[BETTER BUT WITH SIDE EFFECTS] 12/22/2009: Juno from West Hollywood, California writes: "This is a desperate question to Ted.,
I have been reading and loving this website for a while now. and have been using many of the remedies suggested here like ACV Molasses and OP. I have also been using Lecithin granules as per Ted's suggestion for acne. And doing urine therapy. (for at least 4 month now)
However, while my acne and melasma have somewhat improved and my energy - greatly improved, I have developed a strange side effect to which I can not find the reason or a cure.
The skin on my neck looks like lizard skin and it feels terrible, do dry as if it's about to crack. Also the skin under my eyes has worsened and I have a lot more wrinkles.
This question is for Ted, please help me find out what could be causing this, I feel so old because of this "new" look and it seems to be getting worse fast!"
Replies12/22/2009: Joyce from Joelton, Tn replies: "Hi there,
The way you describe your neck sounds like you need help in a hurry.
My suggestion is to use Extra Virgin olive oil, coconut oil or if either of these sound unpleasant, add about l ounce of of cold pressed castor oil to your favorite lotion and use that on your neck. (Anyone who loves the smell
of castor oil as much as I do can easily identify what is probably the most effective ingredient in Avon's expensive neck oil - I have never found any product containing castor oil to completely succeed in covering up its odor, even when advertised as odorless castor oil."
12/23/2009: Tamara from Fort Collins, Co replies: "Juno, I remember Ted posting something recently (11/01/2009) about oil pulling that Lecithin pulls oil from the body. Maybe what you're experiencing is you're losing too much oil? For me, if I don't have enough good fats (omega-3s and coconut oil) in my system my skin loses its suppleness and starts to dry out and, especially my lips, start to crack. I even start to get pimples because my skin tries to compensate for the drying out by producing more oil. I agree with Joyce that you should start applying some soothing oils to your skin but maybe start supplementing with them as well? I read a book describing the benefits of coconut oil and remember it saying that it helps the skin cells keep water in them (instead of the water getting immediately flushed into the blood stream) and helps them to keep hydrated and plump. I eat a small amount of EVCO several times a day and my skin glows without blemishes. Hope it gets better!"
12/24/2009: Juno from West Hollywood, California replies: "Tamara and Joyce, thank you so much for your response and suggestions.I will try avoiding Lecithin granules for a while and adding VCO to my diet. I do take 2 pills of Omega 3 and one of Flax seed oil every day. And I do use oils on my skin (Avocado, Peanut and Olive oil depending) but none of this seems to have any effect on this horrible feeling (like my skin is cracking) and look.
Another thing I've been doing for a long time now is drinking a pot of green tea every day. I tried to research and see if green tea might have this effect, but couldn't find anything that would suggest that.
I will keep you posted on any changes.
Thank you."
12/25/2009: Gaynor from Manaton, Uk replies: "I have had problems with increased dryness, increased wrinkles and rough skin on face and neck after treatment using ACV, HP and Borax plus teatree/lavender oil for breakouts of rosacea which I previously had under control for a while but now it's back- I am injesting coconut oil through cooking- I am also using aloe vera to moisturise skin and yoghurt face masks- this helps reduce roughness/dryness. I have been doing Mini beet protocol for two months to try to help skin issues- some improvement but I need to do this longer term I think. I do have a lot of energy from MBP.Best of luck.
Skin issues take a while"

As an afro-caribean, can someone give me some advice on what else I should be doing? ACV after 1month drinking & topically applying did not work, Coconut oil skin got worse after 2 months (but great nails ), Hperoxide NO help just orange coloured hairline. I must admit my diet is good no dairies or processed. But still riddled with awful skin. HELP!!!"
Replies09/05/2009: Qwert from Awesome, Ma, USA replies: "Try teaspoon of turmeric powder with pinch of organic black pepper in 1/4 cup warm water 3 times a day for two weeks."
09/06/2009: Pauline from Sebring, Florida replies: "To Obi: Here are two remedies for Acne & Blemishes: (1)cut a garlic clove in half and gently rub it on the affected area before bed. (2) Soak a cotton ball in Hydrogen Peroxide and rub over your face with it before going to bed.Hope this helps!

[NAY] 06/20/2009: M from Rochester Hills, MI writes: "Teenager suffering from acne - nothing seems to work:
I have a question regarding acne. My son is 18 years old and is suffering acne since the age of 14. This makes him terribly depressed, irritable, anxious and angry. We have tried to address this condition both internally and externally. We tried a series of home remedies such as apple cider vinegar, hydrogen peroxide, aloe vera, coconut oil, milk thistle, fluoride removal herbal teas, etc. In addition, he has taken a multitude of vitamins and supplements, kidney and liver cleanse, OTC creams and ointments, Proactive, prescription medication (Minoclycline, Erythromycin ), orally and topically. He has also had a painful laser treatment for 12 weeks. He drinks lots of water. I believe that his diet is a healthy and balanced one, the vast majority of our meals are home made and so is the the food that he takes to school, he only occasionally eats candy, soda and fast food (maybe once a month). All in all, his face is still covered with large areas of pustules. He now wants to try Accutane, but I am very concerned because of the possible side effects, and do not think that it is safe. He is very upset at me for not supporting his decision, this is very hard on our relationship. About a month ago, I started to wonder weather the acne is related to yeast, I started him on caprylic acid, olive leaf and probiotic, in addition, I followed Ted's suggestion of borax (1/4 tsp in one liter, every other day) in water. Then I read about some Australian origin oil capsules in a different forum and decided to add that also, so far none of this is working. I feel that perhaps his body is not able to absorb nutrients or to extract the benefits from these treatments. I have considered trying the so called vibration remedies but they are expensive and lengthy, I don't think that my son would follow through with the treatment (he will be going away to college soon). I am about to start him on colloidal silver (500 ppm, 1/4 tsp, 1x/day). Does anyone have any suggestions? Has anyone tried acupuncture, homeopathy or other types of treatments for acne? I would like to get a treatment plan based on the underlying cause, but doctors usually refuse to do any testing, etc. Does anybody know any good practitioners in Michigan? Please help us. Thank you so much, I really appreciate any ideas."
06/20/2009: Ingrid from Geneva, Ohio replies: "I'm in my 40's and have had acne all my life. I've found recently that pop (soda) does it and occassionally candy. With your son it may be hormones too."
06/20/2009: Kelly from Nashville, TN replies: "Wow,you have tried just about everything. I have been a licensed esthetician for 14yrs and I have never quite heard of a case like this. Just some suggestions. Do you have a Naturopath or Chinese Medicine doctor in your area? Accupunture combined with chinese herbs may help as the system is out of balance. Zinc and water soluable vitamin A (you generally have to ask the pharmacist for this) help with acne. Also, a good vitamin C and E to aid in the healing of the skin. A good natural cleanser would be 1/2 cup of local honey, 1/4 cup of food grade glycerine, 1/8 cup or less of pure castile soap with about 25 drops of a 100% pure, certified grade tea tree essential oil. This would be a very good antibacterial cleanser. There are some other essential oils that help with acne but I think the Naturopath or Chinese Medicine Doctor would be the place to start.
Also, at the other end of the spectrum have you tried benzoyl peroxide? I would recommend a 10% It has an antibacterial action. And a 2% Salicylic Acid wash or lotion. It's important not to use to many drying products as drying/striping the skin of oil will cause it to over produce oil. A very light coating of raw shea butter or jojoba (mimics human sebum) will help. If you would like to email me, I could give you a name of a very good brand of BPO and Sal Acid."
06/21/2009: Angie from Missouri replies: "I have suffered from acne to most of my life, so I know what he is going through. it started when I was probably 12 or 13 and now I am 39 years old. I too have tried so many natural things, things from store, been to the dermatologist when I was younger. what I started doing last summer was making me green smoothies. my recipe is 1/2 or sometimes more of water, some ice cubes, then I add things like celery, cucumber, small amount of fruit like apples, blueberries or whatever you have on hand and always put lots of spinach, I never measured it, but probably approx 2 cups of spinach. after I started doing this, my acne started improving and almost all the whiteheads were gone, except for an occasional, I also had a breast lump that dissapeared. you can add other veggies or fruits, but to me I think one of the key ingrediants is the spinach. I have gotten away from drinking them for the past 2 months and I see my face is slowly starting to break out again, so I know I need to start drinking them again. this would be worth a try and I would give it a couple of weeks to work."
06/21/2009: Linda from York County, Maine replies: "Hello M from Rochester Hills ..... I didn't suffer from acne as a teen; it hit me once I turned 40-talk about being depressed-so may be a bit different from your son's troubles. I found that a homeopathic tablet made by ____ helped tremendously. I find it at ____ and have purchased online at ____....and, at some point, Ted from Bangkok referred to the effect of calcium (in encouraging acne) found in potatoes as being problematic, and sure enough, if I eat potato chips for a couple of days in a row, I tend to notice at least one cyst deveoping. I've heard nothing good about Acutane; I hope your son will reconsider. Acne is painful, I know-Best Wishes, Linda"
06/21/2009: Morus from Sunnyville, OH replies: "Maybe you should give cold showers a try. If you google "cold shower therapy" it should tell you alot of the benefits-including better skin, etc. I know one time, my family lost power for about a week, so we had no hot water. I had to take freezing cold showers all week, and i was really surprised at how good my skin looked. At first i thought maybe i was just drinking alot of water, but now i realize that it was the cold showers. it's definetly worth a try!"
06/22/2009: Wisse Owl from Windsor, Ontario replies: "n response to the young man's problem with acne - Watching a promotion for some tar based ointment I learned that some people carry an invisible living critter in their hair - when you comb your hair these drop onto your back causing what I term blind boils -they finally erupt and weep -an unpleasant sight - both my husband and I suffered from this and I took note of the product which had a tar base - I purchased some tar based product and followed the method of application- which was , to part the hair, apply the ointment , doing this over the complete head - leave for about 30 minutes - more is safe ,then wash the hair to remove the treatment - repeat this daily for 6-7 days - The cure was complete - repeated this with my skeptical husband and he too was cured - Naturally I mads sure the pillows and bedding was well washed and aired - one of my daughters had acne and it had the same appearance as our inflamed spots but she had a few on her face as well as on her back -this was before our experience and I wonder if there is any connection with acne and if it would be of help to anyone else I am submitting my experience .There has been literature showing that sugar cures surface infections that even antibiotics can't help - and I carry a hard candy with me in case of fire ant bites - I dissolve the candy in water or saliva and rub across these bites and find immediate relief from the firey sting .We spread honey over a multitude of bites and same result - perhaps using this might even help the acne . To the mother who is trying so hard to help her son - don't despair - my daughter's face has very few marks . It has been many years and her back is almost without blemish - but it is so hard for the victim of this scourge , all we can do is love them even more . ."
06/22/2009: Betty from Philadelphia, PA replies: "This may sound off-the-wall, but iodine can cause acne in some sensitive people, so if your son eats alot of high-iodine foods like shrimp and other seafoods, or sea veggies (or sushi), or uses alot of iodized salt, etc., he might want to cut way back and see what happens."
06/22/2009: Bob from Memphis, TN replies: "I don't know if the site will allow this post but, let's give it a go. One of the questions in the post was if anyone had any information on accutane. I posted a response to your question but it was not posted. I suppose the site construed it as I was trying to promote the drug (which I was not). I am as down on the drug and medical industry as anyone on this site, maybe more. I have posted in the past giving my suggestion on how to bleach your teach with h202 as well as my latest on the h202 and acv therapies I have been doing and the results. Anyway, I feel for this kid and would like to give this lady my experience with the drug accutane. If this post is allowed, I allowed my email address to be seen. You can email me directly and I will be glad to tell you about my experience. No, I am not some company trying to promote drugs."
06/24/2009: Venise from Kingston, Jamaica replies: "To M from Rochester whose son suffers from Acne. When I was a teenager I had very very bad acne, just like you described your son's. Anyway, I used CORNMEAL. I got a jug of hot water, washed my face before with soap and faucet water then soaped my hands then add some cornmeal and massage my face. I leave it on and steam my face with the hot water covering my head with a towel while holding it over the jug of hot water (he will have to come up for air sometime) I then wash the face with warm water. This opens the pores. I then squeese some of the bumps but try not to tear the skin. After that I wash my face with faucet water and soap. I then applied small amounts of baking soda to this face (this will burn a little bit.) Sometimes at nights or when I was home for a weekend I mix the CORNMEAL with ALOE VERA and leave it on my face overnight or for a day. THIS WORKED WELL FOR ME. Be minded though that his acne may be caused by anxiety. He should also do some exercise."

[YEA] 05/26/2008: Stephanie from Salt Lake City, Utah writes: "I am amazed people! I had old depressed acne scars on my face and was very discolored. Four days after doing the first of five Fraxel laser resurfacing treatments, I broke out in new acne and sandpaper type bumps under the surface of my skin. I stopped using the creams the Doctor gave me and went to this routine:
I wash my face in plain baking soda, then I put raw organic honey, cinnamon, sea salt, a splash of lemon juice and a splash of ACV in the palm of my hand-mix it together and spread it on my face.I leave it on ten or so minutes while I drink a Tbls. or so of ACV in water, rinse my mouth in baking soda and brush my teeth. Then I rinse my face off in tepid water and dry.
I have a spritz bottle that I filled half with lemon juice and half with ACV and a little distilled water so it wouldn't sting and I spray my face with that.
Then I have another bottle filled with Lavender, tea tree, grapeseed and helychrisum oils that I spray on and let air dry.
I cannot tell you people what a miracle this is! My face is looking beautiful! It cleared up the acne and surface bumps in less than two days. I wake up to tight, smooth soft skin. My tone and texture are amazing. I never wear makeup anymore. I swear by this stuff!!! I love also what the fraxel is doing for my scars and color. I have only had one treatment so far and the results will take longer to be complete, but I will never use anything on my face again that you can't eat. I go in for my next laser treatment this week, and the first thing I will put on my red swollen face when I get home is honey. Honey, ACV and Lemon juice are fantastic! My teenage daughter is doing this same routine and has gone from a pimply to perfect complexion in under a week. We love it!"

[YEA] 04/25/2008: Molly from Berlin, Germany writes: "Hi everyone! first I wanted to say that I love this site and have found it very helpful for minor skin ailments. I am 24 and have always had fairly decent skin, al ittle on the dry side, easily scars, and prone to pimples and have tended to over due it in the product department. In the past couple of months I have developed mild acne probably due to hormonal changes..so i checked with this website and have put together my own skin regime I have found very successful and would love to share with all of you! First I use an all natural but basic bar of soap with as few additives as possible (I happen to use a brand handmade in california called Beesworks as I have found the products to be really gentle and effective, plus they smell great and are all natural and organic! but on that note im sure any natural organic soap would work) About every other day I mix in about one table spoon of baking soda into the soap lather and gentle massage into my face, especially focusing on the problematic areas. The key word here is GENTLY as i have found the if I over scrub or use the baking soda on my skin too often it can be harsh and drying, otherwise it works great in healing my acne. Then i rinse with cold water and after patting my skin dry I splash apple cider vinegar on my skin as a toner, then finish with pure vitamin E as a moisturizer and to heal my acne scars. the ACV is not the nicest smelling toner and the Vitamin E can be a little sticky so I usually save this regime for nighttime before bed and in the morning just stick to the bar of soap and a natural moisturizer. An alternative to the ACV is just plain lemon juice and i have found this more pleasant smelling, but not as effective as the ACV. A couple of times a week I do a homemade mask of yogurt and honey. This makes my skin so soft and dewey and also helps with the acne. The best part about this regime besides how effective it is, is its cost! It happens to be really affordable so stop buying those fancy expensive skin care products ESPECIALLY if they have ANY chemicals in it and experiment with natural ingredient instead until you find a regime that works for your particular skin type."

[YEA] 04/20/2008: Simone from Portland, OR writes: "I've had fairly bad acne for about 20 years. Nothing worked - not even accutane. Finally, a friend trained in Eastern medicine made some recommendations that have worked wonders. The cure for my acne has been the following regimen:
Wash face with water. Don't use soap b/c it changes the pH balance, making it easier for bacteria to thrive & cause acne.
Sanitize face with grain alcohol. I think you can use other sanitizers, as long as they are acidic & not basic.
Apply coconut oil to face morning & night.
Ingest either a tablespoon of coconut oil (tastes great in hot chocolate!) or flax seed oil each day.
Ingest a tablespoon of liquid multivitamins each day.
Eat one apple every day.
Acupuncture
The root cause of my acne was digestive & immune system problems, not the skin per se. Where you break out on your face is a clue as to where your health problem lies. For me, I was breaking out around my mouth, which indicates a stomach problem, & on my neck, which indicates an immune system problem.
Once you get your health back on track, your skin should clear up."

[YEA] 04/01/2008: Nina from Los Angeles, CA writes: "After finding out about all these harsh chemicals in our toiletries & makeup I realized that must be the reason so many of us have developed skin problems. Therefore I started looking into all "natural" toiletries and face care products but they just dont seem to be as effective, and thats when I came up with my own gentle yet effective face wash. I didn't really measure anything I just wanted a good consistency, not too thick not too thin, so I went on to mix baking soda, a little bentonite clay, raw honey and just a little apple cider vinegar in a glass jar, mix it well, you may add a little more a little less of any ingredient until you reach the consistency that is right for you. I use this product every night and it makes me feel at ease knowing I am not putting any chemicals on my face! I also make 1 serving of oatmeal but instead of using 1 cup of water I use about 1/3 or a 1/4 apple cider vinegar and the rest water pop it in the microwave then I let it cool down a little and apply it on my clean face for about an hour. This really draws out the dirt and grime in your face and makes it easy to take out those stubborn blackheads, not to mention it leaves your face feeling soft and doesn't overdry, yey! After I rinse off the mask I just spray my face with a mixture of Lily of the desert aloe vera gel and purified water, again I don't have the exact measurement but don't make it too thick it should still look like a liquid and it should be easily sprayed on a spray or even better with a mist bottle. And lastly I apply lime juice to any blemishes and dark spots I may have and I always try to get at least 8 hours of sleep. In the morning I simply wash with water and apply the aloe vera and water mixture, then I apply my organic mineral makeup from Afterglow cosmetics. Hope this helps you guys, and remember nature is your best friend!"

A problem I have struggled with for years is finally saying Bye-Bye! I have introduced my body to OIL PULLING; I alternate days by eating either 1 TOMATO or 1 tbsp MOLASSES first thing in the morning. I do the BROWN-SUGAR SCRUB twice per week. I use HYDROGEN PEROXIDE after washing face; wash pillowcase regularly; apply VIT E before bed; apply a different FACE MASK once per week; apply CLEAR TAPE over troubled areas and peel away dead skin cells once per week. I also drink water regularly (spring/purified/tap). Thank you Earth Clinic for alternatives, and thank you fellow readers for sharing your tips."

[YEA] 09/26/2010: Imbordagin from San Dimas, Ca writes: "I've tried various remedies throughout the years for acne; benzoyl peroxide worked ok, hp worked okay and helped them go away faster but I felt those were just treating the symptoms, not the problem. Accutaine works great but it's tough to get and we all know about Big Pharma and its evils. I went to the health food store last month, and the guy took one look at me and reccomended Neem leaf and a colon cleanse. I followed his instructions - a colon cleanse pill at night and 3,440 mg Neem leaf pills in the morning. Gosh, I wish I'd found this sooner. Within a week my skin was clearing up, and now I take 2 pills a day and no colon cleanse anymore - I just eat healthy (ish). My skin is completely clear now - I get one or two blemishes around that time of the month and they are minor and easy to take care of. Magic! Yay! Neem is also suppossed to be good for treating other skin conditions too, I'm not sure what but I'm sure it's on the Internet."

[YEA] 09/09/2010: Reyna from Va Beach, Va writes: "WOW AMAZING!!! Last nite for the first time I tried something new, n to my amazement, IT WORKED! I've been reading all about these home remedies for scaring, black/white heads, volcanic pimples, & large pores. I at 1st fell in love with applying a thick layer of nutmeg and milk. I especially liked this cuz the nutmeg is an awesome exfoliator. I left on for 2hr n wen I rinsed off, I seen my pores were reduced & pimple size too, but I still wasn't satisfied. That's wen I started trying the raw garlic which burned like he'll and made I believe inflamed my pimples more (Ive had horribly bad acne since I can remember) ime 26yr old female & am soo tired of these huge holes and lrge pimples and my nose has ALWAYS been covered in blackheads NO MATTER WUT IVE TRIED IN THE PAST:( ok enough blah blah here's wut use came for, lastnite I had some leftover ground nutmeg & milk paste I took outta my fridge, to which I added more nutmeg get this, EXTRA VIRGIN OLIVE OIL!!! Yes I know, oil? What? To treat acne? YES! Oh YES! Like I said, I've been reading up on these things & came across my awesome n I wana say life changing info about E. V. O. O. Sooo I decided to put two and 2 together and it work, like a miracle! I took turns massaging this mixture one cheek at a time then my nose chin n forehead. I left this on overnite and now in the morning my results are soo unbelievable I came straight to my iPad to tell ALL. I had a huge swollen red pimple on my chin, a nose covered in blackheads, my cheeks wer red and full of small pimples. I rubbed it in a circular motion and let as much nutmeg fall off as possible then rinsed with cold water. My huge volcano on my chin is GREATLY REDUCED in redness & size, my red cheeks Gone! Little pimples, Gone! Blackhead covered nose soo lite and BEARLY noticeable, & I also have a deep hole in my cheek that just appeared one day, it is reduced in size and my pores look amazing! I mean I gotta dust off my bed and am definitely gonna have to dedicate a couple pillow cases cuz this is a messy ass treatment, but TOTALY TRULEY WORTH IT!!! This is the first thing EVER that has actualy worked wonders on a first time use. Well I hope this helps people cuz I knw how acne can damage ones self-confidence.
Ok quick review, here's what u need; it has to be
Extra Virgin Olive oil
Ground nutmeg
Dedicated pillow cases
Mix oil and nutmeg to create a paste and massage into face, I love the tingly fresh feeling it leaves. Leave on overnite
In the morn use circular motion to rub off wuts left of the nutmeg then rinse with cool water & be amazed.
P. S. I had a splash of milk in my mixture the 1st time which I will probaly do again tonite. N like I sd, it's gonna look like u murdered ur poor pillow case (unless u sleep face-up) and u prolly gonna have to dust your cover of a little nutmeg, but it's a VERY small price to pay to get these miraculous instant overnite results."

First, we found that drinking orange juice helped, then we found that peeling the orange and eating it clears her skin of the pimples that have not progressed to full blown white heads. She eats an orange (with the white part attached) every other day and she has a much improved complexion!"

[YEA] 08/15/2011: Lmp from Long Island, Ny writes: "I have bad skin on the back of my legs and inside of my thighs. I have had it for a while, went to several dermatologists who kept diagnosing it differently, all creams and pills they gave me never worked. Anyway, I'm still not sure what it is-if it is just acne, or folliculitis, or keratosis pillaris. Either way, I have been using head and shoulders classic clean shampoo on these areas for only a couple days and is is the best the skin my legs has looked in years. It smells good too! :) Good luck!"

06/20/2011: Jqueen from Atlanta, Ga, 30309 writes: "I normally don't do this but I thought I might share. I used to break out a lot, I'm talking about over 20 pimples of all sizes at a time on my face until I started using Alpha Hydrox. Their foaming cleanser is so gentle, and I would recommend it for anyone of all ages. It's not really meant for treating Acne or breakouts, but so many people who have used it have bought it for that purpose alone including I. What has worked out for me might not work for you... But I figured I would share this information.
A tip: Unless you get a serious alergic reaction from this product for whatever reason (who knows, it can happen with anything) the first couple of weeks of using it you might experience a few breakouts. Don't sweat it, it's normal. Give some time for your skin to adjust to the changes. Be patient.
They also have a great line of moisturizers. Try them out but don't over do it. Try to keep it light. No matter if your skin is extremely oily, you NEED to moisturize. I found the reason why my skin was always so oily, aside from the heat, was because it lacked moisture. So the less moisture I had on my face, the more oil I had.
Anyway hope this helps!"

PANTOTHENIC ACID

[SIDE EFFECTS] 03/26/2010: Bridget from Citrus Heights, Ca 95610, Ca writes: "panothenic acid (vitamin B5) caused my hair to turn dry and brittle and some fall out.
i tried panothenic acid, 3 grams a day, to cure my acne and within 5 days my hair became very dry and very frizzy with some fall out. i researched this on acne forums and found a lot of the same feedback. it did make my skin a little less oily but the hair problems are not worth it to me. this is the only change i made so i believe it was the B5."
Replies03/27/2010: Amanda from Hot Springs, Ar, Usa replies: "i am not sure if this is the reason for your experience, but i have always heard that you should take all the b vitamins instead of one by itself because if you just take one, you could cause an imbalance in the others."

[YEA] 09/25/2009: Lita209 from Sanford, Fl, USA writes: "I finally figure out how to tell acne sufferers what to try without looking like I am advertising any company! I feel responsible for letting everyone else know what worked for me. After over 30 years suffering with acne I know how devastating this can be. Look for all the information on Pantothenic Acid that you can get. Look for Dr. Lit-Hung Leung who conducted the study! There is a lot of information, message boards on B5 for the treatment of acne. There are a lot of vitamins shops on and off line that you can get it from, but you need to learn how to take the dosages and for how long. I hope every acne victim at least take a look at this and consider. My only regret is not knowing about it 30 years ago!!!"
RepliesEC: The study is mentioned on Wikipedia:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pantothenic_acid
"According to a study published in 1995 by Dr. Lit-Hung Leung,[61] high doses of Vitamin B5 resolved acne and decreased pore size. Dr. Leung also proposes a mechanism, stating that CoA regulates both hormones and fatty-acids, and without sufficient quantities of pantothenic acid, CoA will preferentially produce androgens. This causes fatty acids to build up and be excreted through sebaceous glands, causing acne. Leung's study gave 45 Asian males and 55 Asian females varying doses of 10-20g of pantothenic acid (100000% of the US Daily Value), 80% orally and 20% through topical cream. Leung noted improvement of acne within one week to one month of the start of the treatment."atment.
[YEA] 10/12/2009: Sophie from Portland, Oregon replies: "I was suffering from acne and tried many different treatment such as high does of Vitamin A, E, Zinc, turmeric, apple cider vinger, coconut...I really was really desperate. My face continued to breakout and it had been going on for about two years. When I went for a facial the girl did extractions and it just really aggravated the problem and she told me to try this new onion ointment wow my skin really went from bad to worse. So I did some research on Panthothenic Acid also known as B5 and I began to take it not the super high doses that Dr Leoug suggests (I only weigh 100 pounds and I'm hypersensitive ) I would take between 4000- 5000 mg a day of Panthothenic Acid along wtih 200 mcg Selenium. My understanding with supplements is that you have one day a week where you do not take any so I rest on Sunday! My face is now completely clear it is glowing and no blemishes of any sort. I know we are all different gentically but this worked for me and hopefully it will help you"
10/13/2009: Lita from Sanford, Fl replies: "To Sophie from Portland: I am glad to hear that somebody else had success with Panthotenic Acid. I too, after living with acne for most of my life, found it and now I feel the duty to let every acne sufferer about it. Thank you for letting everyone know."

[YEA] 02/26/2007: Jess from Johnson City, TN writes: "I have suffered from severe cystic acne, the most severe, painful, and deepest of acne for at least 13 years (since puberty). I've tried everything. Nothing topical worked because the acne was so deep. I finally found the cure! A form of vitamin B5, pantothenic acid, in extremely high doses cured my acne completely! I have been taking 10g of pantothenic acid a day for almost a month. Within a week I could see huge results and within two weeks I was completely clear. I'm so glad I decided to try this instead of trying Accutane like the rest of my family. If you decide to try this build up to 10g/day over the course of a week (if not, it can cause stomach upset) and continue the 10g/day regimen for 2 months. After that you can gradually decrease the dosage down to a maintenance dose of 1-2g/day. This information is supported by a study done by Dr.Leung in China. The initial 10g/day dosage is extreme-the pills mostly come in 500mg doses which ends up being 20 pills/day but if you're desperate like me then it's worth it. I split mine up into 2 doses/day and dissolve the pills in a drink. It doesn't taste good but its better than having to take so many pills. I've read that smaller doses work but it may take longer to see results."

PEPPERMINT TEA

[BETTER BUT NOT CURED] 08/18/2011: Karen from Johannesburg, South Africa writes: "I've suffered from chronic hormonal acne for more than 20 years. I stayed on birth control pills during most of the time because it was the only thing that kept me consistently clear (any combined pill seemed to work for me). After leaving my job and losing my health insurance I found that the drugs were too expensive and started looking for a natural remedy.
After more than a year of giving everything I could think of a try, I finally started to see results with peppermint tea. Took about 2 weeks to start noticing improvement. It's not a 100% cure but it's something of a small miracle after being so completely unresponsive to everything else. 1 - 2 unsweetened strong cups a day seems to do the job. And I quite enjoy the taste.
After doing some research I think this only works for androgen-type hormonal imbalance ie. Too many male-type hormones. I believe the effects are similar for men. Spearmint, which I can't seem to find, apparently works as well."

PICKLE JUICE
11/09/2009: Dannae from Oklahoma City, Oklahoma writes: "I am 75 years old, have had acne since I was 13, and while in the years of raising my children, not many problems with acne, till in my early 60's. Now there are these bumps under the skin, they sometimes get inflammed, but require a needle to get them, and their little roots out. so it leaves scars. I tried the ACV, teaspoon in cup of water, but the best way I like it, is from Dill Pickle juice, and it also works for coughs, and colds. I am not consistant with it, but going to try it now diluted to 1/2 teaspoon to cup of water, for sinus by spraying it into them.
Try smelling some of the stuff that comes from pimples, think you will be surprised!"
