DONG QUAI TEA

1 YEA

[YEA]  02/27/2009: Briona from Los Angeles, CA writes: "For a few decades, I had the most painful cramps and horrible PMS. A few months ago, I started drinking a large cup of Dong Quai tea every afternoon - except during my period, and since then, no more cramps, no more PMS. My husband loves it - and me too."

EVENING PRIMROSE OIL

7 YEA

[YEA]  04/12/2009: Stacia from Port Orange, FL writes: "Evening Primrose Oil cured my PMS, cramps and my scaly-dry-itchy skin within a few days-weeks. My skin saw relief withing a few days. I started taking it for the first time a few weeks before my period and it was actually a shock when my period started because I had NO warning as usual. My PMS was bad enough that I knew to the hour when my period would start. Not anymore! That is the only downside, but I'll take it! :) I've used two brands..both 1300 and 1350 mg work. I take one a day religiously, but two a day if I think about it. The bottles say you can take 1-2 softgels a day. My skin is normally very oily, but sometimes I get combination skin where it gets very scaly, dry, itchy and UGLY! The evening primrose oil has COMPLETELY solved this issue. I was on birth control pills as a child of 14 for debilitating cramps and what a nightmare that was. I will never play around with my hormones again. I gained a lot of weight, got heart palpitations, grew excess hair everywhere...I don't recommend birth control pills to anyone. As a 31 year old and still dealing with terrible periods, this is a lifesaver! No more cramps, no more crazy PMS symptoms (and I had them all...sore breasts, moodiness, depression, lethargy..etc). Thank you Earthclinic! I tell everyone about this site, use it all the time and everything that I've tried here is fantastic!"

[YEA]  07/11/2008: Robin from Walhalla, SC writes: "Evening primrose works like magic for PMS symptoms, especially tender breasts. This was a big problem for me each month and was a disruption in my life. Two weeks before my period my breasts would begin hurting and gradually became worse as my period neared. I began taking evening primrose capsules and now have no pain at all. I begin the capsules as soon as I ovulate. I take one in the morning the first week after ovulation. The second week I take one in the morning and one at night. As soon as I start my period, I stop taking them until next month. It really works and has no side effects as far as I can tell."

[YEA]  02/17/2008: Karen from Atlanta, GA writes: "Evening Primrose cured my PMS! I suffered from severe PMS from age 25 until now (I'm 42). I would become depressed, anti-social, irritable, completely exhausted, bloated and basically miserable for 7 to 12 days per month! While I'm ususally a healthy eater, I would also binge on anything I could for several days before my period started. I read about Evening Primrose and had even tried it at some point, but I hadn't taken it at high enough doses. Now I'm taking 3000 mg per day about 10 days before my period and 1500 mg the rest of the month. I no longer have PMS. I am so happy and amazed! I didn't think that there would be anything to help me in this lifetime."

[YEA]  06/11/2007: Tessa from Kissimmee, USA writes: "I had killer menstrual cramps all my adult life. I am now 38 and was fed up with cramps that consumed my life for about 2 weeks each month. I would get cramps before my period and for about 5 to 6 days during. I dreaded the thought of getting my period. 1200 milligrams of prescription ibuprofen every 4 hours was not helping me anymore. My liver and stomach was overloaded from the drugs. I couldn't function at work or at home. I was high all the time from the ibuprofen. I would have to take days off from work just to get through my period. I came across an article about evening primrose oil and how it can dramatically ease cramps and pms. Well I decided to try it not really thinking it would work, after all I had tried every remedy I could find. Nothing helped. Because there is cancer in my family I would not take birth control pills to ease the cramps. I started taking evening primrose oil 2 weeks before my period. 1 with every meal. The day my period was supposed to start I upped it to 2 pills with every meal. Well my period came and I didn't even know it. NO cramps. I didn't get pms or painful breast either. I didn't even have to take ibuprofen. I am shocked!!! This is the first time in 26 years that I have no cramps. I don't know how it works, but for me it is a miracle worker. I wish I knew this years ago. I have lost so much time laying in bed or on the couch from cramps. I am so happy I found this remedy. It has changed my life."

[YEA]  02/27/2007: Jennifer from Paris, France writes: "Evening Primrose Oil has helped enormously with my PMS symptoms (irritability, moodiness). I was told to take one pill 3x/day with each meal, for ten days before my period was due to start. I usually only remember to take it in the morning, and it still works. A miracle."

FENUGREEK

1 YEA

[YEA]  03/24/2007: George from Houston, Texas writes: "My girlfriend suffers from bipolar mania and PMS, and I've tried hard to figure out why she can be the most perfect, wonderful, loving girlfriend for months, then turn into a mean, vicious, heartless, remorseless monster and kick me out of the house. Then she started taking an herb called fenugreek to increase milk production while breastfeeding. Within less than two weeks she transformed back into the wonderful, loving woman I fell in love with and it was better than ever! After doing more research I determined that the culprit was a neuropeptide hormone called oxytocin, the love hormone. It's responsible for milk production, bonding, trust, openness, reduction in stress/anxiety, and to some extent libido. It was a beautiful transformation! Apparently there was an intranasal form of oxytocin available previously, but now you have to get it custom made, but fenugreek seems to promote its production. I guess the key is to make sure that she takes it regularly while her oxytocin levels are high and she's still reasonable! Otherwise the bad version of her may refuse to take it!"

FLAX SEED OIL

4 YEA

[YEA]  05/28/2008: Jonna from Los Angeles, CA writes: "I have been taking flax seed oil for my skin. However, one additional benefit I have noticed is that flax oil is very helpful during those hormonal fluctuations in my cycle (ie., PMS!). I take more or less depending on how I feel. I take up to 3 tablespoons as day starting a week before I get my period. It takes about an hour, but has an immediate calming effect. I would say the effect lasts about 8 hours before I need to take more. I have also noticed that on day 5 of my period, something shifts in my brain chemistry again (ie., emotional, easily triggered) and I up my flax seed oil dosage again. I am going to keep experimenting with the dosages and will let you all know. I am guessing this could be one of the best remedies to get through perimenopause and menopause. Any else had the same results as me?"

[YEA]  03/04/2008: Georgie from Manhatten writes: "After my last period ended, I decided to try flax seed oil (highest lignan count that you can buy) for PMS symptoms. At the very start of my cycle, I started to take 1 tablespoon of flax in cottage cheese once, then twice a day after my system got used to it. I found that my stools were loose if 1 tablespoon of flax in anything other than cottage cheese. A week later I ran out of whole milk cottage cheese and opted for low fat cottage cheese. Low fat and flax oil was harder to digest and my stools became loose again. Make sure you take flax oil with whole milk, organic cottage cheese if possible! At any rate (and the main point of this story), hardly any PMS symptoms appeared! Mood was much more even keeled throughout the month and no breast tenderness whatsoever. In January I had tried ACV and Lugol's iodine with some success, but the flax has been the best remedy so far for PMS."

[YEA]  10/08/2006: Jules from Laguna Hills, CA writes: "I had very bad PMS cramps right before and the first couple of days of menstruation. i read somewhere that flax seed oil was good for the overall health of women and the reproductive system so i started taking it daily, a tablespoon or so with yogurt or kefir, and the cramps dramatically decreased the month later. i was always able to tell right about when i start because of the cramps, but the following month i didn't know at all and it just came without warning. i took it for a few a months religiously, but it's been about two months since taking it regularly. the cramping hasn't come back, but i will start taking it again for my overall health. highly recommend it for PMS!"

[YEA]  Sharon from Boston, MA writes: "I find that taking Flax Seed Oil (a few teaspoons a day, spread throughout the course of the day) radically helps the symptoms of my PMS. Also a calcium/magnesium liquid supplementation helps me a lot as well. Oh yes, also exercise! Can't believe I almost forgot about that. If I don't exercise regularly towards the onset of my period, I get foul tempered, especially when I drive."

HOLY BASIL

IODINE

1 YEA

[YEA]  Donna from Aspen, CO writes: "I totally cured my PMS, as I used to have severe anxiety, temper flare ups and acne. I paint myself with 2% tincture of iodine every AM & PM. Noticed the change within 2 days! Also, my allergies went away, my teeth weren't sensitive anymore.

Recipe: Paint about a 2" X 2" area on your stomach area, always moving the spot around to different locations (or the skin gets dried out and itchy). Just two days ago I forgot to paint in the morning, by evening I had a acne starting to form on my chin, I quickly painted my tummy, and when I awoke the next day it was gone!

If your paintings don't absorb then you can put off painting, maybe every other day. It means your iodine level is okay, maybe you really don't need any. However, I read that 80% of Americans are iodine defficient. They used to put iodine in all of our flour products (before 1966), then they discovered bromide, it is easier, cheaper, less messy and makes ingredients mix well, so it's in all of our bread, flour products (except "sprouted grain" breads/products & 100% organic) cakes, even Gatorade and Mountain Dew (it was found in Dansani water too)!

Fluoride, chlorine, bromide & iodine are all halogens, their atomic weight determines which one deletes the other, fluoride being the winner (doesn't that make you happy). Iodine is the loser, so all three delete iodine. That's why we are all deficient, we cannot escape fluoride, chlorine and bromide! So, paint paint paint, you only absorb what you need!"

L-THEANINE

1 YEA

[YEA]  Sukie from NZ writes: "I love L-Theanine for PMS. I start to take it as soon as I find myself becoming irritable. I find I also need a capsule or two on the third day of my period... my brain chemistry must be altering during this time. I feel very needy. Anyone else notice that too?"

LUGOL'S IODINE

1 BETTER BUT NOT CURED

[BETTER BUT NOT CURED]  10/20/2008: Jess from San Fran writes: "I started to take a few drops of Lugol's in water early last week. On the 3rd day, I got my period. I think the Lugol's made it come earlier than usual, but I will have to mark it on a calendar for the next few months to know exactly how much earlier it arrived. What was unusual is that I had NO PMS! No wild hormonal swings, no irritation, no breast tenderness. My period just arrived without fanfare ha ha. The next unusual thing that happened is that I got PMS symptoms (irritablity) on the 1st day of my period, instead of 4 days before... It lasted for a few hours and then all was well in the universe once again. I stopped taking it after 5 days, but will start up again in about 2 weeks. I'd say its a MAYBE remedy for PMS."

LYCOPODIUM PILLULES

1 YEA

[YEA]  03/22/2008: Anne from Southampton, England writes: "I used to have awful trouble with bloatedness. Immediately after food hit my stomach I would swell up like a balloon. I called a homeopathic company and they advised me to take lycopodium pillules. After a week of taking the recommended dosage my bloating troubles were all gone - I could eat almost anything with no excessive gas as a result! I didn't even have to keep taking them, after about three weeks I slowed down on dosage and then stopped, and the bloating problem didn't come back at all."

MAGNESIUM

1 YEA

[YEA]  09/06/2008: Patti from Ewing, NJ writes: "A long time ago I read about a natural cure for hormonal mood swings, (PMS symptoms) and I read that if you have the type of PMS where you are cranky it works to take a Calcium/Magnesium supplement but the Magnesium amount has to be more than Calcium. There's a popular supplement available that has twice the magnesum to calcium ratio. It works so well that even my husband makes sure I always have it on hand/I take it ten days before, 3 times a day. As I get older I've started taking Vitex, and for some reason the (awful tasting) liquid works better than the capsules for me, and that has made a huge difference. I will say that I am now looking into supplements as I head into perimenopause, I am feeling very unhappy a lot of days which is very unlike me. In doing a lot more research (from books) I have been reading great things about Black Cohosh and am about to start taking that. No synthetic drugs for me, just natural cures and I would love to hear how other women have handled the depression (mild, but that's enough) and lethargy that I really want to get some help with. Hope I was able to help someone else!"

MILK PRODUCTS

3 YEA

[YEA]  11/22/2008: Janis from Renton, Washington writes: "My daughter had suffered from horrible pms. When she was younger I watched her moods after foods that she consumed. When she had pms and consumed a milk product her mood went from irritable or angry to happy. So when you are suffering from pms try consuming a milk product like cheese, milk or ice cream and see if that helps your pms. It worked for my daughter and still does."

[YEA]  11/22/2008: Andrea from Ontario, Canada replies: "Janis you are so right about this. A lack of Calcium in the body can be responsible for over 150 diseases. So many people think it is just for healthy bones and teeth but it is needed for so much more. eg. muscles need it to release their contractions. I know so many women that take calcium supplements or the husbands automatically run for milk products when the cycle approaches!"

11/23/2008: Janis from Renton, Washington replies: "Andrea, thanks for your reply. I was hoping to get the word out in case others didn't know of this. So thanks for confirming."

[YEA]  01/24/2009: Melinda from Tucson, Arizona replies: "Yea-I started taking calcium pills for PMS some time ago, I usually start taking them a week before my period, they cut back on the overall PMS symptoms, as well as the pain from cramps, irritability, etc. when I do actually start. I notice I will sometimes "crave" cheese products and milk during this time as well, and I think it's just my bodies way of trying to get me to take in more calcium. This is the only time of the month I take it so as not to overdue it. The calcium in extra strength tums works like calcium pills too."

NUTRITION, HERBS

1 YEA

[YEA]  04/12/2007: Donna from North Carolina, Guilford writes: "I read about Blackstrap Molasses and its ability to remedy female issues, and I was amazed. I have rather large fibroids, extreme bleeding and clots. My doctors have looked at a number of treatments from meds to surgery. I started taking 3 tablespoon of molasses a day about 2 months ago. I was schedule for surgery which had to be re-scheduled 3x due to other issues. But, it's my belief that all the re-scheduling was the universes way of protecting me from an un-needed surgery. I'm not bleeding as heavy, reduced blood clots and shorter cycle. I spoke to my natural pathetic doctor and she has no documented information about these types of benefits of molasses. Can anyone tell me why and how blackstrap molasses seems to reverse and reduce these female issues? This is my third month on the molasses, any suggestions as to how long to take the product? Thank you for your helpful information, this is a wonderful site."

[YEA]  11/06/2006: Shakti from Chicago, IL writes: "Please post this where asthma sufferers can view it, this is important because I had a hard time finding a cure for asthma on your site but thank God I did. I began a regimen of oil pulling shortly after a lingering cold went to my lungs, I just couldn't get rid of the mucus. I prayed for relief. It got even worse after a chemical pesticide was sprayed in my home for pest control. The next day after the extermination I had the worst attack of my life, I couldn't stand it anymore, so after 10 years of not having to put any poison into my lungs I had to once again use an inhaler to control the attacks. After the second night of waking up feeling side effects of nervousness anxiety and panic I decided enough was enough. I went to the computer in the middle of the night and began hours of research to find a natural cure. That's how I found this miracle of a web site. The next day I went out a purchased some sesame oil and took one table spoon 3x a day at the onset of my asthma attack and Immediately after the very first dose the mucus expelled out of my longs, and within 10 minutes what had plagued me for over 10 years was no more. Since then If I have any tightening in my chest or shortness of breath I IMMEDIATELY do the oil pulling and the problem subsides in 10 minutes or less. ~~~Oh I'd be remiss if I did not mention the side effect, I took oil pulling for Bronchial Asthma but as a result I got a dazzling white smile, sinus relief, not to mention it remarkably helped to subside my symptoms PMS all unexpected but welcomed side effects. Thank you from the bottom of my heart! P.S. thanks my husband thanks you too, lol."
