MINERALS

[YEA] 01/13/2011: Laurie Anne from Ridge Manor, Fl, Usa writes: "I have found that one of the simplest and most effective remedies for back pain is a good mineral supplement. Any multi-mineral tablet should suffice, but I would recommend an ionic trace mineral liquid supplement available from any vitamin/herb store/catalog taken daily at the highest recommended dose along with a multi-vitamin and digestive enzymes for complete body balancing. This will bring results within a week if it's going to help and if it helps, this regime should be continued indefinitely."

MSM

[YEA] 04/01/2011: Christine from Victoria, Bc, Canada writes: "In reply to Francisca from Michelbach-le-bas, Alsace, France:
Hi Francesca,
I take 2-3gms of MSM powder daily in drinks and have found it works for my creaky knees and stiff finger joints better than anything else.
You might try belly dance classes for your back ache, I had severe lumbar pain with sciatica for several years after a strain injury to my back. I took a class in belly dance and was impressed by how you are taught to separate and work muscle groups on your torso, which makes them stronger, which gives more support to the spine and seems to pull it into alignment. It takes a few months to get really fit but you see improvement after a couple of weeks."
Replies04/01/2011: Francisca from Michelbach-le-bas, Alsace, France replies: "Christine, Canada, what a great idea concerning the belly dance classes, also because I feel like my lower back muscles have gone down hill, like they don't support me anymore when I bend down, the only problem is that I have never heard of belly dance classes here in France. We live in a quite rural location. I did buy a hula hoop but completely forgot to use it, maybe that might help? I am so fed up of having back pain... it makes me feel like an old woman and at 53 I am not that old yet..........As far as MSM goes I am now trying a drink with MSM, Condroitin, Glucosamin and blueberry juice but so far nothing seems to help. To be honest I am at a point in my life that supplements don't seem to affect me in any way, no matter which combinations I try."

OIL PULLING

[YEA] 10/12/2009: Toomuchswagger from Atlanta, Ga writes: "Benefits of using Sesame Oil for Oil Pulling Therapy
I tried Sesame Oil after experiencing severe back pain from a tramatic injury to my tailbone and my coccyx bone became misaligned, which caused severe pain when I'm sitting down. I also have chronic knee pain, stomach pains, occasional headaches and an infection on the right side of my mouth. I began the oil pulling therapy on July 21, 2009 and after 3-4 weeks I saw a noticeable decrease in my back pain. I used to have difficulty being seated for periods longer than one hour and had horrible pain after riding in a car or driving for long distances. I have experienced such remarkable improvements in my results that I was able to drive from Georgia to Maryland with no pain in my back or my knee, 5 weeks after I began oil pulling therapy. I no longer have headaches or pain in my stomach. I have also noticed that the pain in my mouth is gone because the infection has obviously disappeared!! I feel absolutely wonderful that I am now pain-free and I have accomplished this without surgery or chemical drugs and medication. I am happy to say that my girlfriend and family members have now begun oil pulling therapy."

[YEA] 04/05/2010: Alfred from Bangkok, Thailand writes: "MY THEORY ON BACK PROBLEMS
IF MY Theory is correct, to repair back problems is simple.. My theory comes from reading a book written by C. SAMUEL WEST, D.N
N.D
TITLE OF BOOK
THE GOLDEN SEVEN PLUS ONE
He talks about trapped proteins, and salt a poison.. Talks about our cells in our body.. when they are not healthy, we start dying..The body works on electrical current.. We can heal ourselves with the electricity that flows thru our bodies . It would be easy if we could plug ourselves in someplace and get recharged. But not that easy.. We must eat proper balanced diet of food and exercise to keep our body generators going which is our cells. Yes, our small cells are generators.. they must always be in top shape to keep our body healthy..
Our cells are mostly potassium with a little salt.. the minute we eat too much salt it pushes the potassium out of the cells.. the body start to get sick..
Listen to this.. the bones in our back start falling apart.. Then you have back problems.. I really feel that most people that have back problems are very low in potassium. Like # 1 or 2.. which is a low potassium level
The minute we cut out the salt.. the potassium make our cells healthy.. Then the bones in our back go back in place.. No more back problems.. When you take a physical.. how many of you ask for potassium test. If the numbers they give you are between 3-5.. your potassium level is normal, your generators (cells) are in good shape..I just finished a physical, when they took my blood ..I asked for a Potassium test. They said Why do you want that? How do you answer.. I said because I want to live for 200 years.. Well I got my test.. reading was 4.4 . Never had any back problems..
I could be all wet.. In my theory..So if you have a different idea, I would love to hear it.
Thanks for your time. And interest
Health #1
Alfred"

PROTEOLYTIC ENZYMES

[YEA] 11/09/2011: Lily from Alice Springs, Australia writes: "I was having terrible lower back problem (unsure if it is sciatica) for days and even turning in bed and trying to get out if it is a struggle and challenge on how to avoid the pain. I read somewhere that proteolytic enzymes is anti-inflammatory that works on back pain. My hubby was taking it before so I had some in the fridge as part of the digestive enzymes from the pharmacy. I took one before dinner time and the next morning I realize right away the pain was significantly reduced as I did not have pain just trying to get out of bed as well as trying to stand up after being seated. Just remember you have to take it at least half or an hour before any meal. I was taking a capsule each twice a day initially when the pain was severe. I have since stopped and only go back to it once in a while whenever I start feeling the pain again. If you can't find protease/proteolytic enzymes, fresh pineapple is supposed to have the enzymes so just eat fresh pineapple (not cooked or canned ones as that has been heated so the enzymes will be gone)."
