ACNE PREVENTION FOR KIDS AND TEENS

01/12/2012: Mom from Anonymous writes: "Ted. I was wondering if u could advise regarding acne prevention for kids and teens. Maybe if you could help out with a regimen? That would be greatly appreciated as this is my main concern.

As for myself, when reading your posts, certain things are recurrent: acv, bicarbonate, lecithin granules, zinc, hydrogen peroxide. I might have missed out on something here. How do we need to take these supplements in battling resilient acne? I am presently on an anti-candida detox since over a month and am wondering if I will never be able to eat fruit or have a slice of cake from time to time...

Please advise. Many many thanks for your help and patience."

01/16/2012: Ted from Bangkok, Thailand replies: "Your main emphasis probably should be to take chromium to get the sugar down. I prefer 1000 mcg a day of chromium, in form of chromium polynicotinate. The B3 is required to relax and therefore stabilize the hormones. Niacinamide is taken in the evening at 500 mg. Zinc maybe required, in form of zinc gluconate, 25 mg for two or three days and then once a week. There is evidence from my files that getting the zinc up is a problem. The problem stems from the fact that fillers block their absorption, such as calcium is one, perhaps magnesium stearate. Do not take accutane or any form of this, it causes hair loss and long term problems. While it may cure one condition it creates a whole sets of incurable issues and hair loss is just one problem I have to treat. N Acetyl Cysteine is good and it used for blood sugar control and other things, such as glutathione, which increases antioxidant. You have to get non-effervescent kind preferably capsule form being the safest, as supplement company tend to add aspartame and make it worse. The dose is 500 mg I used is two times a day. This is the main regimen but two important fact, no sugar and no vegetable oils of any kind, especially polyunsaturated, they clog the pores.

TED'S ADVICE SOUGHT REGARDING ACNE THAT RUNS IN THE FAMILY

05/15/2011: P. writes: "Dear Ted, I am a recent member of Earth Clinic and have been avidly reading your posts. My main concerns is acne. To a certain extent it runs in both my family and my husband's family. I am 36 years old and I have suffered from this condition since my teens. Tried Roaccutane three times. Successful results were short lived after stopping the medication. I spent a lot of time and money at dermatologists to no avail. I have always followed a very healthy diet, eliminating fried and processed food, trying to stick to organic as much as possible and limiting sugar. Despite all the treatment failures, I still believe that one day I will have a clean and vibrant skin.

With the hope that you have time to reply, my questions to you are as follows:

1-Can i do anything to prevent my children from having acne? Mine started at nine! How can i help them in preventing this plague? Could you recommend a prevention plan and what age should i start it for my sons and daughters?

2- In the case prevention is not an option, how easy is it to eliminate teenage acne (assuming it is aggressive and stubborn) and what treatment plan would you recommend?

3- What treatment plan would you recommend to an adult with severe acne?

I would be so grateful if you could reply and would like to take the opportunity to thank you for all your recommendations."

05/15/2011: Ted from Bangkok, Thailand replies: "Acne is complicated it can be caused by sugar, bacteria, fat oxidation, hormonal issues, REDOX where it is not negative enough on ORP, inflammation, wrong kinds of fats, heavy metals from paint exposure, dehydration are just a few things that come to my mind.
Normal sugar for me is 85 to 90 mg/dL. Today's standard is 100-110, but this is actually high sugar because cancer expands starting at that number so I used a different standard, where cancer and diabetes don't occur which is 85 to 90.

Oxidation of oils and nearly all polyunsaturated oils are oxidized even without the heat can clog the area but the reason why we cannot detect the smell of rancid oil is all the vegetables I am aware of will put a fragrance to neutralized the smell. The only oil I know of that generally don't oxidized as easily and can be used in cooking is butter, lard and coconut oil. Something we have used extensively 40 or 50 years ago. I am sure you are aware of it, but you may not be aware that certain oils are anti inflammatory such as salmon fish oil but there is a twist, if you take too much of it it might raise triglyceride level, the oil might be oxidized if there are too old and you can not take it every day, you can take it twice a week as well is GLA, evening primrose oil twice a day. The oils itself is subject to rancid if not enough antioxidants of oil compounds are in it. The only antioxidants of oils I am aware of is BHT so I might take once of twice a week because of that.

The sugar is a tricky issue, for example, doctors measure your blood sugar based on 12 hour blood fasting sugar. However, that is not how we get acne. We get acne because of sugar spikes which occur when we eat, and another way is your sugar does to go down as quickly after you eat. This can be controlled simply by drinking carrot juice freshly squeezed before every meals. For some reason or another it gets the sugar down to normal levels after you eat. The sugar spikes occur we can control by diluting with water such as not exceeding sugar, 3%, or 2% or 1% depending on your sugar tolerance. To measure your sugar tolerance prepare a 1 glass of 3% sugar and measure blood sugar 15 after intakes and should not exceed 110 but ideally 105 mg/dL after consuming it. If exceeds that you got sugar intolerance. Get to the level at which you can get sugar tolerance to normal.

Dehydration is one the issues not discussed in cause of acne and the fact that acne can occur in anytime which your sugar level is at its highest. So it is necessary to hydrate you at those times, especially hot weather or excerise.

Immune compromised or lacking in certain amino acid could also be the cause, such as histidine, lysine, or too much excitotoxins, aspartame, glutamate is another one. Hormone is the most common ones amongst acne when it is high and when sugar, or metals or oxidative in combinations can create ideal combinations even if your consumption are low on each one.

The other problem is accutane and its various variations cause long term acne or hair loss because it damages the liver the only way to get rid of this is probably coffee detox plus a combination of skin detox. A skin detox is to prepare a paste of bentonite clay on the skin and put on skin and fan dry it, then wash it. Repeat this 2 more times. You may have to do it for the entire week to get of it at least.

Ted"

05/25/2011: Diamond from Salisbury, Ma.usa replies: "I think the main ingredient to resolving acne is your diet, 100% of Americans do not eat healthy, it's mostly fast foods and more junk foods, I hear a lot of people say but I don't have time to cook or eat good home cooked meals(?)but the main complaints are why do I or we have acne? by ridding yourself of acne eat fresh greens by the bushles full, eat fresh fruits, veggies, nice brown rice is a great absorbant of any impurities in your body, and white rice is as good a substitute as any. I'm deathly sick because of my poor eating habits. Whatever you do, don't wait for a doctor to fix your problems. Good luck"

05/27/2011: Thomas from Chicago, Il replies: "Hey there Ted,

My name is Thomas. I saw you replied to someone's post about acne so I decided to shoot my shot. My problem isn't regular acne with pus filled pimples. I have like this oil stuck in my skin and I have to squeeze it out (even though I have enough craters in my face like little holes) Do you have any recommendations for this kind of acne? I dont know what to call it. I just went and bought some antioxidants because I know you said "when blackheads are present antioxidants are low". So can you PLEASEEE help me with this skin problem? I've had this problem since I was 8, I'm now 20. I dont want to keep going thru life like this, it's holding me back...

Thanks Ted, Have a great day! "

05/29/2011: Carol from Anacortes, Wa, U.S.A. replies: "Check out the posts about Jojoba - it's great for many things... I recommend it as a great makeup remover; you need only one drop on a tissue to remove mascara (if it is not applied heavily and you turn the tissue over for your 2nd eye)."

06/16/2011: Ted from Bangkok, Thailand replies: "Thomas, You have to take magnesium chloride solution, 10 drops 3 times a day. That reduces calcium buildup in the acne, it will take time--about 1 month usually. The antioxidants help, but if oily face for example, it doesn't help. EDTA may also help if severe enough but that must be disodium edta or tetrasodium edta, 100 mg twice a day. Bromelain 10% at least, 1/4 teaspoon 3 times a day helps digest undigested proteins that can cause blockages of the circulation. If you have dry skin, or scarring, then you need lysine 1/4 teaspoon four times a day at least. It requires that it be powdered lysine or lysine without the calcium phosphate as fillers or other similar additives, as it worsens the condition. It helps if threonine and glutamine are added at least at similar amounts and frequency. There might be zinc and vitamin A deficiency if oily skin.

Ted"

12/29/2011: P replies: "Hello Ted, Since last May, I have tried to follow strictly all the advice above. I also included apple cider vinegar orally and topically and homeopathy. But the results were very shallow. I started zapping with a hulda clark type zapper in the hope that this might have a radical result, but two weeks later, this september, i got to know i am pregnant and had to stop it altogether. In the meantime, i have been conducting lots of research on acne solutions that i have not tried yet, ranging from bob beck electro herbalism devices, Rife machines, infra red light therapy, zhongzhou demodex creams, GAPS diet. I am truly lost. I come from a family with no major history of acne, but strange enough, all my siblings have had severe and resistant acne, non responding to accutane. Our diet is mediterranean, so no junk food, lots of olive oil and vegetables. No obesity, reasonable amount of vitamin D3.

Please Ted, is there anything else you can recommend. Of course I feel miserable that at my age i have to deal with this horrible skin problem, but i am also determined to protect my kids (eldest is 7) from this handicap and ailment, in the hope that they will always have a healthy and vibrant skin. I know that your time is tight and that you are helping people with very serious sicknesses, but believe me, resistant and severe acne can literally break a life. Zillion thx!"

01/16/2011: Ted from Bangkok, Thailand replies: "There is no known cure for accutane poisoning but something did help which was Threonine and lysine, but it takes something like 2 months in one case I have treated, since threonine increases the ability for the glands of skin and intestines to rid of toxins, I don't know yet how to modify genes affecting accutane (that's what they do) in decreasing the sebum glands. In fact it may also affect later generations also if the mother at least took accutane, again my modification of gene expression at the genetic levels. I did some experiment with that through plants so it possible to modify it without waiting for mutations or plant development in succeeding generations (evolution).

What I do know is accutane has a tendency to cause high homocysteine levels, and other gene modifiers, such as trimethylglycine, B12, folic acid, vitamin D, vitamin K2 may effect the reversal of some affects of accutane.

The lysine increased the protection of bacteria from entering the face, resulting in decreased acne. Inflammatory types of acne were decreased if uric acid status and therefore antioxidants were low. So the children should have normal not low uric acid, their requirements for meats are actually higher in this case to raise uric acid levels. You probably know that fish oil also caused decreased acne too, as well as zinc. The selenium status is important too, as it effects glutathione, low glutathione also has the same effect on acne. The selenium must be taken first or at the same time as iodine SSKI is applied to reduce the acne. This will reduce the acne also, along with some zinc, sodium ascorbate, and normal uric acid. Somewhere in our line of ancestors we lost the ability to produce vitamin C as the antioxidant, and to get around that we use uric acid as the antioxidant, provided of course that our pH is optimal (alkaline by today's definition because our foods are 90% acidic). So you need to check the children's homocysteine, uric acid, as well as vitamin K2 m4 is only found in organ meats (especially pancreas, kidneys) and raw butter, maybe pasteurized butter will have too. So the fact that we think we eat healthy, the fact is high vegetarian diets actually have low uric acid antioxidants, vegetarians and supplements have high heavy metals, so no perfect world actually exists, that goes for meat eaters which causes constipation, and other issues just the same. The best form of oils is hemp oil with some fish oils, for acne.

Ted"

SIDE EFFECTS FROM TREATING ACNE WITH MITE REMEDIES

09/11/2010: Piper from Toronto, On writes: "Question for Ted,

I have had problems with acne for some time. I have had several outbreaks of rosacea which were quite painful. I have been trying to get my skin under control for some time. I read of demodex mites and it makes sense to me that on some people, these may get out of control. Over the years my acne has spread, and I think this may be the mites spreading. I have been drinking the borax water, oil pulling and applying Apple Cider Vinegar to my skin. I also have a borax bath about once a week. Today I had a bath with about 1/4-1/3rd cup of borax. I did a few things different. I apply mango as a gommage and I had noticed some peeling skin from sun, so I put on my back and shoulders, but did not rinse off as I did my face. I thought the bath would be fine to rinse it off. I did an oil pull in the bath. The water was almost unbearably hot. I had let it fill and got in, but decided just to deal with it. At the 15 min mark I spit the oil and rinsed my mouth. Shortly thereafter I felt my back and it was covered in little bumps. Then I noticed my chest and stomach and the sides of my breasts were covered in little bumps-tiny whiteheads. My skin felt like sandpaper. I stayed in the water for another 15 minutes so 1/2 hour in total. When I got out my skin felt hot, not hot from the water but hot from the inside. It is now about 2 hours after the bath and the bumps have gone away. Could you explain what happened and if it is a good thing? Piper65@gmail.com. Thanks."

09/30/2010: Ted from Bangkok, Thailand replies: "Demodex can't stand borax bath and tries to get out of the skin. They usually get a rude awakening when there is borax in the water. I have seen other people, who do that and it got out of their skin, but they just used the borax and hydrogen peroxide, as it goes deeper. As for the heat, I think it is some of the effects of oil pulling."

BLACKHEADS AND WHITEHEADS

12/14/2007: Samantha from Clifton, TX writes: "Actually I have a question. Is there anything that will get rid of blackheads and whiteheads (I considered whiteheads the hard white bumps under the skin)?"

Ted from Bangkok, Thailand replies: "Dear Samantha: Yes, that's a good description for whiteheads. First, the blackheads are caused by excess of the oil producing glands of the skin. When the oil is oxidized in presence of air, it becomes black. If the oil is not oxidized by the oil because it is deep in the skin, it becomes white. Therefore, both gets oxidized by differently the black comes from the melanin on the surface of the skin, while melanin is not yet reacted if it is still deep in the pores.

Whatever the description excess sebum production or oil production is due to a zinc deficiency. The best zinc is zinc acetate, or zinc citrate or zinc gluconate. These will reduce the excess oil production thus stopping the whiteheads and blackheads.

The other issue appears that the oils in the body gets oxidized to quickly. This indicates that the person eats acid forming food and the foods eaten tend to be oily also. The quick oxidation oils is due to the body's antioxidant to be quite low. Therefore taken vitamin E and sodium ascorbate will help.

However, some dietary control measures are also helpful such as avoiding acid forming foods from fried chicken, bread, fried foods, chocolates, cocoa (cocoa and chocolate is high in copper and reduces the body's available zinc), white flour, cakes, cheeses, pastries, cookies, pizza, coffee, and coke. Whole fruits and green vegetables will help. Taking some meat in 20% of the diet is moderately safe, but those meats should be from fishes or chicken and preferable boiled, oven baked, or steamed.

I have found that taking fulvic acid added to the drinking water, or even adding 1/4 teaspoon of natural sea salt in one liter of drinking water to also help this condition by causing the balances in minerals instead of imbalances. A pinch of baking soda added to the drinking water also helps improve the quality of the drinking water. The best form of drinking water to take is actually an R.O. water with 1/4 teaspoon of natural sea salt and a pinch of baking soda.

Most water, even WITH a filtered water is often a contamination in itself since the old copper, in presence of microbes tend to cause a generation of excess heavy free radical metals in the drinking water. It is all too common fact that this might also be one of the leading cause of whitehead and blackhead from excess free radical production causing the body's to oxidized the oil too rapidly."

ACNE STARTED AFTER 1 MONTH OF APPLE CIDER VINEGAR

08/19/2007: K writes: "Dear Ted, Hope everything's well. I am very much impressed of how you have shared your knowledge and helped people with your valuable advices in the Earth Clinic website.

I desperately need your advice,Ted. I have high blood pressure and have discovered the curative powers of ACV. I drink 1 shot glass of ACV (approx 2 tablespoons) in an 8 oz of water, sometimes with honey, 2-3x a day. I started taking this ACV remedy a month ago. It did lower my blood pressure, however, I noticed that I started having acne. I've had pimples before, but nothing comes close to this --- pimples and small bumps (like whiteheads and blackheads) all over my face.

Reading your posts in Earth Clinic, I have somehow understood what causes the acne. Is it because my body's level of acidity is high (caused by ACV) and my body does not have enough antioxidants (including zinc) which causes my body to secrete excessive oil to get rid of toxins, and the oils harden faster than my body can get rid of it? I would still want to continue with the ACV to regulate my blood pressure.

But my game plan would be the following, but would need to know your advice if this would be the best remedy for me:

1. I will still continue with the ACV remedy (for one it also helped me lose weight). But I will follow your ACV remedy (The Ted's ACV Remedy), the ACV Baking Soda remedy to neutralize the acidity of ACV and normalize my pH levels.

2. To help with my acne, I will take the following daily: - Vitamin E (400 i.u.), once a day - Zinc Gluconate (50 mg), once a day - should I take this daily or just 3x a week? how long? - Granulated Lecithin (1 tablespoon, 15 grams) - can I sprinkle this in my morning oatmeal?

3. I just started using Hydrogen Peroxide 3% as topical for acne, and it does dry up the bumps, but another pimple has showed up today. I think, it is because I have not started taking the supplements and your ACV Baking Soda remedy. I just remedied the external but nothing on the internal problems.

4. In terms of my diet, I just started on No Flour, No Sugar, No Dairy Diet. I gained 30 lbs ever since I moved to Memphis 3 years ago and I want to lose weight. Will the ACV Baking Soda Remedy help me lose the weight?

Ted, I desperately need your advice on how to manage my blood pressure and to rid of my acne, and I would also like to know if the above-mentioned plan would be the best remedy for me. Hope to hear from you soon. Thank you very much in advance. Have a great week ahead. "

Ted from Bangkok, Thailand replies: "... As to the fact that apple cider vinegar cause lower blood pressure, this is quite true. I have noticed many of my friends who take either a lot of apple cider vineger, or people who eats lots of pickled foods which are basically foods in even simple distilled vinegar have consistently low blood pressure. As why this is so, the acetic or acetate helps detoxify the liver. Liver basically does that by acetylation. The other properties of apple cider vinegar is its ability to dissolve oils which does a fair job and this can be seen when distilled vinegar or apple cider vinegar is used to clean grimy oils in ovens and kitchen tables. The one properties that is problematic is its acidity that needs to be neutralized, since a body can sometimes have insufficient capacity to neutralized them without sufficient bicarbonates.

As to whether baking soda with apple cider vinegar will reduce it, it will generally reduce them, but ths is not a perfect formula, however it IS A SIMPLE and SAFE way. A more complicated formula that works better is the need to mix 1/4 teaspoon of baking soda plus 1/8 teaspoon of potassium bicarbonate plus 2 tablespoon of ACV in 1/2 glass of water. So in case there's a necessity to take more due to certain emergencies, the dose is increased in proportionally.

Acidity is indeed a real problem where it accelerates oxidation, which is why it is causing acne, and clearly adding bicarbonates is a necessity. Body's oil become rancid, they harden, then they clogged without sufficient antioxidants as well as zinc. It should be noted that if a vegetable oils are left out LONG ENOUGH, they become rancid, and they do harden, that's why using vegetable oils as a lubricants are not ideal use. Vegetable oils from time to time uses vitamin E, or BHT to prevent them from being rancid, and hardens. An it is the same story with the body and thus antioxidant such as vitamin E, vitamin C cannot be avoided.

However, the other issue that we hardly deal with, is the excessive use of vegetable oils in the diet and how difficult it is for the liver to rid of it and should be halved or reduced more.

It is unbelievable the degree of insults we give to our own liver, such as cigarettes smoking, chemicals in shampoos, alcoholic drinks, fatty foods for example. Thus snacks which uses vegetable oils, potato chips (cancer causing acrylamide from high temperature cooking), french fries should be avoided if at all possible, while vitamin E, vitamin C I would consider taking them. It is this rancidity that accumulates in the body's blood vessels (hardened oils) that shows up in the face as ACV loosens its grip from the blood pressure and show up on the face as well, not just the issue of acidity and lack of antioxidants. My guess is you are taking way too much ACV for the body and that can increased the blood serum of hardened oils that gets loose in the blood stream and our body is slow to rid of them since we might be consuming too much of it to some extent, at any one time. To prevent this, frequency of dose as opposed to the amount of dose at any particular time should be less taxing on the body still.

As to the main questions:

1. I will still continue with the ACV remedy (for one it also helped me lose weight). But I will follow your ACV remedy (The Ted's ACV Remedy), the ACV Baking Soda remedy to neutralize the acidity of ACV and normalize my pH levels.

As mentioned I can use this or a more effective one with the use of baking soda, potassium bicarbonate plus ACV, but the issue is finding the potassium bicarbonate. The remedy is mentioned in the above, and potassium should be used in congruent to the sodium, to maintain somewhat normal sodium:potassium ratio and not to overdo things. There are three simple weight loss tips that I have found to be effective: granulated lecithin 1 tablespoon per day, avoiding dinners, and lower dietary calorie intake (fats and sugars). 2. To help with my acne, I will take the following daily: - Vitamin E (400 i.u.), once a day - Zinc Gluconate (50 mg), once a day - should I take this daily or just 3x a week? how long?

I would be considering anywhere from once a week to 3 times a week. The length of it I would determine by dryness of the skin, and loss of apetite. Too much zinc can result in loss of appetite, too excess in any one period can cause vomiting. That's why I don't follow the bottle's instruction. They seem to promote excess use.

- Granulated Lecithin (1 tablespoon, 15 grams) - can I sprinkle this in my morning oatmeal?

It can be used or mixed in every meal. 3. I just started using Hydrogen Peroxide 3% as topical for acne, and it does dry up the bumps, but another pimple has showed up today.

I think, it is because I have not started taking the supplements and your ACV Baking Soda remedy. I just remedied the external but nothing on the internal problems.

Alkalinity, vitamin E, an zinc is an important element. But then so does granulated lecithin to reduced the hardened oils out of the blood serum just the same. 4. In terms of my diet, I just started on No Flour, No Sugar, No Dairy Diet.

I gained 30 lbs ever since I moved to Memphis 3 years ago and I want to lose weight. Will the ACV Baking Soda Remedy help me lose the weight?

Usually weight gain were late night meals, especially leaning on high fatty foods meal. The ACV baking soda may help loose weight. But most weight reduction is seen from avoiding dinner and supper meals (or at least take light meals), reduction of dietary fats and sugar.

It SHOULD BE noted, that exercise can quickly reduce the body's sugar and to a very limited extent the fats. The meals I would lean on is vegetables, complex carbs and low fat proteins (usually from good non contaminated fishes). Proteins and certain amino acid has been shown to cause the body to burn fats more effectively and hence this is WHY exercise does not reduce the fat, the problem lies in dietary makeup that needs to be changed otherwise the body simply can't burn the fat, especially the low fat dietary proteins from fishes, my favorite is the salmon and tuna, but others are o.k. However never the clams or oysters. Those are high in heavy metals and cholesterol.

While I have limited time to do experiments, I do know that using colorless iodine when used as a cleaning solution now can also dissolve some rancid hardened oils on the face. However, I tend to be deliberate and test small areas just to be sure it won't worsen the condition, but this is still experimental.

The things that was not mentioned in the email is supplementary magnesium and vitamin B complex, especially the vitamin Bs (mostly from the B3) also helps. Certain properties of the niacinamide dissolves hard fats, and thus can reduce that. However once formed (acne) a suitable cleaning solution has to remove the hardened fats which causes acne first. Whatever supplements cannot stop once the hardened fats already have clogged the skin and a suitable solution to remove them such as distilled vinegar, apple cider vinegar, colorless iodine, or even a solution of niacinamide vitamin B3 are some possbilities I would consider. I would use a small towel and use that on my face, although it is likely I have to test them to see if it works or not first, or that I won't have a skin reaction just to be sure. Hydrogen peroxide IS DRYING kills the bacteria, but IT DOES NOT dissolve the rancid hardened fats which HARDEN the skin pores.

Ted"

Alaina from New Orleans, Louisiana, USA replies: "Please know that your weight gain is your body's reaction to acidity and toxins. You must look into hydration to save your life. I found Earth Clinic a long time ago and have read the columns often. There are always great ideas for healing here. The one thing I always find missing is WATER. Go to watercure.com and read Dr. Batmanghelidj's research. It is the one thing everyone misses, the one critical thing...without water the body cannot function properly. So all the supplementation and all the great food cannot be utilized properly. There must be Balance in the sodium, potassium, and water for the body. I KNOW this because I am a living proof. Do NOT try to start drinking a lot of water at one time. Build up over the course of time. Do NOT try to drink water without using sea salt. (Your body needs SEA SALT to work properly.) Do not use the sea salt without drinking the correct proportion of water and eating the fruit. (Do Not use table salt, it is poison for the body.) Alkaline water, Himalayan Sea Salt, (I have found this Sea Salt to be the best)and Sole (see American Bluegreen for the way to make and use Sole)for the sodium and minerals your body needs in colloidal form, and Banana/Orange/Orange Juice or other fruit for the potassium. Water is the absolute beginning for any true healing of body and mind. Please start there. Blessings, Alaina "

TINY ERUPTIONS ON BOTH CHEEKS

07/14/2007: Sheryl writes: "I am concerned about some particular kind of tiny eruptions on both cheeks just below the eyes. I have developed them after my son was born. These eruptions are different because they won't go away instead they were increasing in number. After oil pulling they haven't increased but I haven't got rid of them either. Earlier these eruptions were puffed up but now they are flat. I should be having them for almost 2 years now.. please tell ted, how can I get rid of them. And also suggest something for a better facial skin I don't want to see wrinkles on my face yet.I am 32 years old. Can u tell me what are these eruptions called? Waiting to hear from you. Thank you. Sheryl"

Ted from Bangkok, Thailand replies: "As to the skin eruptions, those are a bit more difficult to resolve. However, it is a well known fact that free radical heavy metals are oil soluble and oily foods used in stir fried cooking (might be common in some Indian cooking) causes the oils to act like sponge and absorb free metals, either free radical metal iron, nickel, and perhaps other trace metals of cadmium and other things. As a result it is generally best to avoid oily foods as it oils block normal hormonal functions responsible for immune system, which if suppressed may cause skin eruptions. Regardless of the name, a skin eruption is either deep below the skin, in the middle layer of the skin, or near the top, which manifests itself as a pimple. If it is bad one that goes deep than it becomes a boils. In this case regardless of the name, the body's immune system is suppressed from oil foods or heavy metals. As well as capillary constriction from acidosis. Assuming heavy metals, oily foods are avoided and alkalizing is practiced. That leaves the deficiency of zinc and blood sugar spikes as the cause, sometimes bought from a sweet binge, eating ice cream more than usual. The remedy here I think requires zinc gluconate taken twice a week for only 2-3 weeks should be sufficient, abstinence of sweet foods and oily foods.

Especially heavy dinner meals. It is necessary to get the urinary pH near 7 when alkalizing so that the sweat glands open and clear itself up. The reason why it clogs is the sweat is concentrated, too oily and the fats become rancid due to lack of antioxidants such as vitamin E, molybdenum, and zinc."

MALT VINEGAR

06/24/2007: Sania from Dhaka, Bangladesh writes: "Can we use malt vinegar instead of acv to apply to skin to get rid of acne?"

Ted from Bangkok, Thailand replies: "Sania:

Both Apple cider vinegar and malt vinegar can be used as substitute to apply to skin for acne. However, I believe it is a mild one.

A more effective way is to use white distilled vinegar 2 parts to 1 part 3% H2O2 solution. Before doing that, wash clean the hands and area to apply and do that liberally. Both the malt and acv have limited penetrating ability, but not the H2O2 and white distilled vinegar which are more effective at killing the bacteria.

However this does not resolve the underlying cause of hyperactive sebum, which secretes excessive oils to rid the body of toxins, whenever the body's zinc levels are reduced and the body's acidity level is high, causing a haven for them to grow and oxidize bodily and harden the oils faster than the body can get rid of it.

I therefore would prefer to solve the problem with dealing with the underlying cause, eating too much sweets, oil foods, alkalizing with baking soda (1/4 teaspoon in 1/2 glass of water taken twice a day once in the morning and once before bedtime). In this instance the lemon and baking soda will likely to work better here as it raises the body's pH to a desired level to lower the bacteria overload, where the remedy is one whole freshly squeezed lime (8 teaspoon) plus 1/2 teaspoon of baking soda in 1/2 glass of water taken twice a day, once in the morning and once before bedtime. Also zinc gluconate 50 mg. usually taken for twice a week or three times a week.

Also the body's antioxidants is low, such as vitamin E, and vitamin C, and alkalizing body (acid body causes low antioxidant). If you are familiar with flaxseed and leaving them out for a couple of weeks the oil hardens and they become rancid or oil. It is the same thing with your body whenever the body's antioxidants is low, the oil hardens, and clogs to form acne.

There is nothing mysterious what other people make of it. People rarely think, molybdenum, copper and zinc as antioxidants either, but when I come to realized that they exists in superoxide dismutaste (a super antioxidant) which exists in Molybdenum Superoxide Dismutase, and Copper/Zinc dismutase, I get to realize that it is not JUST the alkalinity, and vitamin E antioxidants, it is also the minerals.

Finally the other thing that I am well aware of is the recirculating rancid oils that exists in the body and constantly accumulates. Most fat soluble foods and fat soluble vitamins the body accumulates in the liver, and in some cases hardens the liver to call it "cirrhosis" which is basically the liver that does the detoxification, and when the liver cannot get rid of excess fat, the liver is left to bathed in it own toxins of excess fat, killing itself almost like a suicide. As a result, I would consider taking one tablespoon of granulated lecithin (yeah, I take it too to help reduce my acne), so that the body can get rid of excess oils found in food.

It should be noted that certain fats can harden like a cholesterol-like fat and that can lead to acne too. In which case vitamin B complex can help the body process them to convert the cholesterol to other things the body needs instead of just accumulating them.

However the biggest single cause of acne I have found is eating ice cream and sundae. The second runner up is chocolates and pastries, especially oily ones. Excess calcium clogs too, but if it is in an excess, it becomes kidney stones, gallbladder stones, and cysts, being an extreme form. A milder form simply clogs and participates to some extent in the acne issue too, but to a lesser extent.

This should explain most of the causes of acne, which is just only my personal opinion that seems to work for me at the very least."

BAD ACNE

04/02/2007: Harry from NY, NY writes: "is it ok to peroxide with a (post braces) plate- metal wire over back of 6 bottom teeth only if so, what way would be best, inhale, drink, could i inhale via nose to avoid contact with wire, also i could rinse mouth with white tea after (antioxidant) to stop negitive affect, i have tried everything else for BAD acne (nothing seems to work) ( also tried applying peroxide topically-no result)"

Ted from Bangkok, Thailand replies: "Dear Harry:

For a bad acne, the body antioxidants are low, zinc is low, and sometimes oily foods and sugar foods are the problem. The oils get oxidized because the body's antioxidants are low. Rosemary oil is the best antioxidants, taken several drops a day. Peppermint oil applied to the acne helps on topical application.

Zinc acetate, or zinc gluconate 50 mg. taken for a couple of days, such as 4-5 days out of a week for only one week should raise that level and you can discontinue. Vitamin C sodium ascorbate 1000 mg, and vitamin E 400 i.u. helps. The rough clue for zinc deficiency, is oily skin.

If peroxide is taken internally, drink them quickly the peroxide won't degrade as quickly due to dental work, and metal wires and should detoxify whatever chemical toxins that is causing the oxidation.

Finally some coriander should help remove the heavy metal buildup which is a long term cause of acne. Just remember that the oils get hardened from oxidation because the body's antioxidant is low, and the immunity is low.

It takes awhile for adult acne to reduce, with about 1 month's time being average. Most people think it can be relieved within days, but those are true for just teenagers. Adult acne is different. In case of a woman, the common cause were due to excess perfume use and it takes more than a month of discontinued perfume and stir fried, and fried foods to notice improvement. It seems people who eat beans, with high oxalates, seemed to increase acne. To reduce these oxalates, and calcium that clogs taking 1/2 teaspoon of baking soda twice a day (men dose) in 1/2 glass of water further reduce serum calcium, but adding some 1/4 teaspoon of citric acid also helps in removal of other metals causing the oxidation of oils.

Oil pulling may help reduce the metal load if done after brushing the teeth and do for at least a couple of minutes of swishing in the mouth.

Lipid oxidation of body oils seemed to be initiated from fried foods and chemical contaminants, acidosis, and high heavy metals."

PIMPLES ON THE BUTT

11/05/2006: Donna from BC, Canada writes: "Does anybody know a cure for pimples on your butt? It seems to be affected by the drink and food levels consumed. Any input would be appreciated."

Ted from Bangkok, Thailand replies: "Dear Donna: The cause of pimples are relatively easy, eating sweets, such as chocolates, ice cream, sundae, bakery, sweet fruit drinks, cola, are the major cause. Refraining from eating for at least a week, take plenty of zinc acetate, selenium and chromium will help reduce it. In addition, I found chitosan to be very helpful too."

DARREL FOLLOWS UP

10/18/2006: Darrel from Toronto, Canada writes: "Dear Ted, I've been following your advice on acne for the face through earth clinic website for about a month on sept 18. here is what i'm taking
50mg chelate zinc 1x a day
50 mg chelate manganese
1x 500mg b5 capsule
1x 500mg inositol capsule
1x 500mg vitamin c
3x 400 ie vitamin e 1x
1 tbls soy lecithin 2x a day
oatmeal every other day mixture
1-2 times a day baking soda 1/2 teaspoon 1/4 teaspoon citric acid

add sometimes: 2 tbls apple cider vinegar 3 drops hydrogen peroxide 35%
1 tbls spoon brewers yeast 1x 2 tbls spoon colloidal minerals(fulvic acid) twice a week and spray hydrogen peroxide on face

it seems to help but i'm still getting acne -- do you have any other suggestions? do you know of any spot treatments? I get black heads on my nose also what you do for that? Also i have a few different kinds of acne scars, i usually get these gigantic cystic/nodule acne that never goes back down. when i get them usually needs cortisone shots. they leave a bump sticking out on my nose per Nodule for years. any suggestions on how to get rid of that. went to the dermatologist and he got one out that scared bad so i'm not gonna cut out the rest. Your help would be very appreciated. thanks a lot! Really appreciated your help!!! Darrel"

Ted from Bangkok, Thailand replies: "Dear Darrel: Your acne is a reflection of body's elimination is not good, or the body's immune system imbalances, or toxic is found or body's antioxidant is low.

The best way is to try do some oil pulling.

Go here: www.earthclinic.com/Remedies/oil_pulling.html. 'It will remove heavy metals out the body.

The article or links don't know this, but I do. The metals are oil soluble and our mouth is the only external organ were fluids get recirculated and where you can get it removed from recirculating the toxins back into the systems. In heavy metals kit I make, I use oils to pull the metals out from water based system so the color can detect the presence of heavy metals in the oil rather than the water.

The other thing you need to consider is the fulvic acid. I have seen this cured many times. You must take note that if zinc of any particular brand is not working, it should show its results the next day, then switch brands. However before doing this you need to chew on the zinc supplements and leave it in the mouth preferably under the tongue for at least 5 minutes so the body can absorb it.

Most people who have acne have a zinc deficiency and most zinc supplements simply do not work because the tablet form don't get absorbed.

Colloidal minerals have very little fulvic acid. You need to buy those that clearly LABELS fulvic acid. Otherwise it might not work either.

Just want to remind you of a newer formula that I made which is theoretically more effective than the older citric acid and baking soda. The formula for alkalize and raising negative ORP (oxidation reduction potential) is as follows: one whole freshly squeezed lemon plus adding 1/4 teaspoon of baking soda in intervals until the fizzing stops, then add some water to 1/2 glass and drink this twice a day. You can normalize two of three of your body's parameters with just one stone, the vitamin C level, the pH, and the body's antioxidation level called ORP to an optimum value all at once, even with the proper phosphate levels to boot."

CYSTIC ACNE

09/18/2006: Darrel from Toronto, Canada writes: "What does Ted from Bangkok recommend for acne(large cystic acne and oily face with large pores). Thanks."

Ted from Bangkok, Thailand replies: "An oily face is the over production of sebum. It is a symptom of zinc deficiency and manganese deficiency. Taking zinc acetate of about 50 mg a day for about two weeks should noticeable reduce the over production of sebum. Manganese is also implicated, so taking similar amounts for only a week or so should should restore sebum to close to normal range. Preferred form is manganese sulfate, taken on an empty stomach. To help increase the body's absorption of manganese, it is important to take about 1000 mg of vitamin C in form of sodium ascorbate.

Large pores, interestingly relates to the body's ability to heal wounds. With a deficiency in B vitamins, especially those relating to cellular structures such as Vitamin B5 pantothenic acid (I prefer the panthenol kind) and Inositol should help with wound healing. Of course the dose if fairly large, such as about 250 mg/day for about a week or so.

Wound healing also relates to the body's sugar levels, antioxidant level, the body's pH, and the ability for the body to rid of eliminations.

The antioxidant level can easily be increased by simply avoiding certain foods. In particular, foods high in heavy metals, where the major source comes from frying on open pots and pans, such as french fries, hamburgers, for example. So switching from open frying foods to boiling foods non oils should reduce the heavy metals, thus increasing the body's antioxidant levels.

Raising your body's pH will increase micro circulation and therefore taking 1/4 teaspoon of baking soda in 1/2 glass of water twice a day, once before bedtime and once in morning on empty stomach is helpful. You need to avoid food after taking this for at least 1 hour. Otherwise, the salty food will react with bicarbonates to cause a diarrhea effect. By alkalizing the body's elimination will be increase through reductions of constipation, a source of toxin that can cause skin acne.

The body's sugar level can simply be reduce by just drinking more water, taking more lecithin reducing the liver and pancreatic burden due to oily foods and help the body reduce excess oils which tends to burden the body's immune processes.

Scarring may reduce by taking vitamin E and now and then take aspirin. Cleaning the face with antiseptic lotion is also helpful. But you need to eat horsetail, high in silicon so that the body's wound healing will proceed normally."

08/21/2008: Jay from Chicago, IL replies: "How long does it take on average for the body to rid itself of excess fats using Lecithin? How long can an individual use Lecithin as a supplement?"
