Asthma Remedies
"Asthma occurs when the main air passages of your lungs, the bronchial tubes, become inflamed. The muscles of the bronchial walls tighten, and cells in the lungs produce extra mucus further narrowing your airways. This can cause minor wheezing to severe difficulty in breathing. In some cases, your breathing may be so labored that an asthma attack becomes life-threatening.
Asthma is a chronic but treatable condition. You can manage your condition much like someone manages diabetes or heart disease. You and your doctor can work together to control asthma, reduce the severity and frequency of attacks and help maintain a normal, active life."

[YEA] 09/15/2007: Tangie from Jonesboro, GA writes: "First I must say this is a GREAT! Website and I search on it often. I have pretty much cured my asthma with the AV and coconut oil... If I leave certain beers and wine alone will usually don't need to us my nebulizer machine either. I'm very excited about trying the OP as I just bought sunflower oil last' week. I have been sending infomation on OP to my Mom as I want her to try it too... But she has had pancreatic cancer and has had the Whipple procedure done 3 yrs ago. And YES she did have the chemo and radition that (WE) think made her condition worst. The problem is she has to take these expensive enyme medications in order to help digest her meals. I wanted her to try the OP because of the toxins from the chemo and radition. I have been looking on the web site for any one with these issues to find out what their outcome is from OP after a few yrs of a major surgery as the Whipple. She is doing very well... and I want to see her continue this way. I look forward to hearing from you soon.. And THX AGAIN for this GREAT WEBSITE! I tell friends about it all the time as in fact 1 person tried the AV on a Korn on the toe... IT'S GONE! Ha! Ha! Love this site! "

[SIDE EFFECTS] 12/07/2009: Dani from Foresthill, Ca writes: "My last experience with asthma was after I ate a bowl of ice cream, I hadn't had an attack in years and ended up watching the sun come up because of it, I found that dairy was a huge offender for me when it comes to allergies, I cannot consume it. I also found that when I cut all dairy out of my diet any allery symptoms I may have been experiencing was lessened considerably. I also found that corn and any corn products did the same thing."

[SIDE EFFECTS] 10/15/2008: Liz from West Bend, WI writes: "I developed asthma when I was pregnant with my daughter about two years ago. I think I had it for much longer as dust has always bothered me and caused me to have lung infections. I was taking meds, not religiously, but on occausion for the first year. I finally decided to see an allergist in March 08, and had reactions to the 6 most common indoor and outdoor allergens in varying degrees. I know the scale is from 0-4 and I'm a 4 for dust and cat dander. I'm also allergic to different tree pollens. I was trying to find the sheet that listed them all but I'm not sure where it is.
I believe my asthma is caused by my allergies and have been oil pulling two times a day for 5min, taking 2TBS raw organic ACV twice a day with 1/8tea of baking soda, 1 TBS raw honey, and have also recently added 1tea cinnamon and 1-2 tea lemon juice. I know these things help with my overall health but they haven't largely helped my asthma.
I also drink tea on a regular basis and have tried peppermint, licorice root, green tea, black teas. They seem to help while I'm drinking it but the effects are short lived.
I have also tried green tea with ACV and Cayenne pep during a cold, which did seem to help but didn't completely eradicate it.
Basically I'm looking for other alternative treatments to try. I have been having asthma attacks more frequently and I'm not sure if its my indoor air quality or what. I live in WI and its getting cold so all the windows are closed. I want to buy more plants to help filter the air which I think would help some.
I was also thinking of trying to do a clinical study by Dr.David Hahn. He believes that asthma is caused by a bacteria in your lungs I posted the links to his website under a post for azithromycin. I think that may be promising for some asthma sufferers.
Also,my asthma acts up when I excercise (which I try to do every day) and the highest I can blow on a peak flow meter is 300, lowest I get when having an attack is 90-150. Avg person gets between 400-700. My husband can max my device out.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. I have twin boys and a daugther all under the age of five and my asthma takes my life away. Plus, I want to be able to help my kids if they develope asthma/allergies.
Thanks for your time,
Liz"
10/15/2008: Joyce from Joelton, Tn. replies: "To Liz from Wisconsin:Hello Liz I agree that allergies and asthma go hand in hnd. Are you taking a magnesium supplement now? If not, be aware that getting your magnesium up to normal level is said to decrease the incidence of asthma attacks. Along with getting your magnesium level up, you might also consider taking MSM (methylsulfonylmethane) to help with the allergies. Yes this is the same stuff that does so much toward helping joint pain and arthritis.
After seeing something about NAET on EC and knowing nothing about it, I went on line to learn about it. It seems that someone with allergy problem (the N is initial of persons name who came up with this. The other initials are for "allergy elimination therapy". It allegedly cures allergies, even to the inhalant allergies. Since it is based partly on acupuncture, it just might work. When thing slow down around here I plan to visit one of its practitioners , since I have food, medication, pollen and inhalant allergies. The inhalant allergies are the ones that worry me the most since I passed out from perfumes. When you search this therapy on line, you can also locate practitioners in your locale. I was surprised to learn that I have several within 20 miles off home.
In the meantime, as I always told my lungers and asthma patients, AVOID ANYTHING YOU CAN SEE OR SMELL IN THE AIR."
11/08/2008: Liz from West Bend , WI replies: "So i decided to try what Joyce suggested. I now take 250mg of Magnesium along with my multivitamin, 12000 mg fish oil, and 30mg zinc. I had a cold about 3 weeks ago and started taking the vitamins after looking up more information on this website. It seemed to help rid me of the infection as I was coughing up a lot of mucous. The last time I was sick in August it went to my chest and turned into pneumonia, so I was really worried when I got sick that it would happen again. I think the vitamins really helped me. My nose would be really runny and instead of taking benadryl, which seemed to help me a few times, I took the vitamins and 2000mg vitamin C. I would feel better shortly after taking them. I'm still using my nebulizer once or twice a day but overall I feel a lot better. I'm thinking of trying Co Q10 as I've heard that helps with COPD, which I don't have, but I'm willing to try pretty much anything. I've also started taking milk thistle for my mild breakouts! I think that is working too. Anyway, thanks for your help and let me know if there is any other promising remedies.
Liz"
[SIDE EFFECTS] 05/20/2009: Mary K. from Kimberly, Idaho replies: "I too have had cold and flu symptoms these last couple of months...I started taking the cold and flu 2220 Natures formula and Echinacea and it started to get better. Then it came back again and I sounded like I had broncititis pneumonia. Last week they took an Eray and said it was Pulmonary hypertension. I have been coughing alot and take Droserra and my coughing is better. I even took apple cider vinegar and baking soda and it helped but this is the second day doing it all. I will have a EKO tomorrow and I dont know what they are looking for or what they will do to help me but I dont want the long term Pulmonary hypertension with doctors mediciation and still miserable. I have had asthma about 15 years ago all summer long. This coughing and cold and flu has been alot like it. Nothing has worked. Just been allergic to everything and everyone."
[SIDE EFFECTS] 10/10/2009: Sally_oh from Escazú, San José, Costa Rica replies: "My son has asthma set off by allergies and we manage it using a lot of tools, many of them I found at EC. The most important thing is to find out what things set you off (food and/or environmental) and then avoid them! For my son, the big ones are woodsmoke (we live in Costa Rica and everyone burns their trash), cigarette smoke, moldy buildings (inside of a carpeted theatre) - those are the biggies. Foods are not so bad for him, but a few give him the dry cough and itchy throat: dairy, white flour, sugar of course - those are common. Corn products, bananas, a few other things. But his worst attacks have been environmental.
When he feels a sinus infection coming on (which is rare these days), he does the Neti pot (1 C warm water, 1/2 t. real salt, 1-2 drops GSE, 1/4 t. baking soda) and gargles. We take a boat load of vitamins (including 500mg magnesium and 2.5g Vit C in a powder).
For colds, 150mg zinc, then again 4 hours later, then again 4 hours later - I find this odd but a friend recommended it and it works.
Garlic is great for lungs: swallow a raw crushed clove (I cut it in pieces).
Drink hot ACV with honey and a tap of cayenne at night - yum! Everything clears up.
That's all I can think of at this moment. Thanks so much for this website. I just wanted to give something back. Pura vida!"
12/10/2010: Rob from Cumberland City, Tn replies: "I don't know if you've already tried this or not, but I have quit consuming almost anything that might be considered a stimulant. I won't get into the full details of what was going on besides my asthma, but within a day of quitting caffeine and my nasal antihistamine spray, my cold-weather breathing felt better than it has in years. The past three winters have been hard on me, usually taking most of the spring to really recover. Two days before I quit, I had taken my rescue inhaler five times, despite also using a steroid/long-term beta agonist twice a day. I've felt so good, in fact, I've even been out walking and running at night, in below freezing weather, something I would have never considered just a couple of weeks ago. Another thing that has helped is forcing myself to breathe through my nose as often as possible. As always, the ACV helps with overall health. I try to take two jiggers a day and chase it with at least 8 oz. Of H2O."

[SIDE EFFECTS] 03/30/2007: Amarilis from San Diego, CA writes: "I read a few of the articles on here, and I just wanted to share my personal experiance. My asthma comes from my allergies. A lot of people are like this. Whenever I get a sinus infection, I am sure to get asthma. Or if I am around something that makes my allergies act up, I am sure to get asthma...So if you notice that there are things that you are allergic to, that cause you to have a constant wheezy cough..pressure against your chest when you breathe...go get allergy tested."
Replies08/11/2009: Greg from Hilo, Hawaii replies: "Aloha to the folks here. My naturopath let me know about a treatment for asthma called Buteyko Breathing Method over 6 years ago. I learned it and have been asthma symptom free since. I just started to teach a workshop on Buteyko. It is so amazing to see people get so much relief from it. Clinical studies show that in 2 to 6 weeks people reduce albuterol / short acting med's by 90% and long term acting meds by 50% with 90% reduction in symptoms. If you are in Hawaii I could teach it to you and if not there are teachers in the U.S.
Good luck and aloha.

ALOE VERA, FRESH

[YEA] 07/08/2009: Dianne from Tampa, Fl writes: "I apologize in advance for how lengthy this is. I am writing to let everyone know about the incredible benefits we have experienced with Aloe. About one and a half years ago our whole family came down with whooping cough. I decided to try Aloe, as a friend I had known had had great success with it for treating a serious prolonged cough and my mother also told me that in Colombia SA they would use a beaten concoction of Aloe and egg whites to treat whooping cough when she was a little girl. I reaearched Aloe on the internet, and though I didn't find the egg white recipe, I found many things Aloe is good for. It did work very well for whooping cough, especially helping to calm the nightime attacks, and a friend tried it for her daughter's whooping cough and had the same results. When I looked Aloe up on the internet, the treatment for the ailment that interested me the most was asthma. My son had been struggling with it for several years- not severe, but mostly sports induced and it greatly hindered his ability to play sports. I have tried most home remedies for asthama and have had so-so results. He began drinking it every day and by the end of the second month his attacks were completely gone. As long as he continues to drink it daily, he has no attacks. If he stops it entirely he begins having attacks again after a couple of months.
I found that one of the reasons that Aloe works for asthama (and other conditions like arthritis and lupus) is because it is anti-inflammatory. So, it keeps the airwarys from getting inflamed. Another reason it works is because it is also excellent for treating allergies which many times are a trigger for asthama. One of the reasons it works for allergies is because of the collagen it causes your body to produce which thickens the the mucus linings of your repiratory system and intestinal tract (heals leaky gut) which in turn helps you not to be so sensitive to allergens. Another reason is that it treats systemic candida which is usually the root of asthma and allergies.
The funny thing I noticed, which is not mentioned in any literature I have researched about Aloe, is that it has also helped with his stunted growth. My son is really short for his age and in the two years before taking Aloe, he only grew six inches total. Once he began taking Aloe for his asthma he grew almost six inches in one year. The growth spurt coincided exactly with time he first began the Aloe. I've tried my own "experiments" to see if his growth is related to the Aloe or if it is just his time to start growing, and I've found that if he has a period of a couple of months where he doesn't take his Aloe at all or only takes it once a week or so, he only grows about a quarter of an inch per month or less. When he takes it every single day, he grows about a half inch per month.
My father has been really inspired about my son's story and began taking it himself about four months ago for his prostate. He has been on prostate medication for the past ten years and still gets up to urinate about four times per night. He has tried different prostate medicines as well as his own share of home remedies, and nothing has worked. Well, after drinking Aloe daily for a couple of months, he was able to get off of his prostate medicine completly. Now he only gets up once or twice per night and he's not on any prostate medecine.
I've heard some people make some type of Aloe tea infusion, but the way we take Aloe is this: We buy a fresh Aloe stalk from the produce section of the grocery store. It has to be at least fourteen inches long, or I've read it's not as beneficial. The Aloe has to be nice and firm. Don't use it if it is soft and squishy as it is too old and may actually agravate some candida problems. We slice off a three inch section from the base and peel off the thick green skin with a paring knife and discard it. We then take the gel (from the three inch section) and gently blend it with a drink mixer with some orange juice for palatability. The less you blend, the better as you don't want to destroy the beneficial properties.
You can buy bottled Aloe, but I DON'T RECOMMEND IT! While there may be some good Aloe products out there, I've read that sometimes the bottle can say 100% Aloe and it is actually 95% water, but for some reason the FDA allows them to say 100% Aloe even if it isn't. The other reason is that bottled Aloe is usually pastuerized which kills many of the beneficial enzymes that make Aloe so effective. Fresher is always better with Aloe."
Replies10/10/2009: Sally_oh from Escazú, San José, Costa Rica replies: "Thank you - I can't wait to try this. Lived in Key West for 30 years, aloe everywhere and never knew this! My son also was not getting any good growth spurts. He was on asthma medication from the time he was three. When we moved to Costa Rica, my pharmacist here suggested he go off the meds, see how his asthma was. We went off the meds about a year and a half ago, managing very well with diet and treatments found here and he's now 6' tall, 16 years old. Everyone remarked how much he has grown. Maybe he was due for the teen growth spurt, but it seems awfully coincidental. I had read on a few websites that prolonged asthma meds (can't remember now exactly which ones - he was taking albuterol emergency and nebulizer, singulair and symbicort inhaler) could stunt a person's growth and he lived on that stuff."
10/31/2010: Andrea from Dublin, Ireland replies: "Thank you so much, Dianne for sharing your experience giving your son Aloe Vera for his asthma. I would like to try it too. Just a question on the daily intake: The 3 inch you are cutting and preparing from the plant, mixed with orange juice for the taste, is that one dose or from there you take a spoonful every day or how much do you take?"
10/02/2011: Dianne from Tampa, Florida replies: "After I mix it with orange juice, I drink the whole thing."

Replies09/05/2011: Jeff from Cebu City, Philippines replies: "Did you take the ACV with bicarb soda and water or just plain ACV? You can also try nebulizing with HP if its for asthma. You can also try drinking FGHP, it should supply your lungs with more oxygen as well. FGHP should be available in Australia."
10/13/2011: Dino817 from N. Reading, Ma, Usa replies: "The bloating is most likely caused from candida (yeast) die-off. Our diets have lots of yeast feeders (sugars and grains), which cause candida, which is found naturally in our body, to over-develop and become invasive. ACV kills it, and the bloat/gas is a sign that it is dying."

08/07/2009: Helen from Gisors, France writes: "THIS SITE IS GREAT. I just want to let you know, as an asthma sufferer and having problems with dental plaque, I can't believe the great therapies I'm finding today on your site (never heard of oil pulling - AMAZING!)
And - just had my first bit of ACV honey!
Just a note: I know someone selling uncooked honey at fleamarkets in the Orlando area - they actually have the hives. Many people are buying their honey because of the supposed benefits of helping their allergies.
This is such a necessary site for providing information for alternative treatments. As an asthma sufferer, I believe I was partially debilitated by steroid overmedication in the week I spent in the hospital after a severe crises. Since then I have had no ablity to deep breath, meaning: can't even yawn!
We must promote the safer (and less costly) alternatives. Thanks to you and thanks to all the kind and helpful posters.

10/08/2011: Primadonna from Oceanside, California replies: "I saw this thread of Helen's talking about not being able to take a full breath. I know that this is a long time ago thread was posted, but just in case someone at least can get help from my experience I thought I should post. I had for months this sensation of not being able to get a full breath or yawn, etc. I read somewhere that a deficiency in magnesium can cause this sensation. Sure enough this was the case with me. I started taking Magnesium and all of these symptoms went away. I went to Dr. after Dr. and test after test---all I needed was magnesium. I sure wish I could get the word out to more people with this problem that could get help/relief. Hope this helps!"

Wen i feel a sinus infection cumn on i do a sinus rinse w/ 1/2 teaspoon of salt and and cap full of 3% hydrogen peroxide every hr on the hr. I also put the hydrogen peroxide n my ear every hr on the hr. And usually abt 2 days later its gone.
I also remedy this 4 pregnant women since i am pregnant rgt now and dont want to t8 any meds. Wen i feel a sore throat cumn on i gargle wit grounded red pepper abt 1 teaspoon, acv abt 1/4 cup, sum hydrogen peroxide abt 2 tablespoons, abt 1 teaspon of sea salt and abt cup of water. The after that I make me sum tea using only everythg but the hydrogen peroxide and sip on it that usually keeps the pain away while the hydrogen peroxide kills off the virus."

I will email you the results of this test. Thank you, Becky"
Replies06/04/2009: Gean from Salina, KS replies: "I wonder if it would be safe to put non-sterile things into a nebulizer. The nebulizer breaks it down into a very small particle size (1-3 microns, I believe) and it passes into your blood through the one-cell thick walls of the alveoli. I would maybe do some more research first. Taking something into your stomach is not the same as nebulizing it."
08/08/2009: Maresha from Rocky Corners, Usa replies: "I have used rosemary hydrosols and Basil water hydrosols in my nevulizer. The airway opening is not as quick so for a severe attack I still must yuse the conventional medicines. However, both of these hydrosols seem to break up the mucus rather well. The Basil hydrosol has sedating properties, the rosemary is more stimulating. Both are food grade so I haven't been concerned about 'overdosing' on a couple teaspoons in my system per day.
Quality hydrosols are available at ______. I have not worried too much about them not being sterile - the air we breath continually is far from sterile. After 18 months of pretty much regular use, I have had less chest colds than I used to have."

[NAY] 05/29/2009: Jessica from Duluth, MN writes: "Tried ACV for my 5-year-old's asthma. 1TBS in warm water with honey once a day. I am sorry to report that it didn't help him at all. He was on it for 2 months and during that time got several flares and even wound up in the ER with a severe attack. After that we gave up and he's now on Flovent and Singulair and doing much better. I am very bummed out to have him on these medications and would love to find something natural, but so far no luck. Will keep researching alternatives."
Replies10/10/2009: Sally_oh from Escazú, San José, Costa Rica replies: "Check his food and environmental allergies. Remedies can only fight so much. Remove the obvious offenders: pets, feather pillows/comforters, sugar, white flour, dairy, clorox, windex, alcohol (very toxic - I used to use it clean my windows), smelly cleaners, ajax (used to contain mercury, don't know if it still does)... anything you can think of. If he craves a food, it is very likely an allergy. Remove everything for three weeks, then add things back in one at a time (ice cream first, of course!) See what he reacts to. Once you've pinned down his allergies and removed them, try the ACV again. It may have been working too hard against too many stimulants.
My son lived on meds from three to 15. He survived, he is bright funny and his asthma is now managed very well. Good luck!"
10/25/2009: Lauren from Memphis, Tn replies: "I just wanted to elaborate on what Sally has said here. I have multiple chemical sensitivities and developed asthma 20 years ago, in response to synthetic chemicals that are ubiquitous in the indoor environment I have also had asthma in response to medications. Pollen and typical allergens don't bother me. I have cats, and they don't trigger my asthma....chemicals do.
Cleaners and pillows are just the tip of the ice burg.....carpeting, furniture and cabinets made of particle board, paint, health and beauty supplies, soap, laundry detergents, softeners and dryer sheets, perfume, air fresheners....just to name a few things. Fragrances are made of hundreds of synthetic chemicals, including petrochemicals.....even products that are labled fragrance free may still have a fragrance, but the manufacturer may add another chemical to mask the smell. Carpeting, particle board and many other products contain formaldehyde and can take years to outgas. Wrinkle free cotton clothing and polyester/cotton sheets are treated with formaldehyde to make them wrinkle free. These synthetic chemicals are making many, many people ill, but they don't know it. It is not ecomomical for companies to do anything about it....infact the industry denies this growing health issue, and works hard to oppose the idea that their products are making the public ill. Read up on Multiple Chemical Sensitivities, also called Environmental Illness, to gain a better understanding of the negative health effects of these chemicals and where to find them in your home and work place.
The average medical doctor is completely unaware about this phenomenon, and thus completely ineffective in dealing with this aspect of a persons health issues. Also,I need to point out that chemical illnesses aren't allergies, as the two reactions are mediated in the body in completely different ways. People understand allergies, and tend to call any negative reaction an allergy, but it is basically the body's inability to process the chemical(s). If you are able, you might want to check out a doctor of Environmental Medicine....they understand chemical reactions.
Several years ago, I heard a statement in the news that indoor pollution was 2 to 5 times worse than outdoor pollution. Unfortunately, there was no elaboration on what this meant, and I didn't understand it at the time. Now that I am chronically ill from synthetic chemicals, I know exactly what they were talking about. If someone could have explained this to me years ago, it would have saved me a lot of suffering and provided greater quality of life. It never occured to me that companies would be allowed to make products that would make me and others ill.
By the way, aside from avoidance, I learned on this site about ACV and honey, and use it to help settle my asthma flair ups and associated coughing ( 2 tbsp ACV, 1 or more tbsp honey and 8 oz water). It has been a great help to me, as I can no longer tolerate any medications including inhalers. For twenty years I only needed to use inhalers occasionally. Afer being given a new product last year, it caused my asthma to worsen when I used it. Once that reaction happened, the same thing happened with my old inhaler, so this homemade remedy is all I have to help, and I am thankful for the information!
I hope this helps some of you...good luck and good health.

03/10/2011: Vicki from Atlanta, Ga, United States replies: "Jessica,
I have had asthma since I was six. I am now 52 and due to the inhalant steroids (Advair) which I only took for a few years, I now have steroid-induced cataracts. The drugs he's taking now will have serious consequences later on in life.
Everyone is different and react differently to remedies. Since ACV did not work for your son, you need to find something that does. I have learned that the single, most important and significant change I made was my diet. I became a raw vegan and that has helped tremendously. Wheat, dairy, peanuts and soy all aggravated my asthma. Well, actually, a lot of cooked foods trigger it also, so I find it best to stay on a raw fruits/veggies/nuts/seeds diet.
I cannot stress how crucial it is to take your son off all processed foods, dairy (no more ice cream or milk), wheat (no more cookies, crackers or bread), etc. Try it for 30 days. I think you'll be greatly surprised. Then you can add one item back at a time to see if he has a reaction.
Green smoothies are delicious and helpful. You can make raw ice cream out of frozen bananas or frozen strawberries. You can make awesome shakes out of almond milk. Starting him out on a raw diet now, at this young age, will allow him to enjoy a lifetime of excellent health.
Best wishes to you both. I empathize with your situation."

[YEA] 12/17/2008: Ellie from Charlotte, NC/USA writes: "My asthma is not severe yet I've required daily doses of Flovent and occasional use of a fast acting inhaler for years. Being without, even for a day is a concern. Recently I ran out of my Flovent and simply did not have the $180 necessary to purchase a refill. The congestion in my lungs began right away. Each day was worse. My lungs were burning and I knew I'd wind up in the emergency room soon if I didn't do something.
I searched the internet for any home remedy that would buy me some time and relief until I could purchase medication. There were hundreds, most of which required me to harvest it myself on the bottom of the ocean or something. Then I found this site with the ridiculous suggestion to consume apple cider vinegar! This made no sense but I was desperate, it was late, I was miserable, and I had some in my kitchen cabinet.
The first night I drank 2 TBS and slept through the night without waking to use my emergency inhaler. I hadn't done that in days.
The next week and a half I used 1 TBS two to three times a day mixed in juice, holding my nose, followed by chocolate (or raspberries which I suddenly developed a craving for) and I've NEVER used anything that broke up my congestion faster. EVER.
I've now gone three weeks without the use of an inhaler at all! I've been on medication for years! I'm still stunned.
Thank goodness I found this site.

I heard about it in 2003 after having been in the hospital for chronic broncitis three times that year and had develped asthma, was on a nebulizer and inhalers. I have always had allergies.
After I started the raw vinegar mixed with raw honey - I have been drinking 1/4 cup mixed with a glass of water at night.- I have lost 55 pounds, which I learned was due to the vinegar daily - have not had bronchitis or asthma and have quit taking acid reflex meds, lung meds, singular for asthma, don't need the nebulizer or inhalers. I also quit taking nexium and just learned it is also good for leg cramps. I am a much healther person. I take mine at night, but think I will try taking smaller doses three times a day. Even my lung doctor agreed ACV was good for your lungs. He said his Mother raised them on it for sore throats and colds. Too bad the drug companies don't agree. Thanks for your site"

Should I be going to a natural food store to get this raw vinegar and raw honey, any suggestions will be gladly accepted"

On one ocassion i was rushed to the emergency room, from the parkiing lot my husband had to pick me upand carry me like a baby because I was unable to walk, I know that I was getting ready to leave this world, but I believe the lord was on my side. Anyway I found out about apple cider vigenar. I Went to the health food store and get a bottle, I was using it for some other ailments I had, but low and behold the asthma was cured, and also the acid reflux problem and idigestion problem I was having..
I am a firm believer in this regemen.I took 2/tbs apple cider in a 8 ozs. water two to three times a day and that did it. I still take it for maintaince. thank you so much for this site you guys, I have been telling everyone I know about you. thanks again."
10/15/2009: Tj from Chandler, Arizona United States replies: "This response is to Ron from Radford VA...Nope doesn't really matter. I know...I know some people really prefer "organic" or "raw." I use the old store brand and it works just fine. I'm on a very restricted budget. The organic at a major grocery store costs $5.00 for a quart while at W** M***t I can pay about $5.00 for 2 gallons. It has always worked for me. :-)"
12/21/2010: Juliet from Sacramento, Ca replies: "To Ron from Radford, VA: I've actually found that the Apple Cider Vinegar that works BEST for me is the kind that is un-pasteurized, and still retains the 'cloudy' appearance due to the presence of what is called the 'Mother' (weird name, but helpful so why not?) which provides more benefits than non-Mothered versions. I can tell almost immediately when I take it that my coughing and wheezing begins to dwindle. I hope the same proves to be true to you, or that you find the best help for your body! Take care."

[YEA] 05/16/2008: Daisy from Waipahu, HI writes: "My 6 year old son normally gets asthma when he gets a cold. The doctors that we've seen since he's been diagnosed with asthma told us that we should start him right away on albuterol and pulmicort (steroid) once he starts coughing. 2 days ago, he began to cough because of all the VOG (volcanic ash - contains sulfur) that is now present in our air. Instead of jumping for the nebulizer and giving him a dose of his medication, I opted for 1 tablespoon of ACV in half cup of water and sweetened it with Agave nectar (to his liking). His cough lessened in just a few seconds. That same night, I gave him a warm concoction of the same ACV mix which surprisingly helped him sleep through the night without a single cough. Next morning, I gave him another warm ACV drink and fed him slices of apples. The skin of apples contains something that helps with coughing. Later in the day, he started to have runny nose, which normally doesn't happen until a few days after the initial cough. ACV is definitely speeding up his recovery. It's so much better than having him on medication for a week to 2 weeks. I also forgot to mention that before he came down with the cough, he was already taking a teaspoon of ACV in a half cup pomegranate and water mixture on a daily basis. I guess all he needed was a little more ACV."
Replies05/18/2008: Joyce from Joelton, Tn. replies: "APPLE CIDER VINEGAR AND ASTHMA: To Daisy from HI: Hang in there Daisy & congratulations for resisting starting your 6 yr old with asthma on albuterol & steroids. The only thing I would suggest that you change is if you can get some raw honey made within a 50 mile radius of where you live, use this to sweeten the ACV instead of the nectar. Asthma quite often has an allergy component and the honey helps with the allergies. Another thing is to watch for when his attacks occur, and try to eliminate the triggers (pollen, hair spray, room deodorizing sprays, paint odors, perfumes, after shaves, flowers, after shaves, etc. and just about anything you can see or smell in the air can be the trigger. Again, I commend you for trying something that actually provides some nutrients for him instead of just starting to drug him up with the albuterol and steroids, both of which have several unwanted side effects and no nutrients at all."
04/07/2009: Nalani from Hilo, HI replies: "Hey Daisy, I live on the Big Island also with the vog problem and all of a sudden my 8 yr old has asthma! First time in her life. She's had it for a while now but I refuse to use all the nebulizers and unnatural things. (Which my very healthy grandmother suddenly died after taking.) Anyway, I've been trying so hard to kick this asthma with my daughter. It's finally letting up though she still has a little cough, but not so croupy sounding. I tried giving her the fish oils for the Omega 3's, kelp for inflammation in the lungs (in pill form), lemon juice with honey that she finally got tired of, and now I will try the ACV to see if that will completely kick it. Nice to hear from another person dealing with the vog problem with a natural remedy. Thankx!"
04/07/2009: Nalani from Hilo, HI replies: "Oh yeah, and I forgot to mention, I also had her take a spoonful of coconut oil since I found that as a natural remedy listed for asthma. Everything I gave her was sort of inconsistant with each other but again, I will try and stick to the ACV now. Thanks again. ~Nalani"

[YEA] 10/22/2007: rajiv from Cairo, Egypt writes: "Hi,
First of all, I would like to express my sincere gratitude for your valuable suggestions which helped me a great deal.
I used to suffer from asthma and cold related ailments for the last more than twenty years. These ailments included: running nose, running eyes, sneezing, red eyes, and problems relating to asthma which aggravated during the month of April and November on account of change of weather. I used to take a lot of medicines which had their side-effects. On account of asthma, I did not play any game whatsoever [basically I could not run for a few meters]. While surfing on the net, I came your and I started taking AVC [edit note: AVC = Apple Cider Vinegar] and it did wonders to me.
While taking AVC, I realised that symptoms relating to asthma and cold related ailments have started to disappear. Once, after taking AVC over a period of six months or so, I stopped taking it, and I was having cold again which led me to continue taking AVC.
For the last one year or so, I have been eating mainly vegetable [cabbage, carrots, broccoli, green pepper and other leafy vegetables] and fruits [cantaloupe, grape and water melon]. More or less, following was my diet during the last one year:
First thing in the morning: 2 table spoon of Apple Vinegar cidar with water
Breakfast: one Indian bread with lentil or cooked vegetable with 2 table spoon of Apple Vinegar cidar in boiled water with garlic and ginger
Lunch: cantaloupe or grape with boiled vegetables [green pepper, cabbage, carrot, brocoli] with two lemons
Dinner: one Indian bread with lentil or vegetables with 2 table spoon of Apple Vinegar cidar in boiled water containing garlic and ginger
First time in my life in last twenty years or so, I could run, climb stairs, play cricket and badminton and felt great with the same diet as mentioned above. I started playing badminton religiously for two hours, though not continuously. I may like to add that I am a vegetarian, teetotaller and non-smoker through out my life. While playing badminton, I felt slight pain in my left knee which prompted me to go a doctor who said it was osteoarthritis. At the advice of doctor, I had my blood test with the following results:
Haemoglobin [9,.4 g/dl]
high uric acid [8.0 mg/dl
RF [positive] [40 IU/ml]
high Cholesterol [ 225 mg/dl]
I have spent a great deal of time on net which contains a lot of contradictory information pertaining to osteoarthritis. This is especially true to AVC. While some sites advocates use of AVC for osteoarthritis; others clearly advising not to take AVC and other citrus food.
As of now, I am taking MSM and glucosamine and different medicines for other problems.
Additionally, I believe, one is supposed to take iron rich vegetables/fruits for haemoglobin, reduce intake of proteins for uric acid and avoid fatty stuff for cholesterol [as stated above, in the last one year I have eaten only boiled or raw vegetables, fruits and Indian bread with lentils or vegetables]
I would be grateful to be advised on the following:
(i) Most of the vegetables [green turnip, green beet, carrot, spinach] are rich in iron, potassium, calcium, but they also contain a great amount of Vitamin A which is not good for bone, especially owing to high amount of vitamin A. Does high intake of vitamin A present in vegetables create problems. Grateful for advice.
(ii) Some of the vegetables like spinach disturbs the absorption of calcium. Should I take spinach.
(iii) My main worry is with regard to AVC. I had suffered from asthma and other allergy problems like running nose, etc. for the last twenty year. Now I have stopped taking AVC and again ailments like running nose, etc. has cropped up. Should I continue taking AVC because of osteoarthritis?
With tons of thanks and kind regards,"
01/11/2009: James from Henderson, NC, USA replies: "About your concern of vitamin-A toxicity from vegetables.
Too much vitamina-A in preforms such as retinoic acid can be toxic. It also can block the vitamin-D actions too. It is best to obtain VitA from vegetables rich in bete carotene. Our body converts it to vitA as needed so it cannot overdose. For more information, go to www.mercola.com and type in vitamin-A toxicity. You can get much information.
Living in Egypt, you can get a lot of vitD by exposing your skin to sunlight. But it is very hot, so most people avoid the sunlight, which can cause most of them, especially women, to be vitD defficient. VitD is much more than helping your bone. It has been found to help the gene expression important in controlling diseases such as cancers, diabetes, hypertension, etc."

However, it made my bowels "overactive", so I cut down the dose. Had recurrent reflux, so gradually increased the dose to the initial level, this time with the bowels cooperating. I have been taking it for 3 1/2 months now and it's nearly perfect. I have only had breakthru reflux if I eat way too much starchy food at dinnertime. An extra 1 T dose fixes that if it occurs I can even eat out at Mexican restaurants and have big helpings, and still do ok. And it's really cheap (especially compared to Prilosec)!!!!! It seems to reduce the pressure in the gut so there is less pressure at the esophageal gastric junction. I don't suppose this will work for everyone. There may be more than one mechanism for reflux. Of course the sphincter is looser as we get older, but increased gut pressure from less efficient digestion may be part of the cause, too. By the way, my asthma is completely gone, too!"

I have being health conscious since I was 16, and surprised when my doctor told me I had developed asthma; which he stated was triggered by my allergies. Before I found your site I had been using a vitamin NAC, Quercetin, fish oil, etc., to keep my asthma at bay; but I had two asthma attacks in April, when everything started blooming. I didn't want to take steroids, so I went on the internet and found your site, since I wanted to do it naturally and not by a prescription. I am very happy to say that ACV has worked for me. I take two TBSP a day straight up, it has also helped with my sinus problem, and allergies. I love it, and just to think I had the cure for my asthma in my cupboard all that time and didn't know it.
