I am happy to report that after 3 weeks of this my iron levels and energy levels have steadily improved."

02/11/2010: Jan from Falmouth, Ma, Usa replies: "In reply to Marti in Olathe, KS, I too have low iron and have been taking BSM. I had to go through a bone biopsy and they did a stain on the bone, thus finding out that I was low in iron. And yes, I have been reading that milk and dairy products do interfere with the absorbtion of iron, so I drink 1 tbs. of BSM w/soy milk daily, put it in a blender and it tastes really good. I also keep oranges on hand, as well as juice. I eat an orange a day. As he stated, I have read that vit. c helps to absorb the iron. I have yet to find out how this goes, but I will post on this as soon as I get results from my hemotologist."

BLOOD BUILDING RECIPE

YEA

[YEA]  09/11/2009: Bai Li from Houston, Texas writes: "Building Blood in Preparation for Surgery

I don't know who first gave us the recipe, but it is said that it really works:

Take a pound of beef stew meat (or any other cut you can get, no or low fat) and put it into a Glass canning jar, some do this without any added water, some add
only a little, not higher than the level of the meat. Put the lid and band on the canning jar, and put this into a canner or large deep pot, add some water and put the lid on the pot, bring to a boil, then simmer for 6 hours. All of the IRON is cooked out of the meat and into the water. Give this to the person who is anemic or anticipating surgery, and also give them Black Strap Molasses, the one with the highest iron, calcium and magnesium, listed on this website, ONE tablespoon along with the beef broth. This will shock the doctors, just how fast it will build the blood. We are giving my mother 1 cup three times a day. So you may need to cook several pounds, jars at a time. Our friends are doing this for us too, and one of them got about 1 quart of juice from 4 (four) pounds of beef.

IMPORTANT: Don't fill the jars too full, because when it is boiling you can lose some of the juice into the pot, and any juice lost is IRON lost. Leave at least a couple of inches above the meat in each jar. There are other treatments that will help and if you email me, I will reply with what else we are doing, that you may not have heard of, and you can ask your doctor for these too. The reason that this works so well is that the HEME from meat it very quickly absorbed by the body, but the HEME from vegetables is slowly absorbed by the body. You can find more information about this on the internet."

[YEA]  01/21/2008: Tanya from Olympia, Wa writes: "I wrote back in November about my anemia and would like to report that I just got a blood test and my iron is 38 percent, way into the normal range. I have eaten cream of wheat with 2 tbls of unsulphered black strap molasses and raisins with flax seed every morning since September when I was diagnosed with fibroids. I have also been drinking 1 tbls of Mothers Apple Cider Vinegar with Apple Juice every day. During my cycle I drink it first thing in the morning because I read it helps to clot blood. My cycles have been very light and I just saw my Natropath Friday and she was amazed at how high I got my iron and how well I was doing. She also has me taking some liquid herbs to shrink the fibroid. My cycles have been great only thing is the last two were only 15 days apart. When I told my Dr. about this she said perhaps it is my body getting back on track? She wants me to go back in May to get an follow-up ultrasound. I will report back when I have that done."

[YEA]  11/08/2007: Tanya from Olympia, WA writes: "I have had anemia for over a year and was treating it with iron pills that were not working. My iron went from 31 to 35 and back to 31. I had a ultrasound done and found out I had fibroids. I chose not to have any procedure done and am treating everything naturally. I tried the black strap molasses in coffee and couldn't get it down so I've been eating 1 tablespoon in a bowl of Cream of Wheat every morning with raisins and a tablespoon of flaxseed every morning. All of those foods together provide 78% of your daily iron! I just got my blood checked and I am normal! My iron is 36! That was only after one month of eating the Cream of wheat every day.

Now for my fibroids, I will get those checked in 4 more months, but I feel so much better than i did two months ago. For those I have not drank any alchohol, and stop taking birth control pills. Since Fibroids grow with Estrogen I decided after being on them 20 years it was time to give my body a break anyhow (even though I don't smoke etc) I have also been taking 1250 mg primrose oil, B-100 vitamins and turmeric. I have also been drinking a glass of Apple Cider with a tablespoon of ACV in it every night. I have been following a candida diet which if someone would like to know what it is I can post. So, thank you so much for the advice! I will definately post the results of my future ultrasound and I'm sure the news will be great!"

FOODS HIGH IN NITRILOSIDES FOR SICKLE CELL ANEMIA

YEA

[YEA]  12/05/2007: G. Michael from Reading, PA writes: "About 3 years ago I was at work when I noticed that a co-worker was very upset, so I asked her why she was so distressed. She responded that a co-worker's son was in the hospital in terrible condition with sickle-cell anemia. I told her that the Lord had given me a ministry in helping people overcome their illnesses(this was before I realized that He wanted me to write a book about the matter.) The next day I went to Albright College where I ususally did my health research. While driving to the college I started to say to the Lord "Why I am going to research a disease for which there is no cure?" Of course, the Lord ignored my ridiculous objection and I continued to the college. I went to the library, got on the computer and googled "Sickle-cell Anemia, Natural Cures" Within a couple of minutes the "de-facto" cure was on the screen. Praise The Lord! The treatment is eating foods that are high in nitrilosides. These nitrilosides are transformed in your body to thiocyanate which prevents your blood from sickling. Some are these foods are millet, african yams, sorghum, and apricot seeds. Of course, it is always important when you're adding to your diet what is going to help you, to stop unhealthy food, especially fast food. The combination is devastating to illnesses. By the way, the National Institute of Health knew about what I just told you and said that thiocyanate is a wonderful anti-sickler. Unfortunately, they did nothing with this wonderful information. After the Lord revealed to me this wonderful treatment for sickle-cell anemia I drove to work, talking to myself all the way. When I got to work I saw the father of the child whose son had the sickle-cell anemia and I told him what the Lord had just revealed to me. Within a short time his son was doing wonderfully and has been in great health ever since. And for a long time whenever I would have contact with the son's father there was such gratitude on his face. Praise The Lord"

FOODS TO AVOID

WARNING!

[WARNING!]  06/11/2008: CK from New York, USA writes: "MAYBE - INSOMNIA to the writer who wanted to know if ACV was responsible for insomnia, I would definitely say YES. I have had that same experience, with ACV, lemon, limes other citrus fruit grapes and cheese. The reason being these items contribute to anemia in certain persons. I have a genetic anemic situation.

Actually Vitamin C and garlic should be added to that watch list for persons with anemia. These items should be taken in very small doses and not regularly everyday.

In any case it is a mistake to take any one item every day over years, its always good to switch things around.
So i would say take drops of ACV and do it with the bicarbonate, but limit it to every two days or so. For the High blood pressure, i find magnesium helps even a small amt of epsom salts daily is a substitute for the ACV if one cannot tolerate that."

ICE CRAVINGS

[YEA]  08/13/2008: Angela from Tallahassee, Florida writes: "In response to the lady who ate everyone's ice and craved lemons. Eating ice is a common sign of anemia. You are/were deficient in iron. A very serious problem. Lemons are nature's natural antibiotic. Our bodies "know" what they need. When we crave chocolate we are deficient in the minerals chromium and vanadium and these deficiencies are the cause of diabetes. Just "know" that when you are craving something your body is trying to tell you it's seriously deficient in minerals, vitamins, amino acids, essential fatty acids, etc. If you are craving sugary, salty, etc things, maybe even things that are not even "food" substances, get yourself on a high quality LIQUID mineral suppliment immediately and start taking vitamins (liquid if possible) in addition to them. (There are 92 so you can't get by with taking 5 or 6.) You will find an almost immediate relief and healing. In addition, make sure you drink a tsp or 2 of Bragg's Apple Cider Vinegar in a glass of water every day to get your Ph in a slightly alkaline state. This environment is not conducive to viruses, bacterias, cancers, tumors, fungus, molds, etc. It cleanses your system, breaks down fat cells and cellulite, flushes out your kidneys and fat, helps or stops arthritis pain and multiple other problem areas including acid reflux. I could go on forever. I hope this helps someone to have a more healthy life!"

MULTIPLE REMEDIES TRIED

YEA

[YEA]  05/19/2011: Elsaeasterly from Elsewhere, Ca, Usa writes: "In January I was diagnosed as being severely anemic. My ferritin level was 2. My blood volume was down by 10%. The doctor said I had virtually no iron in my body. I had been taking blackstrap molasses (1 or 2 tablespoons a day) for about a year and unfortunately it did not help me. I knew I needed iron because I was anemic 5 years ago, but it wasn't nearly as bad then as this time.

I did not want to take the prescription after reading all the negative experiences about it. I checked here on Earth Clinic and Dr. Weil's web site and decided to try the remedies that I listed in the title. I hope these brand names are printed because I am not endorsing one in particular, and I did read about at least 2 of them here.

After 2 months, huge success! All my numbers had come up so much that my doctor looked at me with big eyes and asked, "What did you do?" She actually wrote down the names of these products so that she could recommend them to other patients.

Interestingly, in Dr. Weil's article, he recommended Floradix, but said that it probably wouldn't be enough for those with severe anemia. Well, I took it anyway and proved him wrong!

By the way, prior to my first round of bloodwork, I had been taking rather large doses of zinc. I didn't find out until I was reading up on anemia that it blocks iron absorption. I also read that you should avoid milk, eggs, tea, and chocolate. I couldn't give up these items completely, but I reduced the milk and eggs, and I didn't take my iron within a couple of hours of consuming tea or chocolate. I had great results anyway"

The first day I took it I felt just a little better. The second day I felt 95% better than i've felt in a long time. I also had blood work done a few days ago and found out I am no longer anemic and not only that but my lipase enzyme levels were back to normal. All this change within a month. PEKMEZI

YEA

[YEA]  12/08/2010: Demina from Athens, Greece writes: "It is very weird that no one here has never or so I think- mentioned the traditional grape molasses named pekmezi in Turkish or petimezi in Greek Http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Petimezi I guess that it is a local product and not widespread in other places in the world otherwise the page blackstrap molasses would have been a tiny sub page of this grapes molasses pages product.

Pekmezi is made by boiling down slowly for hours the first juice you get after crushing the grapes (the very first step for producing wine before any kind of fermentation) until this juice becomes a mild-thick black-brown sweet syrup. Actually in Greece we can do it in our own kitchen provided we find tons of fresh crushed grape juice. It is a difficult home procedure as we need "gallons" of this fresh juice to produce a bottle of pekmezi. There are a lot of wine producing countries in the world but I don't know if any others than the two above have also this product -well, lazy housewives ? :-)
Even wikipedia doesn't mention pekmezi in its "grapes" page as a grapes product (although there is a petimezi page, mentioned above)
If you just consider the raw material grapes- the grape molasses is far better than any other molasses. There are a lot of "grape" diets but non "sugar cane" ones, and there are a lot of health claims for grapes.

Anyway the grape molasses is so rich in iron too, that you can taste it. One spoon per day is the best home remedy for iron deficiency anemia. In Greece this was a must have remedy for young girls with heavy menstruation, actually not a remedy in a sense of healing the heavy menstruation, but in a sense of rebuilding the body the blood and the stamina. Pregnant women used to take it also. It was a material difficult to produce and every home had bottle as a medicine in its kitchen. I said was because the big pharma came and now the population has been brainwashed to take iron pills for anemia and millions of synthetic vitamins. Also as it is a have it all super food- when a small child was very ill and refused to eat we gave him a spoon of petimezi and we were sure that its body had all the necessary nutrients to combat illness and we didn't mind that the child refused to eat. I remember when I was 7 with chicken pox and 40Celsius for a week and I was saying "I'm dying" my mother gave me pekmezi and water as my sole food. I do not know in other countries what kind of food they feed (before the mass products appear) the very ill children when they refuse to eat but I suppose those exact foods would be the richest in nutrients foods available locally. Check on them in your country!"
