<description> P.b. from Cape Breton, Ns writes: "I've struggled with adult acne for years but finally got it under control by not using commercial soaps/moisturizers, only handmade soap and a moisturizing mix of grapeseed oil, castor oil, jojoba oil, lavender &amp; tea tree &amp; lemongrass essential oils. However, sometimes even though I haven't changed any of my skin treatments, I've experienced breakouts.

Recently I connected the breakouts to starting a new vitamin supplement. I stopped the supplement and the breakouts stopped. A similar thing had happened about a year ago and I compared the ingredients of the two supplements (one was Vitamin C and the other was a multi). The only thing they seemed to have in common was silicon dioxide. I checked the supplements I take that don't seem to bother me (flax oil, magnesium, Vit D, and another brand of Vit C) and none of them have silicon dioxide in them. It's hard to be sure what exactly it is, but I just wanted people to consider that perhaps their supplements are causing breakouts!

<description>[YEA] Cindy from Torc, Nm writes: "I have been battling acne break outs for the last couple of years. I purchased ProActive and found that it only worked for a while and had to keep using it to keep clear skin. I broke out yesterday (1/25/12) and in desperation I grabbed the bag of Epsom Salt. I mixed 2 tsp of Epsom Salt to 3oz warm water and mixed it. I also took a few crystals on my index finger and applied them to the boils on my forehead. It is now (1/26/12) and the swelling and inflamation is almost gone. The area is no longer red, it is more pink and is almost gone!!!! I found this link in researching Epsom Salt and I thought I'd share my wonderful inexpensive remedy. Everyone is different, this worked for me!

<description>[YEA] Adriael from Atlanta, Ga writes: "Hi all, This may seem like a trendy post but I have had amazing results with Argan Oil. About 6 months ago my mild acne turned rather severe. I had about 80 little white bumps on my cheeks and about 5-6 on each side would flare up into small red pimples. My face was really starting to scar so I went to the dermatologist. She put me on Ziana cream and suggested oral antibiotics as well. As I did not want yeast infections I opted to try the topical Ziana cream (which is tretinoin and an antibiotic). I used this for several months with about a 10% improvement overall.

Finally I went on Amzon to buy some Argan Oil for my hair and noticed that a lot of reviews had said that it had helped with their Acne. I've been using it for about three weeks and I've had no new blemished and all my scars are healing. It's really been a miracle for me. This is my current routine morning and evening:

1: Use Clairsonic exfoliating brush to wash off makeup with a gentle cleanser (I just use a regular cleanser not an acne specific one).

2: Rub about 20 drops of Argan oil over my face and under my chin.

I wish I had before and after photos, but all my family and friends have remarked on the dramatic improvement.

Wash with Neutrogena Deep Clean 2 a day-it is simple but refreshes your face.

Before bed (I do this 3 times a week) use Mario-Badescu drying stuff (its the pink stuff that comes in a bottle)

I would appreciate any acne remedies that you may be able to find the ingredients in your house and not go buy it! Thanks!!

<description>[BETTER BUT WITH SIDE EFFECTS] Jessi from Murrieta, Ca writes: "I have been using DMSO for acne and it's the only thing that has seemed to help reduce the inflammation and really help with my severe acne. It does make my skin very dry and flaky, but if I use an oil free moisturizer it seems ok.

I have been using the DMSO morning and night and I just roll it over my face before my other skin care products. There is a slight/mild tingle and stinging for about 5 mins. I am also using on top of the DMSO the Jan Marnin Bioglycolic Bioclear Lotion which I think is working well together with the DMSO. I'm not able to use Benzyol Peroxide because I am allergic to it, so the DMSO has been an amazing cure for my acne. I truly can't live with out it. If you are suffering from acne I would definitely recommend trying the DMSO. I use the roll on 70% DMSO 30% aloe or the 70% DMSO 30% distilled water. It's $10.00 on Amazon .:)

<description>[YEA] Sarah from San Francisco, Ca writes: "I just have to share. My skin has broken out almost my entire life. I always have atleast one zit at any time. I'm 32 and it's exhausting. I see an acpuncturist which helps a lot. I understand that my skin is just a reflection of what's going on inside of my body. If I ate too much sugar, ate too much meat or a single slice of wheat my skin would break out. Grrr..... My acpuncturist said I had too much heat and it would come out through my skin. She would fix it and then I would just break out again the next week.

A month ago I started drinking a green drink every morning (broccoli or kale, cucumber, avocado, apples, orange juice and green superfood powder) I use Vitamineral Green... And no I don't work for them but I hope they allow the name in here because this has been amazing. Seriously it's been amazing. A few weeks into it my skin looked great, a month later my skin was completely clear and stayed that way. And now no matter what I eat, my skin stays clear. So freaking crazy! I can eat sugar, wheat, drink alcohol, etc. And my skin stays clear! (Although I don't encourage anybody to be that abusive to their body) It's pretty much been a miracle in my life!

I've always had tons of blackheads on my nose and a pink dicoloration around my nose and mouth. I had to become brillliant with makeup to cover it up. Now it takes me a few minutes to "do my face" because I don't have anything to cover up. It's crazy.

Has anybody else has this type of response?

<description>[YEA] Cb from S, Sc writes: "I have started using Coconut oil for acne and I have always had OILY skin.... I was very reluctant to try it but had several (non-acne) spots I wanted to see what the coconut oil would do for my skin after looking up effects of coconut oil. I slowly expanded the areas I treated with coconut oil and eventually (after about a week) I was using it on my entire face after I washed it. I now use it every morning and night after I wash my face and I have NOT had any acne since I started using it. I did have several areas that seemed to be like clogged pores around my nose but they never got real red like before I used coconut oil taking at least 7-10 days to get rid of instead I was able to squeeze the stuff out of the pores very easily (not to mention I was quite surprised). I'm sure not everyone will have the same experience but I'm quite pleased and will continue to use it on my skin as long as I can get it.

<description>[YEA] Barb from Suwanee, Ga Usa writes: "I suffered for many months at a time from perioral acne (red, bumpy, itchy, oily, flakey rash with pustules) around my nose and chin, and tried all the classic home remedies from AC vinegar to calamine lotion, to eating foods that fight infections, etc. Rubbing alcohol made it redder and it didn't cure it.

The cure? Change to Tom's Toothpaste with no fluoride. Regular toothpastes (common brands like Crest, Colgate, and all others) have fluoride and some other ingredients possibly. In one day the red bumps were calmer and not "active" and in about 2 days they were gone. My face was clear!! Such a simple solution, and I had struggled for about 5 months! As soon as I started fluoride toothpaste again after a week or so of Tom's, it usually broke out again. It isn't the toothpaste dripping on the skin, it is that the toothpaste has irritants which are absorbed through the membranes of the mouth lining, so it becomes an allergy to some people. Even mouthwashes &amp; some sugarfree gums or mints which may be strong can cause flare-ups of perioral acne. My dermatologist had given me an antibiotic for this which did work, but then you're on antibiotics which make skin sensitive to sun. After weeks on Tom's you can usually go back to your regular toothpaste, but you'll know what to do if you feel the first itchy, red little bump...

I have been looking for a cure for some time and I have high hopes for ACV I have only been using it for 3 days now both drinking it once a day and rubbing it on at night before bed (topically) I really hope this helps. (Although no improvement yet) I can't even wear tank tops because of my acne, I don't know if anyone else has this type of acne but it is mostly apparent when the sun shines on my skin and then there are hundreds of little bumps, but they never really come to a head, so I'm not sure what kind of acne it is but is awful. Yes I have been to a dermatologist and after $400.00 and no answers or help other than red rashy dry cracking skin, here I am. So I'm really hoping for some kind of improvement. I will let you know. I keep thinking Accutane may help but I am 29 years old and have 3 small children so the side effects may be too much for me.

July of this year I went to my doctor and got a script for doxysysline and metro gel for rosacea I used it for two weeks and had no results so I quit using it.

I came across this site when my dog had a uti and read about ACV and tea tree oil. So I gave it a try I used tea tree oil for 3 or 4 days, it burned but I just fanned my face for about 10 minutes. I did this twice a day morning and night then my skin started to peel, it was thick and scaly so then I started using organic ACV and water 50/50 and I have now been doing this for about the last 4/5 days and my face is 80 to 90% better I don't have to wear make-up to cover it up although my skin still feels a bit tight and dry I will continue with the ACV. I also take ACV in a glass with juice, about one tablespoon a day. Thanks for all of everyones imput as it has helped me.

<description>[YEA] Tammy from Fort Knox, Ky writes: "I've had terrible acne for 40 years. Everyone said it would go away after I got out of my teen years, but it never did. My face is just a mess of scars at this point, but I've learned to live with that. I've tried everything imaginable, from so many doctors, in so many states. I can't even begin to list all the things I did to treat my face.

Anyway, I want to say two things. I have developed halitosis from 25 years of being on antibiotics. It has destroyed my personal life. Antibiotics kill off your good bacteria, and I am suffering from an overabundance of resistent bad bacteria, that I can't see seem to recolonize. What makes matters worse is all those pills didn't even make my acne go away, but I took it anyway since I had to do something. Please don't make the same mistake...

After almost 40 years, I discovered something that finally works. It is Essential Fatty Acids Oil. Taken daily, at one tablespoon for every 50 pounds of body weight, mixed in juice is what is needed. It's expensive, at $38 a bottle, and has to be refrigerated. (Buy it early in the summer so it doesn't get exposed to high temps while shipping). It took about a month for the results to show up, and I went off once for a few months, and began looking older and breaking out again. This time, I'm on it to stay. Won't need another round of accutane again, like my doctor was suggesting.

<description>[BETTER BUT NOT CURED] Karen from Johannesburg, South Africa writes: "I've suffered from chronic hormonal acne for more than 20 years. I stayed on birth control pills during most of the time because it was the only thing that kept me consistently clear (any combined pill seemed to work for me). After leaving my job and losing my health insurance I found that the drugs were too expensive and started looking for a natural remedy.

After more than a year of giving everything I could think of a try, I finally started to see results with peppermint tea. Took about 2 weeks to start noticing improvement. It's not a 100% cure but it's something of a small miracle after being so completely unresponsive to everything else. 1 - 2 unsweetened strong cups a day seems to do the job. And I quite enjoy the taste.

After doing some research I think this only works for androgen-type hormonal imbalance ie. Too many male-type hormones. I believe the effects are similar for men. Spearmint, which I can't seem to find, apparently works as well.

<description>[YEA] Natcat86 from Gaithersburg, Maryland, Usa writes: "I had really bad acne all over my face and neck with the random appearance on my chest, back, or shoulders constantly for 14 years (starting at puberty), and as time went on it only got worse (so it wasn't caused by changes in hormones as I was led to believe). I stumbled upon some information on Diatomaceous Earth (DE) and became intrigued because of its many proported benefits (I recommend looking it up). It is relatively unknown, and only sold for pest control and consumption by animals, (but you can buy food grade DE online) but since it is used to mechanically kill bugs in grain silos and just about every person who has ever eaten grain which was stored in a silo has eaten DE, I figured it would be safe and I would try it. DE is the fossilized shells of a type of algae called Diatoms. Their shells are extremely hard and very sharp (but yet not dangerous to your cells) and they mechanically scrub the walls of your intestines, scraping away any build-up. Some DE passes through the intestinal walls and into the bloodstream and while it is there it scrapes plaque buildup away from the walls of veins and arteries. It basicly acts like a plumber in your body.

I found that most cases of acne are caused by toxins entering the blood stream through the digestive system (some degree of leaky gut), not by a problem with the skin itself. It is your body attempting to expel the toxins from your blood. When you expel the toxins which originate in your digestive tract through the digestive system, they don't have the opportunity to make it into your blood stream and thus cause acne by pushing through your skin. So... I began adding 1tsp DE to water every day for a week, then increased it to 1tbsp gradually after that and drank it daily for 2 months. I noticed a difference my skin within a day. By the time 2 months was up I no longer had acne. I had to stop consuming it for a little while after that because I slightly threw my body off balance (my skin became a little dry). After a month off, I started consuming it again in moderation and have been ever since. I have been able to consistently keep the acne away as long as I continue to consume it at least a couple of times a week. I highly reccomend it because it is very effective and it gets to the root of the problem instead of just treating the symptoms. I now have had only a few pimples (instead of many hundreds) within the last 9 months, and I know that in time I will get them to go away completely.

Until I broke out again. I'm not sure what to do now, but I've read a lot on here that apple cider vinegar (ACV) works like a charm. Any recommendations on how to use it? Is it better topically applied or ingested?

<description>[YEA] Maxine from Polokwane, Limpopo, South Africa writes: "Thank you so much for giving me the oppurtunity to learn more about Epsom salts and its uses. My grandmother told me to put a pinch of Epsom salts in my tea every morning- that was about two monthes ago. As a young adult I struggle with acne terribly, and I hoped the Epsom salts would help. I now religiously drink every two cups of tea in the morning with epsom salts. My body has been detoxing since- Its interesting to know that when I do struggle with pimples, I find that they go away in a few days, not like previously, when they would last for months!

<description> Reni from Hammond, Indiana writes: "Hi... I read with interest your comments about acne. You would not think that an oil would benefit acne and acne scarring, but Argan Oil really works. It's 100% natural. It also helps with stretch marks.

<description> Jqueen from Atlanta, Ga, 30309 writes: "I normally don't do this but I thought I might share. I used to break out a lot, I'm talking about over 20 pimples of all sizes at a time on my face until I started using Alpha Hydrox. Their foaming cleanser is so gentle, and I would recommend it for anyone of all ages. It's not really meant for treating Acne or breakouts, but so many people who have used it have bought it for that purpose alone including I. What has worked out for me might not work for you... But I figured I would share this information.

A tip: Unless you get a serious alergic reaction from this product for whatever reason (who knows, it can happen with anything) the first couple of weeks of using it you might experience a few breakouts. Don't sweat it, it's normal. Give some time for your skin to adjust to the changes. Be patient.
They also have a great line of moisturizers. Try them out but don't over do it. Try to keep it light. No matter if your skin is extremely oily, you NEED to moisturize. I found the reason why my skin was always so oily, aside from the heat, was because it lacked moisture. So the less moisture I had on my face, the more oil I had.

Anyway hope this helps!
