Dannae from Oklahoma City, Oklahoma writes: "I am 75 years old, have had acne since I was 13, and while in the years of raising my children, not many problems with acne, till in my early 60's. Now there are these bumps under the skin, they sometimes get inflammed, but require a needle to get them, and their little roots out. so it leaves scars. I tried the ACV, teaspoon in cup of water, but the best way I like it, is from Dill Pickle juice, and it also works for coughs, and colds. I am not consistant with it, but going to try it now diluted to 1/2 teaspoon to cup of water, for sinus by spraying it into them.

Try smelling some of the stuff that comes from pimples, think you will be surprised!

[YEA] Sweetpea from Henderson, Nv, U.S. writes: "Sodium Bicarbonate (Baking Soda) for Acne

My son is 12 years old and has bad acne for about 1 1/2 years. I tried many of the over the counter products: cleansers, facial scrubs, toners, astringents, and moisturizers, but nothing worked. While doing some house cleaning using sodium bicarbonate (baking soda) and water it occured to me to try that for a face wash for him. I made a paste and have him use it every morning and every night ~ he uses it like any other facial cleanser and it has been fantastic! The pimples have shrunk in size and many are gone. His pores are much smaller. It doesn't burn, sting, or dry out his face. And best of all, it is really inexpensive.

[YEA] Penelope from Boston, Ma writes: "The most incredible supplements I have ever tried for acne are L-Glutathione (500 milligrams up to 3 times a day) and vitamin B6 (ONLY get the P5P form. The other form can cause neuropathy). Split a 50 milligram pill of vitamin B6 (P5P) up and take a few times a day. I would ask your doctor about going up to as high as 100 milligrams of P5P if you really need that much to keep your skin clear. My skin is completely clear as long as I take the B6 or the L-Glutathione. I do not need to take both of these supplements together to have clear skin, - both have worked separately equally as well to clear my skin in record time (about a week to see results) but test it out and see what works for you - both have amazing health benefits. I have noticed that L-Glutathione has the added benefit of also making my hair really shiny and healthy looking.

Both vitamin B6 and L-Glutathione are potent detoxifiers of the liver so go up to the dose you need VERY slowly! If you break out initially, bear with it - this is just a detox/cleansing reaction.

Try opening a capsule of vitamin B6 (P5P) and take a third of it - or half of it - and see how you do Same goes with the L-Glutathione pills or powder . You can take the same dosage up to 3 times a day. Definitely take the B6 with food because it can make you nauseous. Also, the B6 (P5P) could keep you up by giving you energy if you take it late at night.

Topically, Jojoba oil is great for acne. It moisturizes without clogging pores. I wear it all over my face and neck at night. It is the only moisturizer that does not break me out!

I have suffered with severe cystic acne and was on 3 courses of Accutane so I know what it's like to suffer with acne. With either of these supplements, thankfully I don't have to suffer anymore. I hope this info helps anyone out there who is struggling with acne."

Anne from Thunder Bay, Ontario writes: "Epsom Salt baths for acne treatment

Hello : ) I am 31 years old and have been dealing with moderate acne since puberty. I have tried everything from popular name brand acne cleansers, hydrogen peroxide, tea tree oil, prescription acne cream, not wearing make-up, cutting sweets out of my diet, cutting junk food out of my diet, steam bathing the face, exfoliating facial cleansers, overnight acne treatment creams and birth control. Among all of those treatments, only staying on birth control seemed to make any real difference, however, it did not make the acne disappear entirely during menstruation.

I am now 20 weeks pregnant and the hormones have been wrecking even more havoc with the skin on my face since pregnancy. I also developed a rash on my tummy. As a result of reading many different solutions on the internet, I decided to give an Epsom Salt bath a try. I have been taking these baths each night for the last 4 nights and have seen remarkable improvements, such as:

- The little white bumps (that have been on the back of my upper arms since puberty) have almost disappeared altogether
- The rash on my tummy has disappeared entirely
- The few hard "under-skin" bumps/cysts on my face (which have stubbornly been there for a couple of months) have virtually disappeared

From my readings on the internet, bacteria (that causes acne) cannot be live in a salty environment; therefore, washing with the salt water kills the bacteria.

I have simply poured 1 to 2 cups of Epsom Salts into a full bath tub of warm/hot water and stirred the salt around in order to dissolve them into the water. I bathed for 10 to 15 minutes and rinsed my face a few times. I highly recommend this treatment to anyone with acne problems.

[YEA] Pauline from Sebring, Florida writes: "to Azg from Toronto:

Hi Azg,

Combine 2 tablespoons of baking soda with a drizzle of water until you make a soft paste. Massage the baking soda paste around the face using small circular motions. Focus on the areas of the most scarring and red spots.

After around 30 seconds rinse your face well with warm water. Repete this process once per day to help diminish red spots from acne. Baking soda can help diminish red spots and skin discolorations quickly, especially when used as a facial scrub.

Avoid wearing makeup, do not pick or squeeze pimples. Change pillow cases and sheets every other day. The pillow case absorbs oils from your skin and reapplies the dirt and oil.

Eat foods rich in Zinc. Zinc is an antibacterial agent and a necessary element in the oil- producing glands of the skin. A diet low in Zinc can actually cause acne breakouts.

I have give this to many of my friends for acne. They all said, it helped them. I hope it helps you too. Let me know!

There are a lot of vitamins shops on and off line that you can get it from, but you need to learn how to take the dosages and for how long. I hope every acne victim at least take a look at this and consider. My only regret is not knowing about it 30 years ago!!!"

[YEA] Shalini from Petaling Jaya, Malaysia writes: "First of all, thanks very much to Earthclinic for all your help!

I've been struggling with acne for a long time, and after trying out some remedies from EC have found a combination that made a dramatic improvement in my skin. I was quite astonished at how fast it healed, compared to the turtle speed of most acne meds.

I've eliminated all soaps and medications, and am using only natural products. In the morning, I apply a baking soda mask for 5 minutes. It stings a lot, and be careful not to scrub, just leave it on. This disinfects your skin and gradually shrinks acne. At night, I apply a turmeric mask for an hour. Be careful with turmeric because it will stain - on my tanned skin it just blends in. To moisturise, I use coconut oil, less in the day and more at night.

I also take coconut oil internally, one tablespoon morning and night. I also take two tablespoons of granulated lecithin, and 3000mg of high quality fish oil. The fish oil showed me an overnight improvement, and even helped me sleep better.

Here's what didn't work: ACV is not my friend, unfortunately. Evening primrose oil did not work at all. Blackstrap molasses is incredibly helpful for my menstrual cycle, but again no difference in skin.

Hopefully this will help any acne sufferers out there, good luck!"

[YEA] Bluebirdofparadise from Billings, Mt writes: "Hi,

I just wanted to write tell about some things that seem to be curing my acne.

First of all, I used to get pimples on my butt and I found that it was from the lotion I used (or sometimes I'd use baby oil after a shower). Anything with mineral oil or petroleum jelly or or artificial stuff like that in it would give me pimples. It took me a little while to figure it out because I'm really into moisturizing my skin and it's something I'd been doing for a long time. When I switched to using virgin coconut oil or other virgin oils (olive, grapeseed, etc.) the problem disappeared.

However, I still got pimples on my face, back, and chest. It was really embarrassing to wear a swimsuit or a dress with a low back or anything, because they were all over (esp. my back). Well, a couple of months ago I decided to become a vegetarian (for reasons other than my acne). When I did this, I also became concerned about my nutrition and started taking a tablespoon or two of both unsulphured blackstrap molasses and brewer's yeast every day, in addition to eating a diet almost entirely of whole grains, legumes, nuts, fruits, vegetables, and cold-pressed (virgin) oils. I couldn't believe what was happening to me, but after a week or two the zits on my chest totally went away. Next they started disappearing on my back and now they are totally gone there, too (except for some little red scars where they used to be, but they are disappearing too). Now my face is clearing up as well - and I didn't even get any new ones when I got my period. I'm putting shea butter and lotions I make myself out of olive oil or almond oil and beeswax on my face. The shea butter really seems to help the scars disappear quickly. I tried using Pond's a couple of days ago but when I did I had a big zit under my eye by the evening.

I'm convinced that my acne was caused mostly by my diet. I realized this even more after I went to the fair a couple of weeks ago and ate a bunch of deep-fried food (still vegetarian but very high fat content!). The next couple of days my acne flared up again badly. A huge pimple on my cheek, one on my chin, lots of tiny ones on my forehead, and several on my back. It didn't matter what I was (or wasn't) putting on my skin. They just came, and benzol peroxide seemed to make the one on my cheek worse. Now that I've been back to "normal" (high-fiber, low fat vegetarian) about a week all the pimples are almost gone again (and no new ones have appeared).

I know a vegetarian diet sounds extreme but it is totally worth it to me. I feel so much better and healthier and more beautiful. I can look at myself in the mirror now and see smooth skin all the way up and down my body, front and back. I think I was just taking in more toxins to my body than it could handle. This wasn't easy for me to see as I am petite and thin for my size - so I wouldn't have guessed that too much fat/toxins in my diet were causing the problem. Now I am certain this is the case! Plus I feel better and more energetic and happier than I have in years. So in a nutshell - eating vegetarian/whole unprocessed foods, making sure my diet is nutritionally sound (blackstrap molasses and brewers yeast) and not putting chemicals or mineral oils on my skin is turning out to be a wonderful acne cure I wasn't expecting. If you can do it, I'm sure it will make you better too."

[YEA] Lisa from Anaheim, CA writes: "I just want to give a big, two thumbs up for the Hydrogen Peroxide skin remedy. My skin is generally clear save the occasional breakout, but I experienced bad skin breakouts for a few months due to stress. It was probably the worst ever, and none of my usual practices were working. I gave Hydrogen Peroxide a try and immediately (within a few days) saw dramatic results. Now the breakouts were pretty bad so it did take me some time to truly clear my skin.

I just want to say to anyone with skin problems, have faith and go the distance, as we all know it often takes time and patience. I also want to second the person who said not to pick at or exfoliate or anything like that because if I hadn't tried to 'help things along' by exfoliating the dry skin, it would have been clear much quicker. I know that this is a general guideline with clearing the skin, but with the HP it seems to be very much required because of the way it works.

Once my skin got to a clearer stage, I decided to only use the HP once a day in the evening, because it was drying things out too much and I didn't need this so much when my skin was almost clear. It looked smoother underneath makeup by doing this. I hope this makes sense! In other words, the breakouts had dried out or subsided to a point where I could decrease the HP, and instead focus on more moisturizing methods. It took me awhile to realize that I was overdoing it, and needed to move into something different, so I hope this helps someone if they experience this as well. I also took zinc as someone else suggested and I can't say for certain but I believe this helped. Thanks again!"

I have a question regarding acne. My son is 18 years old and is suffering acne since the age of 14. This makes him terribly depressed, irritable, anxious and angry. We have tried to address this condition both internally and externally. We tried a series of home remedies such as apple cider vinegar, hydrogen peroxide, aloe vera, coconut oil, milk thistle, fluoride removal herbal teas, etc. In addition, he has taken a multitude of vitamins and supplements, kidney and liver cleanse, OTC creams and ointments, Proactive, prescription medication (Minoclycline, Erythromycin ), orally and topically. He has also had a painful laser treatment for 12 weeks. He drinks lots of water. I believe that his diet is a healthy and balanced one, the vast majority of our meals are home made and so is the the food that he takes to school, he only occasionally eats candy, soda and fast food (maybe once a month). All in all, his face is still covered with large areas of pustules. He now wants to try Accutane, but I am very concerned because of the possible side effects, and do not think that it is safe. He is very upset at me for not supporting his decision, this is very hard on our relationship. About a month ago, I started to wonder weather the acne is related to yeast, I started him on caprylic acid, olive leaf and probiotic, in addition, I followed Ted's suggestion of borax (1/4 tsp in one liter, every other day) in water. Then I read about some Australian origin oil capsules in a different forum and decided to add that also, so far none of this is working. I feel that perhaps his body is not able to absorb nutrients or to extract the benefits from these treatments. I have considered trying the so called vibration remedies but they are expensive and lengthy, I don't think that my son would follow through with the treatment (he will be going away to college soon). I am about to start him on colloidal silver (500 ppm, 1/4 tsp, 1x/day). Does anyone have any suggestions? Has anyone tried acupuncture, homeopathy or other types of treatments for acne? I would like to get a treatment plan based on the underlying cause, but doctors usually refuse to do any testing, etc. Does anybody know any good practitioners in Michigan? Please help us. Thank you so much, I really appreciate any ideas."

When washing your face use a good quality product and apply it using a light hand, don't press or push to hard. You do not want to stimulate more oils by pressing to hard. Use a very light touch in circular motions for 1 to 2 minutes. Yes, 1 or 2 minutes, you want to cleanse the skin and the pores. Always use a clean wash cloth with warm (not hot) water to rinse your face. It is important to use a wash cloth to pick up the oils from the face as well as exfoliating . (this is one thing I find that most of my acne clients don't do), but when you think of it we use some kind of cloth to wash our dishes, our cars, or the counter top. Washing in the morning and evening should be enough. So make sure you have plenty of clean wash cloths on hand."

[YEA] Jerry from Belen, NM writes: "I have a medication induced acne on sensitive skin. After suffering for many, many, years I ran across "urine therapy" and tried it out of desperation. After researching the use of 'urine' I decided to try it instead of more medicated shampoos, salves, and antibiotics. It did what my many doctors and Rx's over the years couldn't do in just under two months! For the last two years I gloated to the doctor and skin specialists shaming them for prescribing antibiotics for more than twenty years when antibiotics are only good for ten days. Then one doctor examined me and asked if I wanted him to prescribe some urea for me! No thanks doc I have my own pharmacy and laughed my way out of his office. Okay, I was bad!

Then a couple of weeks ago I treated myself to a pedicure and enjoyed the experience so much that I subjected myself to a facial not realizing that I was fixing to destroy all the good efforts I had achieved. The scrub felt good; the message felt better; the mechanical scrubber and steamer did its job as I relaxed in the chair. Then the facial mask was applied and finally a scented oil rubbed in. The next day pimples were erupting all over again! Back to the urine therapy which is slowly undoing the damage done by that great facial! Okay, I should have known better, but since I solved the problem, and two years had passed, I thought it might make my skin cleaner.

Back to the urine therapy and no more facials. As I looked in the mirror and felt my beard I could feel what the facial had done. Immediately I recalled lessons learned in curing my skin just two years ago:

First, you must have a balanced diet and exclude ARTIFICIAL SWEETENERS from your diet.

Second, you must not use SOAP, any kind of soap on the face. Why, because sensitive skin only requires the solvent WATER to clean. Straight from the faucet use water that is neither real cold or warm. Soap changes your skins pH balance!

Third, the warmer the water the more your pores open up--the colder the more they tighten up. Once we get our natural skin pH back with urine therapy eruptions will cease to become a problem then apply cooler water, but NEVER SCRUB OR WASH in circles for this opens and spreads subterranean vessels where infections are being fought off.

Fourth, do not use oils or alcohol on your skin. The skin is the largest organ of your body. It continues to regenerate itself ever so many days. If you do take baths make sure you use Nature's solvent, clean good pH water to bath with. The more alkaline or acidic soaps you apply to the skin the more difficult it is for the skin to adjust its pH balance. Sensitive skins cannot adjust to these sudden changes. By the way, a soak in a clean bath tub full of good water is equivalent to drinking eight glasses of water a day, but ask any nutritionist and they cannot tell you where that guideline comes from for it has not been established.

Fifth, all of your body organs are pH Alkaline in nature. It only stands to reason that the more acidic your water the harder it is for your body to repair itself. Your blood is 7.4 alkaline and doctors say that if that blood changes just 4 tenths of one percent you will die in either direction! A good dose of pineapple is pH 10 and so is watermelon. This is where drinking water should range. Investigate your water pH content along with looking at your diet. Researchers have known for years that ANY TYPE OF VIRUSES WILL NOT GROW IN AN ALKALINE SOLUTION! Cancers, viruses, and other diet related problems usually boil down to bad water supply! Check it out please.

Don't you just wish there was a mask you could put on and take off without disturbing your face? Hahahahahaha"

[YEA] Seven from Neosho, Missouri, USA writes: "I have adult acne (I'm 34f) due to hormonal imbalance and problems with my digestion. They tend to bother me a great deal causing me to pick at them and otherwise make them worse. I tried a lot of different expensive commercial products without success. The ingredients usually burned and inflamed my skin and didn't do anything for the acne.

Finally I came across an "acne cure" that people were paying up to sixty-dollars per ounce on the Internet. I found out that it was simply Chamomile lotion and witch hazel and I already had that in my medicine cabinet. I tried it out and it works great.

I wash my face good in the evening, use witch hazel as a toner then apply the Chamomile lotion. (I am going to see if ACV works better then Witch Hazel after reading about it here on this site.) The Chamomile dries up the acne usually overnight and has always made it better including really deep hard nodule type of acne.

Chamomile lotion doesn't prevent or otherwise cure acne but it does dry up outbreaks extremely rapidly, keeps the acne from itching and being irritated and doesn't burn, sting or otherwise have side effects that I have experienced. I wish I had known about this as a teen."

[YEA] Elizabeth from Nashville, TN writes: "I am a 29 year old that has been suffering off and on with adult acne since the age of 19. I've tried everything....zit creams, proactive, toners, scrubs..you name it. I took Accutane when I was 23 ( a six month dose) and it did clear it up for a couple of years. Although, if I had to do it again I probably wouldn't have taken Accutane b/c of all the possible side effects, but I digress. Anyways, I have been getting pimples that have been taking FOREVER to get rid of, so of course it leaves a red dot where the pimple was. This is what I have been doing for the past week and my pimples are virtually gone and the red spots are fading fast.

1) I wash my face morning and night with Castille soap...I also use baking soda as a scrub a couple times a week.

2) After I wash my face I apply hydrogen peroxide with a cottonball and let it air dry (I do this at night only)

3) I dampen my face and apply a 70/30 ratio of jojoba oil and tea tree oil. The tea tree oil is strong so I cut it with the jojoba oil.

4) Then I get a q-tip and drop some tea tree oil on it and apply directly to current blemishes and red spots.

5) After my skin soaks this up I then apply a pump of face lotion for sensitive skin...to moisturize.

6) If you are a woman and use liquid foundation....STOP...that stuff has so many chemicals in it...I always break out when I used it...now I use a mineral foundation that is made of natural ingredients and my skin can breathe!

That's it!!! I've only been doing this for a week and my skin feels and looks so much more clear and smooth, not to mention a more even-toned complexion. I've tried ACV for my skin and it did help at first but I started breaking out again. Plus, the tea tree oil makes your skin tingle...in a GOOD way! Now I need to work on my dark eye circles! They are BAD :(

Well, I hope this helps others with acne and the scars that go with it..."

BAKING SODA

[BETTER BUT WITH SIDE EFFECTS] Sid Davis from Springfield, Missouri USA writes: "I read that some people use baking soda on the face for acne, and since I have had a life long problem with minor acne, I thought I would try it. I wash my face twice a day, once in the morning when I shower, and once before bed, so I bought a large box of baking soda and poured it into a plastic kitchen storage container so I could easily scoop out a hand full to use instead of face soap. I wet my face and hands first and then used the gob of baking soda like I would a face scrub.

It quite definitely cut back on outbreaks, and what few did develop were very mild. I am guessing that the sodium in the baking soda is killing bacteria on my face (like when you pour salt on a garden slug).

The only problem I have is that where I have had a pimple develop it seems that it takes an extra long time to heal, and that it leaves what looks like a little reddish burn scar which is something that never happened when I did not use the baking soda. I think the whatever is killing the bacteria may also be damaging the new tissue that grows to heal where the pimple was.

Has anybody using baking soda on their face for acne experienced this problem?"
